The Callaghans & McFaddens #9

Yesterday's Promises

Rate this book

They had been high school sweethearts until he presented her with an impossible choice that drove her away.

JD Carter knows he made some mistakes in his past, and he’s come home to try and make things right.

JD has landed a job as a gym teacher at his old high school, but he’s discovering that coming home isn’t always easy. Especially when he’s trying to right wrongs. He wants to prove he’s changed, that he’s learned from his mistakes, but certain people aren’t having it.

Family is everything to Danica Callaghan, so when her younger brother leaves because of heartless, hurtful words, she’s not inclined to forgive the man who said them.

Danica is excited about starting her second year as a music teacher at her old school. That all changes when she learns the new high school gym teacher is the man she once loved. And he seems determined to talk to her about their past. Too bad for JD, she has no interest in having any sort of conversation with him.

When their work throws them into close proximity, JD thinks he’ll finally have his chance. Unfortunately, if anything, it makes things worse for him. Despite all he’s been through, he begins to think he’s not deserving of the forgiveness he seeks.

Forgetting might not be possible, but will forgiveness pave the way to love? Or will the mistakes of the past be insurmountable?

A story of forgiveness and reconciliation.

It was nice getting to know Dancia Callaghan a little more and I like that JD returns from earlier in the series.

However I felt that this was more for the young adult. Some of the characters immaturity sometimes just frustrated me. I also missed the family. While we seen some of them I found that this story lacked the family dynamics which is my favourite aspect of this series.

I really liked the topic of Worship which was explored in this story. It made me reflect on my attitude towards Worship which is something that is important when walking with Christ.

Overall it was a nice Young Adult Christian contemporary romance.

Definitely looking forward to book 10. And I’m hoping Elliott is going to get his own story so maybe a book 11 Kim? :)

Useful

Love this series, always has depth and meaning to each story. This one is no exception. It helped me deal with some previously un-dealt with issues. All whilst reading a very well crafted story. Cannot recommend her books enough. She is truly gifted. Plus, always a great ending after growing through deep issues.🌟

Another great chapter in this Family saga.

Once again we are led into a wonderful story, involving members of a family we already love. A narrative that deals honestly with life situations and pulls no punches about the characters decisions, or the benefit faith based choices.

I'm glad I discovered this series and have enjoyed each one. Looking forward to the next story with great anticipation.

I have been waiting for this book since October, that is since the last one came out and I was not disappointed at all. If I am quite honest, Kimberly Ray Jordan rarely (if ever) disappoints. This 9th book in the series centered around Danica Callaghan spoke volumes about the struggle to forgive. And while many Christian-themed books find a way to insert this idea in their stories, KRJ successfully demonstrated, through her character's different perspectives, the great damage that holding on to resentment and personal failures can cause.
Without giving anything away, what I loved the most about this book was Danica and JD's journey to catharsis. In many ways, they needed to learn to let go so as to be able to move forward. They needed to find ways to cope with their feelings that were wholesome and upbuilding; and although that was a struggle, especially for JD, they kept going. I have said this in previous reviews, but thank you, Miss Jordan, for touching on various mental health topics in your stories and sharing the power that finding help can have on ones who struggle daily with warring thoughts.

Yes, this is a book about perseverance. Don't get me wrong, the "will they.. won't they..." banter between the two main characters as well as the joyous moments between the Callaghan-McFadden family were very present (in fact, I would have loved to have more C&M family discussions). But the story is powerful just like all of Kimberly Ray Jordan's novels. And, to me, the transcending lessons we learn as we read her stories remain etched in my memory.
I have said this before, and I say it again, I hate to think that book 10 (Dalton's story) means the end of the series, but I so look forward to reading about his growth and his return home.

A wonderful addition to this series. Not a book to be fully enjoyed outside of the series, but the themes are universal (forgiveness of ourselves and others and consequences of actions). It is also a great setup for the last book in the series.

This Was A Beautiful Romance about Forgiveness and Second Chances

This was a beautiful romance about forgiveness and second chances.
I love that you ask forgiveness from the person that has harmed you so the that God can extend forgiveness.
I have found myself in this situation several times over the past few years and having God's forgiveness makes life more peaceful.
I loved the story, the multifaceted characters and a chance to reunite with the Callaghans and McFaddens.
This book is recommended for those who love Christian romance with a strong inspirational message.

Loved it!

I’ve read (several times over) everything written by Kimberly Rae Jordan. I will probably be very sad when this series is complete. I’m grateful for the hours of enjoyment and escape.
This installment was terrific. I read it way too fast and ignored my littles for way too long.
Get it! Read it! Enjoy it!
And then pre-order the next one because this series is that good.

True Love Conquers

Wow, this story was filled with so much. There was love and hurt and many struggles but to see a love so deep overcome so much, is truly a blessing. JD and Danica struggled but matured enough to get through and they will get their happy ever after.
Another perfect story from Kimberly. I can't wait to watch Dalton.
It will be so sad to say goodbye to the Callaghan's and McFadden's. I love them all so much.

Another hit with the C&M family

I have enjoyed every one of books in the series. How each have grown though out the years. The story of Danica and Devon\JD was a great book an forgiveness and letting go of the past. It was a!so a good lesson about how the choices we make even as teens have life long effects. Great book wonderful characters.

I have really enjoyed this entire series from the beginning. It took a little bit to view Danica as an adult rather than a teenager, but it was also good to see her at a more mature place in life. The reunion with Devon needed to happen and the evolution to JD was complete. I am anxious to read Dalton’s story and revisit these amazing characters again.

Really good read! Such a beautiful story on how forgiveness can change you! I recommend this book to everyone to read and be encouraged that forgiveness changes us from the inside out if we open ourselves to God and allow Him to change and move in us!

Canada's Story

This book was slow reading. I gave it five stars because of the first eight books. The story of this family, Callaghans &McFaddens, was excellent from the first chapter. Each book stressed the importance of Christian values. I am looking forward to reading books by Me Jordan

Yesterday’s Promises

This is another great story about the Callahan /. McFadden family. This episode is about Danica and Devon. They had been teenagers in love but in their senior and junior years, Devon had found a new girl friend. They each went through many heartaches and disappointments. But in the end, they found their love for each other again. You will enjoy this

Such a fabulous family

I have a wonderful family, but I want to be adopted by this family! Yesterday’s Promises has so much encouragement, redemption and forgiveness in Devon/JD and Danica’s story. I love the support, prayer, words of encouragement and conviction, and love that the entire family give each other AND those that they’ve absorbed into their family!

YESTERDAY'S PROMISE

I've been waiting for this book, and it was all I expected and more. Danica and Sierra all grown up, it seems like they had been in their teens forever. Great emotional story between Danica and JD (Devon). This is my favorite series.

Another out of the park book.

This story was amazing. Relationships are tough, and people face real problems. Danica and JD had tons to work through. Nothing was scraped under the rug and they worked through copious amounts of pain. This might be my new favorite in the series.

Danica and JD

In this ninth book in the series, Danica has to learn to forgive to move beyond the past. JD must learn to forgive himself and not focus on his regrets so that he can realize the promises for his future. God worked out the details so these two can fulfill His plans.

It took me too way too long to read this book on my e-reader, and I don’t know why! LOL First book in the series that I’ve read, it was mostly good other than the repetitive parts like their wasn’t enough words to put into this book so it was repeating. I don’t know how else to explain it.

Trusting today’s promises

This book is the perfect demonstration of the transforming power of Jesus Christ. The Lord forgave Devon, but could Danica forgive him? Could he forgive himself? These are questions they pondered and worked through in this book. Very well done!
