The night Arsen killed my father was the first time I realized the lengths he’d go to keep me safe. He might have done it to protect me, but he was still convicted and locked away for seven years. And for that entire time, I waited for him, knowing that once he was released, things needed to be said, the truth needed to be spoken. And that day was today. I loved him, but the look he gave me, the possessiveness and pent-up arousal reflected in his eyes … had me realizing one thing. Now more than ever, he wouldn’t let me go.
Arsen
I went to prison for Harper, and I’d do it all over again to make sure she was safe. She was all I thought about the entire time I was behind bars, and it was her weekly visits that got me through the years, even if I tried pushing her away. But after seven years of being locked up, I was finally released … and I was going to make her mine.
Warning: This is a short, dirty story about a hero who will go to any lengths to make sure the woman he loves is safe. With darker undertones and graphic scenes, there may be material some readers find offensive.
Reader note: All of the books in the “Cards of Love” series are standalone. They are not connected in any way. The only thing they all have in common is a tarot card theme. That means you can read and enjoy any of them in any order! :)
This book was a page turner and I enjoyed every second of it. Sizzling hot, passionate, and full of deep love! The hero, Arsen has definitely found a place in my heart. What an amazing character! Arsen's love for Amanda just shines right through this short read from start to finish. His patience, and understanding with the woman he loves endeared him to me. Not only was he kind and sensitive, but he also has this possessive and naughty side to him. In my book, that makes him perfect!
Arsen and Harper have been best friends forever, and while both want more, neither are brave enough to confess it just yet. The risk of losing the one person that matters most to them if the other didn't return their love is too much to take.
Arsen is from the wrong side of the tracks, not expected to amount to much because of it and his upbringing, but Harper sees something within him no one else does. For Harper, Arsen wants to be that man she sees and is taking steps to do so. After landing a new job, he can't wait to tell Harper and heads to her house. He's never been there, and he knows Harper has been keeping secrets from him. She's changed since her mom died, he just had no idea how bad things had gotten.
When he arrives, witnessing through the large window what she's been living with, he doesn't hesitate to step in, to protect his Harper regardless of the cost to himself...and he does, stopping the threat to her once and for all and landing him in jail.
Harper visits him every week, despite Arsen not wanting her to see him in there, and both are counting down the day until he's free, and seven years later, it arrives. Each of them are determined to move forward and finally admit the love they've been holding back.
Though Arsen has never regretted what he did to protect Harper, the town doesn't feel the same and he and Harper soon realize to truly get their forever they needed to start over...and they lived happily ever after.

JUDGMENT is one of the books in the Cards of Love series by various authors, this one was written by Jenika Snow. Arsen Gray is 26 years old and he’s just been released from prison after serving seven years for murder. He was from the wrong side of the tracks, people in their small town called him a menace who was nothing but trouble. Seven years ago he and Harper were best friends, he was her protector and the only one who didn’t treat her like white trash. They were both madly in love with each other but he didn’t want to make a move until he could offer her the kind of life she deserved and she was too shy to say anything. When her mom abandoned her and her dad a few years earlier her dad started drinking - a lot and he blamed Harper for her mom leaving. He began abusing her and she was too embarrassed to tell Arsen what was going on in her house. Arsen had just found out he’d been hired by a local attorney to work in his office and he was excited to tell Harper. The new job would get him closer to telling Harper his true feelings and claiming her for life. He never really went to her house but he was so happy and wanted to tell her right away so he went directly to her house from the interview. When he parked in front of her house he could hear her dad yelling horrible things at Harlow. He rushed to the door and entered her house just as her dad hit her in the face as she huddled on the ground trying to get away from him. Looking at her Arsen knew that wasn’t the first time her dad hit her and he launched himself at her dad. He wasn’t thinking as he continued to beat her dad to death until the police came and arrested him. Harper was hysterical, she told the police Arsen was protecting her but it was no use. Arsen would kill to protect her, and die to save her life. For seven years she visits him in prison every week even though he has told her not to come there. She works her ass off the whole time he’s gone living on the bare minimum and saving as much as she can for when he gets released and they can finally be together. He loves her to death but he hates her coming to the prison where he’s surrounded by sick sons of bitches. When he gets released she’s waiting outside the prison for him with a beautiful smile on her face. He wanted nothing more than to fuck her right there outside the prison but he wasn’t a complete barbarian, he knew he had to lay everything bare to her first.

