As Christians, we believe that Jesus has invited us into a new kind of life with him—one that is full, free, and for others. And yet many of us don’t actually experience this promised life. We continue to act out of fear, withhold grace, refuse forgiveness, drown in worry, return to old habits, tolerate distraction, and harbor a desire to be right. While inspirational stories abound in our world and fill the devotional books on our shelves and apps on our phones, inspiration does not equal transformation. Transformation only happens when we open ourselves in God’s presence and align with His work in us and the world. But many of us just don’t know how to do this or where to begin. This book provides a way.Sacred Questions invites readers into a daily personal practice of reading Scripture and responding to questions arising from the text about God, themselves, and others. Guiding readers over a yearlong journey into an open posture and daily heart examination and reflection, the book helps them see themselves more clearly, understand more about who God is, break patterns of sin, and grow in forgiveness and love. One day at a time, readers learn how to partner with God in their transformation into Christlikeness and live the full, free, and others-centered life Jesus offers.
The author has done a magnificent job of providing content that goes down smooth like milk and honey but sticks to the ribs. She encourages us to ask sacred questions and to then be still and listen well to what God is speaking. Who doesn't need this in their lives?
This is such a refreshing change in the genre of devotionals. Kellye asks thought-provoking, meaningful questions as you study Scripture and offers a unique perspective to how we do so. The format is engaging, it doesn't feel burdensome to read/study through, and for someone who leads a busy life (and who among us doesn't?), this offers a chance to slow down and breathe deep. I have loved every part of this book and can see myself going back again and again for spiritual refreshment and formation.
Kellye Fabian is just the sort of writer I respect--incredibly gifted in her craft, and incredibly dedicated to putting heart, thought, and research into what she writes. Her first book reflects her wisdom and life experience. This devotional invites readers to be question-askers, and equips them to listen, reflect, and find the sort of spiritual answers that satisfy. A year's worth of wisdom between the covers. You'll be wiser, too, for this read.
Epic book. Kellye Fabian has written a new genre of devotional. Sacred Questions is to devotionals what expository teaching is to preaching. A years worth of devotional readings, reflections, and prayers are gleaned from the wisdom of scripture and presented within the framework of fourteen themes relevant to spiritual formation. Along the way the author courageously shares her story, and what a story it is. This is not Chicken Soup for the Soul. It is a rich and savory stew. This beautiful book has the potential to ground the reader in the heart and mind of the Father, form the reader in the image of the Son, and show the way to be led by the Spirit.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! Kellye's writes humble, honest introductions to each section of her devotional, and her vulnerability is a beautiful thing. There is always something I can relate to, and so often she writes my thoughts - how does she know? And then I turn to the daily reading, and she has ushered me into the presence of God, allowing me to meet with Him in a very personal way.
Kellye is an incredible writer. She gives the reader a framework that feels safe and comfortable. The flow of her words makes sense - not super-flowery, but also not super-intellectual. It's a perfect balance to allow for readability and leave space for the Spirit to speak. I can see myself using this devotional over and over again, because my answers to the sacred questions will change over time and season.
I don't always use a devotional book, but when I do I want it to be thought provoking and rooted in truth. This book is just that. Kellye asks great questions and doesn't spend a lot of time telling you what she thinks, but instead challenges you to wrestle with what you think as you work your way through different passages of scripture.
I have really enjoyed reading this book because of the questions and deep reflections it prompts. It is truly a process and unlike many devotional it can be used in multiple ways for what you are going through I. Your life right now. It can even be reread for new experiences. I also really enjoy the personal touches Kellye provides with her stories and reasoning behind the prompts.
If you’re looking for the perfect Christmas present (or a gift for any occasion) be sure to give Sacred Questions by Kellye Fabian. It’s a thought-provoking, workbook for the soul & devotional. One of the best I’ve had the pleasure of reading.
