कोशुर भाषा में, काशीर का अर्थ है कश्मीर। यह एक दिल दहला देने वाली किताब थी। यह उस समय की पुस्तक है, जिसमें भारत, एक सभ्यता के रूप में, 'अस्तित्ववादी' संकट का सामना कर रहा है, जहां पर यह हिंदू होना एक पाप है, और गद्दारों ने एक घातक प्रलय का आयोजन किया। एक ऐसे समुदाय की पीड़ा को प्रकाश में लाने के लिए लेखक को धन्यवाद, जिसे पूरी तरह से नजरअंदाज कर दिया गया।। अब भी जब भी इसका उल्लेख किया जाता है तो इसकी तुलना कुछ अन्य त्रासदियों से की जाती है न कि स्वतंत्र रूप में। उदारवादी इस पर बहस करने के लिए एक बिंदु के रूप में उपयोग करते हैं लेकिन किसी ने भी समुदाय के लिए कुछ नहीं किया है।
यहां तक कि नागरिक समाज भी कश्मीर के हिंदुओं की जातीय सफाई के बारे में बात नहीं करना चाहता। इस पुस्तक को लिखने के लिए लेखक का धन्यवाद। इस त्रासदी के बारे में लिखते समय दिमाग सुन्न हो हो गया होगा | हम सब सोच सकते हैं कि कैसे हम भारतीय इस प्रलय से बेखबर थे।
30 साल बाद भी वे न्याय का इंतजार कर रहे हैं। यह पुस्तक एक निकट दृष्टि प्रदान करती है और तब क्या होता है, जब समुदाय विशेष का इस्लामी इस्लामवादी के साथ ऊपरी तौर पर हाथ उठ जाता है। यह इस बात का भी घनिष्ठ दृष्टिकोण रखता है कि उन परिस्थितियों में किस तरह से कश्मीरी हिन्दू जीवित और जीवित रहे हैं| हत्या और हमले का विवरण थोड़ा परेशान करने वाला है, लेकिन यह इस बात की स्पष्ट समझ देता है कि वे अपने घरों से किस तरह से निकाले गए थे जो भागने के अलावा कोई विकल्प नहीं था। न केवल उन्होंने अपने घरों, अपनी भाषा, अपनी लिपि, अपने मंदिरों और व्यवसाय को खो दिया बल्कि खुद का एक हिस्सा खो दिया था|
किसी को भी कभी नहीं पता चलेगा कि वास्तव में कश्मीरी हिंदुओं के साथ कश्मीर में क्या हुआ था जब तक कि वे स्वयं इस पुस्तक को नहीं पढ़ते और हमारे साथी नागरिकों के जीवन का कठिन सत्य जीते। यह आपके सभी पूर्वाग्रह को भंग कर देगा। उनकी शिकायतें शायद ही मुख्यधारा में आती थीं। यह केवल हाल ही में उनकी पीड़ा को बहुत गंभीर स्तर के साथ प्रलेखित किया जाने लगा है।
किसी भी छद्म धर्मनिरपेक्ष ने अपने मानव अधिकारों के उल्लंघन के लिए अपना रोना नहीं उठाया। कश्मीरी हिंदुओं को अपने घरों से भागने के लिए मजबूर करने वाली धार्मिक कट्टरता से यह स्पष्ट होता है कि राजनीतिक नेतृत्व धर्मनिरपेक्षता और धार्मिक सहिष्णुता की शर्तों का उपयोग केवल अपने मौखिक संभोग सुख के लिए करता है। इस किताब में उन नकली उदार और नकली पत्रकार प्रकार के पात्रों का उल्लेख करने के लिए लेखक का धन्यवाद।। जिन जिनको आर्टिकल 370 और 35 A के बारे में में गलत धारणा वो इस पुस्तक से सही हो जायेगा। कहानियों के दोनों पक्षों से दिखाया है लेखक ने| लेखक इस पुस्तक को सुनाते हुए और विभिन्न ऐतिहासिक उपाख्यान देते हुए स्रोत, संदर्भ और छंद प्रदान करते हैं।
सहाना विजयकुमार इस बारे में आश्चर्यजनक रूप से बताते हैं कि कश्मीरी हिंदू कैसे इस्लामी क्रूरता से गुजरते हैं। यह पुस्तक कथा और इतिहास का एक शानदार संयोजन है। यह प्रत्येक भारतीय के लिए अंधेरा, शक्तिशाली और 'आंख खोलने वाला' है, भले ही वह अपनी मूल पहचान के बावजूद हो। शोध कार्य के लिए बार-बार लेखक और उसके सभी दोस्तों की सराहना की जानी चाहिए जिन्होंने उसे इस सबसे आवश्यक स्क्रिप्ट को लिखने में मदद की है, जो मुझे विश्वास है कि हर भारतीय को पता होना चाहिए।

हमें हिंदुओं के पलायन पर और किताबों की जरूरत है। सिंध से सिंधी हिंदू, पंजाबी हिंदू और सिख पाकिस्तान और अफगानिस्तान से, बांग्लादेश से बंगाली हिंदू, बर्मा और श्रीलंका से तमिल हिंदू। बहुत सारे इतिहास को बताने की जरूरत है।

Kasheer is probably the most underrated book. In Koshur language, Kasheer means Kashmir. It was a heart wrenching book. This is the book of the period, in which India, as a civilization, faced 'existential' crisis, where it became a sin to be a Hindu, and traitors organized a deadly Holocaust. Thanks to author for bringing to light the suffering of a community that was completely ignored. Even now whenever it is mentioned it is to compare it with some other tragedy and not on independent terms. The liberals use it as a point to argue upon but no one has done anything for the community.
Even civil society seems to have brushed aside this ethnic cleansing of Kashmir Hindus. Thanks to author for writing this book. It must have been mind numbing and gut wrenching to open up closed doors. All I can think of how as we Indians were oblivious to this holocaust.
30 years on they are still waiting for justice. The book gives a closer look and various perspective of what happens when a particular community gets outnumbered when the demographic upper hand is with the Islamist. It also puts forward the aftermath of the Kashmiri Hindus exodus and gives a closer look of the life and conditions through which the Hindus have lived and survived through. The details of murdering and assault are bit disturbing but it does give a clearer understanding of what the way they were driven out of their homes which no choice other than fleeing. Not only did they lose their homes, their language, their script, their temples and occupation but a part of themselves.
No one will ever know what actually happened in Kashmir with Kashmiri Hindus until they themselves read this book and live the hard truth of our fellow citizen’s lives. It will dissolve all your prejudice. Their grievances hardly used to make it to the mainstream. It only recently that their suffering have been started to be documented with a much serious level.
None of the pseudo secular raised their cries for their human rights violation. The religious bigotry which compelled Kashmiri Hindus to flee from their homes makes it evident that the political leadership use the terms of secularism and religious tolerance only to satiate their verbal orgasm. Thank to author having those kinds of characters in this book as well. I also love the way author have talk about Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution of India through her characters. Thanks to author for showing us both sides of stories. Author provide sources, references and verses while narrating this book and giving various historical anecdotes.
Sahana Vijayakumar explains wonderfully about how Kashmiri Hindus pass through Islamist brutality. This book is a brilliant combination of fiction and history. It is dark, powerful and an 'eye-opener' for every Indian, irrespective of his native identities. The research work needs to be applauded again and again to the author and all her friends who have helped her with writing this most essential script which I believe every Indian must know.
Unfortunate part is this history is not even mentioned in any history text book of school. Thanks to pseudo secular and leftist for that. What a shame. I have some Kashmiri Hindus friends and I salute their resilience. Even after being brutalized by the militants, tyrannized by their neighbors of centuries and let down by the apathy of the government they are successful in different fields. Hats off to their resilience!
We need more books on Hindus exodus. Sindhi Hindu from Sindh, Punjabi Hindu and Sikhs from Pakistan and Afghanistan, Bengali Hindus from Bangladesh, Tamil Hindus from Burma and Sri Lanka. Lots of history need to be tell.
Originally, this book was written in Kannada. I read this book in Hindi. This book will be available in English and Marathi in near future. I am sure this book will be also available in many other languages as well. Books like this should be gifted to friends, family and relatives. It’s a must read. Everyone should read to know what our ancestors went through.
Words have just come from heart and carry all the pain, sufferings and longing. Sahana has put her heart on paper. A book which opened new horizon for me and gave a perspective to look. A book which you don't read in breaks but would read at a stretch. I wish we could change the past but I know we can't. However we can take lessons from our past and work presently for better future.

This is an excellent Novel with facts and figures about KAshmir, very nicely written. I feel every Indian should read this.

ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಒಂದ್ ರೀತಿಯ ಭಾರವಾದ ಅನುಭವ.
ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಂದಿಲ್ಲೊಂದು ವಿಚಾರಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವಂತದ್ದೆ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಅದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಒಂದು ಕಥೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೇಳುವ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ.
ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನ ಓದಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಂಗೆ ಯಾವಾಗ್ಲೂ ಅನ್ಸೋದು ನಮ್ಮ ಪಠ್ಯಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನ ಎಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತಿರ್ಚಿ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಅಂತ. ಕೆಲವು ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಓದೋವಾಗ literally unlearn and relearn ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ತರ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನ ನಮ್ಮ younger generation ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಓದಬೇಕು. ಆಗ ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿದ ಹಾಗೆ unlearn relearn ಮಾಡೋ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ಬರಲ್ಲ.
ಇರುವುದೆಲ್ಲವ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇದ್ದ ಹಾಗೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದ್ ಕಡೆಗೆ, ನಿಂತ ನಿಲುವಲ್ಲೆ ಹೊರಡುವ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ ಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರಿ ಹಿಂದೂ ಪಂಡಿತರಿಗೆ ಆ ತರ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಅದೇ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶವನ್ನ ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

The story of the Kashmiri Pandits is largely unknown, even in India, especially to folks like me who grew up in the 90s in South India who largely ignored the happenings in the Kashmir. Sahana Vijayakumar has painted a clear picture of the history and the gruelling exodus.
The narration moves back and forth between the present and the past. It also changes the point of views from one character to another. But none of it mattered. The topic the book deals with is something that matters to me. Reading news that’s different from what’s presented, seeing the artful turn of phrases, and delving deeper into topics that are labelled communal has become a part of life. The patterns are easy to trace once you know what to look for.
This book is a mirror- a reflection of what has been happening for decades. It is intellectually stimulating and though heavy on recent history keeps the reader hooked till the last page. It was hard reading this book without a lump in my throat. Sahanaji has evoked so wonderfully in her passages. This book clutches you by the neck and stares into your soul demanding you to listen.
Hats off to Sahanaji for giving us such a well-researched, well-versed novel on a sensitive subject like this, where one cannot argue with the context of the novel because of the real bibliographical facts provided at the end of the book.
It's a treasure trove of history. The story does not stress on ‘who was right or who was wrong’, but the facts given definitely educate us on ‘what was right and what was wrong’.
I have rarely read books that spoke of such deep emotions of love, hatred, guilt, angst and feeling of emptiness in depth and breadth, and very rarely all in one book. This is one such book that stands out for being fiercely brave in voicing Kashmiri Hindus’s journey. This book is a must read for everyone to know how exactly human life should not become- one run on religious bigotry, hatred, animosity and genocide.
Passionately beautiful, forceful, and thought provoking. Please buy this book first hand; no borrowing or buying from second hand shops.

There are only a few books, that has left me spellbound or shall I say Speechless? I live in WB which is slowly being Islamized and we face problems to some extent even in this Hindu majority country. I used to think that the problems of Kashmiri Pandits would be similar to mine. But I was wrong.
This book gives a complete understanding of the Kashmir issue through some fictional characters but that was needed to give this a storytelling format. The characters in this well-knit story tell us the level of persecution Kashmiri Pandits face even today. A few of those still remaining there.
This book clarifies a lot of details about Hinduism and Islam as well. To explain all these issues a storytelling format was absolutely necessary. Even though the story is extremely riveting and engaging - you can't read the book at once. After every two-three pages, you need to pause and think. The details given are so vivid and so lively that the readers almost feel themselves in that situation.
If I need to review this book in one line, that would be - "A must-read book for all Hindus", it can also be "If you are a secular Hindu, you will hate yourself after reading this book". If I need to give a one-word review of the book, that will be - "speechless".
The Kasmir issue probably couldn't have written any better. Hats off to the author's research on the topic. She had done something that no one will dare to do. I wish her all the best. And thanks to Indic Book Club, that has sent me the book for review.

कुछ पुस्तकें पढ़ कर उनकी समीक्षा करना इतना सहज नहीं होता है I वो तो पढ़ कर समझने और चिन्तन करने के लिए है l लेखक अपनी कथा के माध्यम से पाठकों को विवश कर देता है की वह उस कथा के पीछे जो अप्रिय सत्य है उससे साक्षात्कार करेl
कुछ ऐसा ही है कशीर के साथ l कहानी कश्मीर की है जो नरेंद्र के माध्यम से पाठकों को एक ऐसी यात्रा पर ले जाता है जो अंत में हमसे पूछता है कि एक अद्वितीय सुन्दर प्रदेश जिसका इतिहास क्रमशः उतना ही सुंदर और फिर बीभत्स है उसका उतरदायित्व किसके द्वार पर रखा जाए l हमारे देश का एक वर्ग ऐसा है जो अपने घर से निकाल कर अपने ही देश में शरणार्थी की श्रेणी में रख छोरे गए हैं I क्या इस असहनीय सत्य के उत्तरदायी कोई एक व्यक्ति विशेष है, कोई एक धार्मिक वर्ग है या अपनी आँख और कान बंद कर इसको असत्य की संज्ञा देते वो सारे राजनैतिक और बुद्धिजीवी समुदाय भी है जो कश्मीर की गुत्थी को सुलझने ही नहीं देना चाहते l
लेखक ने बहुत ही सम्वेदनशील तरिके से हमारे सामने कश्मीर की समस्या और कश्मीर हिन्दुओं पर हो रहे अत्याचार को उद्घाटित किया है l कैलाश की कहानी एक मानव मात्र की कहानी ना होकर एक पूरे समुदाय पर जो घटित हुआ उसका प्रतीक है l और अगर हम ध्यान से सुनें तो वो सभी लोग प्रतिदिन न्याय की घंटी को बजाते हुए गुहार लगा रहे हैं - मेगच्छ् इन्साफ।

One of the best books i have read after a long time. The ease with which the story shifts back and forth in time is excellent. My dissatisfaction with the prevailing answers to the deep-seated questions within me led me towards this book, and it confirmed the ignorance(or a collective bias) that I felt in the rhetoric of today's public discourses. You feel pain of characters in the book. It made me to rethink about our history, how much is true what are been though and what are been shown us.
I’ll be honest. I wasn’t sure about this book because I don’t often read Kannada novels. But this writer is very well known and after I put down this novel couple of days back, I bow down to her. Kasheer is a spectacular book that should be a wake up call to all Indians who have been writing false history for generations! I wouldn’t want to summarise the story and spoil the fun for others but I would really urge fellow book lovers to pick this up right now!

