Daisy O’Donnell has never understood why some women found vampires so fascinating. As far as she was concerned, there was nothing attractive about the Undead. But that was before she met Erik Delacourt at a popular nightclub called the Crimson Crypt. Though he is virtually a stranger, she can’t deny the attraction between them, or the strange bond she feels… Erik is a powerful vampire, a fact he hesitates to reveal to Daisy. She doesn’t need to know he’s hunting the Blood Thief, a mysterious person draining the life from young vampires, and also responsible for destroying one of Erik’s friends. He prefers to keep her ignorant of the dark side of his life, feeling that by doing so he is keeping her safe from danger. Unbeknownst to Erik, Daisy is keeping a secret of her own.
This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Summary Daisy O'Donell is part of a family of vampire hunters and blood thieves. Daisy has never been comfortable with the idea of killing, so she sticks with taking the blood of vampires and selling it on the internet and gives her good money. While at a club, she meets a dark and mysterious man that she is drawn to. Before Daisy realizes it she is entering into a relationship with him. Erik is a vampire, and even though he has never really taken a chance on dating a mortal, Daisy is a bit different. The more he spends time with her, the more he wants to. But as they spend time together, there are certain things about Daisy that don't exactly fit and he is determined to find out her secrets. But there is a danger building to their kind and the master of the vampires in the west, and his closest friend is hunting down the blood thief and vampire killer. When the truth comes out, that Daisy and Erik are enemies, things couldn't get worse for them. But eventually they resolve issues, but, unfortunately, the danger to Daisy is only going to escalate. And soon Erik is put in a terrible position of choosing his best friend and his loyalty or his love for Daisy. Plot and Story Line Everlasting Kiss is the first of the duo Everlasting series. Now after reading these two books, I have really enjoyed the way that Amanda Ashley has developed her vampire-themed books and they are a ball to read. Everlasting Kiss is a story I have been waiting to listen to ,ever since I read the second book "Rhys" and really couldn't wait to read Erik and Daisy's story. I knew it would be kick ass, because in the second book we learn of Daisy's background and her unconventional family. I really love the enemies to lovers trope, and this one series rocked the house in every way. I just couldn't get enough of it.
Daisy and her family are quite unique. They have always been vampire hunters and blood thiefs. But it is very high risk for them. What was quite entertaining, was seeing Daisy and her family members interact, but most especially her brother (whom I totally think should fall in love with some vampire chick....he would deserve it). He is the worst of the three kids, he loves killing vampires. But Alex learns quite a few lessons in this book as well. He goes from being arrogant and conceited in thinking he will get no consequences for his actions, but he soon realizes that not all vampires are evil; just like not all humans are good. What was very amusing about these siblings, is their belief in thinking its okay to just randomly go into vampire homes and kill them at their weakest. I will admit that I found this part of the story a bit difficult to be alright with. They tend to live a double standard on this issue though. The whole family really does until Erik comes into the picture and after some painful lessons, they begin to understand what vampires are really. It was pretty fun to see them get a bit humbled.
The romance between Daisy and Erik is actually a fun one. Erik is a trooper in the relationship, though. I loved him way more than I liked Daisy. Mostly because he is so understanding and forgiving. I mean, her family is killing off his kind. And quite frankly, there is a moment in the relationship, where it takes a turn through a course of events, and Daisy is made to realize what she really has with Erik. This is where we see Daisy come to terms with certain aspects, and fight for the man she loves even if that means she is going against her family. Such an enjoyable read and definitely won me over. The Narrator I am really loving this narrator and recently discovered her this year. But she does a great job with the story, and with her inflections and the way she portrays the story is simply well done!! The Cover I love how dramatic it is. I love the white moon in the background with the red vivid colors in the front. Overall View Everlasting Kiss is a sensational vampire romance that will keep you on your toes and give you shivers of delight. mystery and adventure!!!
I can't believe I'm going to say this...but I was honestly offended by this book. haha! I mean, the "heroine" for lack of a better word, is basically a prejudiced idiot who believes its ok to violate another person's home and physically assault them all because their species is too new to be written into the constitution.LOL She then acts suprised when the man she has tried to assault decides that he isnt going to just "let her go" after she breaks into his house. Everything about her conflicting. She's bada$$ enough to go breaking into homes and stealing blood. But petrified of having to confront any of her victims awake. She's a virgin who doesn't drink or do much of anything risky, but steals blood and gets all hot when its within the context of sex. OOOOOK.
Cardboard dialog AND characters. I mean, everything about their interaction was so cliche and textbook, I felt nothing. He's the stereotypical hot vampire and I cannot for the life of me imagine why he wants this girl. Plus, hating the heroine makes it difficult to get into a book I suppose. I listed to this on audio and only finished because I was at work and had nothing else to listen to. I complained in my own head the entire time. DON'T waste your time and certainly not your money.
