Read this as one of our missionary biographies in school. I was impressed my kids hung in there as it was a bit wordy and too much back story. But the main story itself is quite fascinating and the whole Mercy ship industry has always intrigued me. We have friends in Vanuatu so I should probably ask if they know anything about this.

What an interesting story! I had never heard about cargo cults before, or of how soldiers in WWII had so deeply impacted the island cultures where they were temporarily stationed. It’s amazing to see God’s timing and arrangement of so many details in this situation. The early years of the author’s life were full of fun stories as well. I only give it 4 stars because the writing style was a little hard to follow at points, and because it seemed a bit repetitive in the third section.

An amazing story of a little Pacific Island with "John Frum" people on it....First off I had never heard of this group of people, but obviously God has had a plan for them since forever and John Rush takes us on an adventure of a lifetime as God is revealed to these precious people in quiet a miraculous way.

This is a wonderful story of how God prepared a remote people in Vanuatu for hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is also a memoir of John Rush who listened to the Spirit and left everything to follow God to the PacifIc, and serviced on the Mercy Ship: "Pacific Ruby".

DNF. Good, but long-winded. I read it aloud to my family while we traveled and we enjoyed it, but no one missed the end of the book when we hadn't finished by the end of our trip. :)

A very interesting book about a missionary's outreach to a 'cargo cult' in the Pacific Islands. They were waiting for "John Frum", a man from America, who would teach them about God. This missionary was able to share the Gospel with this group and see many come to Christ. It was exciting to see how God was working to prepare their hearts for His truth.
