Redeemed is part of the McIntyre Security Bodyguard series, but it can be read standalone. It's a full-length novel with a guaranteed HEA.
Annie Ten years ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life And I’ve paid the price every day since then, both in body and spirit Now I’m desperate, and the only man who can save me is the one I betrayed so long ago. I don’t deserve his forgiveness. He doesn’t owe me a thing. But like the hero he is, that won’t stop him from risking his life to save me…. even when I don’t deserve it.
Jake My life ended the day Annie broke our engagement and married another man. I’ve been going through the motions ever since, unable to forget her. Unable to move on. I gave her my heart, and I don’t do give-backs, so she’s stuck with it, whether she wants it or not. When I find out she’s in danger, I’ll move Heaven and Earth to protect her, regardless of what it costs me. She doesn’t owe me a thing, but damn, I’ll go to my knees for her. For just one look, one touch, one word.
I write about alpha protectors who fall in love hard and unconditionally, through the good and the bad. My characters are strong, sexy, and slightly damaged... because no one is perfect. All of my novels have happy-ever-after endings. What else would you expect from a die-hard romantic? I'm the author of the McIntyre Security Bodyguard Series of contemporary romance novels.
I live in Ohio with my daughter and more than a few dogs and cats. When I'm not writing, I'm reading romance novels and watching movies with happy endings. I'd love to hear from you! You can e-mail me at aprilwilsonwrites@outlook.com. Or, visit my website: aprilwilsonauthor.com.
DNF 50%. See notes in highlights. It's just BORING. Moves fast, but MUNDANE. So much potential for deeper feelings yet instead of helping the reader feel them, the author just writes it out in simple little sentences. 14 years of conflict/ distance/ diff lives overcome by a few sentences after meeting again.
Seriously, I'm fine with quick conflict resolution, but WHERE IS THE DEPTH?? None, there is none.
I need to stay away from this author.
Can't give it less stars, bc it's not BAD. I've read a lot worse, a lot more irritating books, but even so, I'm very pissed that it doesn't meet what could have been its potential.
Since reading Vulnerable, the beginning of the McIntyre Security Bodyguard series by April Wilson, she has had her readers completely and totally besotted and obsessed with her McIntyre's and anxiously awaiting more time with them. Through the series, we have seen her characters go through many, many suspenseful and sexy times and with each new story we fall just a little bit harder. I myself couldn't wait to get up close and personal with the tall, dark, and stoic Jake and learn more about his long lost love with “Annie” and fall down the rabbit hole that April was sure to create. It was like she knew exactly what her readers wanted and made all of our wishes come true when she created his story in Redeemed. She takes us on an adventure full of passion, romance, and heart stopping suspense with Annie and Jake that keeps our senses and hearts in a tailspin.
Jake always had me intrigued with his quiet persona and muscled black clothed body. I wanted to know exactly what was going on in that head of his that was always there to protect his family yet never opened up to let all of us in. I thought I was prepared for this mysterious hero but April quickly showed me that I never really knew how much he was going to rule my heart and be master of my emotions throughout his journey with Annie. I was quickly engrossed and enamored with his past, present, and future with his beloved Annie, who stole and broke his heart so many years ago.
Annie is at a crossroads in life that she never expected to be at finding herself begging for not only Jake's protection but also his forgiveness. Annie soon finds that Jake still holds her heart and all that is dear to her in his hands...for him only to protect. My heart went out to Annie from the beginning of her story and I couldn't help but see her as a heroine who had walked through the ashes of hell to find her way back into Jake's open arms. She may have all the emotional scars of her journey, but she will always be beautiful to Jake and I fell just as hard for her as I did all of the McIntyre's.
April Wilson keeps our hearts in her clutches and squeezes with all her might in her first book in her McIntyre Security Protectors series that is a spin off from her original McIntyre series. I highly recommend Redeemed for a heart pounding, soul stirring, steamy suspense that is sure to top your list of romances. April can never give us enough of this family of bodyguards that will go to the ends of the earth to protect those that they love. With each new story that April pens her writing skills and talents grow exponentially and leave us yearning for more of her danger loving bad ass characters that have mesmerized us.
Annie and Jake were in love during high school, even planned to get married. But her parents and Jake insisted Annie go to college and somehow they both got the idea the other had moved on.