Daisy is a Blood Thief. Using a charmed compass made especially for her by her grandmother, she can find vampire lairs, break in, and drain some of their blood while they're sleeping, and sell vials over the internet. To her, this is a normal way of life, coming from a family of vampire hunters. Besides, vampires are moralless, soulless creatures who hunt and kill humans. Turnabout is fair play. But she can't kill them - to her, vampires were once human beings, and she can't stomach the idea of staking them.
She meets Erik Delacourt at a club and is instantly attracted to him. She doesn't know what it is about him, but she can't forget him. They meet each other a few times, even go out on a date. Nothing shocks her more when she goes out hunting for another vampire to fill in some of her online orders when she happens upon Erik's lair. Not only is he a vampire, but a warlock. Now she's in over her head.
Erik to Daisy immediately. There's just something about her that's refreshing to him. He's falling for her, and doesn't know what to do about that. And now that Rhys, the Master of the West Coast, wants the Blood Thief found and dispatched, what is Erik going to do? Hand over the one woman in centuries who has gotten under his skin, or hand her over, as vampire law and the threat of treachery demand him?
But as luck would have it, her oldest brother, Alex, comes to town. A price of $200,000 for Rhys's head is too much to resist. Hunting him down, Alex is attacked, and Daisy takes Alex to the only person who can help him - Erik. Now Rhys wants them both, Alex and Daisy, dead. What is Erik to do? Should he help hide Alex and Daisy and face Rhys's wrath, or should he hand over the woman he's fallen in love with, and the person who means very much to her?
**Great read! Although I found the story slow at the beginning, I thought it was only going to be the usual romance. However, a twist in the story brings up the heartbeat while you're rooting for Erik and Daisy. And just when you think the story's over, another twist and you're itching to turn the page to find out if it ends well. LOL, the only thing bugging me right now is I'll have to wait until October 2010 for Rhys's story! Oh, Ms. Ashley, can't you make it sooner? LOL!

Wow, she did it again. This is only the second book I've read from her but Amanda's work just fascinates me. If I were to think of this book as a recipe, the ingredients of my favorite vamp books would be as follows 1 part Twilight 1 part Moonlight 1 part Buffy 1 part Blade dash of Interview with the Vampire Directions: Shake well
It was such a compelling read. I spent the whole day I recieved the copy, laid up in bed enthralled with the words coming off the page. So vivid I can imagine this book to grow into an awesome movie. Or so I can hope. The story revolves around a vamp hunter, Daisy, who mysteriously falls in love with the "hunted." The novel flows so beautifully that, like Twilight, you are on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what's next. A little bit of love, sex & gore- what more could I ask for? There were two lines that really hit me in a personal view. The first being "He had never made light of her fears..." This one spoke to me in a comedic sense because my Grandma, Nanny, has what we call her own language. She has been the only person I have ever known of to use "make light." Thanks Mandy for the laugh. :P The other one I can't find the location but it's basically referring to a character who doesn't like to chat on the phone and much rather prefers online communication. Hmmm does that remind you of anyone? ME! Hello! HA!
As the book was nearing it's last pages, there was a dramatic turn of events that I ended up crying. Bleh. :) I am so excited for book two to come out in October this year. Keep up the good work Mandy. Until next time... xoxo -Steven
Well, this book did not disappoint. Totally predictable in quality of read. It was yet another wordy travel from place to place repetative meet someone new, do stupid thigs & make bad choices book. I could expect no less.
Girl walks into a bar... gets a drink. Guy walks into a bar meets girl...
Girl a blood stealer. Guy a vamp. Girls family are anti Vamp & Vamp hunters. Guys family long dead. Girls stupid hunter brother takes dumb sister from a freddie movie with him on a hunt. OOOoo old vamps can wake up during the day. Old vamp attacks stupid brother & sister who thinks all this is great & normal, stabs vamp not killing him & races brother to Vamp boyfriend to heal. Vamp boyfriend saves brother & they have to drive across the US from LA to Boston to hide from old vamp the didn't kill.
Annoying part... A ton! One major thing was the dad always calling his daughter "daughter"... who does that? Old people. Another thing...until the last 5 pages, they had only kissed. OOookkk! OH! and finally after they do the deed (it's very clean too) it's an after thought to mention that prior to this subtle event, she was a virgin. "OH! Ok!"
As far as the end, a dude is pissed! then next sentence he's straightening up his posture & he's totally over it & fine! "HUH??? Ok!"
Soo thats it with a whole bunch of fluff and wonderings all through the book...

I liked the story, but it seemed a bit tame for me. It may just be tame compared to other stuff I've been reading lately. I will probably read more from this author but I'm not racing out to buy it.
I did admire Daisy for not jumping Erik as soon as she wanted to, but ater 250 pages in a romance novel I've come to expect something. There were a few practicality plot points that just didn't make sense. Such as, Rhys was way to forgiving, last week Alex tried to kill him and then he is willing to sleep in the same room trusting him not to try again. Not real smart.
