This was definitely better than the first book in this kind-of series, mostly because I liked these characters SO MUCH MORE.
Alec is a much better and more intriguing love interest and I related to Felicity a lot (mainly because she's a redhead WHATEVER). Their story was just a lot more interesting which made the plot more interesting, and I loved Felicity really realizing what she wanted for her future outside of what she thought was expected of her.
I really loved Alec's character in The Heartbreakers so I was really happy to see him have his own story, and there was a lot less misogynistic boy talk because the other guys in the band were not as prevalent in this book so that was a major plus.
Overall, nothing super special but a cute, fun, light read all the same in my fave guilty pleasure trope category of famous-guy-dates-normal-girl.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO GIVE ME A GOOD YA CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE RIGHT NOW OR I WILL LOSE MY MIND.

This book... (what? 150?) I'm going insane from my apparently fantastical search for a lead female and male that don't make me want to claw my own eyes. I'm honestly exhausted from writing long reviews for books I would rather let me dogs gnaw on than keep on my bookcase so I'm going to make it simple.

Felicity: what we in the fanfiction biz call a Mary Sue. She's awesome. Always sees the brighter side after bitching about everything. Youve never met anyone more hardworking or kind...She's just... PERFECT... and by perfect I really mean unbearably boring. The second chapter between hours of school, charity work and scrupulous penny pinching (because lord does she mention 800 times how poor she is and therfore frugal) she somehow scrapes together the time to construct some sort of Van Gogh, prodigie-type face masks from some cheap shit she found at the Bargain Bin or whatever.

I am a-okay with characters being kind, artistic, innovative, self-sacificing, and generous for no good reason - all that good people shit that I wasn't born with. However. Felicity makes the fatal flaw of telling not showing. She constantly talks about her down and out circumstances, giving me the impression that she secretly hates everything and is just too "good of heart" to fully commit to a bitch-fest.

It's my biggest pet peeve.

Being angry about your life is normal. It's healthy. How you recognize the things that you don't like and move forward from them is the mark of a truly well-developed character. I think Felicity's character is stuck right before that game starts- she has a vague, ditzy idea that something just isn't right but either doesn't have the brain cells or the balls to confront it.

Alec: he's quite, shy, has a look of utter "loneliness but also hopeful" in his drop dead gorgeous face. He's such a. Nice. Guy. Very nice. Just a doll.

Flat characters made up the majority if this book. What was weird was that there were some interesting backstories that SHOULD have made Felicity seem like more than a shadow in her own story. Her mom was a Orange County housewife turned single mom and her sister actually ran away and was never heard from again. Interesting. I think the issue was the lack of commitment that seemed to be implemented toward these details. Almost like the author was scared to add too much in due to attention span issues.

Also, the fact that there was a vague sense of Felicity blaming her mother for them being poor did not vibe with me. Anyone who makes it seem like a child is supporting a functioning adult who's actually trying for their child, clearly has never been in that kind of circumstance.

Maybe I'm just too old for these books anymore? Ugh. That's so sad to think about.

Ugh. After being sorta surprised (in a good way) by the first book, I am decidedly unimpressed with this companion novel. It was overkill and boring and I never sensed the romantic connection. And this time, the only band member who didn't annoy me was Alec. I'm assuming there's going to be a book for each Heartbreaker, but I don't think I care to see the series through...

I blame my high expectations for being disappointed with this book. I enjoyed Heartbreakers so much especially the characters and one of my fave is Alec so I was really excited to read Paper Hearts.

Paper hearts was a let down for me for various reasons:
1. The progress is so slow. There were a lot of scenes which I think were not relevant.
2. It was not written in Alec’s POV. Alec is the silent type and mysterious so it could have been better if it was written in his POV. Dual POV is better too.
3. The female protagonist is not interesting at all.
4. The supporting characters are also boring.

I still recommend it though if you are into light read.

gave up. This book was too slow and a bit silly. I didn't even like Felicity's friends was a bit annoyed when they invited themselves along on this road trip. Felicity was boring, Alec was shy and though I love shy types, it didn't grab my attention enough.

Paper Hearts is the second book in Ali Novak's The Heartbreaker Chronicles, but can be read as a standalone. The Heartbreakers are a band and each book focuses on a different couple but we do see the characters from the previous book. I really loved the first book in the series, and was really excited when I saw that the second book was finally out, especially since it includes a road trip. I love road trip stories! Unfortunately, I didn't think this one lived up to the first book.

I didn't feel like I connected with the main characters as much as I did with the couple from the first story. Alec was so closed off and emotionless that it was hard to tell how he was feeling about anything. I think the author was going for the shy, "mysterious" type but he just came off kind of flat to me. Felicity is hard-working, money-conscious and very focused on her education. She had a lot of drama going on around her to focus on, and I just didn't end up feeling any spark between them at all. I feel like I ended up loving the secondary characters more than the main characters in this one. I was more interested in Boomer and Asha's relationship than Alec and Felicity's.

