Commander Adrian Huxton is ready to retire from the Armada, and be a father to his teenage daughter. But on the last day of his career, the prophet Emoche Hulle declares a holy crusade by God, and launches a coup that smashes the Systems and scatters the Armada. Adrian barely escapes aboard his damaged supercarrier Vindication, leaving his daughter behind.
Adrian promised he'd come back for her, and he keeps his promises. He must rally his terrified crew and put Vindication back into the fight. Enemies are everywhere in open space, and friendlies unknown. Yet there's no fury like a parent when their child is in danger, and no parent has fury like Adrian Huxton. He's won many battles at Vindication's helm. Now they must fight one more time.
Vindication is damned good sci-fi. A good read for any occasion. Pulse pounding action and a very human heart at its core. Can't go wrong with this one.
I picked this book up on a whim and I have to admit, there’s a lot of to like about “Vindication.” This novel is bursting at the seams with large scale, ship to ship combat with a view from the captain’s chair. However, while that’s why you would buy a book like this, it’s not JUST that. There is political and military intrigue, swashbuckling sword fights, world building and some romance. If you’re a fan of other self-published space opera authors like Joshua Dalzelle, B.V Larson, C.H Gideon, or many others, I think it’s worth giving Mr. Wolfson a try.
Admiral Adrian Huxton is a capable anti-hero. He is a mixture old, crafty, ruthless and courageous. He’s routinely faced with terrible choices in this story and he’s never given the luxury of a “hero saves the day” ending. Something is always sacrificed (this usually means dead bodies). He is also unworried by honor, rather, his choices are made out of a sense of the greater good.
As to the military sci-fi end of things, Mr. Wolfson seems to understand enough about military culture that his creation is believable (I am former Army). That’s a big positive when writing this type of sci-fi.
To the negatives: There are some minor typos & errors, though this did not detract from the story for me. I would also like to see page numbers (I read the paperback edition).
Finally, when I say there is action, I mean there is a LOT of action. However, when you consider Vindication’s plot (it’s obviously the first book of a series), you realize this is the beginning of a very bloody intergalactic civil war. So, if action is what you’re looking for, this is where you can find it.
I was fortunate enough to find a free copy of this novel. I was tentative at first as free novels are usually overpriced, if you get my drift. I am proud to say that this one is a glaring exception. A good storyline and great characters blended into pulse quickening space battles make this a long read you don't want to end. Bravo Sir! You have talent.
A standard military sci fi space opera. Good story line a equal amount of action. Many spelling, typos and poor edits make you stop to fill in the blank. Poor edit on storyline / timeline as you get lost asto action sequences, actors talking and actors actions. A 99c story and not more as is
All action, a little Rome, England, even a reference to a Houston Basketball legend thrown in. I loved the book. A new series to follow, a new hero to root for. Ken you did a wonderful job. Keep up the good work. I'll keep buying The books.
Book 1 had a lot of errors throughout. The book was confusing in the story line and did not flow through each scene and chapter. Once I understood whom and what was mostly going on it was interesting enough. The story seemed rushed and ridged for most of the book, but the overall story was okay.
Excellent space opera adventure that grabbed me from the first page. The action was non-stop and the storyline was full of twist and turns. With strong characters that are easy to identify with it is a hard book to put down. I really liked this book and I highly recommend it.
The storyline was excellent and very engaging. Unfortunately, all the typos, spelling errors and grammatical errors slowed the reading and made the reading experience less pleasurable.
Too confusing. Too many people without enough information concerning them. Gaps in between ideas Concepts and scenes that are huge. No I didn't think the book was worth finishing and I didn't.