"ಕತ್ತಲೆಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಅಭಾವ ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ಕತ್ತಲು" (ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಿಂದ ಆಯ್ದ ಸಾಲುಗಳು). ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡ ಹಾಗೇಯೇ, ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವಂತದ್ದೇ, ಆದರೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅನಾವರಣಗೊಳಿಸುವವರ ಅಭಾವ. ಈ ಕೊರತೆ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಜಮ್ಮು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಧರ್ಮಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಘರ್ಷಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾರು ಮತ್ತು ಯಾವ ರೀತಿ ಕಾರಣೀಭೂತರು ಎಂಬ���ದನ್ನು ಎಳೆಎಳೆಯಾಗಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ನಾಯಕರ ಸ್ವಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆ, ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಕೊರತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಲಾಭಗಳಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡು ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗಳು ಹೇಗೆ ಬಲಿಪಶುವಾದವು ಹಾಗೂ ಆ ಜನಾಂಗದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅದು ಬೀರಿದ ಪರಿಣಾಮವನ್ನು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕವು ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಬಗೆಹರಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂದಿನ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಮಾಡಿದ ಎಡವಟ್ಟು, ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ಪಟೇಲರ ಅಸಹಾಯಕತೆ, ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ಕುತಂತ್ರದಿಂದ ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿದೆ. ದೇಶದ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸದೆ ಒತ್ತಡಕ್ಕೆ ಮಣಿದಿದ್ದು ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ. ಕಮ್ಯುನಿಸ್ಟರು ಸಹ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಬಗೆಹರಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರಾಸಕ್ತಿ ತೋರಿದರು ಎಂಬುದು ಪುಟಗಳನ್ನು ತಿರುವುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಅರಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜವಾಹರಲಾಲ್ ನೆಹರು ಅವರ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ಪಟೇಲರು ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೇ ಈ ದೇಶದ ಚಿತ್ರಣವೇ ಬದಲಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬುದು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಕಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಜಮ್ಮು-ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ವಿಲೀನದ ಕಥೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಅನುಚ್ಛೇದ 370 ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಸಂದರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕವು ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಧಿಕಾರದ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಘರ್ಷಣೆಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚುಹೆಚ್ಚು ನಡೆಯತೊಡಗಿದವು. ಈ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಧಿಕಾರವನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳು ಗುರಾಣಿಯಂತೆ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು
ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಮೋಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಸರ್ವವಿಧಿತ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕೂಡ ಜನರ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಹಕ್ಕು ಆಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರಣೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕತಾವಾದಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೂಲಭೂತವಾದಿಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಕಚ್ಚಾಟದಿಂದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಬಿಗಡಾಯಿಸಿತು. ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಯುವಕರನ್ನು ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರನ್ನು ದುರುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟಿವೆ. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿತ್ತುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ದ್ವೇಷ ಭಾವನೆ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ನರಕವಾಗಿಸಿದ್ದು ತುಂಬಾ ಬೇಸರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನೆರೆಯ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನದ ಕುಮ್ಮಕ್ಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಮತಾಂಧ ಉಗ್ರರ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರ ಬದುಕು ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ನಲುಗಿ ಹೋಯಿತು.
ಇದು ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಕಥೆಯಾದರೆ ಉಳಿದೆಡೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಜೀವಿಗಳು, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮುಖಂಡರು, ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಜಾತೀಯತೆಯ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೇಳೆ ಬೇಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದ ಭದ್ರತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿ ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಓಲೈಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ದುರದೃಷ್ಟಕರ.
ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಮತದ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿದ ರೀತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ವಿವರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಲೇಖಕಿ ಸ್ಥೂಲವಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ವಿವರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಸರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪಂಡಿತರ ವಲಸೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಅದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ಮನೆ ಮಠವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ತಮ್ಮ ಇಡೀ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಹೃದಯಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವೇ ಪರಕೀಯರಾಗಿ ವಲಸಿಗರಾಗುವ ನೋವು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಹ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆದರೂ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರು ಸಾಧಿಸಿರುವ ಪ್ರಗತಿ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಇಚ್ಛಾಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಮನೋಬಲವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಆಗಿರುವ ನಷ್ಟವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಡುವುದು ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಲೇಖಕಿಯ ಅಪಾರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಎದ್ದುಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದಾಗ ನಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಸತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾಣತನದಿಂದ ಮರೆಮಾಚಿರುವುದು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ಅನುಭವ. ಸಂಗ್ರಹಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಕೃತಿ ಎಂಬುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನವಿಲ್ಲ.

ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಮೋಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಸರ್ವವಿಧಿತ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕೂಡ ಜನರ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಹಕ್ಕು ಆಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರಣೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕತಾವಾದಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೂಲಭೂತವಾದಿಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಕಚ್ಚಾಟದಿಂದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಬಿಗಡಾಯಿಸಿತು. ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಯುವಕರನ್ನು ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರನ್ನು ದುರುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟಿವೆ. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿತ್ತುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ದ್ವೇಷ ಭಾವನೆ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ನರಕವಾಗಿಸಿದ್ದು ತುಂಬಾ ಬೇಸರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನೆರೆಯ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನದ ಕುಮ್ಮಕ್ಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಮತಾಂಧ ಉಗ್ರರ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜನರ ಬದುಕು ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ನಲುಗಿ ಹೋಯಿತು.
ಇದು ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಕಥೆಯಾದರೆ ಉಳಿದೆಡೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಜೀವಿಗಳು, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮುಖಂಡರು, ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಜಾತೀಯತೆಯ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೇಳೆ ಬೇಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದ ಭದ್ರತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಜೆಗಳ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿ ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಓಲೈಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ದುರದೃಷ್ಟಕರ.
ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಮತದ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿದ ರೀತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳ ವಿವರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಲೇಖಕಿ ಸ್ಥೂಲವಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ವಿವರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಸರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪಂಡಿತರ ವಲಸೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಅದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ಮನೆ ಮಠವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ತಮ್ಮ ಇಡೀ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಹೃದಯಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವೇ ಪರಕೀಯರಾಗಿ ವಲಸಿಗರಾಗುವ ನೋವು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಹ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆದರೂ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರು ಸಾಧಿಸಿರುವ ಪ್ರಗತಿ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಇಚ್ಛಾಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಮನೋಬಲವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಆಗಿರುವ ನಷ್ಟವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಡುವುದು ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಲೇಖಕಿಯ ಅಪಾರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಎದ್ದುಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದಾಗ ನಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಸತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾಣತನದಿಂದ ಮರೆಮಾಚಿರುವುದು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ಅನುಭವ. ಸಂಗ್ರಹಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಕೃತಿ ಎಂಬುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಮಾನವಿಲ್ಲ.

This is a sincere and honest attempt to bring out the fallacies committed by us as Indians by not empathizing and acting enough on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. For decades we have just been mute spectators to the largescale exodus of our brothers and sisters driven away from their homeland. The heart wrenching stories of the families of Kashmiri Pandits pinches the hearts of readers that are so vividly brought out by the author. Her attempt to research the problems faced by our brethren by staying in the tumultuous land is itself greatly laudable. Although fictional, the way she narrated the tales makes us realize our inaction as Indians. A bold and commendable attempt to portray the character of Narendra, with not just the shared name but the character too, which follows the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda.
Deep research on Islam put forth with facts and the attempt to provide a solution to this problem through dialogue and bringing them on to the path of growth and development and mixing the aimless youth with the rest of the society appears to be one of the practical and strong solutions to this problem. This book surely gives a great perspective and provides a valuable peek into the lives of Kashmiri Pandits. Almost a generation has elapsed since the exodus, and their tears have also dried up but I hope the fire in their hearts will ignite the ignored responsibility of fellow Indians. I am thankful to Smt. Sahana Vijayakumar to have written this book and to Sri Hemanth Shantigrama for translating this for people like me to read. You would be missing out something if you do not read this book.

ಕಷೀರ - ಸಹನಾ ವಿಜಯಕುಮಾರ್
ಇದನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಅಂತ ಕರೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಓದುವಾಗ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿದ ಯೋಚನೆಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ. ವಿಷಯಾಂತರ ಅಂತ ಅನಿಸಿದರೆ ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ.
ಸರಿಸುಮಾರು 2003 ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮದ ತುಂಬ ಎಡಪಂಥೀಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರ ದರ್ಬಾರು ನಡೆದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪ್ಪಟ ಹಿಂದೂವಾದಿಯಂತೆ ಬರೆದ ಪ್ರತಾಪ್ ಸಿಂಹ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯರಾದರು. ಈಗ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣಗಳು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾದ ಬಳಿಕ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ದನಿ ಬಂದ ಕಾರಣ ಈಗ ಆ ರೀತಿ ಬರೆದರೆ ಅದೊಂದು ವಿಷಯವೇ ಅಲ್ಲ.
ಭೈರಪ್ಪರ ಆವರಣ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅದು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಬಂಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿತೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ಅನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಅದು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಯಿತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟ ನಗ್ನ ಸತ್ಯಗಳೇ ಕಾರಣ. ಈಗ ಕಷೀರವೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ.
ಕಷೀರ ಹಲವು ಸತ್ಯಗಳ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಅವ್ಯಾವುದೂ ನಮಗೆ ಹೊಸದಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಪುಟಪುಟವೂ ಬರುವ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಶಾಕ್ ಕೊಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಫಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ, ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮ, ಸೈನಿಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಲ್ಲುತೂರಾಟ,ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರ ಮತಾಂಧತೆ,ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರೀ ಪಂಡಿತರ ದುಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ಇದ್ಯಾವುದೂ ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲದ್ದಲ್ಲ.
ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಅನೇಕ ಕಡೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪೂರೈಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಆಗಿ ಬಂಧ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಅಲ್ಲಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಪ್ಪು ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು(ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ) ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಕಪ್ಪು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಾಲಿಷವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಒಬ್ಬ ಹಿಂದೂವಾದಿಯಾಗಿ, ಬಲಪಂಥೀಯ (ಹಾಗಂತ ಇಲ್ಲ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಗಾಗಿ) ನನಗೆ ಓದುವಾಗ ಅಸಹಾಯಕ ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಬಂತು. ಆದರೆ ಅದಷ್ಟೇ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಯಶಸ್ಸೇ? ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಾಗಿ ನನಗೆ ನಿರಾಶೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿತು.
ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಸದ್ಯದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಕುರಿತ ಲೇಖಕಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಪುಟ ಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ.
ಬಲಪಂಥೀಯರಿಗೆ ರಕ್ತ ಕುದಿಯುವಂತೆಯೂ, ಎಡಪಂಥೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಬಳಗದವರಿಗೆ ವಾದ ಮಾಡುವ ರೊಚ್ಚು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವ ಓದು ಇದು.
ರಸಾಸ್ವಾದನೆಯೇ ಓದಿನ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾದವರು ಓದಬೇಕೆಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಷ್ಟನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಪಡೆದದ್ದೇನು ಅಂತ ನನಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಇದನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಅಂತ ಕರೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಓದುವಾಗ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿದ ಯೋಚನೆಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ. ವಿಷಯಾಂತರ ಅಂತ ಅನಿಸಿದರೆ ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ.

