This story of two souls that were never meant to be is absolutely swoony and sweet, and breathtakingly sad. I devoured it loving every minute until the bittersweet end.

What would you do to keep the only person who’s ever loved you in your life? Even knowing she doesn’t belong to you and that her destiny lies somewhere else with someone else?
“I couldn't shake the feeling that you had taken something of mine. Something you had no right to.” ~ Logan

Griselda, cruel mother to Ax and heinous ruler of the Tor, kidnapped Sadie from her human home and for years experimented, conditioned and trained her for her own evil plan to rule the galaxy. What Griselda didn’t plan on was for her own son to care so deeply for the human. Will their love hinder her scheme?

Axton has lived a sad, lonely life, knowing he was nothing but a disappointment to his mother until he met Sadie. She brought light, happiness and love to his otherwise dreary reality and after years their friendship grew to something much more and now he’ll do anything to protect her and preserve their love. Can he outmaneuver his mother before she’s taken from him?
“I don’t think a lifetime will ever be enough with a girl like Sadie.”

I met Axton in Saven: Denial, novella #2.5 in the series and got to know more about him and his relationship with Sadie in Saven: Defiance and even after reading this story from his perspective I’m not sure what he’ll do in the series’ conclusion. I am certain of several things though. I despise Griselda, which in itself is great because it manifests good characterization. My heart shattered for Ax and I hope against hope he’ll be able to find the happiness he deserves.
“Gaining a conscience because of my love for Sadie has shown me the strength of compassion, the power of empathy, and the intelligence of thinking things through before reacting.”

After reading the previous books in the series, this story’s plot wasn’t a complete surprise. What was a revelation was the level of understanding and attachment I developed for Ax. I hurt with his self-deprecation and couldn’t believe how cruel and unfair his life was, he just keeps drawing the short straw in everything and it wouldn’t be farfetched if desperation took him to the dark side, which would be truly sad. But he did get to experience love and happiness.
“Desperation has ruined me. And I walked into its inviting embrace with open arms.”

Even though I’m 100% team Logan, Siobhán expertly crafts an emotional rollercoaster story in which Ax and Sadie’s love blooms and is completely endearing. I adored reading this novella, the writing is fabulous and if I was invested in the characters and series before I can’t describe how much I love it now.
I can't wait to see how Siobhán ties loose ends!!
“Her love has the power to repair all the damage Mother has done. To mold and reshape me so that I can be the man I’ve always hope I could be. A man others would follow. A man worthy of such a special girl. A man I can be proud of. Sadie’s love give me the courage to fight for that man.”

The Heir and The Human is novella 3.1 in the Saven sci-fi YA series by Siobhan Davis. It is an optional read in the series and could be read as a standalone but it’s highly encouraged to read the entire series thus far. Told from Ax’s point of view it related his and Sadie’s back story. It has a cliffhanger ending.

I would like to thank Siobhan Davis for my copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Just when you think you are making your mind up about how you feel about Axton this novella will slam you in the heart and change the way you are looking at the whole story, I was in bits wanting to stroke his lovely long blonde hair and tell him it's ok you are worthy of so much more! Now I'm in a confused state not knowing who Sadie will end up with or more like who she is lucky enough to have.

The story is told from Ax's point of view and we learn about Sadie's past life on Tor and what their relationship was like and how they are with each other, you have no idea how much this guy loves her he will literally walk to the ends of the earth just to keep her safe. In Saven Defiance I just thought Axton was hot, kind of crazy and just couldn't let Sadie go but now that I have read this my opinion has changed on him so much so I don't know who I prefer, how can you do this to me, Siobhan?!?! I now understand why he can't handle Sadie and Logan being all over each other and it makes me think it's selfish that Sadie won't take her memories back.

We also get to see how both of them interacted with other people and I really like this version of Sadie, she's strong and knows what she wants don't get me wrong she is like that in all the books but she just feels different in this one I completely fell in love with her all over again. We see Ax's relationship with other Heir's and even King Coryn and what they had planned plus you also see him interact with Logan which was kind of awkward but made me giggle. I loved reading about Izzy and Blade it was nice to know what had happened before and now I completely understand why she never wanted to speak about it, I actually was in tears for all of them.

