Makani’s life has been been one of powerful gales and brilliant lights. Growing alongside Grian, her faithful friend and eventual beloved, she was raised under the teachings of the legendary Sanité La Caye. Her wise and powerful teacher, gigantic in body and spirit, ensured their growth with a healthy diet of tough love and foreign adages, and their life was a tranquil climb together. Yet all winds die down, and all lights must fade. So too does Makani find herself dead long before her time. However her one and only regret is leaving behind Grian. Without her to lead him, Grian can’t help but feel lost, and not even Sanité can help him find himself. Unable to stand the grief, Grian anchors her soul back to the world. While she is unable to experience it as she once could, Makani is still able to share her love with Grian. As Makani reflects on the life she had lived, she can’t help but compare it to her current unlife. It’s not quite the same, but at least she has Grian, who’s as kind and loyal as ever. But Makani can’t help but feel troubled by these small yet meaningful differences, nor can she shake this feeling that she and Grian have lost something. With her life laid out before her, Makani and Grian must work to reconcile their forlorn hearts, and rediscover what they’ve lost in one another.