ಕಷೀರ ಹಲವು ಸತ್ಯಗಳ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಅವ್ಯಾವುದೂ ನಮಗೆ ಹೊಸದಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಪುಟಪುಟವೂ ಬರುವ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಶಾಕ್ ಕೊಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಫಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ, ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮ, ಸೈನಿಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಲ್ಲುತೂರಾಟ,ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರ ಮತಾಂಧತೆ,ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರೀ ಪಂಡಿತರ ದುಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ಇದ್ಯಾವುದೂ ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲದ್ದಲ್ಲ.

ಕಾಶ್ಮೀರದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಸದ್ಯದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಎಲ್ಲದರ ಕುರಿತ ಲೇಖಕಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಪುಟ ಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ.
ಬಲಪಂಥೀಯರಿಗೆ ರಕ್ತ ಕುದಿಯುವಂತೆಯೂ, ಎಡಪಂಥೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಬಳಗದವರಿಗೆ ವಾದ ಮಾಡುವ ರೊಚ್ಚು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವ ಓದು ಇದು.
ರಸಾಸ್ವಾದನೆಯೇ ಓದಿನ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾದವರು ಓದಬೇಕೆಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಷ್ಟನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಪಡೆದದ್ದೇನು ಅಂತ ನನಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಒಂದು ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ , ಇದನ್ನು well researched Documentation ಅಂತ ಕರಿಯಬಹುದು.
ಪ್ರತಿ ಪುಟವು ಕಶ್ಮಿರ ಪಂಡಿತರ ನೋವನ್ನ, ಅವರು ತುಳಿದ ಮುಳ್ಳಿನ ಹಾದಿಯನ್ನ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ.
ಪ್ರತಿ ಪುಟವು ಕಶ್ಮಿರ ಪಂಡಿತರ ನೋವನ್ನ, ಅವರು ತುಳಿದ ಮುಳ್ಳಿನ ಹಾದಿಯನ್ನ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ.

ದುರಾಡಳಿತದ ಕತ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ, ರಕ್ಕಸರು ರಕ್ತದೋಕುಳಿ ಆಡಿ ಮಲೀನಗೊಂಡ ಅಚ್ಚ ಬಿಳಿ ಪುಣ್ಯಭೂಮಿ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವಾಸಿಗಳ ಯಾತನಾಮಯ ಕಥೆಯಿದು. ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಭೀಕರ ಅಮಾನುಷ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳ ಕಥೆ. ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಂತರಾಗಿ ಸಮಾಜದ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಹಿನಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಬದುಕಬ���ಕೆಂದುಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ವಧರ್ಮೀಯರನ್ನೂ ಕೊಂದ ಕರುಣಾಜನಕ ಕಥೆ. ಈ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರವಾಗಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಆಗುಹೋಗುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಸಮೀಕರಿಸಿ ಬರೆದ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ - ಕಶೀರ.
"ಮುಂದೆ ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಧರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆರೋಪವೆನಿಸಬಾರದು ಹಾಗೂ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯ ಅನರ್ಥಗಳಿಗೂ ಆಸ್ಪದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಧರ್ಮದೆಡೆಗಿನ ನನ್ನ ನಿಲುವಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟನೆ ನೀಡಲೇಬೇಕು. ನನ್ನ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಧರ್ಮವೆಂದರೇ ನ್ಯಾಯಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿರು��ುದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ. ಹಿಂದೂ, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ, ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ, ಸಿಖ್, ಪಾರ್ಸಿ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ನೂರು ನೂರು ಧರ್ಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸುವ ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ನಾನು ಪಾಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಸೆಕ್ಯುಲರ್, ಜಾತ್ಯಾತೀತ ಎಂಬ ಹಣೆಪಟ್ಟಿ ನೀಡಿದರೇ ನನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮಾತ್ರದವನಷ್ಟೇ"
ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ನಡುವೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗುದ್ದಾಟಗಳು ಇಂದಿನದಲ್ಲ. ೧೯೪೭ರ ನಂತರ ನಡೆದ ದುರಂತ ವಿಭಜನೆಗೂ ಮುಂಚಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ದಾಂಧಲೆಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ತಪ್ಪಿದೆ. ಇದು ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೀಮಿತವಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ನಾವು ನೋಡಿದಂತೆ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಧರ್ಮಗಳು ಅವರ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಹಿಂಸ್ರಪಶುಗಳಂತೆ ವರ್ತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವ ಸತ್ಯವೇ. ನೀವು ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಓದಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಶೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಷಯಗಳು ನಿಮಗೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ ಎನಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ, ಲೇಖಕಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸಹನಾ ವಿಜಯಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಬದಿಗಿರಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕಾಲ್ಪನಿಕ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದು ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಕರುಳು ಹಿಂಡುವ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿ ಅಲ್ಲ.
"ನಮ್ಮ ಮೊಟ್ಟ ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ವಲ್ಲಭಭಾಯ್ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೇ" ಎಂಬುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಂತ ಭಾರತೀಯನ ಕಮರಿಹೋದ ಕನಸು. "ಹಿಮಾಲಯನ್ ಬ್ಲಂಡರ್" ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಶ್ರೀಯುತ ನೆಹರೂರವರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ಸಾಗರೋಪಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಿಪಡೆದಿತ್ತು. ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಜಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಗಳು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡ ನಿರ್ಣಯಗಳು ಸೈನಿಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನಾಗರಿಕನನ್ನು ಬರ್ಬರವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಎಡೆಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು. ೫೬೫ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸಿ ಭಾರತ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ರಿಗೆ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ಶಾಂತಿಯುತವಾಗಿ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಲ್ಲದ ಮಾತೇನೂ ಆಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಂದಿನ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ರಾಜ ಹರಿಸಿಂಗ್ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಗಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿಯೂ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ವಲ್ಲಭಭಾಯ್ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಮೌನವಹಿಸಿದ್ದೇಕೆ? ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಹಾಕಿದ ವಿಷಯಗಳಾವುವು ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರವಿದೆ.
ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿದಾಗ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಚಿಂತನೆಯ ಓರೆಗೆ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದು "ಭಾರತೀಯರ ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುತೆ". ಸೋತು ಬೆನ್ನಾಗುವ ವೈರಿಯನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಕ್ಷಾತ್ರಗುಣವನ್ನು ಅಗತ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪಾಲಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತಾ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಭಾರತ ಎಂಬ ನೈತಿಕ ಆಂದೋಲನಗಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರವೇ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಘಜನಿ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ನಿಗಿಂತ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಪೃಥ್ವಿರಾಜ ಚೌಹಾಣರ ಗೋರಿಗೆ ಪಾದರಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಡೆಯುವ ಪದ್ದತಿ ನಿಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಕಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಅಂದು ಘಜನಿ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಶರಣಾಗತನಾದಾಗ ಕ್ಷಮಿಸದೇ ಹೋಗಿದ್ಧರೆ ಎಂಬ ಅಸಂಭವನೀಯ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಕಮರಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುವಾಗಬಾರದಿತ್ತು ಭಾರತ!!!
ಧರ್ಮಾದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿತ್ತುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಿಷಬೀಜವೇ ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ರಕ್ಕಸ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೂಲವೇನೋ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ನ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪುಷ್ಟಿ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಅರ್ಥೈಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಮತಾಂಧತೆಯ ಪರಮಾವಧಿಯೇ ಸರಿ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ ಸೂರಹ್ಗಳನ್ನು ಧರ್ಮ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಯ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಹೋಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಉಗ್ರಗಾಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವ ಕೆಲವು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಂದ ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಧರ್ಮದೆಡೆಗೆ ಬೆರಳು ಮಾಡುವುದೂ ಕೂಡ ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ ಅನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಚಿಗುರಬಹುದು. ಅಂದ ಹಾಗೇ ದುಷ್ಕರ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು ಮರಣಾನಂತರ ಲಭಿಸಲಿರುವ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ಕುರಿತೇ ಇರುವುದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ. ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಕಾಶವಾಗಿ ಸುಖಿಸಿದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾವೆಯೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ.
ರಾಜ ಹರಿ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಗಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಜಿನ್ನಾರವರು ಹೂಡಿದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಹುನ್ನಾರಗಳಿಗೆ ಭಾರತ ಬಗ್ಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಆಜ಼ಾದಿ ಏಕೆ ಬೇಕಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅರಿಯದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರು ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭಾರತದ ಕೊಂಡಿ ಕಳಚಿದ್ದೇ ಆದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪಧ್ಬರಿತ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ಲಪಟಾಯಿಸಲು "ಹಿಂದಿ-ಚೀನಿ ಭಾಯಿ ಭಾಯಿ" ಗಳು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೇ ಇರುವುದು ದುರಂತ. ದೈತ್ಯ ಚೀನಿ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವ ಸಕಲ ಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ದೈತ್ಯ ದೇಶಗಳ ವೈರತ್ವ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಇದೆಯಾ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೇ ಆಜ಼ಾದಿ ಎಂದು ಅಮಾಯಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಲ್ಲದೇ, ಚೀನಾಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾದ ಸಾಲದ ಮೊತ್ತವೂ ಭಾರಿಯಾಗೇ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ.
ಇವಿಷ್ಟು ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಒಳಹುಗಳಾದರೇ ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿಯೂ ಕೂಡ ಕಶೀರ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬೀಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಅಪ್ಪಟ ಸಂಶೋಧಕ ಆತನ ಆಪ್ತ ವರ್ಗ, "ಸೆಕ್ಯುಲರಿಸಂ" ಅನ್ನು ಮೂರ್ಖರಂತೆ ಪಾಲಿಸುವ ಸಂಪಾದಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜಮುಖಿ "ಲೇಖಕಿ"ಯರು ಒಂದೆಡೆಯಾದರೇ ದೂರದ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಪಂಡಿತರ ನತದೃಷ್ಟ ಕುಟುಂಬ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರಕ್ಕೆ ರಕ್ತದ ಕಲೆ ಅಂಟಿಸಿದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಿದೂಗಿಸಿ, ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿ, ಅಳೆದು ತೂಗಿದಂತಹ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿ, ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವಲ್ಲಿ ಕಶೀರ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರದ " ಮರಳಿ ಮನೆಗೆ" ಎಂಬ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ವಿಶೇಷ ತಿರುವ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಓಘ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ತೀವ್ರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿರುವ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಷಯ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿರುವುದು. ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಪಂಗಡಗಳ ವಾದವಿವಾದ ಸಾಧಕ ಬಾಧಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ನಂತರ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವೇ ಒಂದು ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿರುವುದು ಇಡೀ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬಹುಮುಖ್ಯ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯ.
ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರೊಬ್ಬರ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಡೈರಿಯು ಬಂದುಹೋಗುವ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಎಂತಹ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕರಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ ಮೂರನೆ ಬಾರಿ ಓದಲು ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಡೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೊಂದು ೩೦-೩೫ ಪುಟ ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ "ಸಾಕು ಈ ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯ" ಎಂದು ಓದುಗ ಚೀರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅಲ್ಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ. ಊಹೂಂ ಮನುಕುಲ ಚೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ ೬ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಿಂದ ನಡೆದಿರುವ ೨೭೦ ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ಕೋಟಿ ಜನರ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮಕ್ಕೆ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೇಳಬೇಕು ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದ್ವೇಷ ಸೇಡು ಎಂಬುದು ಊಟೆಯೊಡೆದರೂ ಏನೂ ಮಾಡಲಾಗದ ಅಸಹಾಯಕತೆ ಕಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಕಾರಣವೋ, ಧರ್ಮದ ನೈತಿಕತೆ ತಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆಯೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದಷ್ಟೂ ಬೇಗ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಿಯಾಗಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮೇಲಿನ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿ ಎಂದಷ್ಟೆ ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಅವನು ಮೊದಲು ಕಶ್ಮೀರಿಯೋ ಅಥವಾ ಭಾರತೀಯನೋ, ಮೊದಲು ಮನುಷ್ಯನಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ.
ಕೆಲವು ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಕೆಲವು ಕಾಯ್ದೆಯ ತಿದ್ದುಪಡಿಯ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಭಾರತದ ಸದ್ಯದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೋಲುವುದು ಕಾಕತಾಳೀಯ. ಇರಲಿ!!! ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕತಾವಾದ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ದೇಶಭಕ್ತರುಗಳು ಓದಲೇಬೇಕಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಪಕ್ಷ, ಅದರ ಐಡಿಯಾಲಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ ತೊಂದರೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವಾದರೂ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಗಾಳಿ ಬೀಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೇ ಪುಣ್ಯ. ಹಿಮದ ರಾಶಿಯನು ಹೊದ್ದು ಮಲಗಿದ, ಅಂತಹ ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ನಡೆದ ಕಾಲದಲೂ ಒಂದು ಹನಿ ರಕ್ತ ಸೋಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದು ರಕ್ತ ಹಾಲು ಮೊಸರಿನಷ್ಟೇ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾಕು ಈ ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯ!!!