Now, years later, Annie is divorced with a young son and needs McIntyre Security to help her with her agressive ex-husband. Jake (McIntyre) has always stayed in love with Annie and vows to protect her and her son. He moves them to a safe house, where their love is rekindled.
I really enjoy these books by April Wilson, but they are rather formulaic. I felt the love between Annie and Jake and thought it rather sweet. The story itself is fast, so I read it in a few hours and followed it with the novella of their wedding. Sweet!
Jake and Annie. Jake has been a fierce force and protector in every book. The date tattoo and his being single a mystery…until now. Their story is sweet and bittersweet as the truth behind their separation is told. Aiden is adorable and his story of meeting Jake is tragic, but not surprisingly Jake and all the McIntyre’s and team, especially Charlie, quickly work to fix that. The danger coming from drugs and domestic violence is scary because of its detail and prevalence in today’s society, especially since the man originally has the background of accounting. Jake’s parents are adorable with Aiden and Annie which was a sharp contrast to her parents and how they, especially the mom, are with Jake. Another good read and great ending for this couple and series!
I was so looking forward to Jake's story, but this just didn't work for me. I felt like after 14 years apart, everything was just wrapped up too quickly. I love this series, but this one just didn't live up to my expectations.
April Wilson usually never disappoints..... AND SHE DIDN'T THIS TIME EITHER! With another great tale filled with skillfully woven words, enriched and engaging characters. I loved the ride from page 1 to the end. I happily recommend!
Classic plot; a possessive man who even though has been betrayed by his woman, still loving the life out of her. I enjoyed the story, enjoyed the chemistry as well. Can't wait to read more from this series!
Jake and Annie were highschool sweethearts. The nerd girl and the dumb quarterback, they were an unlikely couple but they loved each other madly. Annie’s parents were not happy with their relationship and set them up to break up right after Annie left for college. Now 14 years later, the tables have turned, and Annie’s father seeks the McIntyre’s help to protect his daughter and grandson who are in danger. After being lead into thinking that Jake had married another girl when she left for college, Annie settled into a marriage of her own, and got a son, Aiden, who is the love of her life. Very soon after his birth though, Annie’s husband started to get abusive. Now divorced, she is still in danger from him, he keeps threatening her and their son. When Annie goes into McIntyre security’s office, she sees Jake for the first time in a very long time and the feelings come rushing back. Jake has never been able to move on from Annie, and when he learns about the trouble she is in, he steps in.
***
I loved this story, I loved how they reconnect immediately. Jake sees her, he’s single, she’s single, they obviously still have feelings, so that’s it, he kisses her right away. I loved how he embraced her son and all in all how very easy it was, no dramatics or miscommunications.
Second chance for Jake and his first and only love Annie. Lies kept them apart for many years, but now Annie's ex-husband keeps violating their restraining order and her father hires Shane to protect her. Except Jake is in charge while Shane's deals with Beth's post partum depression.
This was rather boring and should have just been a novella.
"You stole my heart when I was a boy, and you still own it now that I’m a man"
I did some swooning at the beginning of this book, two high school sweethearts, a nerdy girl and the star football player all the girls longed for but Jake only had eyes for Annie from the moment they bumped into each other in the corridor. The swooning was short lived when Annie who is a brainiac is accepted into Harvard, the two of them agree to stay together in a long distance relationship but miscommunication and interfering parents caused them to eventually drift apart.
Jake was head over heels in love with Annie and her absence in his life caused him to spiral out of control and so he joined the military.
Over 10 years later the two are reunited when April is needing the help of the security firm Jake now works at.
After being pushed into a relationship by her parents by a guy of their choosing Annie after a few years finds herself in an abusive relationship and returns home for her safety along with her son.
Jake and Annie meet again when she has an appointment at the security firm to go over her case. The sparks and chemistry between the two of them are instant and it's as though they have never been apart.
"When I saw her again for the first time, back at the McIntyre Security building, it was like the years we’ve been apart just evaporated".
