Записки о политике России на Кавказе. Описываются восстания азербайджанцев против русских оккупационных войск. Сочувственно обрисованы защитники Дербента. Alexander Alexandrovich Bestuzhev (Russian: Александр Александрович Бестужев; 3 November 1797 – 19 June 1837), was a Russian writer and Decembrist. After the Decembrist revolt he was sent into exile to Caucasus where Russian Empire was waging the war against the Caucasian peoples. There writing under the pseudonym Marlinsky (Russian: Марлинский) he became known as a romantic poet, short story writer and novelist. His works for a time were more popular than those of Alexander Pushkin He was killed in the exile in a skirmish.
Poetic account of Russian army destroying Kumykia and Dagestan in the brutal conquests of 1830s, which Bestuzhev participated in, after being sent to Caucasus as a Decembrist.
Towns and villages razed to the ground along with their inhabitants with relentless artillery attacks, retribution campaigns by "merciful" generals. All for the glory of the Russian Emperor and arms.
Savagery of the victor put in very beautiful words.