I needed something to read that was short and sweet while I try to finish reading this other book, and this one fit the bill. It was so beautiful and passionate, I would really like to see another novel about Arsen and Harper (a full length one.) Some of the books in Cards of Love are hit or miss, this one was definitely a hit.
Sweet read about a guy who killed another person to protect the girl he loved. Arsen went to prision, obviously, and he spent seven years of his life behind bars rotting in a cell but he never regretted killing Harper's father. He saved her life that night so it was worth it.
I liked this Arsen guy a lot, ok? and Harper wasn't half bad, she was pretty decent too, waiting for him all those years and making a living for herself while waiting for Arsen to come out of jail. I ship them so hard.
Harper never had anyone aside from Arsen to protect her and he killed her father to do so, the man who should've kept her safe above all others. But he didn't and now he can never hurt Harper again. While that gives her a peace she will never take for granted, Arsen, her best friend, went to jail for seven years to give it to her. Harper knew the day Arsen was released things would need to be said, not the least of which was thank you, but feelings would be confessed and the look she receives is one of possession.
Arsen doesn't regret going to prison to keep Harper safe, only the seven years he lost with her. He tried pushing her away, his best friend he'd do anything to protect, but the feelings she brought out in him were growing, no longer deniable and when he's released, he'll take the steps to make her his.
Now, with Arsen free once again and Harper safe, these two can finally act on their love for one another, they just have to confess it first.
One-click now and follow along as one man proves he'll do anything to keep the love of his life, even if she doesn't know yet that she holds that title, safe. I liked seeing these two admit how they feel for one another, knowing the lengths Arsen willingly went to in order to keep her safe from the biggest threat to her. And their reunion, with nothing between them - no bars, no guards, and no abusive father - was a beautiful thing to witness.- By Elizabeth
The story was short but I enjoyed reading it. Harper has lived with her abusive alcoholic father ever since her mother left them. She doesn't tell anyone what happens when her father is drunk, getting more and more out of control. Not even Arsen her best friend, who she is in love with, also Arsen went to prison for seven years for protecting Harper from her father. Now he's out and he is going to claim what is his and make a life together.
TW/CW: Physical abuse, violence, murder, alcoholism, sexual harassment.
This was just really boring and you can basically read what happens in its summary, there’s just no plot or anything to make this a worthwhile read. This also needed to be edited because of grammar errors and other writing flops.
I have so far read a couple of the Cards of Love books, and they seem to be hit and misses. Judgment by Jenika Snow was a definite hit. I enjoyed this particular story as it touched all my favorite tropes. From the edginess of the main female lead's life to the true love angle and that no matter what happened that these two characters had each other. I also loved the fact that neither character pushed each other away or played games with each other's hearts as I hate how that often happens in books. We have Arsen and Harper. They were raised in a trailer park, and despite telling each other, they loved each other strongly. One night Harper's dad pushes her too far and lashes out more violently than ever, Arsen rushes in to protect Harper and Harper's dad ends up dead. Arsen is then arrested. The next part of the story is Arsen in prison and Harper religiously visiting him. Then, of course, they get their HEA when he is released. I loved it too, that despite having the "criminal' annotation hanging over his head. They didn't let that stop them from becoming a somebody and him providing for his future family. If you love edgy romance true love stories that make you go Awhh :) then Judgement by Jenika Snow is one that will hit the spot.
¡Me gustó mucho! 💕
4.5 Stars This is one of the books of the Cards of Love series, this one by Jenkia Snow. This story is a short novella and is definitely different. Great characters and storyline that is crammed pack in a short story. I really loved this quick read.
Me lo leí por culpa de Sara y tremenda joyita de libro!! Creo que mi única queja es que es corto, ojalá fuera más largo y detallara más la relación entre los protagonistas pero la trama 10/10!! Lo súper recomiendo💘
Great read if....you like quick reads, best friends to lovers, and an HEA.
