Two female students at a community college have died during finals week, and the college and the city of North Bend want answers. With no witnesses to the crime and no obvious signs of foul play, these disturbing occurrences may be nothing more than unusual coincidences. The sheriff’s office and medical examiner have their hands full as they try to find logical explanations for the deaths.

Detective Kate Pierce begins to show signs of physical distress whenever she’s near the bodies, and further research leads her to believe she could be experiencing psychic transference—she’s feeling the same symptoms these students did when they took their last breaths.

Kate is determined to be heard, and when the shocking results of the toxicology reports are revealed, she and her colleagues know they’re headed down the right path. There can be only one answer and only one person involved—they just have to prove it.

When another student goes missing and is soon found dead, the case breaks wide open, and the final showdown between Kate and the suspect puts her transference theory to the ultimate test.

Editorial Review:
“In the second installment of Sutter’s smart new crime thriller series, Psychic Detective Kate Pierce finds herself on the team investigating how two young college students ended up dying under mysterious circumstances during finals week. While Kate has used her intuition to help solve cases before, this time her body starts experiencing odd physical symptoms when she’s in the presence of the victims’ bodies. After realizing that her symptoms are directly related to the manner in which the victims died, Kate tosses out a wild theory that proves to be correct—and puts her and her colleagues in the killer’s crosshairs. A terrific thriller with a thoroughly unexpected conclusion.” Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing

I just want to read a good book...it's been so long. This one was not good....oh it had good parts but I swear some authors must think they get paid by the page! A good 50-100 pages could have been eliminated simply cutting out repetition. If I had to read one more time about the sore stomach and bile in her throat....I get it! I don't need it hammered at me 20 times. The best was "They sat down in the waiting room and waited"....are you kidding me? And who says "I concur"? I think "I agree" is more likely. The detectives were all running around trying to find Mike when Kate and Amber interviewed a Mike but never even considered him. They also didn't look to see what professors the girls had in common....just the classes yet they were in different programs and different years. And a girl doesn't necessarily only date guys in her own year. Tutoring was mentioned early on and that was not investigated at all. Just a bunch of clues that the detectives were too obtuse to notice because the author made them that way. All in all what could have been a great book needed some tight editing.

This book wasn't as good as the first one in the series, I took this up expecting the same but I wasn't satisfied.
I noticed a few things wrong and I will list them out;
Okay let's start at the beginning where Jack made the call to Becca's mom shouldn't he use a office phone or something without the deceased's phone?
Number 2 I felt like the signs of who committed the murders were pretty clear since all they had to do was investigate the professors and they would have been much closer to finding the perp.
Number 3 Amber was so ignorant,I was soo annoyed by her

With that being said I feel like other than the stuff I said above the book was pretty good, but obviously not as good as the first one, the author could have written it better I feel and I would have given a 4 star rating if the book had gone through another round of editing..

Uhm...a little too predictable and the story has a few holes.

So, when it is discovered that the two victims go to the same school, no one thought to look at professors, teaching assistants, tutors, gardeners, campus cops or janitors as possible suspects. Instead they blindly focus on other students of the same age. And, when another girl the same age goes missing, they aren't worried she has also been killed, they don't even bother to check out the area where her car was found.

But hey, they are on the case when the suspect goes on the run. They only check properties that he is known to own. And he just goes to his own properties -so it works out.

And there is the psychic elements where our heroine gets physical symptoms that mirror the victims, but no one really pays too much attention to her or them. She also gets physical symptoms from the murderer -even where he has left and yet, he can sneak up on her and she doesn't notice until it is too late. Yeah, a bit inconsistent.

A disappointing read

Although this book had an interesting plot, I almost gave up reading it. The author obviously thought that all readers would have read the previous book because none of the characters were introduced nor was the relationship between characters ever explained. At the end of the book it was disclosed that this was a spin off of two previous series. In addition, the medical examiner was very poorly written. When she disclosed that she had only examined the body of the third victim for sexual assault because she was found nude but had failed to do so with the first two victims because they were found clothed, I couldn't believe it. Likewise when one of the detectives told her to make sure she examined ALL of the internal organs of one of the victims. Just disappointing.

Did anyone else notice a discrepancy in the book? The killer, musing over his method, thought he would take the victim’s van, putting his bike in the back. Then, the story has him putting into the back of his SUV. But, later, it is the victim’s van that is found at the park. Is it just me?

This is the first book I’ve read in this series and perhaps that is why it didn’t really do it for me. There were many things that made me think “what?” Lena was a bit lackadaisical in her examination of the bodies. Shouldn’t she have checked all the bodies for signs of sexual assault, not just the one because she was found naked? The lack of coordination between the officers was also lax. They met often and discussed the case but they missed links - the university was a connection; shouldn’t they have checked if there were courses/professors in common?

At least it was a quick read!

It was good but not great like the previous book. Like especially when Jack becomes worried about Kate & comes to her rescue.
As usual Amber Monroe pissed me off with her know-it-all attitude (exposing Kate nightmare before she was ready to tell anyone), thinking she's the boss, ordering people around when that is Jack's job. Then when Kate point to their killer, she's skeptical. Every case in her series Amber is always looking at Kate to reveal their killer, & now that she does she doesn't believe her until Kate proves she is right. THEN she believes Kate.

Did not enjoy this one unfortunately.
The chapters drag on and almost every chapter contains an elaborate description of the characters waiting, walking somewhere, calling someone who doesn’t pick up, or something like that. This book could’ve probably fit in 60% of its current page count.
The detectives are also incredibly slow at connecting the - to the reader extremely obvious - dots, so when they finally do each time it just feels like a massive eye roll.
I can see the potential in the plot concept, but it did not work out for me at all unfortunately.

The interesting plot line kept me reading this book, in spite of a few plot holes. However, it was badly in need of editing. It was nearly impossible to differentiate the characters, they were really hollow. Possibly you needed to read the first book to get it. The constantly repeated use of the term "bull pen," incorrectly done as two words nearly kept me from reading the rest. Hard to recommend this one.

"Another solid read"

I've read several books by this author now and they never disappoint. A solid story line, a wide range of characters, not too much paranormal, just the right amount of medical/technical detail to prevent the pace dropping. It's a simple recipe and it seems to work every time.

An easy read

Falls under the light readingcategory. There is a formula for this writer and the books structure are very similar. I think with the next one I am going to keep track of making and buying coffee. Transference rather than dreams was a change. Good enough to read the next

Plot was good but structure failed

While I like details, all of them don't have to be presented between quotes. More descriptive paragraphs and less talk would improve the flow. It read like a screen play.

I appreciated the effort that went into this story and there wasn't too much paranormal in it. I couldn't understand why the demented killer didn't shoot her at least twice while she was incapacitated but that's demented killers for you, no consistency.

I liked the story and it kept me on the edge. The only thing I don't like about the writing is the numerous recaps of how they make coffee ALL THE TIME, drink coffee all the time...etc. It's always referred to in all the series I've read and it's too repetitive.

Men just think they are superior!

Great book that shows the proclivities of the mind. Everyone has their own way of how they react to circumstances. This was a great study!

Worth the read

A nice, fast paced crime thriller. I enjoyed how the author wove the main character’s clairvoyance into an integral part of the story.

Twisted mind

It is that anyone could be so mixed up and devious. He may have a smart man but was invincible. This story was tragic but spellbinding.
