I’ve read most of Meinke’s work having studied his poetry in college. It was neat to read that after so many years in form and free verse that he just decided to start writing rondeaux. Of course he did them so well. Here’s what a rondeau is according to the Wikipedia – a rondeau is a form of medieval and Renaissance French poetry, as well as the corresponding musical chanson form. Together with the ballade and the virelai it was considered one of the three formes fixes, and one of the verse forms in France most commonly set to music between the late 13th and the 15th centuries.