The ongoing theme in this book is miscommunication, or just not communicating at all. It drove me a little crazy if I'm being honest. First we have the whole mystery of where Felicity's sister disappeared to and why, secrets her mom is keeping, then we have Felicity's best friends not telling her that they are secretly dating, then Felicity assumes all the wrong things about Alec instead of talking to him like a normal person.....it was a bit repetitive. If I'm being honest a lot of the drama felt a little unbelievable and soap opera-ish at times too.

While I didn't end up loving this one nearly as much as the first one, I didn't absolutely hate it either. I ended up settling on 3 stars because I did enjoy most of the characters. The secondary characters are what ended up making this one for me. I liked when Felicity finally got things figured out about her sister too. I just didn't feel any chemistry or spark between the main characters so I couldn't get behind the romance side of things.

The Heartbreakers is one of my favorite contemporary novels, so when I found out there was a sequel with Alec, I almost freaked. Alec was my favorite character in the first book and I fell in love with him even more in this one. He is the sweetest man with such great manners and a soft personality. Felicity was a great partner for him. She's been through a lot when it comes to her family -- enough to sound like a daytime soap opera. But she still hangs out and fights through. She's very passionate and educated. Her two best friends, Boomer and Asha, were great sidekicks and comedic humor.

I'll be honest, though. The book isn't the best one every written, nor is it the most realistic. But it's fun and exciting. This series helps you take your mind off the real world and just focus on the fun that all of these amazing characters are having together. It helps you realize that though your life isn't going the way you'd want it to, you still have your friends who are there to help you through it. And having fun every now and then and acting like a kid isn't going to hurt anything.

I highly recommend this book to any romance or contemporary lovers out there. This really is one of the best series out there and it needs more love.

Paper Hearts was a quick and entertaining book! The characters were all charming and fun to read about. Some of the antics and drama in this book were a bit silly and hard to believe. I felt like a lot of the things that happened in this book would never actually happen. However, it was still fun to read it about when I wasn't thinking too hard about how crazy some of the things seemed. It was a fun escape for a fangirl like myself.

This book really focused on Felicity, the main character, and her crazy dramatic/soap opera life. Her life was a bit ridiculous at times, but it added some drama to the story. Felicity was a funny and quirky character. I liked how down to earth and determined she was, even when things were going a bit insane. I liked the coming of age journey she went on and admired her growth throughout the story. There were times I wanted to scream at her, but I did really like her as a whole.

Alec was a shy and adorable character. His quietness was extremely endearing and precious. He made me SWOOOOOON. I JUST WANT TO HUG HIM. HE IS SO STINKING CUTE! Alec was a bit of a mystery, which was very alluring, but I still would have liked to get to know a little more about him.

There was a lot of miscommunication in this book. Characters made assumptions and didn't talk things out. A lot of the drama could have been solved quickly if the characters would have communicated!!!

The fangirl side of me LOVED the aspect of a boy band. I am forever a boy band lover, so I was basically dying at imagining dating a boy in a band. I would have liked to see even more of the band in this book, but I still loved the boy band moments that we did have. THE BOYS ARE ALL BESTIES AND IT WARMS MY HEART. THEIR SCENES WERE GREAT. I love all the boys, and I want to marry each one of them.

The romance in this book was super cute! I thought Alec and Felicity made a really sweet pair.

Overall, this was a fun and quick read. I would recommend this to people who are looking for a fun escape.

I don't think I can write a proper review, no matter how much I wish I could, because this book deserves everything and more- just so I can be able to give back some of the happiness it gave me.

This was way too adorable for me to handle. I literally had to put the thing down a few times to be able to calm myself down and focus enough to continue reading.

I really loved book 1- it was such a pleasant surprise cause it exceeded my expectations. But this one, given how closer to my heart it felt (because, duh, it's about Alec!) this one was on a whole different level. I deeply enjoyed getting into Alec's head (along with Felicity, because this was in her pov, obviously). He was my favorite in book 1 as well and I was over the damn moon when I found that book 2 would have him in focus. I loved getting to know him better, to get a glimpse both into his personality and into the intricate ways of his life (I found the bits about his relationship with his father super interesting, I wish there could have been a bit more depth to it, but I get that it wasn't possible, since this, again, was from Felicity's pov so I'm not going to complain anyway).

Felicity's character was really amazing as well, and she had a whole mess of family drama of her own, and I enjoyed seeing her deal with all the situations thrown her way- both with her family, and her group of friends- in a graceful, but still realistic manner. She was a character I definitely enjoyed reading about. Also, Asha and Boomer were entertaining side characters (although Asha was a bit annoying sometimes).

I'm constantly in awe of Ali Novak's way of writing all kinds of complex relationships and family dynamics. That's one of the aspects that makes this reading experience the richer for me. Also her characters are incredibly relatable, no matter how "distant" they feel from one's reality.

I just love, love, loooooooooooooved this so damn much. Honestly can't wait to read more.

