After speaking up for Dexter and then yanked from the only place she's ever felt at home, Starlee is lost.
Lost without George to make her laugh. Lost without Jake's strong arms. Lost without Charlie's calming presence. Lost without Dexter's intensity and determination.
No one is okay with this situation. No one is willing to give up.
I don't know how I got involved with reverse harem but my very first series was by C.L. Stone. My husband came across this author and the covers looked clean but never knew what I got myself into. Let's just say that I got hooked and needed more! I have read 100's of books and blogging for authors for years!
I fell across this author and series. I was hooked once again! I fell in love with Starlee and her Wayward boys, Dexter, Jake, George, and Charlie! I couldn't get enough and loved how it concluded with years later to give us an awesome conclusion to the series! Book five will be Dexter's sister, Sierra's book, and fixing to dive into that one next!
I loved Sierra and her Supernatural series addiction with several references and names dropped in this series as well!
This was a decent contiunuation to the first installment, YA reverse Harem, which is a novelty to me, not the RH part, more like the mix between the two, because in the beginning it felt a little weird.
There were somethings i didn't particularly agree with like the definition of toxic people, it's not people who smoke weed and fail school honestly, that's just plain nonchalance and not caring, it's not toxic, although it can be toxic if combined with other traits like being manipulative and mean, etc. The writing was medicore, i won't say juvenile because it wasn't 100% juvenile, but it was okay, this being a YA.
In this book, Starlee ends up running away again after being brought up to live with her mother once more, because she feels as though she is suffocating with her mother. She goes back to her Grandma's house, back to be with the boys. She gets to experience things she hadn't done before as she was homeschooled, she gets to go to school, be in social clubs, make friends, go to homecoming, go to a party, experience a lot of different things with the boys, with her grandma, etc. Her mother, conveniently takes yoga classes and sees a therapist finally, she comes into terms with her daughter not being with her and she takes sometime to herself to travel and feel like herself again.
On another note, the twins are taken from Sierra because of this incident that happened because of a bully in school who wanted Jake to go with her to Homecoming but he ended up paired with Starlee, pretty silly but it's YA, so it's fine.

In Starlee's Turn, Starlee lives with her mother again. The two get into an argument that causes Starlee to travel back to Lee Vines on her 18th birthday without her mother's consent. Here a new life begins for her. New girlfriend, intrigues and so on don't let it get boring. The book is entertaining and has a good length.

Starlee takes a big risk by running away from home. I think it was a good move for her, though. The guys certainly appreciated it. Starlee grows closer to each of the guys and we actually get to know Charlie better in this book. Too bad a jealous somebody comes along to mess things up. How will they get past it?
After Starlee’s mother takes her back home, despite Starlee’s wishes, she returns to a restrictive, dull and lonely life. She tries to explain that she needs to be allowed to spread her wings a little but there is no shifting her mother. Then the crisis point hits on her 18th birthday and she runs back to Lee Vines, her grandmother and the boys next door.
Given a chance to start again in Lee Vines, her grandmother insists that Starlee enrol in the High School and actually experience life. What started as a holiday romance has been given a chance to thrive. What they don’t expect is the interference from outside that threatens everyone’s happiness.
This book contains a lot more teenage drama than the first book, because they are in their senior year at high school. Adding in an extra bunch of teenagers to the plot creates all sorts of tension.
One of my favourite characters is Sierra who is strong character who is put into a hard position when she took over the care of her brother when their parents died, and then to take in another three boys as a foster parent is extraordinary for a women in her mid-20s. She tries so hard to do the right thing but it seems sometimes she’s fighting a losing battle.
Everyone is these books are trying to do their best in difficult circumstances and it makes the characters seem more real when they are frustrated and angry, but try to keep control because they know it will do no good to lash out.
It's a good series, and I’m interested in what comes next.
Starlee's Turn, book 2 of the Wayward Sons series is a great continuation of Starlee's story.
Taken from Lee Vines and the four boys she has come to love, Starlee is back in North Carolina with her mother and slowly suffocating everyday. She is no longer content with her life, but instead wants to finish her last year of high school in a real school and return to her guys and grandmother who she misses more and more each day. When she turns 18 and her mom tries to rope her in to a 6 month trip in Europe Starlee finally reaches her breaking point. She takes her ticket and exchanges it at the airport to make her way home to Lee Vines and her Wayward Sons.
