OK IM FREAKING OUT OVER THIS VOLUME WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED ------------------ Lets backtrack! Someone teach Riz consent! First chapter of this new volume and he’s talking about how he ate Tem consensually, because “it’s like how good ingredients offer no resistance. the act was gentle, peaceful, and therefore consensual” UH NO, I think Tem did NOT want to be eaten, he was just way weaker than you! I do love his warped rationality behind his actions, it makes his antagonistic presence so much creepier.
When they finally meet for the fight on New Year’s Eve, Riz arrives soaked in Pina’s blood, but Pina is still alive for now.. We go back to louis POV, where he’s having a heart to heart with Ibuki, who I have come to really love as a character. Louis notes, “because their bodies are strong, they have a profound sense of camaraderie. Because they hunger for meat, they always look for suffering somehow. I like carnivores. I think I have for a long time now.” He’s thinking about how he can’t let Legosi die, and how he must leave the shishigumi to save him. He tells this to Ibuki, who says that once you leave the underworld, going back to normalcy will not be easy. In a sort of honor to Louis’ decision, Ibuki decides to leave as well, but because he has been in the dark for so long, he knows he cannot go back, and decides he must die. he tells Louis to either shoot him, or be eaten. before he can even act, another shishigumi does, which was also Ibuki's wishes (if i ever try to eat the boss, shoot me.) This scene HURT. The the metaphorical entrance into a dark tunnel, with pitch black panels and riveting narrative that could almost be heard through its intensity, the acts that bled comradary between these two characters, it was just so brilliantly done. And with that, ibuki is dead, and Louis is no longer associated with the shishigumi, dead to them in a sense. And we’re back to the fight between Riz and Louis. There’s a beautiful panel where Riz sees Legosi as a collection of moths, and it’s shown that Legosi has a strong respect for life, which gives him strength. And then Riz’ dissection of his own actions, how he realizes now that it truly was just murder that he justified so he could live with himself. And then Louis arrived, and Legosi manages to escape to him, deeply injured. The scene we have between these two is nothing less than a lovers conversation, I have seen no chemistry between haru and Legosi in many, many volumes. But these two have something special. Louis finally cried, he finally let himself cry, and it was for how badly he wanted Legosi to live and be by his side. So much so that he offers up his damn foot! And the one with the branding “4” on it at that! What I was not expecting...Legosi to ACTUALLY EAT. THE. FOOT. WHAAAT!?!?! Now, I know Legosi has respected life in a greater way through his journey, but eating this guys foot, how does that make them closer friends? Isn't this exactly the messed up delusion Riz had? The story acts like Louis offering the foot means that they're different, but it still looks one in the same to me. Louis looks at Legosi, after having his foot EATEN by the man, and thinks "those fangs, they let me be weak." It's as if 1. these two are MADLY in love and 2. no matter how hard herbivores and carnivores try, they will always go back to their instincts. Which I think was the real point here. Although it could have been EASILY SOLVED BY CALLING THE POLICE WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BRING HONOR INTO THIS LEGOSI, JUST CALL THE POLICE YOURSELF OH MY GOSH. So Pina calls the police, at an awkward time because legosi just ate a FOOT. Riz is taken away, obviously the bad guy, and so is Legosi, although the officer acknowledges that it looks like there's more to the story and Legosi probably won't be punished too badly. Louis passes out and is taken to the hospital. There was SO MUCH packed into this volume, so much to process. I had to process Ibuki's death, Louis leaving the Shishigumi, Louis getting his foot eaten, Legosi eating said foot, Legosi being beaten the crap out of, Legosi and Louis having the most emotional conversation ever convincing me that they're absolute soulmates, and all of Riz's messed up commentary inbetween. So, it was exciting from start to finish, but man. At least it was the foot that was branded, I think Louis is finally letting that past go, instead of trying to cover up for it. I think that's part of what this means too.