All the above was within the first few chapters and although I did love this book I wanted more of what I was loving about this book to be more drawn out. I began to get bored as the story went on, it was semantics. I felt Annie and Jake reunited too quickly and there was no build up or angst but this is reader preference, at the time I read this book I was looking for a book with angst, the cover shouted fighter romance but what I read was a swoon-worthy save for a chilled Sunday kind of book. Now I know April's style I will reserve her series for this kind of reading mood.
REDEEMED is a heartwarming story with swoon-worthy moments. A second chance love story. I would definitely read more in this series, I did enjoy the writing style of April and the equal balance of the drama, hotness and the romance in the plot.
This was such a good book. Finally, Jake has his, Annie Elliot back. Sadly, her parents are the reason why, she’s in the circumstances she eventually finds herself in. Back in high school, Jake and, Annie were so in love. To the point, they planned on getting married on March fifth, after they graduated. But, when Elliot was accepted into Yale and her dad warns, Jake off since he had nothing to offer her. They knew they could make a long distant romance work.
What they never expected was for, Annie’s dad to play an evil cupid, playing one against the other. Feeding each of them false cruel information about the other to keep them apart. And it worked. However, what they never expected was that the man they did accept who worked in her father's accounting firm turned into a monster. Only not only did their daughter pay dearly but their grandson, too.
Her father ate crow and went for the best agency to save his daughter and grandson. He knew, Ted was out of control and far beyond dangerous. But, when he arrives at the second meeting he’s expecting to see, Shane, and to his and, Annie’s surprise, Jake was taking the meeting. If you read the book before this you know due to, Baby Luke’s early arrival, Shane was not taking any meetings.
When her father becomes agitated and demanding, wanting Shane and not Jake to take the meeting, that’s when, Jake orders everyone out except, Annie. He wants everyone out of the room, but Frank is not happy. Annie tells him to leave. The minute the door closes, they are like two puzzle pieces coming together, and the kiss, of more than ten long years happens.
Then, they talk business. Nuts and bolts or at least they were getting into it. When a frantic call comes in from her mother saying, Ted found the hotel. The one where her mom had been hiding with, Aiden her son. A hotel she and her father didn't know about, so how does he? So, they were off to the rescue. This begins their extraction, to an undisclosed area. But, Jake is having a hard time, with the past hurts and anger, mixing with his elation of being with his, Elliot. Also, knowing there is this small scared boy who just needs love and kindness. That one day soon he hopes to make his son.
*just my personal opinion, not everyone will agree* So.. Great trope and it has so much potential BUT.. Like in many books by this author everything happens way to fast for my personal liking. In all the books I've read from this series we the readers are just thrown in to what feels like the middle of a story and everything happens too fast in the first 20-25%.
Like here we get a prologue and then in the first sentences of the first chapter we are suddenly racing towards the big moment when the hero and heroine meet again. In ONE day they meet, make out with each other like right away, rush to rescue her son, go to the safe house, teach the kid to swim and realize/decide that they are now a "family". They go from not having seen each other on 14 years to being engaged in three days. What!? Also Annie lets a stranger (you knew the guy 14 years ago.. he is a stranger) sleep in the same bed as her and her traumatized five year old son the first night after they meet!
The child is supposed to be five years old and one second he acts and talks like a toddler and the next like a 10-12 year old! Also this young child who is supposed to be all traumatized and scared of men starts of flinching away from Jake and in like an hour he is riding on Jake's shoulder and holding his hand?
The whole story feels way rushed in the beginning and then started dragging a bit in the last half.
This was a really cute second chance romance with very low internal conflict compared to the usual conflict you get with the second chance romance trope. There is no pretense at Annie and Jake hating each other or being enemies at any point, and they have open and honest conversation early on in the romance about what happened 10 years previously eliminating the unnecessary communication misunderstanding element to your typical second chance romance. If not that domestic violence and child abuse were major themes of this romance, this would have been a breezy romance. But clearly with these themes and with regret from the past, there is a moderate amount of angst and emotion in this.
The premise is that Annie and Jake were high school sweethearts who were separated when they went on different paths after high school having vowed to stay together. Each under the misapprehension that the other betrayed their relationship, they try to move on. But years later, Annie needs the services of a bodyguard and Jake is assigned to her and the feelings are the same as they’ve always been.
I liked this even though I feel like it still has continuity issues and the story is a little basic and easily resolved. Nonetheless, this is an engaging read and that’s sometimes what’s truly important.
