1972. New Orleans. The remaining six Deschanel siblings live with their long-suffering mother outside New Orleans, in the historic family plantation. Each of them unique. Each of them born with a gift. In some cases, a gift they wish they could give back.

Two years have passed since the tragic loss of one of the seven. Life goes on, but no one is the same. Charles, the playboy, spirals further into the comfort of depravity. Augustus, the fixer, buries his heartache in business. Colleen, the adherent, falls deeper into her own escape, her education. Evangeline, the genius, discovers a life outside her studies, but at a dark cost. And Maureen, the haunted, takes back her power, only to find her autonomy is a false promise, like so many other things in the lives of a Deschanel.

And Elizabeth, the anguished, knows what the others do not. She carries the burden of this knowledge, as she carries all the family's bleakest moments.

If they thought 1970 was the last of their heartache, they were dead wrong.

In this second book of the series, each of the Deschanel siblings is struggling to find their own path through life - whether good or bad, but some of these chosen paths are fraught with heartache and tragedy.  It's easy to see how these experiences shape the characters into what they become in The Crimson and Clover series.  Redemption, forgiveness, acceptance, strong sibling bonds - all these themes are present, and occasionally accompanied by hard lessons.

The 1970s setting is enjoyable - the language, clothing styles (hideous as they were), etc., but a couple of times the dialogue phrasing is more recent, and I may be wrong, but it seems like there's an implication of technology that wasn't available during that time.

This family is still hurting after losing one of their own, and there are several painful moments that broke my heart.  I'm anxious to see what happens next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book that I received from the author.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another compelling story following the Deschanel family, this one is sad, but not quite as heartbreaking as the last one. That said, I would be remiss not to mention there are some horrific experiences the siblings have to endure, which I guess makes them stronger, but I can’t help but think it also makes them damaged. It’s amazing how resistant to love all of them are, perhaps none feeling worthy of receiving it. It certainly made me feel sad for them. And that may be the most remarkable thing about this book and these characters. They are so meticulously crafted and depicted that I feel certain they are real as I read about them. I am invested in their well-being, rooting for them despite bad choices, and dreading the things which are to come.

I fear that any efforts I make to extol this book would pale in comparison to actually reading this book. As I write this, I feel certain I must have said this in a previous review, but even if I have, that doesn’t diminish the truth of my statement. Sarah Cradit is an exceptional writer, able to create characters and stories that read as if they are truly happening to real people. I have not encountered a disappointing read from her, and I don’t suspect I ever will. Any time I see her name on a book, I know it is guaranteed to be well-written, engaging, and very likely, will make me cry. The final line of this book, which I will not repeat here because I don’t want to accused of adding any spoilers to my review, perfectly sums up the book and all I expect to happen in subsequent books. Read this series! You won’t be sorry.

Man the ending sentence sent a chill thru me when Elizabeth says, "Tell me again in a few yearsif you still believe He loves any of us."This sums up the entire lives of this family. We wanted to know more about them and their beginnings after reading the House of Crimson Tide series and this author is giving it to us in spades. Finding out the things that scarred them, but made them stronger. Reading of their pain and yes suffering even 2 years after Mad's death they are finding unhealthy ways of dealing with it. The young Deschanels are under as much pressure as young adults/teens as they are in later life but now we see how young they were when it all started. Charles and the drugs and women, when he finally sets his eyes on some one and how he takes on the job of avenger and protector. Colleen and the trials of relationships and her siblings. There's so much here to digest as each deals with their issues in secret only to have it explode. There is a lot going on but it is easy to follow as we get to know the family even better. I loved House of Crimson Tide series and loving the view of this family prior to the series. It's like getting the down and dirty, the pain and sorrow, the emotions and an insight into what made them into who they become. It isn't pretty, but then very little of their story is.

It's 1972 and the remaining 6 Deschanel siblings are living with their mother just outside of New Orleans. They are each unique with their gifts even if some wish desperately if they could give them back. They are all tortured in their own way after the tragic loss of one of their own a couple of years ago. Charles spirals into more depravity, Augustus fixes what he can while losing himself in the world of business, Colleen focuses on her education, Evangeline pays a dark cost for the discovery of a life outside of studying and lastly there is Elizabeth with the burden of knowledge of what is coming. Seems things are not about to get better anytime soon!