I always loved Amanda Ashley books. They are all mixed with great humor, heartbreaks and happily ever afters and this book was no exception. I loved Daisy, she made such a great heroine. I was glad she put her indifference aside to be with Erik. Rhys made a great secondary character and i can't wait to read his book. I was also hoping Alex would end up being with a vamp girl just to stick it too him. :D This was a great read and would recommend it to anyone.
I wanted this to be good, but alas, it was not. The plot had a couple things that were not the usual templated vampire book, but for the most part the it was predictable and at some points uninteresting.
I posted a 50% done review, this review should have all of that stuff and more.
When you first start a book you almost always have an idea on whether or not you have chosen well. It's the hook, the intro to a few characters, the scene and dialogue. At least by the end of Chapter One you should have an idea, right?
I think for me it may have been the first paragraph. I knew I wouldn't like it, that it wouldn't hold my interest and I may not finish it. Hit the nail on the head...all three times.
The author uses a LOT of familiar phrases and words throughout the majority of the book (I didn't finish so I can't say the whole thing, I just presume it's so). Almost like she's writing passages she highlighted in other books. I feel like I've read it all before because nothing feels fresh, witty or interesting at this point.
Daisy is soooo stupid. This character has nothing I expected her to have; i.e. intelligence, survival skills (any skills really), charisma and maturity. I'm not sure what she looks like, I'm thinking she's a blond but I may have gotten that from the cover and not actually from the character descriptions (same goes for majority of other characters - I think we just get hair color). I have no idea if she has an athletic build (which she should have if she tangles with vamps) but I do know it's a MIRACLE this girl is still alive. She is NOT a hunter, has ZERO skills and has just been very, very lucky in my opinion. She's a joke, (and her brother Alex -don't get me started on this dweeb) and an insult to hunters everywhere . They come from a family of vampire hunters. Dad is supposedly a bad ass too but I don't get that from him AT ALL. Son Alex could have been a chef (the world mourns the loss of orange juice infused pancakes), but he left it all to pursue a calling in vampire exterminations. I think the first three times this character is mentioned, he's at death's door twice. By all rights he should have died the first time, sparing the readers his unearned cocky/arrogance. How do any of them survive?? Oh yes, I forgot: they have a witch in the family (grandma). Maybe she created some stupid spell to keep them from being a vampire's snack long ago. *shruggs*
I don't like the mix of witch/warlock and vampire. The reason for merging the two really isn't clear. It's a footnote, a convenience for the author to say is was magic; not part of the story enough to make it interesting or worth it. Why bother?
Eric is a vamp and the only highlight of the book. (Instantly gets a whole bunch of points.) But they diminish quickly with his taste in women. *face palm* He's alright, not very dreamy, not very interesting but he's a vamp.
What is the attraction to Daisy? She treats him like crap, she's not good at her job (stealing a syringe full of blood and selling it online for medicinal properties), AND she throws temper tantrums in his home where she destroys his stuff and chucks food on the floor in great heaping mounds of cheese and sauce. I don't care WHY he has her at his place. She deserved SO much more than she got (she broke into his house on purpose) and she's pissed at HIM? Nah. He should have killed her ass right there -well after she cleaned up her mess. Any thoughts I had of liking Daisy or TRYING to like her went out the window at that moment. No respect for her as a character, a woman, a "victim", etc. Nope, done.
The love story makes ZERO sense, since Daisy hates him and insults him constantly. Oh and then suddenly he's the love of her life?? REALLY? When did that happen? What did I miss? (thumbs through the pages to find the moment he ceased to be a worthless blood-drinking monster with no rights and crossed into dream boat status.) They have had exactly zero meaningful conversations or magical moments that, in my opinion, could have changed her mind so quickly. Literally, she was hell bent on leaving his house and finally (a few days later maybe?), he lets her go and she's like, no I think I'll stay a little while longer, if that's okay with you. (Like she's a guest -WTF?)
GET THE 'F' OUTTA MY HOUSE LITTLE GIRL. You're lucky (again) you're not dead. (that would be my response)
Why is Eric a warlock? He's a VAMPIRE. I'm confused. Again, no point to it what-so-ever because he wasn't a practicing warlock anyway. (*hear my anguish* WHYYYYY?????)
Anywho, no real plot, no real story. Characters are barfy <-- that's a word right? I read a review that the sex scene(s) was lame but I couldn't make it that far. I really had no interest in these two coming together in any fashion.
I would have liked to have made it to the end of the book though because I was kind of hoping Eric would change his mind and dump Daisy. What are odds? Probably not great...and neither is this book. PASS.
I struggled to finish. It started out with some promise a blood thief who has enough morals to not kill outright although her internal dialogue of how it was great that she could do it because vampires didn't have rights yet is a little cring-y. Her restraint in the face of an irresistible attraction to a strange man also sets us up for some romance/tension. But it almost immediately goes out the window. Even though she's got over her initial reaction to finding out her love interest is actually a vamp and having had her own experience of waking up partly drained of blood she still doesn't seem to question whether she should rethink stealing blood. When her hunter brother comes to town and kills some vamps she warns him it's dangerous but choses to go with him to help when he won't stay home. Then when an attempt to kill a master vamp fails she takes him to her love interest to save yet won't tell her brother how bad he was hurt that his life was saved by vamp blood so he remains cocky and arrogant about his abilities against the master.