ದುರಾಡಳಿತದ ಕತ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ, ರಕ್ಕಸರು ರಕ್ತದೋಕುಳಿ ಆಡಿ ಮಲೀನಗೊಂಡ ಅಚ್ಚ ಬಿಳಿ ಪುಣ್ಯಭೂಮಿ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವಾಸಿಗಳ ಯಾತನಾಮಯ ಕಥೆಯಿದು. ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಭೀಕರ ಅಮಾನುಷ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳ ಕಥೆ. ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಂತರಾಗಿ ಸಮಾಜದ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಹಿನಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಬದುಕಬ���ಕೆಂದುಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ವಧರ್ಮೀಯರನ್ನೂ ಕೊಂದ ಕರುಣಾಜನಕ ಕಥೆ. ಈ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರವಾಗಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಆಗುಹೋಗುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಸಮೀಕರಿಸಿ ಬರೆದ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ - ಕಶೀರ.
"ಮುಂದೆ ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಧರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆರೋಪವೆನಿಸಬಾರದು ಹಾಗೂ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯ ಅನರ್ಥಗಳಿಗೂ ಆಸ್ಪದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಧರ್ಮದೆಡೆಗಿನ ನನ್ನ ನಿಲುವಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟನೆ ನೀಡಲೇಬೇಕು. ನನ್ನ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಧರ್ಮವೆಂದರೇ ನ್ಯಾಯಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿರು��ುದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ. ಹಿಂದೂ, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ, ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ, ಸಿಖ್, ಪಾರ್ಸಿ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ನೂರು ನೂರು ಧರ್ಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸುವ ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಂಶಗಳನ್ನು ನಾನು ಪಾಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಸೆಕ್ಯುಲರ್, ಜಾತ್ಯಾತೀತ ಎಂಬ ಹಣೆಪಟ್ಟಿ ನೀಡಿದರೇ ನನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮಾತ್ರದವನಷ್ಟೇ"
ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ನಡುವೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗುದ್ದಾಟಗಳು ಇಂದಿನದಲ್ಲ. ೧೯೪೭ರ ನಂತರ ನಡೆದ ದುರಂತ ವಿಭಜನೆಗೂ ಮುಂಚಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ದಾಂಧಲೆಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ತಪ್ಪಿದೆ. ಇದು ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೀಮಿತವಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ನಾವು ನೋಡಿದಂತೆ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಧರ್ಮಗಳು ಅವರ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಹಿಂಸ್ರಪಶುಗಳಂತೆ ವರ್ತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವ ಸತ್ಯವೇ. ನೀವು ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಓದಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಶೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಷಯಗಳು ನಿಮಗೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ ಎನಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ, ಲೇಖಕಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸಹನಾ ವಿಜಯಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಬದಿಗಿರಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕಾಲ್ಪನಿಕ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದು ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಕರುಳು ಹಿಂಡುವ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿ ಅಲ್ಲ.
"ನಮ್ಮ ಮೊಟ್ಟ ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ವಲ್ಲಭಭಾಯ್ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೇ" ಎಂಬುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಂತ ಭಾರತೀಯನ ಕಮರಿಹೋದ ಕನಸು. "ಹಿಮಾಲಯನ್ ಬ್ಲಂಡರ್" ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಶ್ರೀಯುತ ನೆಹರೂರವರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ಸಾಗರೋಪಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಿಪಡೆದಿತ್ತು. ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾಜಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಗಳು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡ ನಿರ್ಣಯಗಳು ಸೈನಿಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನಾಗರಿಕನನ್ನು ಬರ್ಬರವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಎಡೆಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು. ೫೬೫ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸಿ ಭಾರತ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ರಿಗೆ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ಶಾಂತಿಯುತವಾಗಿ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಲ್ಲದ ಮಾತೇನೂ ಆಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಂದಿನ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ರಾಜ ಹರಿಸಿಂಗ್ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಗಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿಯೂ ಸರ್ದಾರ್ ವಲ್ಲಭಭಾಯ್ ಪಟೇಲ್ ಮೌನವಹಿಸಿದ್ದೇಕೆ? ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಹಾಕಿದ ವಿಷಯಗಳಾವುವು ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರವಿದೆ.
ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿದಾಗ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಚಿಂತನೆಯ ಓರೆಗೆ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದು "ಭಾರತೀಯರ ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುತೆ". ಸೋತು ಬೆನ್ನಾಗುವ ವೈರಿಯನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಕ್ಷಾತ್ರಗುಣವನ್ನು ಅಗತ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪಾಲಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತಾ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಭಾರತ ಎಂಬ ನೈತಿಕ ಆಂದೋಲನಗಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರವೇ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಘಜನಿ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ನಿಗಿಂತ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಪೃಥ್ವಿರಾಜ ಚೌಹಾಣರ ಗೋರಿಗೆ ಪಾದರಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಡೆಯುವ ಪದ್ದತಿ ನಿಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಕಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಅಂದು ಘಜನಿ ಮೊಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಶರಣಾಗತನಾದಾಗ ಕ್ಷಮಿಸದೇ ಹೋಗಿದ್ಧರೆ ಎಂಬ ಅಸಂಭವನೀಯ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗಿ ಕಮರಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಸಹಿಷ್ಣುವಾಗಬಾರದಿತ್ತು ಭಾರತ!!!
ಧರ್ಮಾದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿತ್ತುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಿಷಬೀಜವೇ ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ರಕ್ಕಸ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೂಲವೇನೋ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ನ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪುಷ್ಟಿ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಅರ್ಥೈಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಮತಾಂಧತೆಯ ಪರಮಾವಧಿಯೇ ಸರಿ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ ಸೂರಹ್ಗಳನ್ನು ಧರ್ಮ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಯ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಹೋಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಉಗ್ರಗಾಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವ ಕೆಲವು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಂದ ಇಸ್ಲಾಂ ಧರ್ಮದೆಡೆಗೆ ಬೆರಳು ಮಾಡುವುದೂ ಕೂಡ ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ. ಪವಿತ್ರ ಖುರಾನ್ ಅನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನವತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಚಿಗುರಬಹುದು. ಅಂದ ಹಾಗೇ ದುಷ್ಕರ್ಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳು ಮರಣಾನಂತರ ಲಭಿಸಲಿರುವ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದ ಕುರಿತೇ ಇರುವುದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ. ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಕಾಶವಾಗಿ ಸುಖಿಸಿದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾವೆಯೇ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ.
ರಾಜ ಹರಿ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾಗಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ಜಿನ್ನಾರವರು ಹೂಡಿದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಹುನ್ನಾರಗಳಿಗೆ ಭಾರತ ಬಗ್ಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಆಜ಼ಾದಿ ಏಕೆ ಬೇಕಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅರಿಯದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರು ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭಾರತದ ಕೊಂಡಿ ಕಳಚಿದ್ದೇ ಆದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪಧ್ಬರಿತ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವನ್ನು ಲಪಟಾಯಿಸಲು "ಹಿಂದಿ-ಚೀನಿ ಭಾಯಿ ಭಾಯಿ" ಗಳು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೇ ಇರುವುದು ದುರಂತ. ದೈತ್ಯ ಚೀನಿ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವ ಸಕಲ ಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ದೈತ್ಯ ದೇಶಗಳ ವೈರತ್ವ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಇದೆಯಾ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೇ ಆಜ಼ಾದಿ ಎಂದು ಅಮಾಯಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಲ್ಲದೇ, ಚೀನಾಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾಕಿಸ್ತಾನ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾದ ಸಾಲದ ಮೊತ್ತವೂ ಭಾರಿಯಾಗೇ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ.
ಇವಿಷ್ಟು ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಒಳಹುಗಳಾದರೇ ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿಯೂ ಕೂಡ ಕಶೀರ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬೀಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಅಪ್ಪಟ ಸಂಶೋಧಕ ಆತನ ಆಪ್ತ ವರ್ಗ, "ಸೆಕ್ಯುಲರಿಸಂ" ಅನ್ನು ಮೂರ್ಖರಂತೆ ಪಾಲಿಸುವ ಸಂಪಾದಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜಮುಖಿ "ಲೇಖಕಿ"ಯರು ಒಂದೆಡೆಯಾದರೇ ದೂರದ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಪಂಡಿತರ ನತದೃಷ್ಟ ಕುಟುಂಬ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರಕ್ಕೆ ರಕ್ತದ ಕಲೆ ಅಂಟಿಸಿದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸರಿದೂಗಿಸಿ, ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿ, ಅಳೆದು ತೂಗಿದಂತಹ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿ, ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವಲ್ಲಿ ಕಶೀರ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರದ " ಮರಳಿ ಮನೆಗೆ" ಎಂಬ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ವಿಶೇಷ ತಿರುವ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಓಘ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ತೀವ್ರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿರುವ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಷಯ, ಕಶ್ಮೀರ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿರುವುದು. ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹಿಂದೂ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಪಂಗಡಗಳ ವಾದವಿವಾದ ಸಾಧಕ ಬಾಧಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ನಂತರ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವೇ ಒಂದು ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿರುವುದು ಇಡೀ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬಹುಮುಖ್ಯ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯ.
ಕಶ್ಮೀರದ ಪಂಡಿತರೊಬ್ಬರ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಡೈರಿಯು ಬಂದುಹೋಗುವ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಎಂತಹ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕರಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ ಮೂರನೆ ಬಾರಿ ಓದಲು ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಡೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೊಂದು ೩೦-೩೫ ಪುಟ ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ "ಸಾಕು ಈ ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯ" ಎಂದು ಓದುಗ ಚೀರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅಲ್ಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ. ಊಹೂಂ ಮನುಕುಲ ಚೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ ೬ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಿಂದ ನಡೆದಿರುವ ೨೭೦ ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ಕೋಟಿ ಜನರ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮಕ್ಕೆ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೇಳಬೇಕು ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದ್ವೇಷ ಸೇಡು ಎಂಬುದು ಊಟೆಯೊಡೆದರೂ ಏನೂ ಮಾಡಲಾಗದ ಅಸಹಾಯಕತೆ ಕಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಕಾರಣವೋ, ಧರ್ಮದ ನೈತಿಕತೆ ತಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆಯೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದಷ್ಟೂ ಬೇಗ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಿಯಾಗಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮೇಲಿನ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿ ಎಂದಷ್ಟೆ ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಅವನು ಮೊದಲು ಕಶ್ಮೀರಿಯೋ ಅಥವಾ ಭಾರತೀಯನೋ, ಮೊದಲು ಮನುಷ್ಯನಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ.
ಕೆಲವು ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಕೆಲವು ಕಾಯ್ದೆಯ ತಿದ್ದುಪಡಿಯ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಭಾರತದ ಸದ್ಯದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೋಲುವುದು ಕಾಕತಾಳೀಯ. ಇರಲಿ!!! ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕತಾವಾದ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ದೇಶಭಕ್ತರುಗಳು ಓದಲೇಬೇಕಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಪಕ್ಷ, ಅದರ ಐಡಿಯಾಲಜಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ ತೊಂದರೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ಕಶ್ಮೀರವಾದರೂ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಗಾಳಿ ಬೀಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೇ ಪುಣ್ಯ. ಹಿಮದ ರಾಶಿಯನು ಹೊದ್ದು ಮಲಗಿದ, ಅಂತಹ ಕುರುಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ನಡೆದ ಕಾಲದಲೂ ಒಂದು ಹನಿ ರಕ್ತ ಸೋಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದ ಕಶ್ಮೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದು ರಕ್ತ ಹಾಲು ಮೊಸರಿನಷ್ಟೇ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಾಕು ಈ ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯ!!!