Kellye Fabian has used her powerful gift of language, along with a deep and wise soul, to create a wonderful resource for us. This is wonderful. And deeply needed!
I am not usually a big fan of devotionals — I prefer to read academic theology. The theological rigor of this devotional makes it exceptional! It is rooted in a clear grasp of the story of the Bible and invites us to join that ongoing story. The short commentaries on the verses are enlightening, and the questions are piercing. This is one devotional I enjoy and am excited to recommend.
This devotional naturally invites you into communion with God. With thought provoking questions and invitations to ponder the Scriptures, Kellye helps her readers to slow down and be still in the presence of God. This devotional is unlike any other and you will not be disappointed!
This is a great devotional in a wonderful format. Kellye Fabian has written a devotional that directs one toward contemplating Scripture, not her own words. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new devotional!!!!!
What I like best about Sacred Questions by Kellye Fabian is the focus on Scripture and questions raised from the text rather than on the authors devotional thoughts. This book would be a great selection to enhance or begin your daily devotional time.
This is a very different kind of devotional and one that, for me, is very welcome. It focuses more on the Bible and less on personal anecdotes. You find yourself digging deeper into the passage for the day and learning what God wanted you to learn on that day. I can see this getting practically yearly use because of its structure and intentions. An absolute must have.
Kellye Fabian's is a needed voice in the world of devotional resources. I've sometimes struggled with devotionals, but Sacred Questions consistently asks important, transformative questions that help me connect with Scripture and with how to live out my faith in a meaningful way. The content here is weighty but always accessible.
Sacred Questions is one of the best devotionals I've ever put my hands on! I absolutely love the practice of asking questions as I study the Bible, and the questions she asks (or encourages the reader to ask of themselves) help me to deepen my understanding of Scripture and of God. The way it is written allows me to select themes that are applicable to my life, and also allows the book to be read over and over, offering something new every time! I highly, highly recommend Sacred Questions to everyone I meet.
Kellye Fabian is one of the best question askers I know! I am so grateful for the role this has played in my own life and spiritual journey and I’m excited that she is now offering this gift to the world! Here’s what Kellye says about using her new book Sacred Questions as a daily practice.
“Asking sacred questions each day is meant to help you reflect on what God revealed as you read. Examine your thoughts, attitudes, and actions in his presence and with his guidance. The questions are meant not to merely increase your biblical knowledge but to reveal the state of your soul, allowing you to partner with God as he shapes, heals, and transforms you.”
Through her thoughtful questions and daily invitations to respond, Kellye reminds us that inward change is not just for ourselves but always for the sake of the world. This book will truly “lead you on an intentional journey from the inside out.”
I finally finished! I really enjoyed working through this over the past 13.5 months. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a yearly devotional that makes you think.
This book by Kellye Fabian is a refreshing change in the word of devotionals. We get to read Kellye’s story and reflections, but what this book does that so few do is direct you straight to Scripture to delve deeper and ask your questions. As the Kellye writes in her introduction : “ As I reflect back, I can see that God has used this practice of asking questions to show me who He is, allow me to see myself more clearly, break patterns of sin, grow in forgiveness and love, and join His work in the world.”. This is exactly what I was looking for, that soul searching conversation with God to help me grow, learn and change. Through the year the devotions are broken down into fifteen different sections which focus on topics to help you find your way back to God in a new and different experience. Even though I am not finished the book, the journey so far has been so thought provoking and it has challenged me in so many different ways to face things not only from my past but also my present. I feel lighter and closer to God. I am really looking forward to continuing my journey of faith for the following year. Thank you so much to Tyndale House for an advanced copy of this book for my open and honest review.
This book is a journey little bits at a time. I found it easier to digest in bite sized pieces where I can sit little by little with it ans journey through. It helped me identify scripture and ask myself deeper questions like in a spiritual direction capacity. For me in this season it works for me. It may not work for everyone but I find it helpful to deepen my personal spiritual practice.