There were lots of interwoven strands in this story that managed to connect and then separate as the story progressed. Some very sad moments and times when I definitely felt their pain and internal torture. Definitely tempted me to want to know what happens in the next book now so I get to know how it all develops next. For anyone who has read the Hours of Crimson and Clover series this is definitely answering a few questions or giving valuable background. Well written and clear and easy to understand this was a very enjoyable book.

1972 brings each of the Deschanel children new problems. Peering into their lives as youngsters I see how they were shaped into the people they are in the future. The more I learn about each of them the more I understand.
It's been two years since they lost one of their own and they're all suffering, each in their own way. Each struggle with their unique gifts, some struggle more than others. Charles is still Charles, wallowing in his depravity. Agustus spends all his time in the business world. Colleen buries herself in her studies, Evangeline pays a heavy price for trying to find a life outside the family and school. Elizabeth suffers with knowledge of the future that no one should have, especially a young girl.
I love these books, going back into the past of one of my favorite series is awesome. I love the way each of the separate storylines intertwine and join up. I've come to love each of these characters, they're so realistic that I hurt when they hurt and in several places I almost cried.
I received an advance copy of the book from the author but this review and my opinions of this novel are entirely mine.

The story of Irish Colleen and her six remaining children continues in Sarah Cradit’s 1972: The Seven. Two years after the loss of Madeline, the siblings struggle with her absence in their own unhealthy ways. The story is at times painful and sorrowful, but the Deschanel sibling bond only grows as they struggle through their fated existence.

In this second book, there was a little less focus on the history of the 1970s, and there was even more dedication to the Deschanel backstory. Through this character driven story, fans of the House of Crimson and Clover saga get a deep understanding of what drives the “current day” Deschanels and Sullivans. It is not necessary to have read the House of Crimson and Clover series, and I would say The Seven series is a great place to start reading Ms. Cradit’s epic saga.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. For more reading recommendations, visit Book Junkie Reviews at www.abookjunkiereviews.wordpress.com

Another one where I get to step into a blast from the past so to speak. Having read the first one in this I did not want to miss this one. New Orleans too one of my favorite settings for one. We get to go deeper into this family and what is exposed along with what goes on. It will also get alittle dark also but one that will keep us fixed on them. Each sibling has a trial but each has their own way rather we would do the same or not keeps us a step further-transfixed on them. It pulls many emotions from us that twist us up. Being this author knows how to wrap us up with them we will kinda disappear into them as we read. This will also leave you ready for the next one.

Intensity, love, heartbreak, and of course family and magic

This was great. More details came as to each person's abilities and personalities. My heart breaks for the kids they all love, and hurt and hide so much of their love, and hurts from each other as well as their ourselves. While this is a series and most definitely should be read starting with 1970 there's enough detail that you could catch on and start now with this one. But I highly recommend reading them all and in order. I'm excited to read the next one.

Book 2 in The Seven series

Witches and Warlocks make up an entire family that's in a constant state of crisis/survival mode. This dark fantasy is filled with conflict, growing pains, loss, sorrow, abuse, alcoholism, strong language, and spice. Be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading. The book is built in a detailed world with strong characters who grow/change throughout.

Searching for peace. This book is filled with acceptance, forgiveness, and vengeance.

1972 continues the story of the Deschanel family and the deep loss this family is dealing with after losing one of its own. It is amazing to go back in time and learn the history of the characters from the Crimson and Clover series. I love how the author immerses us in the time period and the great city of New Orleans. These characters and stories are so well developed that they are “can’t put down” type reading. Anxiously awaiting the next installment!!!!

As book 2 in a series this in not in any way a stand alone story, if you haven’t read the first in the series this book would not make sense. It’s a very fast read, and as a result I didn’t feel it did much to advance the characters very much, though it did advance the over all story line. I’m still intrigued though, so I will read the third book.
Trigger warnings - this book contains a scene with a gang rape. The scene is not detailed. This book also deals with attempted suicide.

Wow this book is so good!

This book is the best. You get so pulled in and such excellent writing. I can hardly wait for 1973. This has answered so many questions of why for me that when I get though with them I will re read all of the original Crimson and Clover books. I recommend this book to everyone who likes a little supernatural spice in their books.

1972 is a beautiful addition to the Deschanel storyline. I love these characters like they were my own family. My heart breaks with them, for them. I can't wait for the next one.

This one was much better than the first; if not almost sadder. The writing definitely flowed a lot better. I need this family to catch a dang break though.