She claims this is her favourite brother but he acts like a jerk to her and in general. He's an arrogant jerk and when bad things happen to the family in the course of hunting vampires he immediately slams the vamps, insisting that they should all be hated all the more because of what happened rather than recognizing that when you attack someone they are likely to defend themselves. It was strange to me that none of the characters, including the vamps, ever say "well what do you expect, you broke into their home trying to kill them - how can you think they'd do anything but try to kill you to save themselves." Even if the vampires were 100% evil monsters in this book there should be no anger about this reaction. If the vamps just attacked on the street okay time to get your hate and vengeance on but when they react to your attack on them.... not so much.
I don't want the girl and her family to die but I can't see why to truly root for them either. When the brother starts to consider the benefits of being a vamp, immortality, eternal youth, speed, strength etc. he is immediately tempted. Not that he sympathises with the personality or anything of these beings only the lure of the power. what a hypocrite.
There is a it of a twist at the end but of course it's no surprise to anyone that she ends up immortal with her lover. When this happens she has not issues learning to take blood or getting over any angst about preying on humans she's just worried about how her family will react but other than that all good. Same with when she gave up her virginity even though she'd been holding onto it on her mom's advice for 27 years she just decided to do it and doesn't have any complex feeling or anything about that fact even when it's not sure that things will work out with her lover. Lots of nuance not explored in this story and the characters not at all sympathetic.
Wow I was completely shocked by the emotional part of this book I would say it's like a heart wrenching Love Story it's like a vampire loves a Vampire Hunter and a vampire hunter loves a vampire it's kind of like that yeah tragic love story that's what I was trying to think of but the good news is there is a good ending but there's a bit of an emotional uproar in the book so I would say if you can get through that then you're pretty good I still do like this and I'm going to continue the next book I think the writer could have ended a little differently kind of like it's kind of like a quick ending I guess is really the best way to explain it I think maybe not such a quick ending would have been five stars but I'm going to give it four stars I really love Eric and his his deep devotion and love for Daisy I was kind of conflicted about Daisy and there seems to be like a can a hypocriticalness to her character like it's kind of like okay it's okay to kill a vampire but it's not okay for vampire to kill a vampire hunter who's trying to kill them which doesn't make much sense but I do want to let you know that her character does grow into a much more mature person looking at vampires differently so that's good I think it is good for us to see the change and obviously relationships aren't going to work out if you can't accept and embrace who they are so I think that really goes to show what happens but yeah definitely this this is definitely a book series I'm interested I hope the next book you know is going to be just as good if not better

So Daisy's father and brothers are hunters, she didn't want to go quite that far so she just steals their blood while she is sleeping and sells it on the internet. So this implies that she has trained to handle vampires and knows a lot about them. But apparently she's just a dumbass...and kind of a bitch.
So she goes to a club called the Crypt, meets an otherworldly handsome guy that strange things happen around and not one ounce of her even considers the fact that he might be a vampire. So he is one and he ends up capturing her when she tries to steal his blood. At this point she learns that she doesn't actually know anything about vampires, except that the most powerful one is after her because of her "business"
I was not enjoying this but where it really lost me was when she believed the threat to have passed she was all "oh man that was close...better get back to stealing blood now". Really? Not even going to consider a career that you're good at? And then they flash back a little and she talks about how she trained with her father and brothers...you trained to be this terrible and stupid? Ugh this was just a straight up no.
Boo. I thought this book was terrible. I finished it because I'm not a quitter but it was juvenile. I felt like I was reading the bargain knock off of Twilight. The main character Daisy is irritating. I agree with other reviewers, her beliefs, work, family relationships, etc. didn't work. Example - she is a third or fourth generation vampire hunter/blood thief, but she goes out on several dates with a vampire and doesn't realize it?! Her father and brother both experienced hunters get caught by an old vampire and need to be saved. The next day the whole family goes out hunting and one brother gets killed, but they are supposed to know what they are doing? And Daisy gets mad because a vampire they were trying to kill and steal blood from kills her brother. She is an immature dense character. Boooo

I liked this book, but the main female character annoyed me. Like, she broke into a vampires house to steal his blood (which is so violating and wrong), then she gets mad and throws a tantrum when he wouldn't let her leave. Of course, he's not going to just let her leave after she broke into his house to steal his blood. Then she acts like a 5 year old because she trashes his house while he's out.
This was a very good love story. An interesting take on Vampire and mortal falling in love. Some sex scenes but not as juicy as they could of been. But was not impressed with the way the story ended. Just not what I expected. Hopefully the next book is a little better
Definitely a page turner, that I couldn't put down. When it comes to opposites attract, Daisy and Erik are worlds apart. But the sizzle of their attraction, keeps you turning the pages and your imagination tingling every sense.
