Want More From Your Prayer Life? If you’re dissatisfied in your prayer life, wanting to be more consistent in prayer, or looking to deepen your intimacy with God, then this 8-week Bible study was written for you. It examines the prayers of eight biblical characters and teaches you how to pray like the prayer warriors who went before you. You’ll Follow in the footsteps of these spiritual giants and discover anew what our loving God does with a little faith and a whole lot of prayer. You’ll love studying these scriptural prayers, like the prayer of Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, "Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You." (2 Chron. 14:11)
I am completely pleased with this bible study. Keeth has us studying the prayers that are rarely studied. Lately almost every book or bible study on prayer has always been on Ephesians six but not on the other prayers that are equally as important. From Jesus to Paul, to Asa and Nehemiah Keeth breaks down these prayers so that we can pray them ourselves but also model our prayers after them; using them like templates for the prayers we pray for ourselves.
FYI: I received a copy of this study from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Another book on prayer? What does this book offer that other books had not? Two things. It shows us how to pray and it gives us space to pray. Many people pray the Lord's Prayer by heart. That is a good thing. Author Crickett Keeth gives us many more examples of prophets, priests, kings, and pilgrims whose prayers we could profit much from. Designed to be used for the season of Lent, each chapter can be treated as a daily workbook of prayer. Like a working devotional, readers and participants could look forward to four sections each day.
1. Looking to God's Word (meditation) 2. Looking Upward (discussion) 3. Looking Deeper (understanding) 4. Looking Reflectively (application)
Through daily devotional use and consistent application, we grow our praying muscles. The key to learning is not about technique. It is about patterning ourselves personally to people who had prayed well in the past. From Jesus, we learn the basics of the Lord's Prayer to move from ritual to relationship. We learn about worship, surrender, supplication, confession and forgiveness, etc. From Paul, we learn the spirituality of intercession. We see how he prays for others to grow spiritually. He wants the believers to grow to love God more. Many of us want to grow spiritually. Have we also prayed for others to do the same? Perhaps, this is the single biggest lesson to learn from Paul's praying stance. From Job, we learn about another dimension of prayer: In times of despair. We need lots of trust in the midst of fog. We learn to trust in times where there are lack of answers in the sea of questions. It is a time of waiting and humbling. From Hannah, we learn about prayer as longing which gives us another dimension of waiting and trusting. Does God know how we feel? What if God had missed us out? How long must we wait? From David, we learn about the psalms of lament, which reflect David's heartfelt need for comfort, for protection, for strength, for thanksgiving, praise, and complaint. From Asa, we learn the importance of starting and finishing well. From Jehoshaphat, we learn the prayer of dependence and from Nehemiah, to pray boldly when the odds are stacked against us.
There are many more Bible characters in the Bible that we can learn from. I suppose we could also learn from people like Peter, Timothy, Titus, John, Jude, and so on. Old Testament characters such as Abraham and Jacob, the prayer of Solomon, and so on could also teach us on other aspects of prayer. With the models provided in this book, readers would be able to do their own studies with characters not covered. Most importantly, if this book is able to prompt readers to pray more earnestly themselves to be on bended kness, this would pretty much pay for the price of the book.

Cricket does an excellent job of separating the study guide into prayer subjects. Each study part inspires us to go further into the Bible and our prayer life. This is great for groups to use to study or individuals who want a deeper prayer life. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this group.
Prayer. It's something most believers want to become better at. In her new book "On Bended Knee," author Crickett Keeth takes readers a participative journey to be better pray-ers. But more than that, she encourages readers to know God more deeply and intimately through prayer and the Word.
This isn't just an easy-reading, feel-better devotional book. It's a Bible study that guides readers to dig into God's Word, meditate on it, and apply it to everyday life. Those who stick it out and complete the study will reap the reward of a deeper prayer life and a closer walk with the Lord.
While Keeth does offer some commentary of her own and includes quotes from Bible teacher and leaders, she focuses on allowing the Word of God to speak for itself. Readers will study and learn from the Lord's prayer, Pauls prayer of intercession in Ephesians 3:14-21, Job's prayer of despair, Hannah's prayer of longing, David's prayer of lament, Asa's prayer of seeking God, Jehoshaphat's prayer of dependence, Nehemiah's prayer of boldness, and other prayers in the Bible.
