For as long as she can remember, Lauren Merriweather has fought to separate herself from her mother - by focusing on school and developing her healing powers. Like her mother, she’s a natural-born witch, but unlike her mother, Lauren is not a killer driven by hatred. But, when a fight with her rampaging mother drives Lauren to seek relief in alcohol and mindless flirting, her world is twisted violently out of her control. Lauren’s attraction to David is as immediate as it is undeniable - to the extent that she forgets about the spells that have, until now, kept her from getting close to a man. But, David Fredricks is the government operative investigating her mother for murder, and he and his partner have determined that Lauren is their best lead. As far as David is concerned, Lauren and her mother are both witches, and that makes them little better than monsters. Lauren’s allure doesn’t change the fact that her mother is a vicious serial killer, and he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to stop her. An interrogation goes too far, and Lauren finds herself bound to David in a way that neither of them could ever have imagined - and her very survival depends on her trusting the same people who stole her identity.
I know it lazy but read the previous positive reviews. They summarized it well. It also explains in a two ( I think) about the negative rating and why.
What a brilliant first novel. If you enjoy a magical tale this is for you. However, it is darker, erotic and delicious. Lauren is a brilliant character. A young witch beginning her journey in life. Trapped in her mother’s world and ensnared in her mother’s spells. Complications abound. Michaela has developed a great plot. Fantastic characters who develop as you delve into this magical little gem of a book. The theme is quite dark but gorgeously flows from page to page. David is quite another character. Human with all his alpha male limitations. He is the yang to Lauren’s ying. Be warned that there are graffic passages of beautiful sex. Quite a bit non consensual but written perfectly into the plot. It is easier to understand what someone goes through when they don’t have control over their sexual games. Michaela writes that well. There is a BDSM scene that is simply beautifully written. This book naturally leads to a follow up. Anyone who reads it is going to want to follow Lauren and David as they traverse the next phase in their relationship. Five bursting shooting stars for Michaela, David and Lauren.
This a great book. I loved it so much I couldn’t stop reading it. It has everything; romance, lust, a little violence, suspense, drama. I can’t wait for the sequel.
I’ll admit, I was a little worried about reading this novel after reading a particular review; however, I found it to be a captivating storyline that transcends genres. It has just enough supernatural to lend it a uniqueness that is spellbinding (no pun intended), while not being so out of the box as to seem overwhelming or cliche. The lust and romance aspects are realistic, unconventional, and addictive! I am seriously looking forward to the next installment!!!!
By the way, I read this book in one evening because I couldn’t put it down!
Jumps right in with the “action”. Was not as much spice as you’d expect from the description I got of the book before I bought it but that’s not always a bad thing. I actually prefer storyline. Will definitely add the next book to my TBR list