It's been quite some time since that fateful period when the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus took place by none other than what were and still is considered as 'Minority', in a vegetative and pitiful state, in a modern Holocaust. Even after so many years those innocent eyes are still waiting for the justice to be served though their biggest flaw is to expect it from the law and system and not taking the onus in their own hands. This book through a fictional story bring into light how the Hindus were diabolically betrayed ironically in the nation proudly termed as 'Hindustan'
The way every Hindu was forced to either vacate their place or convert into Islam and the women were forced to stay back brings tears to eyes and numb one's senses in despair. The atrocities over a set of people belonging to a specific religion and how cruelly they were murdered can stir even the strongest of souls out there.
The worst part was secular groups who shouts for human rights for morons like Burhan Wani or Umar Khalid or Afzal Guru or thousands of such lot stayed numb even today and this major issue sadly don't get any limelight. And full marks to the author for bringing this and crafting it in such a highly researched way with every single fact at various juncture that people who haven't heard of it can only lay in shock at the audacity of blatant criminals.
The cover is breathtaking and this novel was originally written in Kannada and hence the title is also in the same language which actually translates to Kashmir. It is also available in Hindi and English and just like almost all the books by @garudabooks this one should also be read by every true Hindu (read Indian) and must find its place in History books too. And authors like @sahana should get a place in the creation of curriculum of highly prolific NCERT history books which are nothing but an amalgam of propaganda run by some senseless JNU scholars.

