When Icarus, a powerful quantum computer researching the birth of the universe on the space station, Gravity, suddenly stops co-operating with the crew, the computer’s chief programmer, Sam Yeager, is sent from earth to fix the problem. While working on Icarus, Sam discovers that the machine has made a startling discovery about the origin of the universe that it refuses to divulge. Additionally, Sam learns of a plot to sabotage the computer, that could lead the death of crew the crew.
I was born in Alexandria Egypt but grew up in Greece. I've lived and studied in South Africa and in London. In Australia, I taught screenwriting and digital media, and have completed a Ph.D in narrative studies. I like stories of all sorts, but I especially love science fiction, horror, and thrillers or any mixture thereof. I'm also looking forward to being the first octogenarian on board that manned mission to Mars. As long as I can upload my next novel to Kindle from up there, that is.
A stunnningly well written book with some interesting twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. An AI quantum computer is sent to space to discover the origins of the universe. The computer begins “behaving” in a strange way, and Sam is sent to solve the problem. The computer has developed some human emotions and refuses to answer Sam. With a bit more research, Sam begins to find some strange events, with the computer and secrets amongst the crew. In his search to find the source of the problem, Sam is blocked in many ways. The ending will both surprise and amaze you. Another wonderfully intriguing and well written book by Stavros Halvatsiz, who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. A must read!!!
A satisfying tale of a machine's journey to wisdom
The author has a good writing style, the characters were believable, and the plot is unique in that it involves and AI learning to handle emotion, and the outcome of that. The ending is positive and uplifting, makes me hope people can be as good as some machines are.
