Well this one got out of the blocks very quickly. A series of murders but something seems fishy. We learn a lot more about Croaker's awful childhood and her dysfunctional younger brother. I really don't know how to review this properly so will just say that it was better than book 1 and I'm enjoying the characters. Fey Croaker herself is so down to earth, she seems very real. I will certainly get into the third and fourth books down the track.
This is 2and book I have read in the Crocker series and it was a very good plot. It involved Det. Crocker been pushed to the brink by the stress of the job and her past. She started seeing a shrink to deal with the sexual abuse that her father ( also a Police Officer) has committed against her and her younger brother. The storyline also involves a High Profile NBA star and a Serial killer. Mr. Bishop was able to provide details about child abuse and modern day Politics in the LA Police Department. The ending was very spectacular and was a fitting conclusion to a great story.
Rather typical woman against men police officer story, with the woman winning of course, a rather feminine book surprisingly written by a man. A number of punctuating errors. Not a lot of violence and sex, but fairly explicit. I won't be looking for others in the series.
I almost stopped reading this series, I am so excited that I didn't. Fey is my hero. This story is complicated but simple because it is life. We can not save everyone.
The 2nd book does not disappoint. The storyline flowed & introduced a new love interest for the lead detective Day Croaker. Looking forward to the next book.
Just finished "Croaker: Grave Sins," the second of the Fey Croaker Novels by Paul Bishop, and enjoyed it as much as the first one. The author has had a distinguished career as a detective with the LAPD, and his first-hand knowledge definitely comes through in the authenticity of his novels. This series of modestly priced books is great reading for aficionados of the serious detective novel. Highly recommended!