When I was growing up my father was a soldier in the Indian Army and Kashmir was his last posting before he retired, As you know, families of Indian army officers can move into specific regiment's cantonments, but this part of the country is excluded as it is plagued by hapazards.
Indians still mistake Kashmir for an apple-producing state while ignoring the existential crisis faced by fellow Kashmiri pandits. Ambushes carried out by Pakistani/terrorist outfits on our defence personnel are a casual occurrence on any given day in this part of the land. It is appalling that even today, politicians with anti-India agendas practice divisive politics to support the so-called peaceful religion in their Jihads
Although it is extremely difficult to put the pen to the paper to narrate the injustice that occurred to Kashmiri Pandits, In this story, the author presents a clear picture that covers the factors such as the laws, behavioural dynamics of the radicals and stories from both sides of the equation..

Kasheera is an excellent piece of work which revolves around the Kashmiri Pandit exodus that took place in the 1990s. The high standard of language is beautifully used by the author who doesn't fail to transport you to Kashmir. There were moments where I snapped back to reality only to realise I'm not in Kashmir but sadly at home. The book not only addresses the bloodbath of the kafirs but also focuses on how this bone chilling exodus was neglected by most part of the country including the then government. Sahana Vijaykumar explicitly showcases the propoganda of nullifying such heinous horrors against a rather peaceful (real one) community by the so called intellectuals through their decades old manners of guilt tripping and the infamous word 'secularism' hushing the truth. The way youth are misled with unrealistic promises to work as per the invisible hands' greed and bloodlust is explained so well. Hridaynath Pandit who often sees Adi Shankaracharya in his dreams who never answers his question on the dawning future, awaits the same eloquent savior hailing from south to help him and others ease out of the pain they had been holding for years.
Kailash Pandit is the most affected person in the whole work who lost his both children to the hungry mouths and guns of his neighbours driven by the taste of blood and lust. Would he get his justice? Maybe, the tattered neighbor is already shaken awake by the ringing 'bells' of his consciousness of the things he let happened almost 30 years ago.
When Mushtaq, a young man grown up with lies full of nothing but hate realises he's just been used as a mere pawn and neither he nor his place would witness any transformation it's already too late. His best friend Salim's character turned out to be my most loved one who a mere driver gives his best to make everything easier for the Pandits around him.
I wouldn't wish to talk about the negative characters here but I do praise the writer for addressing the real issues knocking the psyche of each and every person sided with a number of facts and references. I just love the way she depicted the sickening mentality so called journalists and 'writers' who would stoop lower at any length to prove themselves 'progressive'. The main character Narendra, an independent scholar and researcher in whom Hridaynath attempts to find Shankaracharya himself is such a beautifully constructed character. He walks the lanes of the Kashmir empowering Hridaynath and Kailash, giving an unexplained brother like comfort to Sanjeev Kaul promising Salim that men like him wouldn't go unheard amid the screeches of misled youth. Narendra plays the role of what you call a propaganda buster laying down the facts. But his work doesn't just stop there he moves beyond that helping Basheer realise that it's only him and his God who decide if he has true loyalty to God Himself but no leaders and definitely not a single propagandist.
I love this book very much I really do. I loved the writing of the author, her presentation manner, the way characters are constructed. The way Mushtaq realises he wants to change and that change wouldn't be won by hating and pelting stones but through questioning the ones who used him as pawns and introspecting himself. I recommend this book to everyone it's both in Hindi and English and trust me this book will be your most loved one. Kailash Pandit will forever reside in your heart, so will Salim. Most of us don't know a thing about Kashmiri Pundits or Hindus as my closest friend would love to be called. These Kashmiri Hindus went through the same exodus not once or twice but 7 times. They're living in their own home as refugees. Still they raised up and they always. They're the bravehearts with full of hope and optimism. They're the children of Sage Kashyap himself and their stories need to be heard and they need to be supported from every corner of the country. My love and respect to all the brave Kashmiri Hindus.
My heart was heaving with pain and I was completely transported to the beautiful place itself and I loved how Mother Kashmir herself questions the disappearance of Kshaatraguna of her children while Narendra directs old Hridaynath Pandit to look within and find the saviour he had been waiting for. As the book ended the pounding memory of a girl who got raped and murdered which paralleled the story of Girija Tikkoo made sure it doesn't exit from my memories.
This book is a must for everyone. Dunno if you'd read this to savour the language or to learn of the dark history we barely were told about but we should never let Kashmiri Pandits be treated like outsiders again in their own home because they're the children of Rishi Kashyap, the creator of Kashmir herself.
Kailash Pandit is the most affected person in the whole work who lost his both children to the hungry mouths and guns of his neighbours driven by the taste of blood and lust. Would he get his justice? Maybe, the tattered neighbor is already shaken awake by the ringing 'bells' of his consciousness of the things he let happened almost 30 years ago.
When Mushtaq, a young man grown up with lies full of nothing but hate realises he's just been used as a mere pawn and neither he nor his place would witness any transformation it's already too late. His best friend Salim's character turned out to be my most loved one who a mere driver gives his best to make everything easier for the Pandits around him.
I wouldn't wish to talk about the negative characters here but I do praise the writer for addressing the real issues knocking the psyche of each and every person sided with a number of facts and references. I just love the way she depicted the sickening mentality so called journalists and 'writers' who would stoop lower at any length to prove themselves 'progressive'. The main character Narendra, an independent scholar and researcher in whom Hridaynath attempts to find Shankaracharya himself is such a beautifully constructed character. ಕಶೀರ/ Kasheer ( English Translation) was published in the year 2018 just before the abolition of dreadful act Article 370.
Though I’m a little bit late for this read. Had picked it up twice before and couldn’t read more than 20 pages because of its slow paced writing book picks up speed only after 50 pages or so. It was worth the wait and a bit intense as well as provoking. Nor have I watched the kashmir files movie or knew anything of course about Kashmiri Hindus before the abrogation of the article.
Says a lot about our education system or the Media that had easily slid this genocide under the rug. Kashmir means nothing but stone pelting and violence is what it has been reduced to until 2019.
Firstly author has done a phenomenal job in narrating the plight of Kashmiri Hindus. Every page gives you a clear picture of her research on the subject. She had even visited Kashmir while writing this book.
I can say author has tried her best to steer clear from SLB’s shadow. Traces of Avarana can be seen. Forget about it and go for it.
Secondly it takes a lot of courage to write about Islam and their “so called holy book”.
There are lots of references from verses of Quran well about everything from jihad to whataboutery in that cult. Keeping note of it was a bit difficult.
Thirdly book goes on from one timeline to another. Be it Tragic partition -> Reasons and blunders by Neru which made this problem more a clustershit that eventually ended with a genocide of its original inhabitants being killed, raped,tortured finally thrown out -> Islam and its conquest -> infamous stone pelting and many more which we might have heard or not heard about.
Many of my doubts got cleared in between too.
Some characters like Kailash Pandit or the Helpless couple Sanjeev & Arti portrays the current situation of the Kashmiri Hindus.
Many instances shows the irresponsibly of the most secular✋🏼 government and their affair with separatists of POK.