Each section offers opportunities to dig into the Word, meditate on it, memorize it, apply it, journal it, and pray it. Keeth's Bible study, "On Bended Knee" is highly interactive and extremely practical. Readers who invest the time and energy in the study will absolutely find themselves "On Bended Knee" with more meaningful prayer lives.

My favorite books are the ones that feel like a conversation between good friends. No fluff, nothing hidden. Just full and authentic truth. It is a rare thing to find a Bible study that feels that way. Crickett takes the topic of prayer to the next level. She challenges the reader to not just go through the motions of prayer, but to really contemplate and seek understanding about it. In doing so, we walk away from each teaching with a more confidence and with a refreshed view of God’s nature.
There are many who struggle with various aspects of prayer: confidence, boldness, understanding, faith, etc. On Bended Knee will help you find what you are looking for. If you pray, go through this Bible study. If you don’t pray, go through this Bible study. I believe God will meet you in it.

Has your prayer life gotten into a predictable pattern? Do you desire to have boldness when coming before the throne of God with requests? Though the new study, On Bended Knee by Crickett Keeth, we are given examples of how Biblical characters sought guidance, direction, intercession and thanksgiving from God. Drawing insights from Hannah, Job, David, and Nehemiah, to name a few, you will gain a better understanding of how prayer is a powerful tool.

This study encourages me to dig into the Word for myself. I've been inspired enough to share some of insights on social media. It also encourages me to put better prayer practices in place to grownin my relationship with Jesus. Excellent study that I highly recommend!
Prayer is something I always know I need to work on. It's always a struggle for me, especially as a busy mom. So when given the opportunity for this study. I jumped on it. And I'm glad that I did. This bible study is giving me a new perspective on prayer. I like learning about prayer by studying how others prayed, especially the ultimate model,Jesus. The amount of daily work is right for my busy life. I only wish I had a group of ladies to meet weekly with because it would be a valuable group bible study.
I recieved a copy of the book from the publisher is return for an honest review. These are my honest opinions.
I've always enjoyed my prayer time but can feel myself slip into vending machine prayers sometimes. You know, God please do this or that or heal this person or help this situation. I'm on week 2 of this study and I can feel new life being breathed into my prayer time. I'm looking forward to reading through more of Crickett's ind-depth study of the prayers of the NT.
I received an advanced copy of this Bible study in exchange for an honest review.
I was on the launch team for this book, so I was able to work through the first chapter early, and I can say that Cricket has done a great job to help you practice, walk out, work out our prayer life. This study will help you give your prayer life legs- it's more than just talking about it- it's doing the very thing that changes us. So thankful for this study!
Interesting study on prayer looking at 8 different prayers in scripture. Crickett asks thoughtful questions that make you ponder and meditate on the Word. It's also a very pretty study. It was fun to be on the launch team!
A study on prayers that look to the heart of men and women in the bible. How did they approach God? What motivated them to pray? How did they pray? How did their relationship with God deepen as a result of the prayers? It is learning the how that we listen what humble prayer looks like. It becomes more of a God centered prayer rather than a prayer focused on my world but the reign of Christ.
Each chapter is a closer relationship with the Father. What a prayer of dependence looks like, seeking God, etc. and with each chapter comes a deeper look what the motivation behind the prayer and how it changes our relationship with God. Prayer builds trust and faith. It is more for our good as prayer is a form of worship. We have a deeper look of Old Testament prayers and New Testament prayers. It is these examples of prayers that will deepen your own prayer life that will make prayer time a time to look forward to. A time to see and know God. A time for our hearts to align with the heart of God. These prayers of the bible are there for a reason an example to live by.
Highly recommend.
A Special Thank you to Moody Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I am so grateful to be collecting and reading all of the books in the Moody Bible Studies for Women series, as each one has proven to be a valuable gem in my library. The newest in the series was written by Crickett Keeth, and is entitled “On Bended Knee: Praying Like Prophets, Warriors, and Kings - An 8-Week Bible Study”. This book is for you (and me) if you are “dissatisfied with your prayer life, wanting to be more consistent in prayer, or looking to deepen your intimacy with God”.
