I honestly don’t know how I feel about this. I started Blood Lust first because I didn’t realize it had a prequel. But it also felt like something was missing. I’m not too comfortable with Gage and his love for Sierra—and his potential to be one of the harem in the first book with Celeste. Don’t know how I feel about it at all...

In the world of this book (and the series), there are witches, vampires, werewolves, and fae coexisting in an area known as Devil's Gate in Louisiana. This book is told in the POV of Sierra La Fleur who is the current Regent to Devil's Gate and is responsible for maintaining peace between all of the groups. Every 3 months, she has to make an offering to The Elder and during one of her offerings she finds out that she has to make a sacrifice as part of her next offering. But it is not a sacrifice that she is willing to make. The remainder of the prequel follows Sierra as she tries to find out why she is required to make that sacrifice and how she is going to handle the situation. The ending of this book is bittersweet, but it has to end this way in order to set the stage for the next book in the series. The Vessel does a thorough job of providing the back story for Blood Lust, book 1 of the series, and introduces the reader to several of the key characters in the series. Even though this book is not a full length book, it felt like it was. The author did a fantastic job of describing this world and providing the foundation for the rest of the series. This is one of the best prequels that I've read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I'm looking forward to learning even more about the characters that were introduced in the prequel and seeing how this story progresses.

The Vessel by Grace White is a Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance. It is a prequel to Blood Lust. I ended up reading the prequel second since I did not know about this book until I started doing research for a second book. I feel you could read them in either order but I love the set up the Prequel gives to the first book. I am absolutely in love with Grace Whites writing style and can not wait for more books in this series to be released. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Romance, Paranormal, or Reverse Harem books.

A really well written introductory novella of a place known as Devil's Gate, where witches, werewolves, vampires and fae live alongside humans in an uneasy truce.

Powerful beings known as The Old Ones preside over the town giving power and control via a mortal Regent. Sierra La Fleur is unfortunately young for her role having lost her mother and aunt, but she's learning to keep the factions in their place while being a full time witch and carer to her younger sister Celeste. She also has a terrible magnetism towards the vampire Gage which despite their supposed divisions has carried on in secret. But now The Old Ones are asking something of her, something she cannot give them. With the help of Gage, the wolves and the fae, she'll give everything to protect those she cares for...

Drama, tension, scene setting and character building; everything you need for a great starter is here. It does lack a little in visual descriptions of characters, and that frisson between Sierra and Gage seems logically odd (aaand maybe a tad creepy what with his handsy kabe-don tendencies. If anything, that relationship needed a prequel!)

It feels like it might stray into required reading territory rather than being an optional backstory read, so heads up for anyone who wants in on the full series. It does do a good job of pulling together all the details of the world inhabited by the paranormals, and would certainly make me want to give the main series a go.

Sierra Le Fleur is fulfilling the duty of her birthright. She is the Regent of Devil's Gate. She oversees a shaky truce between the witches, vampires, fae, werewolves, and humans. It's a blessing and a curse. But she is more than capable of rising to the challenge until the Old Ones of her own people demand of her something that she is not willing to give. Upon discovering the reality, Sierra sets a plan in motion to protect the one she loves most, her sister, Casting a spell and securing the promise of help from her vampire lover, the alpha's son, and a powerful fae, Sierra finds a way to defy the Old Ones, keep her sister safe, and maybe save the future for all of Devil's Gate.

The Vessel is a prequel to Blood Lust, coming later this year. It does everything a prequel should do; it provides crucial backstory and sets the stage for the main story, it creates interest in the main event. This story did so much more than that. I was enthralled. I was heartbroken. Sierra is an incredible lead female. I can't wait to see the woman Celeste grows into. Gage, Lucas, Laken, and even Terrin Devereux were all ideal examples of their neighborhoods and I wanted more of them. As much as I wanted more, as much as I tried to deny this story, it was perfect. I wouldn't change one thing even though I wanted everything to be different. I can't wait for more!

Short novella with a big heart....

Vampires, witches, a host of other magical beings... and a race to save a loved one.....this was a compelling introduction to what promises to be an epic paranormal series..

The author has skilfully crafted a fabulous alternative world with a fascinating group of magical and mystical beings,,,..Sierra is a witch and her responsibilities weigh heavy on her shoulders... I admired her courage and the selfless love she has for her younger sister, Celeste... she encounters several interesting men on her quest, but her main supporter is Gage, a vampire and Sierra’s sometimes love interest... I loved him for the loyalty and support he gives to Sierra, even when he is unhappy with her choices..

This is short novella with a big heart... whilst there are a cast of fascinating characters, above all else this is Sierra’s story and her quest to ensure love conquers all.....I received an advanced copy of this novella from the author.

The Vessel was a good prequel story to the Devil's Gate series. I got a sense of the world and met some of the characters.

The story was kinda heartbreaking and some super shady stuff was going down right from the start of this series which makes me think I will like the first book.

One thing that bothered me is one of the love interests in the main series is also in this book and is in another relationship. I like whi he is with and find it a bit weird who he ends up with. Other than that I enjoyed this short story and I will be reading the first book in the Devil's Gate series, Blood Lust, very soon.

Witches, vampires, wolves and fae, what a wonderful prequel to this new Devil's Gate series. Aided by vampire Gage (excited for more about him) Sierra is a selfless, strong, loving, likeable witch, who would do anything to protect the ones she loves, from those who destroy it all and the delicately balanced peace in Devil's Gate.
I really liked this intriguing introduction, can't wait to read book one to find out what happens when Sierra's sister Celeste discovers the whole truth.

This is a small taste of what we can expect from The Devils Gate series. This may be a short read but there is alot packed in.

Sierra is a high ranking witch who has to try somehow keep the peace between different factions. Gage may be a vampire but to her he's a friend a protector a confidante. When she has to make a sacrifice for The Vessel will he stand by her.

Well that didn't go the way I hoped

Clearly my ever optimistic heart was holding out hope...
I guess we shall see exactly where this is going.

I cried. I admit it with no shame whatsoever. A bond like theirs is hard to let go...

What a great start to a series. I am a little worried to see how the next book plays out. I am not going to give away more. You will see what I mean once you read Book 1 in the series, Blood Lust. I cant wait to read more from this wonderful world Grace White created.

I had already read the series Devil's Gate before reading The Vessel, and I am so glad Grace White included a prequel. It was eye opening to learn more about what happened before the events of Blood Lust and Celeste taking over. It is a wonderful addition to the series.

Gripping!!💥

This is a prequel to a new RH series but as a standalone short story it's intense & gripping!!!💥😎

Sierra is Regent who is head of all the Witches. She's acts as kind of a supernatural Sheriff to the area known as the Devils Gate!! Her power is granted by Les Anciens or 'The Old Ones' who she has to give offerings to every quarter. This quarter their request for the the Yule Sabbat is just too great - Sierra knows she can't give them what they've demanded!!😢😳

While she searches for the truth & how to circumvent their demand we meet Gage the Vampire who loves her, Terrin who loves her sister Celeste, Lucas the Faery & Laken the Wolf Shifter. They've all sworn to protect Celeste from Les Anciens. She will learn the truth on her 18th Birthday & inherit her Le Fleur powers. She is The Vessel & Sierra WILL do what ever she has to to protect her!!🙏💕

I can't wait for this series to start 😎🔥🙏