Legoshi finally confronts Riz the bear, as he knows that he’s the one who devoured a student, in a fierce fight on New Year’s that also show what being a carnivore really means while Louis decides to leave the Shishi-gumi gang for good, but it’s far from simple. However, an unexpected and very shocking form of help could get Legoshi his win but also put him in trouble. It really is just so unbelievable. A (100%/Outstanding)
3.5 star. Of course my favorite aspect of this manga is Legosi and Haru. Their relationship is crazy complex and I want to see where is goes. But the story contradicts itself an awful lot. It's honestly getting too annoying and I'm hoping it has to do with translation errors. I mean like Legosi's grandfather is a pacifist and then 2 seconds later he is spilling everyones blood. Another example is instead of calling the cops Legosi fights this bad guy and then does something else really crazy I didn't think he believed in and then of course the fight was for nothing because the cops show up anyway. I think my mind melted after that chapter.
I am really enjoying the complications that come with all the different species though. It's kind of funny to realize that if a leopard was a humanoid and wore clothes they would all prefer plain colors because they have designs already on their skin. So every knew chapter comes with new understandings and I find it very interesting.
I have a lot more gripes I think than I do praises. It's just that I love the main characters so much but sometimes one of them will be put into that background so long that I'm not sure they are apart of the story anymore. Haru is the main essential for many many moons then she is gone and it doesn't seem like anyone notices or cares and then bam out of no where she is essential again.
I really just reading now to experience more scenes with them two together. They main story is getting so crazy and it's not really relatable and often doesn't make since to me.

I loved the brutal fight between Legoshi and Riz, but didn't like the conclusion, especially because of what happened to Louis. 😭 Police has now taken Riz and Legoshi into custody. Looks like life is going to be even harder for Legoshi from here.

This was a fantastic volume, everyone has led up to this intense crescendo that is the fight between Legoshi and Riz.
Before that though I have to say how sad Ibuki’s death is, but I loved how symbolic it was at the same time. To me Ibuki’s death was a sign of how the black market life is now dead to Louis and he has to move on and never go back to it or the Shishigumi, literally being threatened by Free to not return or else he will devour Louis. I’m going to miss the Shishigumi though, it was really fun to see Louis commanding all these scary lions lol.
Then there was the moment between Legoshi and Louis. Louis finally let himself cry for the first time, really showing how much he cares for Legoshi. I gotta say I’m trying to not ship them together but goddammit you’d think this was an intense BL if it weren’t for Haru lol.
And then Legoshi eats Louis’ fucking leg!! Like holy shit?! I understand why but goddamn that must have been brutal. I love that it was the leg with the branded foot though. I feel like Louis has finally let go of his past now (This whole volume feels like it centred a lot on Louis letting go of things). Legoshi and Riz now have something in common, having devoured another beast. But Legoshi has something more since his beast is still alive. I loved the contrast between the two.
Then finally at the end when the battle is done and the police have gotten involved (thanks Pina!) Louis goes to say one final thing to Riz, but instead of digging deep and going the usual Louis route, he ends up being honest and apologizes to Riz for not seeing how lonely Riz was. Louis really has gone through the most character development here, I really look forward to seeing how he’s changed in future volumes. Legoshi too! I wonder what things will be like for him now that he’s eaten another beasts flesh, where does he go from here?
And now I’ve finished the final volume that is all content that I’ve seen in the anime already! I’ve been excited to get to this point where everything is truly new and surprising. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here !!!

The story is losing me unfortunately. I wasn’t expecting Legoshi to go through with Louis’s request and I feel like it contradicts his principles and the trainings he spent so much time on. The dialogue during Legoshi and Riz’s fight was quite repetitive and it got to a point where I just wanted it to be over. Louis’s stint with the Shishigumi came to a great conclusion. I’m interested to see how everyone at the school will react when they finally see him. Also hoping we get more Haru in the next volume. It’s disappointing how much she’s been put on the back burner.
Don't get me wrong, this was pretty psychotic, but I still enjoyed it, and I see where Itagaki wants to get with all these unexpected twists and turns in Louis' life, and the battle between Legoshi and Riz.
I guess the shocking moment between Louis and Legoshi paid off for all the dragging of the previous battle, and the wandering thoughts of our wolf protagonist; but I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit worried about where things might go from here...