Taking 8 prayers from the Bible and diving deep into an examination of the people, context, and reasons behind each one, Crickett helps us uncover new ways to pray and simultaneously deepen our relationship with God. The prayers we study include: - Jesus: A Model Prayer(Matthew 6) - Paul: A Prayer of Intercession (Ephesians 3) - Job: A Prayer of Despair (various verses from Job) - Hannah: A Prayer of Longing (1 Samuel 1) - David: A Prayer of Lament (Psalm 25) - Asa: A Prayer of Seeking God (2 Chronicles 14-16) - Jehoshaphat: A Prayer of Dependence (2 Chronicles 17, 20) - Nehemiah: A Prayer of Boldness (Nehemiah 1-2)
The book is divided into 8 weeks, each with 5 days of study. Every day has a specific set of verses to read, followed by several sections of questions, cross-reference verses to look up, and suggestions for reflection. I found that some of the questions could not necessarily be answered without looking it up in another resource such as a study Bible, and also there was not a lot of discussion from the author. She primarily teaches through question and answer format. Of course this is totally fine, just a little unexpected as some of the other books in the series are based more on the author’s teachings. This one is more interpretive by each reader, as they answer questions in their own way.
One trick I found helpful for some of the deeper questions was even though I am completing this study on my own, I would read through the leader’s guide for that section (located at the back of the book). This helped me work through a few topics that I found difficult to grasp; sometimes I had already reached the same conclusion, sometimes it encouraged me to look at things a little differently, and sometimes I disagreed and preferred my own answer! In any case, I found it helpful.
If you enjoy Moody Bible Studies for Women, or if you’ve never tried them and are simply looking to dive deeper into the prayers of some of the spiritual giants of the Bible, I recommend giving “On Bended Knee” a try. It is definitely a resource that I learned from and will refer to again over time.

On bended Knee
This is an 8 weeks bible study, it could be done individually and on a group. Crickett Keeth did a wonderful job organizing and you can see that she is a woman of prayer. Each week we study a different character all this center in prayer. All this divide on four parts.
1-Looking to God’s word, in this part we study and specific scripture according to the weekly theme. 2-Looking Upward, it takes us to reflect on our own personal life. 3-Looking Deeper, usually with some other verse as reference related to the one we previous study at the beginning of the lesson. 4-Looking reflectively is where you need to open up to God and let Him know about your heart.
What I like about this bible study is that each lesson takes you to step by step in a way that you can learn and also open yourself to God. With powerful and life-changing truth I believe this book represents an opportunity of growth on our relationship with God and even other people. I must say that my prayer life has changed after doing this bible study, and also at the end of the book, we find a guide for the leader in case of those that will be in a group.
Truly grateful to Moody Publisher for the ARC of this book, it was an unexpected blessing in my life.
I’ve just finished leading over fifty women in Crickett Keeth’s Bible study—On Bended Knee: Praying Like Prophets, Warriors, and Kings. Several ladies said this was the best study we’ve done to date, and I’ve led studies for over sixteen years. Keeth has combined her passion for prayer and her compassion for women to create a study that not only helps us see ourselves in a new light but opens our eyes to a loving Savior who welcomes and receives us just as we are.
Don’t let this short eight-week study on prayer slip by you. It packs a powerful punch. Keeth’s transparent and down-to-earth teaching style not only invites participants to enter the throne room of God, but it emboldens them to approach Him with honesty and humility.
By examining the varied lives of eight biblical characters, the reader is reminded that God is no respecter of persons. His presence and grace is available to everyone who seeks his face. Each daily lesson is brief, yet deep—packed with biblical truths, inspirational quotes, and personal application questions that encourage times of reflective meditation and prayer.
Although my class hated to turn the final page of this wonderful study, its impact remains with us as we continue to pursue deeper relationships with God.
We hope another study by this gifted author is in the works.
This book is an 8-week Bible study for individuals or groups (as there's a leader's guide in the back). Each week had 5 days of study. The author started with a one paragraph summary of the point of that day's lesson and a prayer. She then had you read a section of verses and answer questions. Most of the questions were reading comprehension: what four things did he do? what does it say in verse 4? There were also one or two personal application questions, plus she had you read other, related verses (often in Psalms) and answer questions about those verses. She then briefly summarized that day's reading and the lesson she got out of it. Each day ended with a Christian quote relating to that day's reading.
