Travel back in time with this enchanting novel from Jack Sheffield...
For the residents of Ragley, the small Yorkshire village, the war is finally starting to feel like a distant memory. Gone are the days of rationing and sacrifice, replaced with the joys of spin-dryers and Beatlemania.
But Lily Feather can't quite forget the events of the war and the years that followed. Buried in her past remains a terrible secret from which she cannot escape but that still threatens her fragile family. After the death of their mother, her brother, Freddie, has come to depend on her and her husband, but their lives will soon change for ever.
On the cusp of adulthood, Freddie's life is simple: all he really has to worry about is school, girls and a spot of rugby. But when he stumbles across his family's secret past it is his life that is changed forever. A dark history lies between Freddie, Lily and the truth and they begin to question how much they'll have to sacrifice along the way.
Readers love Changing Times:

Jack Sheffield (born Jack Linley, 1945) is a British author who wrote a series of books of fiction about the headmaster of a village school in a fictional Yorkshire village. The stories are set from the late 1970s to the early 1980s and attempt to portray life in Yorkshire as it was at that time.
He was trained as a teacher at St John's College, York and later became head teacher of two schools in North Yorkshire and then senior lecturer in primary education at Bretton Hall.
He took up writing after retirement, and his first novel "Teacher, Teacher!" sold 100,000 copies
Couldn't be bothered to read to the end of this book. I have really enjoyed the teacher series but the last two offerings 'Starting Over' and this one are just not written with the same light touch. The story of teacher Lily which began in the first book is picked up in this offering several years later. But the whole story line just drags on and is so repetitive that in the end I just lost all interest i the outcome. Sorry Jack sheffield but I think I am pretty much done with this series.
Brilliant author - love the story, the characters and the appropriate language used - so easy to read, very engaging specifically if you're from teaching profession even if you're not you'll find lots of situations to have a giggle about I've read the first one in chronological order which is Starting Over (1950s)then is Changing Times (1960s) and now I'm going to carry on with Teacher Teacher (1970s)
I have always looked forward to a new book from Jack and yet again this one didn't disappoint. Gave an insight of the war of ragley before Jack's arrival and couldn't put it down. Was lovely to get to know the lives of all the characters in the books. Bravo sir another wonderful book
I enjoyed reading this. Another lovely study set in the Yorkshire Dales with characters we have read about before. Great 1960s nostalgia in the 2nd prequel to Jack Sheffield’s series of books. It continues the story of Lily Briggs (now Lily Feather) after her mum has died and continues the story of Freddie. A heart-warning study of love, unrequited love, sacrifice, hope and friendship.
Had a dickens of a time getting hold of this book, which seems to be available only in hard copy. It's interesting in that we meet Ruby, Vera, and the others at much younger, pre-Head Teacher Jack era. It is fun to see the characters in earlier moments in their life and knowing what will become of them.
As always, I enjoyed this latest book by Jack Sheffield. The setting of 1963/64 provided a lovely trip down memory lane as I was 10/11 at the time. it brought back many memories, including sitting my eleven plus, and the many mentions of hit records and stars of the time has left me determined to look out my Sounds of the 60s CDs! I look forward to what the author does next.
Another wonderful book in The Teacher series by Jack. As always a joy to catch up with characters who have become like friends over the years. Another favourite is to be reminded of the fashions, news & music of the period! Well done Jack & long may the teacher series continue.
Another lovely Jack Sheffield story, expertly continues the prequel of the Teacher series. It's full of the usual charming and unique characters of the familiar North Yorkshire village. An uplifting read, I really enjoyed this one.