Starlee shows a lot of growth in this book. She enrolls in high school and a lot of old anxieties start coming up, but she doesn't let anything hold her back. She wants one fun filled normal high school year and she's gonna get it. There is some typical high school drama, especially since new girl Starlee is super close with the four most unattainable guys in school, but I really liked that the author didn't take it too far. I feel like a lot of these books that have a mean girl get sort of ridiculous or unbelievable with the drama and what not, but in this book none of it takes away from the main plot and character development, though it does have some important ramifications on these characters.
While Starlee and the guys grow a lot closer in this book, things take a darker turn towards the end. With someone from the guys' past come back into their lives, everything changes drastically and Starlee is forced to take a step back out of their lives. But, her guys won't let go without a fight.
Starlee's Turn was a great addition to the Wayward Sons series. Starlee and the guys get so much closer in this book and, although it is a slow burn with very minimal steam, we really get to see these characters connect emotionally which can sometimes be neglected in reverse harem books with so many love interests. That's what really makes this story enjoyable for me and I hope it continues in the next book, Starlee's Home.
Starlee's mom yanked her back to North Carolina once she discovered that Starlee wasn't living the quiet, secluded life she expected her to while staying with her Grandmother. She brought her back where she could have total control once more. But Starlee has changed. She's stronger now and she now knows what she's missing hidden away from the 'dangers' of the real world. And more than anything she's missing the boys. Dexter, Jake, Charlie, and George. She misses their time together, she misses each one individually and as a group. She misses her grandmother, Sierra, the mountains, the only place she's ever felt at home. So when the time comes, she knows what to do. She goes home.
This book is even better than the first. Starlee's journey is just beginning. It's fun, scary, full of precious moments, and major bumps in the road. But now she's part of the world, not just reading about it or watching from a distance. I love how the ordinary is anything but when you've never experienced anything. High school, mean girls, a new friend, football games, homecoming. Starlee is so brave and has no idea. This book is chock full of emotions; anger, resentment, fear, hope, excitement, love, loss, pain. It will leave you reeling at times and the ending will hurt. Be warned. But this group is a chosen family. Family will win out over fear in the end.
Sometimes people can't except change so they make other people feel like crap, intentionally or not
I enjoyed the second book. Still to YA for me. But I love the fact that her mom got help and seems so much happier. And Maybe if they would of all sat down and talked it could of happened sooner. More challenges with them again but we can all hope that even tho there is a vindictive person pulling bad strings. All will work out. I mostly feel bad for Sierra. She has had to do so so much. She is such a great person. And deserves happiness. You took in these boys and made them something. Tried her hardest and risked everything. She took in her younger brother after their parents death and I bet not even being able to grieve properly. I just have to bring up one thing I didn't on the 1st book. In the beginning she described all the Starlee generations having dark hair. But then she said her mom had blonde hair but Starlee has red hair. I'm confused by that. But not enough to throw anything off or ruin the series. I actually can't wait to read the next one.
As I said in the first book's review, this is a SLOW burn. I mean book two is finished and I'm still kind of like, wait has anything happened yet? Obviously by the end of book two (without spoiling anything) post HOCO things are getting 'interesting' but still - I mean I know they are all seventeen / eighteen year old kids so maybe this is on me but I just feel like it's all a bit childish and boring.
I'm hopeful that the story takes a turn especially with graduation looming which I hope like speeds up time line wise - but I truly don't know if I'm sure that will happen.
If I was a human who could start a book, not enjoy it and put it back down to start something else - I'll admit I probably wouldn't have even finished book one. But I'm trying to give this story the respect I'm hoping it deserves -
Starlee’s Turn is the second book in The Wayward Sons series by Angel Lawson.
This was essentially an ode to vindictiveness and pettiness. All in the machinations of one head cheerleader named Christina. This book adding validity by accentuating her abominable behavior really tanked my view of this series.
That along with the fact there isn’t really any growth in their relationship as a whole. And lest we forget the total lack of substance. It honestly felt like annoying fluff. Filler reading to prolong their inevitable HEA and add extra angst and doom to their current predicament.
The twins being moved. Forced. It was all so very stiff and unenjoyable. I’m hoping the next book draws me back in because I truly adore our main characters and how complimentary they are together.