A little heavier than the first one, but still had an adorable romance, and I was excited to see Alec get his HEA.

We got to attend a couple of black-tie affairs, as well as go on a road trip, which is always a good idea. In-between, there was some physical and soul searching, some uncovering of secrets, and some fun with the rest of the Heartbreakers.

Ali Novak continues to enchance us in this sequel!!!!

I am completely over taken with the mood of this book and am continuously connected phrases from the book to my life! Suddently, all I want is a romance with a comfortable yet intriguing silence!

Every chapter, an exciting one or not, keeps you on the edge of your seat. I didn't think it was possible, but Ali Novak has topped the first book with this amazing sequel!!

We follow the story of the secretive quiet member, Alec, of the Heartbreakers, the well known famous band as we come to know in the first book. Beside being a musician, Alec has other layers to his character. He talks less, he likes helping others and he's fascinated by small things. He meets Felicity in a party and he falls for her subtle charm. Felicity's life is kindda complicated. Her sister has disappeared for four years. She doesn't know anything about her sister ever since. Her mom told her that her sister ran away and that they don't have any further details if she's still alive or not. Supporting her mom, Felicity tries her best to be the perfect daughter whom her mother wants her to be. Knowing that there is another crack in her life as her father ran away, too, before. When Alec and Felicity's paths intertwine, their friendship grows to something more, especially that secrets unravel and hurts start to flow into their lives.
.
Charcters: reading about Alec's character brought me joy seriously. I'm always interested in quiet people for some reason. They are observants and quite interesting as they seem to look at things from different angles😏 loved the frienships in the story as well. Felicity's friends are so endearing. They care about their friend that they always support her and care for her feelings. They even go on the trip she goes to with her so that they emotionally support her with her struggle. Meeting the Heartbreakers again made my day. I love their characters, and JJ as usual makes me lol. The friendship comes to bulid up between Filicity and Alec's friends is so heartwarming🙂
.
Plot: it's well built. Yet I felt that there was something off about the relationship growing between the protagonists. I don't know. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable and fun read!

Paper Hearts, the second book in the Heartbreaker chronicles, is a quick, cute and fun summer read. It's a fun contemporary, with road trips, music and a solid friendship group.

Despite that, sometimes the cliches got too much. Not too mention that when the truth behind the big mystery was a bit of a disappointment. But, overall, it was a good read, I enjoyed it and will continue on with the Heartbreaker chronicles!

Loved this. Even more than Heartbreakers.

So Alec is totally my favorite character in all of ever (well, maybe not, but he is the silent and broody type and I'm totally in love). I would happily read another novel about him and Felicity. This was adorable, and even if the next novel in this series has nothing to do with the two of them, I really hope it features them at some point. Kind of like how we did see some of Oliver and Stella in this one.

In short, definitely going to read more by Ali Novak. And I hope to find some Alec Williams fanfiction somewhere, because I need that in my life.

Not as good as the first one and there wasn't much of a connection between the main characters, but it was a fun story. I wish that they had opened up a bit more, I really tried to love them as a couple but they were a bit too shy for my taste. Nonetheless, I loved seeing the boys and Stella again, I really enjoy their group dynamic and it made me so happy to know more about them. I literally felt more excitement when I read about the other boys than I did when I read about the main characters (Sorry Alec). Felicity was a bit annoying at times, she mostly blinded herself to every situation and assumed the worst. But, I did love Asha, she was my favorite character and basically one of the few funny things in this book. I would definitely read the other books in this series if they ever come out (WE NEED A XANDER BOOK).

The only reason I decided to read this again was because it was available at my library and I just happened to walk by it. I thought “Oh, I read this a few years back on Wattpad, and now it’s published!” So, I borrowed it hoping it would give me nostalgia. Turns out, I didn’t remember a single detail.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but this was not as exciting as I thought it would be. The romance was barely there, but I still hung on. Most of this was just surrounding her sister’s “running away,” all of which, could’ve been avoided if anyone in this book like talked and listened to each other.

The main character wasn’t bad, but she wasn’t good, either. There was absolutely no development for any of the characters.

I think the only thing I really liked was the music playlists the author added at the end.

The Heartbreakers had been a very cute and quick read for me. Not only had I thought all of the characters were adorable with their own little quirks, but I wanted more about everyone. Sadly, Paper Hearts doesn't go much further into the Heartbreakers' world like I wanted this sequel to. Instead, we're mainly focusing on this new character and her soap-opera-esque life.

Now, usually I'm down with a lil' cliche or unrealism. My problem with the plot and drama in Paper Hearts is that most of these cliche plot devices could've easily been solved with proper communication. Having a chick meet a celebrity then take a road trip to find her long lost sister? That's fine! Having a chick make assumptions based off misinterpreted conversations and clues? That's not fine!

Nonetheless, Paper Hearts was still a cute read, especially for people who are into the silent/shy MCs. I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy this one as much as its predecessor. I do recommend reading the Heartbreakers though. :-)
