Janae and Kai gave us a little of everything: a second chance at first (and only) love, humor, definite heat, chemistry, and a glimpse at how young love can mature into something much more intense and real if the people involved are open to trying again. Kai was definitely not your standard Magic Mike kinda guy, which I absolutely loved. He was smart, mature, and went after the woman he loved and wanted back without any hesitation. Janae was a little harder to love, but that’s mainly because I felt so bad for her self-imposed misery, thanks mainly to her upbringing and fears of being left behind or, even worse, of tethering someone to her who truly wanted to be free. Once that was understood, I felt for Janae so much and was so glad to see her willing to go all-in with Kai in a truly adult relationship. I only regret the situation with Slater. It was written very well and I felt that the emotions of all three were genuinely captured, but I wish he’d been honest from the get-go about his mission. I did, however, like how it was all resolved: no muss, no fuss, no real drama. And that epilogue? GOLD. I adored the family that this club was and loved how everyone was in on the plan to give Janae and Kai their HEA.