I have really enjoyed this series so far. This is the second book and is a slow burn, so if you want wham bam thank you maam, then you are not going to get that here. I like the slow burns because sometimes I want the relationship to develop before all the sexy time. So, far the story line is predictable but that could just be me since I read A LOT! The main female character is a little weaker than my normal preference, but so far hasn't turned me off. The main conflict is around the fact that all the boys are part of foster care and have to deal with those regulations and how it is affecting everything. I am looking forward to the 3rd book and to see what happens next.
This installment didn't repeatedly break my heart, but the couple times it did, I literally had to put the story down for a few minutes. Of course, I picked it right back up 'cos I needed to see how Starlee's story continued.
Does anyone else wanna throat punch Christina? It's not just me, huh?
Grammar & syntax are much better in this one, though there were past/present tense flips occasionally that made me have to reread a few lines. Nothing egregious. Narrative voice was once again extremely strong; certainly one of the highlights of reading an Angel Lawson novel!
Anytime I pick up Angel Lawson's book it's a front to back read as quickly as I can. The writing is wonderful, character development impeccable and the hardest part of all in the reverse harem genre, it's believable. I get emotionally invested in the characters to the point where they feel like real people to me. Can't wait for her next written adventure.
Wow. Things happen really fast for Starlee. And mean girls are the worst. Lots of drama caused that needs to be resolved. Also shows the flaws that people take advantage of in the system that aren’t in the benefit of the kids involved. Sometimes, even when you do your best, bad things happen. Some character development and setbacks. Looking forward to, hopefully, some resolutions in the next book
I absolutely love this book! It is full of all of the emotions like anger, resentment, loss, love, jealousy, fear, and more. This book pulled me in from the first word and wouldn't let go. I downloaded this a few hours ago and am already done and begging for more. I can't wait until the next book releases!
The Wayward Sons: Starlee's Turn, is book two of the Wayward Sons series. Very interesting turn in the series, and the surprises don't stop through the whole book. I love these characters and the emotional bond between them. The storyline and subplots keep the action moving, and the reader engaged. Can't wait for book three, as this book ended with a new plot twist.
This was a good read. I enjoyed reading more about Starlee and her guys. She finds more of herself in this book. Interesting read and look forward to reading the next book in the series. I don’t want to give to much of what’s the book is about so I’m keeping it vague on purpose. The summery captures the gist of what this book is about.
This beautiful contemporary reverse harem continues, split away from the boys by her mother, how will starlee and the boys cope? Full of drama and young adulthood The is Will written and gripping from beginning to end and I absolutely loved it, getting deeper insights into all the characters, awesome!
I enjoyed continuing Starlees journey with her guys in this book! It was sweet and filled with good growth of the characters. The boys are trouble, and she’s their antidote! The way they care for her, and she cares for each of them gives me the warm and fuzzies! I’m off to fine out what happens next :)
I love how this series goes into the mind of someone who suffers from anxiety and depression. It shows that sometimes we can want the best for our love ones, but our actions can actually make it worse. I knew something was up with the cheerleader queen. I know she is involved in this somehow, but just haven't figured out how yet.
I need more of this series; I love the characters and their interactions. No-one of them is perfect, all of them a little broken but all admirable. Bring on the next books - please!
Soon as I seen this baby in my libary i started reading. Starlee finally starts finding her self with out the influence of her mother. Until someone turns the table on Starlee and her guys. Im ready for the next book
I love everything about this series and I can't wait for the next book. Starlee and her boys are great. Love Dexter and his baking. Jake, George & Charlie are unique in their own way.
Love this author. Love her books. Love her characters. So easy to get involved. You catch yourself smiling or getting wound up, crying or laughing. In fact the whole gamut of emotions
When you don't feel at home, so you travel back to the one place that feels like home. Everything is going great until it isn't anymore. I adore Starlee and her guys. Excited for the next book
Book 2 picks up a little while after book 1. Starlee is home with her mom but plotting her way back to her guys. Definitely a page turner. I can't wait for book 3.
This series is so well written ! Th charters are amazing and the storyline is action packed ! This series has one of the most natural RH relationships that I have read about. If you like the Contemporary RH genre you might like this series ❤️
