An exercise in nostalgia, as I last read Tom Sawyer around 60 years ago. I remembered the rafting, but had forgotten the cave, and a lot more. Dated - so what! Young Barrie relived the fun and excitement of juvenile adventure.
This was one of the books I missed as a child, and I think I probably enjoyed more as an adult anyway. Though some of the attitudes jar at times, you have to remember the context it was written in. It works as an adventure story, and I particularly enjoyed the way the language was used.
I really enjoyed reading this book. My favorite part was when the boys pretended to be pirates and went to the island, mean while their families were terrified because they thought that they had all passed away.
Un clásico juvenil muy entretenido, con historias bonitas y conmovedoras. Lo interesante es que no sólo conocemos a Tom Sawyer y a sus amigos, sino también podemos darnos un mejor idea de la sociedad americana en esa época. Muy recomendable, es un libro para leer desde la primaria.
It was fun to re-read this book after a visit to Hannibal MO, Mark Twain land. And also very interesting to see the language used in the 1800s and think about what would and would not be acceptable today. Huck Finn is next