I anxiously waited for this novel knowing that I would love it based on the author's teasers. Well, I really had no idea how much I would enjoy the story. Jake and Annie fell in love in high school. She went off to college and Jake stayed in Chicago trying to figure out what to do with his life. Her parents were able to manipulate them and they broke up. It is now 14 years later. Jake has never loved anyone since. Annie was married and is now divorced with a young son, Aiden. She's divorced because her husband, an addict, abused her and Aiden. McIntyre Security is hired to protect them. Jake takes on their protection. He an Annie are combustible. Clearly, neither got over the other. I loved that Jake, the strong silent type, was so willing to put himself out there for Annie. I loved that he called her Elliot. I loved that he was willing to put all the pain from the past behind them. He felt their second chance was a gift. Both of them accepted that gift without hesitation. Aiden definitely stole my heart. I also loved Charlie, the new bodyguard. I can't wait to get more stories in this series. I am definitely hooked.
Like many fans I was waiting for Jake's story however I have to say I was disappointed. For one, a lot of things didn't make sense. I've noticed this in a couple of April's books, she tends to contradict herself, it makes me wonder if she doesn't re read the previous ones before releasing another. For example in the last book, we learn no one has heard from Jake since he took on the case and is 'off grid', but in this book they are simply staying at the family estate. Also it is mentioned in a previous book Jake was jilted when in fact they never got that far, yes he had asked her to marry him but they grew apart when she went to college, it's not that dramatic as her leaving him a couple of weeks before the wedding.
I also couldn't get over the fact the main character was called Anne Elliot - a Jane Austen character in her book Persuasion, which coincidentally is about a couple who fall in love, plan to marry and are forced apart by her family only to re connect years later.
I feel cheated as the whole series has amazing potential but it seems a bit unpolished. I hope the next ones will be better.
Love this book. Love Annie and Jake’s romance story. This story is interconnected with book 7 plot. This book starts with Annie and Jake who are seniors in high school. Jake is the quarterback for the football team and Annie is good with academics. Annie is heading to Harvard and while she is at Harvard, her parents meddle and end up breaking her and Jake up. The book picks up about 14 years later, Annie is a divorced single mom and her ex husband is very abusive. Annie’s father hires Shane’s bodyguard team to protect. Shane ends up telling Jake about Annie’s case. Jake takes over the case. When he laid eyes on Annie, he knew that he had to have her. Jake takes Annie and her son, Aiden, to Kenilworth. Jake works to get Aiden to trust him. Aiden is weary of men because of his father. As Jake works to break down Aiden’s barriers, Annie can see that Jake is showing Aiden more kindness and affection than Aiden’s father ever show him. Love how these two end up together, they ended up getting a second chance. Worth the read
Wow, April you’ve done it again you just keep getting better and better.
I absolutely loved it, I fell in love with the characters within the first chapter and Aiden is just adorable I felt every emotion he felt, from his shyness, his fear right through to his hopefulness and excitability I was right there with him. I was drawn into this book and it’s characters so easily and quickly, I love it when a book captures me like this, there is no better feeling for an avid reader.
This series just keeps getting better and better and I love the constant reappearances of the regular characters, it never gets boring which rarely happens with a book series but you April are nailing it with every book.... I seriously cannot wait for the rest of the characters books to come out because of they are anything like this book and the rest of the series they are going to be truly amazing, I’m so excited for them already!!!!!
This story was well written by author about high school sweethearts & parents saying he’s not good enough, then flash forward and Annie’s father is looking for someone to protect Annie and her son & in walks Jake her one and only, the book has her afraid of her ex husband who has trackers put into the child’s toy & when Jake turns up to take over her protection he finds it and takes them to his brother Shane’s house in Kenilworth where is safe and secure like Fort Knox so they more or less pick up from where they were and figure out her parents told her Jake got married and went off to military, he was told by her parents that she was too busy for him and was better off without him…. I loved this story also each story is about each one of the characters in the McIntyre family and it’s nice to read each of their stories and see them come to life.