Amanda Ashley is one of my favorite authors and this book didn’t disappoint.
Daisy O’Donnell is a vampire blood thief. She hunts the undead during the day using a handy compass like device her magical grandmother gave her, takes their blood using a needle and sells it online. She comes from a family of hunters starting with her father, two brothers and herself.
She meets Erik Delacourt at a local club and they instantly spot the other. After a dance, she flees from him and her erratic thoughts bouncing around in her head.
However, she’s unable to get him out of her head and they meet up multiple times until one night he stands her up.
Turns out, vampire Erik was at a coven meeting where leader, Rhys fumes about one of his protected vampires was a victim of the blood thief. They discuss possible ways to catch him and Erik suggests cameras.
It just so happens the very next day, she unknowingly picks Erik’s house as her next victim and because of his age, he catches her in the act. Locking her in the house, he leaves her to fume about her discovery. He comes back not only to her anger but also his house being in shambles.
Although he knows its not smart to keep her, especially since learning of her profession, but there is a part of Erik that feels that connection and doesn’t want to let her go.
Like most, they more days that pass the more they come to learn about the other. He’s nothing like all the other vampires she’s come in contact with. She suddenly remembers a vision her grandmother had of her having to choose between two destinies.
With his vampires off her track, he allows her to leave, but both won’t voice their wish to stay with the other. After a night at the club, she discovers her brother Alex has come to check on her. This puts a curve in Erik’s attempts to convince her to continue seeing him.
Now with her brother back and continuing his hunting ways of actually killing the vampires he finds, she begins questioning her career choice. Alex is determined to claim the prize for killing Rhys and goes hunting for him.
Although Erik cautions her against Alex’s chances he doesn’t listen to her and ends up getting himself almost killed when he goes up against Rhys. She luckily makes it to Erik’s in time and begs him to save Alex.
Once Erik realizes Rhys can now track Alex, he packs them up and they head cross country to her parents’ house, wanting safety in numbers. The drive is once that only raises Alex suspicions on Erik when they must take precautions with the sun.
Once they do reach home, Erik once again takes off, hating to leave her but not staying with vampire hunters. Despite his multiple attempts to put distance between them, she’s the only person who fulfills him.
As Rhys suspicions grows with Erik’s sudden disappearance, Erik is put in the position of defending her family against another vampire after Alex and her father are caught during a hunt.
Daisy’s gratitude after he saves her family marks an improvement in their relationship. However, all too soon, during a family hunting outing, they are ambushed and her brother Brandon is killed.
It’s clear that he’s not welcomed as they mourn and he returns to L.A. There he’s tied and locked up by Rhys for betrayal. As the weeks go by, the feeling that Erik is in trouble only increases. Reluctantly, Alex agrees to help her save him even after discovering he’s a vampire.
They rescue him from his cell. Back at her place he reads the ad about the bounty on Rhys head. As he begins to suspect who’s behind this, he goes searching for Rhys hoping he’ll let them go if they find the one behind trying to kill him. Rhys decides to give them the chance. They respond to the ad and wait for a reply.
Meanwhile, Daisy is tired of denying her feelings. He’s her vampire now and together they make it official and spend the night together.
They set in action their plan to catch the culprit using her brother. Their plan does end up working and Rhys discovers the one behind the bounty on him.
Thinking all was well, their defenses were down when the lover of the vampire slain, takes revenge out on Daisy when they attack and leave her for dead.
Talking with Rhys about his feelings for Daisy, he feels through their connection the attack. Holding her bleeding form, he pleads with her to allow him to change her. Hearing his need for her, she whispers ‘do it.’
Months later, Daisy returns home with Erik. Her secret isn’t kept quiet long and its Erik who stays after she flees from their reactions who tells of the event that lead to her change.
They realize they’d rather have her as a vampire than lose another child. Finally they welcome Erik to the family.
You know when you go out hunting vampire blood so that you can sell it on ebay for it's regenrative powers and then after you want to relax and hit a club for fun at night? Well, if you don't recognize the fact that the guy who is trying to pick you up is a vampire/warlock then that means that you are a bad vampire hunter and should probably quit the day job and try to break in to showbusiness instead.
This was NOT the worst romance I have heard. But it was pretty silly. This woman hunts vamps for profit but it's ok cause she doesn't kill them she just sells their blood. (My problem here is that vampires don't have their OWN blood which is why they suck blood traditionally so you would really be getting a person's blood, not a vampire's but we will let that slide.)
And there ia vampire that she falls in love with. But I guess that is ok because at one point he was a landed gentleman in England and is now an artist. The problem with that is that artists make money after they are dead and well, the dude isn't really dead is he? Where did he get the Van Gogh post-death money? And I bet his taxes are hell. But anyway he moves around a lot so that is supposed to explain it. Also in this book the older a vampire is the more he can go out in the sun. Wait what? Yep, they get older and become less vulnerable to sunlight. Kinda dumb.
