A mystery and suspense stand alone adult crime thriller
It’s not what you hide, it’s who you hide from…
For two years, Annie Haywood has lived in the small picturesque town of Erin’s Bay on Long Island, thinking she was safe. Until now…
Abigail Brenner is also hiding her own secrets, the whereabouts of her missing father, Edward Brenner, is not one of them. He disappeared three years ago, took his sailing boat out one day on the calm blue waters of Erin’s Bay, and was never seen again.
Without the influence of her father, some say Abigail Brenner has turned in to a wild, uncontrollable little rich girl who’s just biding her time until she can access her trust fund and the family fortune. Others in the town just want her dead.
But someone is lurking amongst the wind-swept dunes at night, watching and waiting. And there are strange lights in the night sky above the lighthouse on Moors Island, a desolate, uninhabited rock that holds dark secrets of its own.
Then there is Ben Shaw, a stranger in town. He started out from the boardwalk on Coney Island, and kept heading east until Abigail Brenner offered him a ride.
Hidden under the surface of this seemingly idyllic community of wealth and privilege lies an undercurrent of jealousy, greed, and burning revenge.
There is no justice in this town. But justice is coming…

Expect the unexpected! Another riveting and deeply dark story, where once again Ben Shaw finds himself surrounded by unknown risks, violence, danger – and a huge dose of pure evil when he arrives in Erin’s Bay on Long Island, NY.
And, of course, the knight of the road justice-seeker draws the attention of the ladies. He hasn’t even hit the city limits and the young and pretty wild child, Abigail Brenner offers him a ride in her bright red Mustang convertible, along with lodging in her guesthouse behind the Brenner mansion. No doubt, she brings a Louis Vuitton bag full of trouble, too. Best of all, Ben gets a breakfast for champions -- no steel-cut oats this go-round.
A visit to the library brings Ben face-to-face with Annie Haywood, an attractive librarian (closer to Ben's age) with big secrets she keeps hidden in a small seaside house on the edge of town. One shared meal and Ben’s spending the night – and finding himself faced with more troubles.
Besides the leading ladies, there’s plenty of action in a fast-moving plot with lots of moving parts. Making up the rest of a large cast of characters doing lots of bad stuff are a group of sadistic and bullying bad boys, a father and his boat missing at sea for several years, a couple of older women (an ex-wife and a hitwoman) who walk on the dark side and an old geezer who feeds Ben the fresh catch of the day and information on weird lights in the night skies, flying saucers and aliens seen in the area.
Near the very end, Ellem throws readers a shocker – or does a good job trying at least. I took a guess surprising myself just before the big reveal came to the forefront. And I was right!
Here’s where I stop myself before giving away spoilers. Ben wants to tell his own story and doesn’t need any help from me. Suffice to say, this is another prize-winning addition to the No Justice Series.
Grabs you in its clutches early on and never releases the hold. A thriller you simply can’t put down and walk away.

If you like murder, mystery, mayhem, nasty villains, unassuming heroes, determined women, greed, lust, revenge, and raw ambition in your books and to stay up till 4am reading them, then this book is for you.
I just spent a long weekend immersed in the strange unpredictable vagabond life of Mr. Ben Shaw. JK Ellen's created a character with a persona that is not only intriguing, interesting, adventurous, brave ( or crazy) but also someone who helps the underdog, stands up for female rights, fights the criminal elements and does it all with no fanfare, boasting, chest beating or compensation. Then he quietly leaves town on his journey into what ever life has in store. Hopefully we have not seen the last of this character. And kudos to the author who, although is from the other side of the pond, does a pretty good job of relating his works to the American audiences. Only a few small English slips.
This is the darkest and best book in this series so far. They just keep getting better. Every time I read one I see a little more into the mysterious hero, Ben Shaw. In this one, he meets Abby, a little rich girl with her very own style. Although he turns down her offers, he feels the need to protect her. There are strange, violent things going on in this small town. Things you'd never expect. This book definitely drew me in from the first page, reading something I'd never want to see. It definitely kept my attention through the whole book. This thriller has all you need in a book. The characters are well written and the plot is amazing. I highly recommend it!
With every book I am more and more captivated by Ben Shaw. He has incredible adventures that most of us could only dream about. With every adventure comes a new problem for Shaw. He has the worst luck when it comes to being submerged into someone else's messy life. Loved this book especially because I grew up on Long Island, it was like reading about home. Looking forward to Shaw's next adventure.
I have grown very attached to Ben Shaw. I like the fact that underneath his friendly unassuming manner lies a man who will, sometimes reluctantly, defend those who need help. This book is full of thrills and suspense. I needed to make time for uninterrupted reading. There is enough about the plot in the blurb here, revealing much more would mean ticking the spoiler box. Suffice to say this is a compelling read.
Enjoyed the setting of a bay in Long Island for book 4 in the Justice series. I find myself captivated by Ben Shaw as he pursues justice for others. I would definitely want him on my side if I ever needed help with a situation! I loved the ending as well with a teaser that I don't want to spoil on here... Highly recommend!
The stories always provide excellent entertainment. Thrilling thoughts and actions from this shy hero. Never disappoints and I always end one of his books looking forward to what's next.
Another great read in this series with a surprising end leaving Ben with a guilty conscience !just love this series on the last book now do hope there is more .
Where ever he goes there is a wrong that needs righting. These books are all tied together in a word, character, or maybe one sentence. All fast and fun reads.
Our Ben seems to have a thing for damsels in distress. This time it's a very young, very spoiled, little rich girl.
Though, she tries using her charms on Ben he's not biting. But, he feels some kind of obligation to help her and protect her.
As the story of her not so charmed life unravels he feels even more compelled to stay in town and help figure out the mystery of her father's disappearance and apparent death.
He gets some help from a local woman, Annie Haywood, the town librarian, who turns out not to be so local. And has run-ins with some local thugs.
All this is leading up to finding Mr Brenner, the young girl's father.
At first, the ending seemed very predictable, but as the mystery of this poor girls past unravels, it becomes much more wretched. I was hit with a few surprises I did not see coming.
This is a testament to the writing skills of J. K. Ellem. He reels you in and just when you think you are free of the line he pulls it tight again. Catching you and captivating you with every word you read.
Another great Ben Shaw, No Justice novel.