I adored Jake and Annie’s story from the very beginning. There was so much wasted time between the two of them that when they got their second chance they didn’t squander it, there was no second guessing no uneasiness just love. Aiden, that dear boy stole my heart from the very beginning and the scene with the milk, oh I felt the emotion, felt the fear the unknown and felt the protective bear of Jake come out. There was never doubt they were his he would stop at nothing to keep them safe. Such a great book and once again April has transported me to their world. I felt like I was in the pool room, sitting on the fence with the horses, experiencing the overwhelming feelings of when the whole family comes together. Pure magic that is her writing!
Overall, I liked it but there was a serious mislead in the plot summary. You see, (if you haven’t read any of the previous books), they say that Annie and Jake were engaged and then about a week before the wedding, she canceled and married someone else. It made Jake seem very much like the jilted groom. However, in this book, it says that Jake did ask Annie to marry him when they were in high school and she did say yes but no wedding planning had been done. Also, she didn’t caustically break up with him but rather she moved away for college and they drifted apart and then both were told that the other person had moved on with someone else. Maybe the author changed her mind? Since one relationship scenario is a lot more salvageable than the other.
April Wilson has done it again. She not only kept me in the edge of my seat, April created a work of art. Her writing is just that, a work of art. I love her stories. They are all well thought through and the details are spectacular. I fell in love with each and every character. April writes with so much passion and love, you can't help but live in the moment. I was sad when the book ended but I know there will be more. April has do much talent and her followers will agree with me when I say #welldone April on yet another brilliant book. Love your work and you!
Yes, I have a ridiculously goofy smile on my face and can't believe Jack & Annie's story is finished! The wait was well worth it and April Wilson did a magnificent job on getting the feels just right on it. Jake was always the silent, still water runs deep kinda guy and April crafted his story to reflect that aspect so well. Annie's naivete and wholsomness was a perfect foil to Jake...even back in High School. I fell in love with Aiden and his Dinosaur Stevie, and felt so much gratitude to Chsrlie being such a great partner for Jake and helping with Aiden. I loved this story and highly recommend it to everyone. Great job April Wilson! xoxo
Ah, Jake and Annie what can I say? I loved their story. I thought I was in love with Shane, but Jake is definitely a close second. The way he loves and protects so fiercely is swoonworthy. Watching Jake rekindle his love with Annie and fall in love with Aiden melts my heart. Ted, Annie's ex husband is a monster and has hurt Aiden and Annie one too many times. We follow their story as Ted tries to take his family back under his control and as Jake fights to now protect his family. He spent 14 years in love with his Elliott, he's not letting them go. Amazing job April, the McIntyre magic is alive and stronger than ever 💙
I loved this book!! It’s right up there with Sam and coopers book. Jake is amazing. And the perfect book boyfriend mix. Big and muscly with a heart of gold who knows what he wants. From the beginning of coming into contact with Annie ‘Elliot’ he knows he has to have her. They were meant to be together. I was heart broken when you found out what tore them apart. Her parents are horrible. At least her father seems appropriately guilty and apologetic where her mother just seems like a witch. Love Aiden and how much he takes to Jake. Spoiler* when he said he wished Jake was his dad I wanted to cry. Omggg thank god for Jake. Loved the ending. Can’t wait for more.
I loved getting to know more about Jake and Annie I really loved the way Jake took on Aiden as his own son as aidens biological father' was abusive to his mum Annie and to him.so Aiden was weary of men.Jake was devoted to Annie and Aiden and was devoted to keeping them safe.Annies father admitted he was in the wrong for interfering in Annie's life which caused Annie and Jake to split when they were childhood sweethearts.my heart was in my mouth the way Jake dived in front of Annie when her ex husband pulled the trigger Jake and Annie both ended up injured.it was really sweet when aiden asked Jake if he was his new daddy and aiden started calling Jake daddy

First, you wrote a kickass book. The characters felt real. I cried when they did. I was smiling 😃 when they happy. Cheered when the villain got his due process. My issue.... WRITE FASTER, APRIL!!!! YOUR KILLIN ME SLOW! I have to wait 2019 for the next one???!!! Dude, not right. Couldn't you do like a Christmas book?? How about THANKSGIVING??? Work with me,here! Seriously, awesome book and thank you for writing it..... Just feed my inner McIntyre a little faster, pls. Done with my rant...for now😏
