Salvador is the top assassin in the world: an invisible killer, feared, respected, in demand, and hunted by every crime agency on the planet.
For Salvador, killing is an art-form and a way of life, until during an accidental meeting with a mysterious monk on the banks of Loch Ness in Scotland, Salvador is given a rare, unwanted gift: the ability to heal people.
Cursed and burdened with a 'gift' he cannot give back, Salvador must evaluate his life afresh, being able to kill with one hand, and cure with the other. Denying his Gift, he takes on his toughest assignments yet: to achieve the impossible by killing a top Scottish crime lord, Tommy McNunn, whilst locked up - and protected - inside Scotland's impenetrable and most secure prison, nestled amidst the Scottish Highlands. And then to kill DCI Campbell McKenzie, the man responsible for McNunn's imprisonment.
Now also hunted by Russia's top agent who is ordered to kill Salvador at all costs, Salvador discovers that everything in life happens for a reason, and that life and death are two sides of the same coin. A coin which he now owns.
But who is Salvador? What is the secret that protects his life? Why has he been given The Gift? And 'how' does he manage to pull off the crime of the century?

The Assassin's Gift is a fully independent novel, but may be read in a series following 'Say You're Sorry' and ' I Spy, I Saw Her Die'.
Ian Irvine was brought up in Scotland, and studied Physics for far too many years, before travelling the world working for high-technology companies. Ian has spent a career helping build the internet and delivering its benefits to users throughout the world,...as well as helping to bring up a family. Ian enjoys writing, painting and composing in his spare time. His particular joy is found in taking scientific fact and creating a thrilling story around it in such a way that readers learn science whilst enjoying the thrill of the ride. It is Ian's hope that everyone who reads an I.C.P.Irvine novel will come away learning something interesting that they would never otherwise have found an interest in. Never Science fiction. Always science fact. With a twist.
The first of Ian's novels is a Genetic Conspiracy Thriller which explores the world of Stem Cell Research and encourages us all to ask some very searching questions about the advances that science is making, and how much we, or others, should let it affect society. A contemporary adventure, "The Orlando File" takes the reader around the world and back, and creates a unique moral dilemma that the reader cannot help but get embroiled in: at the end, the reader must ask themself, what would they do in that situation?
His second novel "The Crown of Thorns" explores the power of genetics, explores the questions that the potential to clone humans will raise, and asks the ultimate question...what would happen if a scientist found a way to clone Jesus Christ?
Ian's third novel "London 2012 : What If?" departs from the world of genetics and explores an interesting possibility that Quantum Physics raises:the possibility for parallel worlds to exist alongside each other...and what would happen if a man who wondered what other types of lives he could be living had he made other choices, where unexpectedly to step from one world into another parallel world. "What If" is also an interesting voyage through human emotions, and many readers will find themselves asking themselves similar questions that the lead character does as they read the book. As with both "The Crown of Thorns" and "The Orlando File", at the end of the book the reader is left thinking...and different readers may take away different views on how the novels did, or should have ended... It is hoped that in this way, the novels will make themselves ideal subjects for reading clubs or book clubs.
Ian hopes that if you honour him by spending the time reading one his novels, that you will find it a positive experience, and enjoy it. He also invites you to email him and let him know if you did or did not enjoy the novel. And if you did, what were your favourite parts?
Clever gripping story. The author has a way of telling a story that makes you totally believe some quite amazing things! I enjoyed the book very much. It had me gripped from cover to cover. The author again has given a very disinterested enjoyable read. Thank goodness there are more of his i can continue to read as they are excellent!
Somehow I was warned, perhaps by a review of the book, that I would not find any answers to what was to happened to the characters in this book, because the author has ended the first book very abruptly and recommends that the reader buys book two. Why not say that in the first instance? It is an unlikely, but compelling story of a hired assassin who becomes a ‘healer’ after a visit to the monastery not far from the Loch Ness. A cold minded assassin, it’s just a job, and very well paid, becomes a witness to Nessie’s existence. She starts believing that there is magic and hope for all before she returns to her tasks two assassinations, half paid for already. The. The book ends!
A top assassin's life is upended when she receives a gift of healing at a Scottish monastery. Hard to end lives and extend lives. Her latest assignment and some chance encounters might give her clarity.
A rollicking read this book is filled with engaging characters, suspense and humour. I loved the character of Alessandra. Surprisingly relatable her skill set is amazing. I was less enthralled with DCI McKenzie. Well plotted and fast paced this is a terrific read.
This book has multiple story lines so weaved together that you wonder how the author could did this so well. The characters are real to the reader and their emotions and thoughts are felt. I enjoyed the multiple story lines, the characters and the settings. Mr. Irvine has a way to almost feel as you are they or at the very least, sympathize with their feelings.
I read Say you're Sorry first which was fantastic. This is part 1 of The Assassin's Gift and is a great follow on as I know many characters though it is standalone. I can't wait to get part 2. The author has a brilliant marketing strategy as well as plots for his books. I am totally hooked. Such great pace and intrigue. Brilliant. Would get 5 but too many unresolved issues which I'm sure will conclude in book 2. Excellent Mr Irvine.
I have read most of your books and it takes a terrific author to come up with so many characters in all of your books. This is one of the best am dying to read book two and thank you for doing kindle unlimited it means i can enjoy hundreds of books over a year and at just £7.99 a month it's pretty amazing please keep writing we'll keep reading. magdg
Another great book by Ian. Read it in a few hours and am about to start book 2. Can't wait to see how it ends. Have travelled a lot in Scotland so I could visualise the places described as I have been to all of them the only place I can't remember is the monastery. The story is quick moving and gives background of Alce\Salvadore. An assassin come healer is an unusual mix but seems to work.
Ian C. P. Irvine again writes another in the DC Mackenzie series. Salvador is on the trail of assassination after assassination. Who is next, or can Salvador be stopped, perhaps by an assassin's bullet? A must read if you are a fan of the Irvine or not.If not this book will make you a fan.
Every book from this author has been fantastic! I have been sucked right into the storyline and felt I knew the characters so well. The Assasin's gift is a title that, as a woman, thought wouldn't appeal to me but l loved every page. Onto book 2..
Love how historic, romance, medical knowledge of both past and present along with technology can all come together. With good insight into how both old and New worlds would appear to both sides. Can't wait until next books
This is a gripping story full of wonderful details, I feel as if I’m right there. Great characters , some but heads and weird twists... great writing style! I’m gonna read everything you write!!!
A really good read but not as good as the other. Starts out really interesting and really slows down. “Salvador” tells about starting so young as an assassin. Takes you through a few different contract info. I do recommend reading
I have only recently started reading Ian C. P. Irvine's books and have found them totally absorbing. I have never read books with such wonderfully crafted stories. They are the best books I have ever read!!
This is one of the best books I've read in many a day. Straight up and very entertaining. I can hardly wait to start the next one in the series. This author has a great mind in spinning a story.
Alive is good at killing people ,I wonder will we as good saving them all too be discovered in book two,So far It was a good read, looking forward too reading book two. I read " I spy I saw her die"I found it refreshing with the unexpected twists
Very little action and a lot of nonsense drama that does not move the plot along. It could be that the author is just long winded and is using book 1 for character development.
Great book but as usual it doesn’t end its not a real book just some chapters of a real book. At the end the author offers part 2 for free but doesn’t really give it to you.
