Life was busy and organized, just the way Lakeview music history professor Piper Sinclair liked it. Some recent family research even meant a new book to write. Until she witnessed an attempted kidnapping--and became a target herself. Someone wanted her out of the way permanently. Someone who seemed to know her all too well...
His expertise as a former crime scene photographer left Cade Macalister with memories he couldn't shake. Encountering Piper at the crime scene brought a different set to mind--his friend's little sister had certainly grown up well, and she couldn't take on this mysterious assailant alone.
Of course, convincing Piper of that would be the only way to solve this dangerous riddle...and keep her alive.
Another Sinclair novel! only because she's the sister she doesn't get to be in the Sinclair brother's series, which is a shame.
Piper Sinclair is a music history teacher at a college, who teaches piano in her spare time and volunteers at Music Matters, an organization that gives opportunities to financially disadvantaged kids to learn an instrument/have a passion for music. She plays the piano at her local church and generally spends more time running around trying to do things for others rather than herself.
So when she gets tricked into going to a 'hippie' weight loss seminar with her friend, she's not pleased but she sticks it out. Things get interesting when an armed gun man enters the class and takes someone who looks very much like Piper as a hostage. Piper manages to disarm the man, but he gets away. Setting into motion a series of events Piper cannot quite get her head around.
Cade Macalister did his stint in the military and now works as a photographer for a newspaper, and freelance. As a side job he signs on to be a reserve for Lakeview's police. Part time work, mostly in summer. A pretty good gig. But when he is called in to an armed gunman and a fire, he meets Piper. No longer the little girl he remembers from his childhood. Now she's a little spitfire who seems to be targeted for reasons no one can understand.
All in all this was a pretty good book. The God talk is a bit more erratic in this one, but the main trend I have been noticing is alive and well. The girl owns a GTO. A lot of women in Shirlee McCoy's books seem to own an old GTO or an older mustang...just an observation.
In this book it is once again a bit of a rush to the proposal (under a year), but it didn't bother me as much seeing how they used to know each other as children through to when Cade was in high school, so they have a decent foundation. You know, instead of the whirlwind romance with someone you only just met but somehow know you were meant to be with forever in the matter of 2 weeks...those annoy me.
In Conclusion
All in all this was a good book that mentions a few other characters you meet later in the series (I'm apparently reading it in full reverse). The God talk was a bit more sporadic with only a few of them seeming to be a bit awkwardly placed.
The author's attempt at misdirection was admirable, as always.
Another wonderful story filled with suspense and romance … and with a loyal, goofy Great Dane whose personality I can attest to because of my own lovable Great Dane. Thank you, Ms. McCoy, for another very entertaining afternoon and for the reminder, through your characters, that God is always here guiding my steps, like theirs, toward that hope and future He promises.
Another delightful suspense with action and intrigue by Ms McCoy. Her books never disappoint and I have re-read several. Really like those she writes for Love Inspired as you don't have to skip all the extra scenes. This is a good story with strong characters.
I could not put this one down! I've slowed down some in my reading over the past few years, but I "gobbled" this one up. The action and the love story flow together nicely. I love the characters.
Every time I read one of Shirlee McCoy's books, (and I do have a great collection of her books) I think they can not get any better.....BUT....then I read the next one and I wonder to myself, how in the world can she do this!! Each book is better than the last!! I thoroughly enjoyed "When Silence Falls" as it was filled with nail biting, heart beating suspense from beginning to end! And NO, I did NOT guess the bad man in this book either!! I have yet to be right!! I truly enjoy all Shirlee's books with the Sinclair family and this one with Piper was outstanding! Piper is such an adorable and feisty little character! You will love her. I definitely recommend this book to all that love a good suspense book and is written by a wonderful Christian author that writes for the Glory of God and is willing to share her talents with us! God Bless you Shirlee!