Kasheera delves deep into the history of Kashmir through the ages. The author tries to relate the current state of affairs in Kashmir to the historical happenings . The place known as knowledge centre - place of Sharada- Sarvagna peetha- Sharda script slowly decays into anarchy- thanks to religious persecution, atrocities, looting for hundreds of years, terrorism, Islamic fundamentalism to the state it is now. Most of the facts that can be extracted from the novel is in public domain. However, as Dr S L Bhyrappa in Preface mentions, to melt history into a story and elevating it as Sahitya is creative genius of the author. The author Sahana Vijayakumar has succeeded in doing this.

Even after the abrogation of Article 370, the relevance of this book hasn’t diminished a bit. Since the 1990s, Kashmir has seen rapid altering of its demography which hasn’t been undone in any substantial way to this day. The revered Sharda shaktipeeth remains on the wrong side of the LoC while the abode of Shaivism hasn’t seen large scale Herath celebrations in decades. These facts and recent news of hindus being targeted in Kashmir by terrorists lay bare the canards of any democratic progress.
Kasheer talks about stories of betrayal of the Hindus of Kashmir and of their hopes and resilience. It gives a glimpse, and an unsettling one at that!, as to how it feels when a civilization which was in full bloom for thousands of years is reduced to tokens of settlements far too scattered and few. I have been struggling to find words to write about this book. The betrayal of the kashmiri hindu population is gut wrenching. Sahana Vijaykumar brings forth the helplessness of the kashmiri hindu's as the government and the entire country ignored their plight.
It is a well researched retelling of the history of Kashmir through fictional characters.
The book is not only about the genocide of the kashmiri hindu population but also about how the Muslim community is used ruthlessly and duped. How normal,simple people can be driven to commit horrific acts of violence. The murderous frenzy of the mob reminded me of the famous play Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. The author brings forth the inherent strengths and weaknesses of each religion. She also highlights how the media manages to sway people's minds. The heartbreaking reality of the native population whose truth is manipulated and twisted to suit a few powerful people should serve as a cautionary tale for all. The author makes the characters relatable as the story is set in the present day and the protagonist Narendra too is learning about the exodus.
The efforts taken to research and present facts makes this not just a novel but a handbook for the history of Kashmir.

I have to admit that I did not know of what happened to the Kashmiri Hindus in 1990, when the actual genocide took place. I heard about it for the first time around 7 years ago. Later I saw some videos and read few articles.
Through this book the author takes us through the entire scenario of what happened in Kashmir from the past 70 years. Through various characters she also brings to us the history of what all happened through the centuries in this beautiful land.
The research she has undertaken to write this book is to be appreciated.
It is a book that should be read by all Indians to understand what Kashmir is about before commenting on the Kashmir issue.

This book is written outstandingly well taking all aspects into consideration like fiction, history, politics, and religion. Another heart wrenching book, which brings to light the suffering of a forgotten community. This book presents fairly accurate historical and cultural view of the happenings in the Valley most of which get obscured away from the general public by the Indian and foreign media and the Indian Government.
I would recommend this to every person trying to understand the Kashmir issue.
This book clarifies a lot of details about Hinduism and Islam as well. The details given are so vivid and so lively that the readers almost feel themselves in that situation. The Kashmir issue probably couldn't have written any better. Hats off to the writer and of course the foreword written by Shri Bhyrappa, the eminent writer was also a pleasure to read

Kasheer, a novel written by Sahana Vijaykumar , originally in Kannada and translated into English by Mr. Shantigrama is based on the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus.
After Aavarana, Kasheer is the best novel ever I read on the historical facts. Subject of Genocide of Kashmiri Hindus is always kept hidden by liberals, seculars and politicians because it hurts sentiments of So called minority community. Very few literature is written on this and Sahana ji did excellent job.
This is the story of millions of Kashmiri Hindus and the story of great betrayal. Novel starts with Narendra , an independent researcher and panelist who went Kashmir after the death of his brother Major Arjun to know the truth and situations in Kashmir.
In Kashmir he met to Sanjeev and Aarti Kaul, who were victim like millions of Kashmiri Hindus. Narendra's visit in various places in Kashmir with Sanjeev and local guy Salim unearthed the various facts and information of the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. Sahana ji explained with excellence about the radicalism of Muslims , hatred against army, India and against Hindus. Their engineered works of stone pelting and anti India mindset is explained accurately by the examples of Maulvi, Musthaq and his mother, Bashir's wife, Asif and many more.
Chapter 20 of novel, which is the narration of Kailash Pandit, by his diary on the Genocides of Kashmiri Hindus is the most excellent work in entire novel. Kailash's early bond with Bashir and his family, and the Killing of his son Satish and rape of his daughter Savita by the son of Same Bashir, grief and helplessness of Kailash is heart wrenching.
Characters like Meeradevi and the editor is the perfect depiction of entire left lobby and their ecosystem and their ties with politicians. Examples of DU professor and the so called student icon is the reality which we are experiencing from last decade.
Bond between Narendra and Kaul family, love and compassion between Sanjeev and Aarti, their struggle is excellently depicted.
Hemant Shantigrama did excellent work in translating and the main feature is that the essence of novel is not lost in the translation....

Let me start the review by acknowledging the English translator : Shri Hemanth Shantigramha Ji. According to me he has done an excellent job translating the book from Kannada, the language in which the book is originally written in. Unfortunately , i do not know kannada , so i haven't read the book in that language , so i cannot compare the translation. However , i still feel that the translator has done an excellent job , as i did feel the emotions that the author probably wanted the reader to feel , while reading this book.
Kasheer , means Kashmir in the Lost Koshur language. This is a multi narrative book and we see the events happening in the book through the perspectives of several people such as Narendra(The protagonist) who calls himself a researcher , but is much more than that , Mushtaq (a stone pelter in Kashmir) , Meeradevi quote , unquote , an activist , Kashmir itself , Kailash Pandit , Hridyanath Pandit ,Bashir Ahmed and many other people. Honestly , this is the only thing that i can nit-pick about this book . Too many narratives , which by the way , are all interesting to read about. So i wouldn't particularly blame the author for not editing them out. But these many narratives might be too much for a beginner. An intermediate level reader will not have a problem though.

Narendra , the main protagonist , is a man who if exists in real life , can be the inspiration for many. A man with such deep knowledge and understanding of several topics , it is next to impossible for him to loose a debate about a topic , which he is well aware about , the list of those topics , btw , is endless. The amount of information that the author has provided us through his character , about several topics such as , our history , Mohammad , Islam and many other topics , is INSANE!! The amount of research done by the author is also unbelievable. Some amazing topics were truly interesting to read about , like the origin of azaan and hijab. But reading about some things like the origin of stone pelting , it truly breaks one heart. The author has given proper sources and bibliography for almost everywhere when required. I can personally vouch for the author on this , because i spent the past two weeks , basically fact-checking the book.
So Narendra travels to Kashmir , after having a debate with Meeradevi , when she mentions that how can you comment on Kashmiris by only reading books and not actually visiting the place and seeing the plight of the people. He is welcomed by Sanjeev Kaul , a Kashmiri Pandit. Sanjeev helps Narendra discover the real Kashmir , not the reel one that tourists visit. He visits the homes of the people who stay thier , the past homes of the Kashmiri Pandits , pre-exodus He was deeply moved by seeing the standard of living that the pandits were used to and how they were living now.He also meets people like Kailash Pandit , whose story , if you read and not cry , you are not human. He also helps people like Salim and Mushtaq , who are confused about thier future. I truely appreciate the character of salim . According to me , He is the true definition of a muslim. He , unlike many others in Kashmir , but like several other true Muslims in the rest of the world , believes in Peace and ignores the voilent aspects of his religion and religiously follows those parts that promoye harmony.
The book goes in graphic detail about how Kashmiri Pandits were murdered and the women abducted by Islamic extremists. The details are disturbing , yes , but also a very important part of the book , for the readers to understand why the Kashmiris had no other choice but to flee. The way these people are brainwashed , fleeing was the only choice. History is eyewitness , these people had to flee out of their homes SEVEN TIMES! Now they are living as Refugees at their own land. I will reccommed this book to each and every person , regardless of thier ideologies .The Kashmir issue probably couldn't have been written any better in a fictionalized manner. Hats off to the author's research on the topic. She had done something that no one has dared to do. Will definetely read more of her work in the future.

The way these people are brainwashed , fleeing was the only choice. History is eyewitness , these people had to flee out of their homes SEVEN TIMES! Now they are living as Refugees at their own land. I will reccommed this book to each and every person , regardless of thier ideologies .The Kashmir issue probably couldn't have been written any better in a fictionalized manner. Hats off to the author's research on the topic. She had done something that no one has dared to do. Will definetely read more of her work in the future.