Side Note: This book was different than what I usually read from Jenika. I like how it opened. I loved how it progressed. I love their bond and connection. I also love when that endured together and how even prison couldn't break them. She touched on the changes the system takes a person through as well as the consequences/hardships it is for a felon/ex con when they try to go into the world and get a job. As far as sex, it was steamy and filled with the expected and adored "mine", but it was dragged out just a little too much for me. I would've loved to have seen their first time and maybe like the morning after for another round. Regardless it was an enjoyable read.
A quick read. I enjoyed the first half of the story. After that it turned into a repetitive description of how much they loved each other and what they wanted to do to each other. I would have loved a bit more story of their life together instead of skipping so many years.
This book was good but I think it had a lot more potential. I would have liked to have more from them when they were finally able to get together but it was a novella so it’s understandable. Overall good read
I bow down to Jenika Snow once again. JUDGEMENT is another amazing piece of work. A spectacular addition to the CARDS OF LOVE series. I was pulled in from the start and hated that it ended so quickly. That being said I freakin loved it!!! This "card" shines among the rest of the collection.
JUDGEMENT is something we all do and have done to us. Jenkia just highlights the actions that come from it. Two kids who only wanted to live and love get stuck in a situation neither of them could ever imagine. One word, one action can change everything. Arsen and Harper face judgment and fight to make it through.
Harper is living in hell and still keeps a smile on her face. She can hold onto hope because of Arsen. Hiding the darkness is hard but imagining life without Arsen is worse. She can almost taste freedom and happiness. Arsen is the typical boy from the wrong side of the tracks. He's been dealt a crap hand at life but he's still got hope; he's still got Harper. One little thing, one little look is all it takes to change everything.
I hate spoilers so....I won't give anything away but I will say that I felt every word, every emotion in this story. I felt the longing and loss, but mostly I felt the guilt. Guilt that made me angry and frustrated. Still, every bit of it was worth it when it all tied up. The heat, the chemistry and off the charts desire between these two characters was intense. I pray, no wish, no demand more about Harper and Arsen.
I was gifted a copy of this for a fair/honest review. I am sooo beyond grateful for the chance.
Judgement is a quick and easy read about true love and acceptance.
Arsen and Harper are best friends who have secretly loved each other without telling the other. When Arsen kill's Harper's father to protect her, their lives change drastically. She's all he's thought about since he's been locked up and he's all she's worked hard for, waiting them to finally be together upon his release.
I loved the idea that these two were made for each other and how good and honest Aren really is. True love really shows in their love story. We always hear that someone would kill for the other but do they really mean it? Because, Arsen sure did.
This is a short book so I will be honest and tell you that most of it is the build up to when Arsen is released and then the steamy romance of when they finally get together. There wasn't much in between so I feel like this could have been a longer book to really help readers connect with the characters a bit more.
Overall, I enjoyed it and loved the idea of Harper waiting for the honest man that Arsen really is.
This was a story of friendship, love and second chances. For many, the fear of evolving a friendship to that next level is filled with fear. Fear of rejection and fear of ruining the friendship that holds them together. Harper and Arsen struggles with those fears. Best friends for as long as they could remember and secretly harbor a love that goes beyond that of a friend.
But circumstances found a way to keep them apart and no matter how many times Arsen pressed Harper to move on, she wasn’t having it. He was her “One” and no one, not even Arsen himself would alter her course to be with him.
Their love stood the test of time and when they were finally together - as it should have been - all was right in their worlds.
This story was a quick stand-alone that left me with the feeling of hope. Just because love is formed at a young age doesn’t mean that love means any less than if the individuals were adults. True love will always overcome any obstacle.
I really enjoyed this novella, it was a story that has a lot of trials and tribulations but it was a beautiful story, if you can describe it as such. I loved how even as a novella this story didn't leave anything unanswered. It was a short story that had it all.
Arsen and Harper were definitely destined to be together. No matter what stood between them. Both having had a rough life and Harper's being the cause of a fate filled night that was on the cards for a long time. It built the walls that kept them apart. Arsen I think did what any man would have done. And it made me love him and their story all the more.
This real quick story made for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon read. That I can honestly say I'd recommend to anyone. That especially likes it quick, dirty and full of love.