And how does this wonderful relationship between the vampire/sorcerer and vampire blood hunter begin? Mostly by her getting locked in a house (for her protection of course) but being fed well and given fashionable clothing.
I really would just like to hear one crappy romance where the dude is broke and a normal looking guy who actually likes women for more than just sex. But that probably wouldn't sell.
There was also awesome narration like this, "True, she was 24 years old, lived alone and she hunted vampires for their blood, but that didn't mean she knew how to handle a man like Eric Belacourt."
And, "She smelled of strawberry shampoo, woman and blood of course." Is strawberry shampoo going to do anythng but remind you of Strawberry Shortcake dolls? That just isn't attractive.
And dialogue such as, "Dealing in vampire blood is no fit occupation for a young woman."
Also these people hang out at bars called The Crypt and one called Le Morte Rogue. Here is a hint for people that go there -- sounds like a place a vampire would like so if you are looking to hook up, go somewhere else.
And all of the, shall we say passionate, scenes seemed to involve the drinking of blood immediately before during or after. That is so unappealing. I mean have you seen blood? It doesn't really scream intimate time to me.
Plus, have you read the actual book Dracula or Salem's Lot? Vampires are totally ugly. At least they are in good books.
Other than that, put it on your Christmas list for someone you really can't stand. Reserve a different one for a person you out and out hate.
Pre-listen guess:
Oh this looks like it is going to be really funny. In that way where something that is not intended to be funny at all turns out to be hilariously bad.
This book did a great job of catching my attention early on and keeping me interested and turning the pages to see what would happen next. There's rarely any lull in the action, and the story progresses steadily throughout, with a pacing that seems fairly natural and right for the most part. From the moment Daisy and Erik meet, there is undeniable chemistry between them, chemistry that they both recognize, but they approach it in a very realistic manner I think, for they aren't immediately all over one another and heading straight to the nearest bed or other convenient location to have sex, but rather the intense chemistry actually causes them, or Daisy at least, to be even more cautious about getting carried away and giving in too easily than she might otherwise have been.
Daisy seems at first to be a very independant and courageous woman, pursuing a very dangerous career as a Blood Thief - a person who sneaks into vampires' lairs while they sleep and siphons off a pint or two of blood to sell on the internet by the vial. She approaches her job with confidence, but also with a distinct sense of naivete as she doesn't seem to truly grasp just how dangerous what she's doing is, or how easily things could go very wrong for her. Until of course, something does go wrong one day, and she has a close call that leaves her very shaken and beginning to question if maybe she should explore other career opportunities.
Erik is a very compelling figure, a very old vampire with incredible power, but also a very realistic character. He is intensely attracted to Daisy, but he bides his time while getting to know her at first, keeping things fairly casual between them and not trying to push her into anything she isn't ready for yet. At least until events throw them together, almost literally, and he's left with little choice but to escalate things between them a bit. Still, he never really tries to force a romantic realtionship on her, letting her take the lead most of the time and letting her be the one to decide when they take things to the next level.
While I probably wouldn't class this book as one of the best I've read, or even among my favorites, still I found it to be a very enjoyable read. I did have some issues with how some situations with her family were handled, and that's main reason this doesn't get 5 stars from me. Actually I considered giving it only 3 stars, but the rest was good enough to warrant 4 I think. Though barely 4. Anyone that's into vampire romances, or just paranormal romances in general, will enjoy reading this I think.
Everlasting Kiss is the story of Daisy O'Donnell,a blood thief who profits from stealing vampire blood, and a centuries old, incredibly handsome vampire and former British nobleman, Erik Delacourt. Regrettably, I was disappointed in this story; my first Amanda Ashley book. The book dragged in several places and I found that I was forcing myself to continue reading it.
Also, the unbelievable behavior of some of the characters detracted from the plot. For example, Daisy’s younger brother, Brandon, also earns his living by extracting blood from vampires during their day sleep and selling it on the internet (it is expensive and has medicinal qualities). Obviously a dangerous profession, older vamps can wake during the day and then a fight to the death for vamp and blood thief can ensue. Brandon becomes engaged and decides to give up this profession to accept a position with his future in-laws’ company. The entire family decides to go on a last hunt. Daisy’s father, Noah O’Donnell, and her older brother, Alex, are vampire hunters who hunt and stake vampires for the bounty. Now at this point in the story Daisy is in love with Erik Delacourt, a 300 year old vampire who takes what he needs from humans and leaves them unharmed, yet she has no qualms going on the hunt. For all she knows her vampire compass will lead her to Erik’s hotel in Boston. In the course of the hunt, which leads to a nest of four vamps, her brother Brandon is killed. Near the end of the scene the hunters find two dead humans in the house where the vamps are staying; proving that these are “bad” vamps. I found this scene a too obvious plot device to explain away the inconsistencies. If Daisy has decided that Erik is different from a mortal human, but morally good, what about all those vampires who are routinely hunted for a bounty? Is it possible that many of those vamps are also morally good? Honestly, Daisy should have had a bad hair day, or needed a pedicure, and should have skipped the hunt. There were other incidents that I found equally unbelievable, but you get the idea. Just a fyi tidbit, the last 75 pages or so of this book read much more smoothly than the rest of the story.