The first two weeks closely looked at prayers (Jesus and Paul)--what was said that you might also want to pray. After that, though, most of the study was focused on a person's life--what was his attitude toward God? Did it change?--and the bad situations they faced that inspired their prayer to God. I liked the first two weeks, but I felt like the rest of the study lost it's focus on actual prayer, so her lessons kept making the same basic point--come to God humbly and expecting great things.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.
You can never get too much training in the art of prayer. There are always things to learn. Crickett Keeth examines eight biblical characters and shows us to how to pray like them in "On Bended Knee".
Here eight-week Bible Study teaches Jesus' model prayer, Paul's intercessory prayer, Job's desperation prayer, Hannah's longing prayer, David's lament, Asa's seeking prayer, Jehoshaphat's prayer of repentance and Nehemiah's prayer of boldness. I appreciate that she took some less known prayers and mixed them with the more well-known prayers we have read. These spiritual giants teach us what God can do through us with a little faith.
I love that Keeth doesn't use a lot of her own words but allows us to work through her insightful questions to gain knowledge for ourselves. As always, Moody Publishers has produced a quality Bible study that helps us grow in our spiritual walk.

I have mixed feelings about this study. On the positive side; there was a lot of Scripture referenced and I liked the overall setup of the days; digging into the Scripture and then a place for application and writing out prayers. I appreciated the authors introductory prayers for each day and her final thoughts. I also
On the other hand, a huge pet peeve of mine is when an author asks "what do you think this means" regarding a Scripture. It doesn't matter what you or I think it means..it matters what God was communicating through that passage in that context. I find this type of question to be a lazy technique; rather than digging into the original context and meaning. There were also some quotes shared by people who I personally have a problem with their teachings; due to unscriptural things they have said/written. So, it always puts me on guard when I see an author use them as a reference. I did not see anything blatantly unscriptural in this study, so that was good but I was a bit on guard throughout.
Overall the study and thoughts on prayer were good and I'm glad that I went through this study as part of our women's group at church. However, I don't know if I would do another study by this author.
This is a book about prayer but it is more than a book. It is a Bible study and guides you through various prayers through the Bible with the goal of teaching you to learn to pray. The study gives you assignments for each day.
I read the book with my notebook beside me so I could make notes and answer the questions. I also did this by myself. I think it would be a great book to read with a friend and discuss what you are learning.
Reflecting on the book - the one chapter that really was what I needed at the time was Prayer of Lament. God has slowly been working teaching me what it means to lament. The only thing was I could not find the source for the elements of lament. I wasn't sure if that came from the author or another person.
Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it as an interactive book on prayer. One that gets you into the Bible.
Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book to read and review. The opinions and the review is all my own.
Very nice and helpful Bible study. It's been inspiring to look at the prayers of all those different people in the Bible and it gave me new insights in how I can deepen my own prayer life.
I also loved the structure of the different kinds of questions (looking to God's Word/looking deeper/etc.), they really helped me to not just look at the text in one way but from different angles.
Some questions were a bit questionable to my taste though, like what someone's motivation was when it wasn't stated in the Bible, those questions could've been asked a bit differently maybe (e.g. what do you think might've been the motivation), but that of course also is a switch we can make ourselves while working through these questions ;)
I received this study a long time ago in partnership with Moody’s Book to Table initiative. By the time I got around to finishing the study, I found myself in a really weird place mentally and spiritually (maybe because of this whole quarantine situation). This study helped give me space for reflection and honest prayer. Although it’s not my favorite study I’ve ever done, it was insightful. It just didn’t feel as personal and meaningful as others I’ve done in the past.
Enjoyed this Bible study on different prayers. Each week is a new prayer focus from a different story in the Bible, some more familiar than others. I'm not a huge fan of topical Bible studies, but this one is well done if you're searching to understand prayer more. Very Bible focused, not too many self reflection questions or personal commentary from the author.
I found this bible study to be okay. I think it would be better suited to do as a group rather than individually. In the beginning, I was drawn in, but as the study progressed I found myself losing speed and interest. Overall. 3.0 stars
This book was such a blessing in my life. My family had recently moved and we had not yet developed our community, and this book allowed me to feel spiritually mentored during that period. It is a must read for anyone wanting to learn, understand, or just spend more time in prayer.