I gave this book 2.5 stars because there were some really idiotic scenes that made absolutely no sense. Daisy is from a vampire hunting family and she falls in love with a Erik, a vampire. Her brother, Alex comes to town and kills a vampire and a human, and she's okay with this? I am not! Then when Alex almost gets himself killed by a vampire, Daisy takes him to Erik to heal him, which he does because he loves Daisy. Now this vampire, Rhys, who just happens to be Erik's good friend is after both Daisy and Alex so Erik takes them to Boston to keep them safe. Boston is where Daisy's family live and now Alex and her father go out vampire hunting and don't return so Daisy calls Erik to go find them. Erik saves them from a vampire in Boston. While in Boston, Brandon, Daisy's other brother comes home and tells his family he is getting married and giving up vampire hunting, but now the family wants to go on one more hunt with him, with Daisy leading the way. Big problem! Daisy is in love with Erik, a vampire who has been nothing but nice to her, and she is still gung ho to hunt vampires? Hypocrite! Now this family invades a vampire's lair and oh my, the vampires fight back and Brandon is killed, everyone is shocked! Really? Dumb, dumb, dumb! Now Daisy is all mad at Erik because a vampire killed her brother. Erik who has saved her other brother, twice, her father once, and of course he has saved her too. What a spoiled little brat! At this point I had to quit on the book and finish it at a later time! What were you thinking, Amanda Ashley? Did you think the readers would be okay with this? This could have been a really good read but it is hard to get past the stupidity of this heroine! I will listen to the other one in this series because I was able to get it from the library. I hope it doesn't have idiotic scenes in it. I really liked this book until the parts mentioned above which is why I will listen to the 2nd one.
If you have read Sookie Stackhouse, no need to read this. This is basically Sookie without the unecessary charm and character development. And hotness. Only Sookie is antisocial and is helping her family kill vampires while she's dating one.
While obliviously living the worst possible manifestation of a prejudice, this vampire killing family is repeatedly injured, rescued by the vampire boyfriend (who never takes her to task for attempting to murder his friends). Only the vampire has any common sense, so someone gets hurt. Since the killer was a vampire, she blames the boyfriend.
This is not a book to revive your faith in humanity...or the future of fiction.
I think the author was trying to paint Daisy as being justified in her vampire hunting because vampires are evil killers. But what sort of person falls in love with an evil killer, and yet manages to hold on to the stereotype without questioning it at all? Wouldn't there be a question that maybe the vampire you're plunging a stake into is actually a nice one like the one you were making out with an hour before? Anita Blake focuses on the bad guys, but there is no sign that these guys are- they are just driving around with a magic compass killing anything they find and selling its blood. These are the supposed good guys?
To top it off, the writing is really mediocre. There are several pages devoted to debating something that had been confirmed openly several chapters earlier (whether the bad guy had tasted Daisy's brother). The characters are shallow and unintelligent. Unlike Sookie, Daisy doesn't seem like she'd ensnare anyone in her spell. Overall, not a good book.
The market foe this book is people who do not put much thought into what they are reading.
Everlasting kiss by Amanda Ashley is about a vampire, Erik Delacourt, falling in love with a woman, Daisy O'Donnell, who is a vampire hunter. He finds out that she is also the Blood Thief who has been finding the vampire lairs during the day and stealing the blood and selling it. By the time he finds this out, the area vampires are trying to find her so that they can kill her. In the middle of this, her oldest brother, Alex, comes to town to kill the head vampire, Rhys, because a hit has been placed on him and Alex wants the reward money. Daisy's and Alex's family is vampire hunters.
When I first started reading this book, I did not like Daisy. I thought that she was selfish, self-centered, a hypocrite, and very immature. I could not see what in the world Erik saw in her. I totally disliked her when she trashed Erik's house with the food he had ordered for her. Erik, a powerful vampire in his own right, was also a witch. Based on Daisy's behavior, their relationship could have taken another turn, but Erik was very patient with her and refused to let her have her way when she was acting childish. He thought that sometimes he had made the wrong decisions with her. I thought he had made the wrong decisions sometimes before he acted on some of them. He thought that after he had already acted on them. Like exchanging blood with her.
So I was indecisive sometimes about finishing the book; but I am glad that I did. The story came together. Daisy grew up a little bit and became the woman Erik thought she was. Another interesting character in the book to me was Rhys. I look forward to reading his story. Hopefully, the main female character in that book won't be as trifling as Daisy.
I have read alot of reviews for this author on other books she has written. There are alot of mixed reviews where her writing is concerned. this book is the first book I've read written by her. The beginning starts out okay, but it does keep you interested enough to wonder what is going to happen. The relationship with erik and Daisey, starts out pretty good but then it seems too... lack of a better word, "simple". I like her brother Alex. He's a very irritating but loveable character. Anyone who has a brother knows what I mean. The depth in her relationships with her parents and other brother just seemed too much on the surface for me to really care or even see this family that is suppose to be so close. Just like her relationship with erik. no depth. The love scenes sucked. I feel like if ur gonna drag out the sexual tension like it was done in this book, then when she finally gives herself to erik for the 1st time and after that, it should be something that does not appear to be rushed through. No emotion or passion @ all. And if you are gonna write about a love scene, then "write about the love scene" don't cause the moment to pass before it has a chance to even start. And all of the major trouble in this book seemed like it was all cleaned up and worked out way too easily.
Needless to say, I will not be reading anymore of her books.. No, I take that back. I may try the one coming in Oct 2010 about Rhys. I read the sneak peak to that one hopefully his story is worth reading. His character in this book was easy to over look although he was suppose to be the most feared. But me reading this book is a BIG maybe.
4 ½ stars. WOW! This was such a shockingly amazing book! Now, I don’t mean that in a derogatory way as Ms. Ashley is one of my all time favorite vampire romance authors. No, what I mean was, compared to how it started! This book, much to my chagrin, started out very, very slowly. I didn’t see much of a plot beyond the obvious vampire/human dilemma. Boy, was I wrong!!
Daisy O’Donnell is a Blood Thief- she takes some blood from vampires while they are sleeping to sell on the internet. (Don’t worry- this is not a spoiler- you read this in the first chapter). The O’Donnell family is comprised of vampire hunters. What is Daisy to do when she accidently falls in love with one?
Erik Delacourt is a centuries old vampire who is close friends with the Master of the West Coast, Rhys Costain. Unfortunately, a fellow vampire of Erik and Rhys has just been killed. Rhys wants to find the killer and stop him as soon as possible. Erik unwittingly finds himself caught in an impossible position (though not the one you’d expect).
As the plot speeds to the finish line, I think you will find unexpected twists and a very satisfying ending! I now can’t wait to read Rhys’ story, Everlasting Desire, which is due out October 2010!
Ok, you are a professional Blood Thief. This means that you go out during the day hunting for sleeping vampires to steal blood from so that you can sell it on Ebay for it's regenerative powers. Then when you meet a cute guy at the club, called THE CRYPT, no less, the following night and you DON'T recognize the fact that he's a vampire you should just quit your day job!!!
Seriously? This was kind of ridiculous. Daisy hunts vampires for profit but it's ok cause she doesn't kill them she just steals and then sells their blood. Riiiight.
Then there is a vampire named Eric that she falls in love with but he fools her because in this book the older a vampire is the more he can go out in the sun. Wait what? Yep, they get older and become less vulnerable to sunlight. Whatever.
And how does this wonderful relationship between the vampire and blood thief begin? Mostly by him kidnapping her, locking her against her will in his house (for her own protection, of course)but being fed well and fashionably clothed.
Then, once things start to get passionate all the scenes seem to involve BOTH of them drinking blood immediately before during or after....I'm sorry. That is just so unappealing. I mean have you seen blood? It doesn't really scream "sexy time" to me.
I confess, I didn't enjoy this book. This book wasn't very creative (to me) and I didn't enjoy any of the characters. In fact, Daisy's brother was really annoying, as annoying as Daisy was. The vampire seemed to be powerful, but they weren't or at least not when they came against the heroine who didn't seem to know that much about Vampires. Someone on goodreads said this book was filled with every vampire cliché known to man, and they were dead on. There was nothing creative about this story and the characters were annoying. The heroine was a vampire hunter who fell in love with vampires. She stole their blood and sold it on the black market for money. She killed them because they were already “dead”, but she got mad when one vampire fought back and killed her brother. She felt disgust and anger at her vampire love that her brother was dead. (I’m sorry Daisy, but aren’t you and your family vampire hunters? Do you think they don’t feel loss or is it an emotion reserved only for your family?). Anyway, I love the romance novels written under this author’s pseudonym Madeline Baker, so I will give her Amanda Ashley books another try. Just not this series.
I think I will try another book by this author, but not in this series.
Amanda Ashley takes the reader into a different time, when vampires are hunted for their blood by human blood thiefs to sale on the black market, heads & ash by human hunters for contract, and humans are fully aware of vampire exsistance. Daisy finds herself in L.A. away from her family back in Boston. She's a blood thief during the day, she's been trained to taking blood from sleeping vampires. One evening while out at a local club she comes across a steamy hunk of a man that she starts to fall for after only seeing him a few times, that is until she realizes he's a vampire and she just broke into his home & attempted to steal his blood. Then the adventure starts. Amanda Ashley takes a different path in this vampire/paranormal romance than previous novels, and I honestly believe it isn't her best work by far. The plot is easy to follow, characters memorable, but it still doesn't cut it compared to her other work, it lacks the charismatic characters she's well known for. I liked it, I just didn't love it. I'm still a fan and will still read her other novels, but this one just left me alittle unsatified overall. ~A.S. Johnson