I'm in love with this series seriously how can Siobhan make you fall in love with so many characters at once? She has this way of surprising you and can change your feeling's about someone in seconds it amazes me. Yeah, it's a complete emotional rollercoaster but it's a fun one with so many twists, turns and loops that you feel physically drained after reading one of her books!

This is meant to be an optional novella but I feel it is a must, you get to know the real Axton plus about how much Sadie loved him. Now I'm patiently waiting for the next book and I may find myself rooting for Ax.. or will someone new pop up.. or will I still be in love with Logan & Haydn? WHO KNOWS!!! I JUST KNOW I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!

The Heir and the Human is an optional Saven short story, but if you enjoy Axton then I certainly recommend giving it a read. This story was so enlightening, giving much more than I had anticipated.

As we’ve worked through the books, I’ve come to enjoy the Saven series more and more. When Axton was introduced, I feared the worst – my mind screamed ‘love triangle’ and I hate those things. Fortunately, the story revolving around Axton and Sadie was a lot more grown up than I had expected it to be. There were a few moments where I wanted to shake some sense into Axton, moments where I wanted his character to slip out of the story, but over time he played a vital part and I came to enjoy his character. I knew quite quickly that he would never be a favourite character, but by the end of Defiance I did want to know more about him. I was willing to accept the role he has to play, and I’m more than interested to see what that role is and where it leads the story.

With this short story, I came to appreciate Axton a lot more. I came to understand his actions, why he did the things he did. If I’m being brutally honest, a part of me feared this short story. I feared it would be a lot of excuses. I feared it would try to make a love triangle something I should want. I feared it would try to leave me shipping Sadie with Axton instead of Logan. I mean, it took me long enough to start shipping Sadie and Logan, to have a short story try to change my mind so soon was not okay with me.

However, this short story was great.

Rather than giving the entirety of the history between Axton and Sadie, it merely gives the most relevant information. The short story tells us about the events leading up to Griselda sending Sadie back, tearing apart the love between the two. Of course, Axton is going to do something drastic. Of course, it does not work. We knew both of these things before going into the story – it’s all told in Defiance, hence why this should be read after book three – but it was great to have details.

Honestly, I could say so much, but I won’t. It’s short and sweet, giving you an insight into Axton as a character. If you like his character then I’m sure you will love this story. If, like me, you’re unsure of him then it is worth a read anyway. If nothing else, you see more of him and it may work to change your view. If nothing else, you will understand him better.

I would also like to add a small side note. Whilst reading Defiance I came to the conclusion that the Saven series would make a great television show. I’m not one to endorse such a thing – nine times out of ten the show or movie never does it justice – but occasionally there are times when I would like to see how the big screen would do something. Such is the case with the Saven series, and this short story merely works to highlight how much there is to work with. I can just imagine parts of this story working as flashback scenes, or as episodes into the past. Seriously, how cool do you think a Saven television series would be? I know I’d watch it.

As always, a great read. It is certainly worth reading if you’re a fan of the Saven series; whilst optional it does add a lot more than you would think for so few pages.

Finally, once again, I would like to thank the author for allowing me to advance read this. It’s much appreciated and I’m excited for the last book and the remaining short stories that are to come!

**I received an eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review**

I must preface with: I’m wholeheartedly Team Logan. While I wanted to slap some sense into him in the first Saven novel, I fell in love with him along with Sadie. Being three books deep into this series (four if you count the novella, which you have to read in order for any of Saven Defiance to make sense), and my love for Logan is still strong.

However…Siobhan had me sympathizing with Axton. Yes, I sympathized with the boy that earned a few “Oh, come on!”s from me when I read Saven Denial and Defiance. Well played, Davis, well played.

The Heir and the Human goes back to the warped time that Sadie stayed on Torc. This is the life she had while her other life is taking place back on Earth at the same time, just in a different universe. On a different path, if you will. If you think too long about the intricacies of it, then you’ll only confuse yourself. There’s a lot of multidimensional, physics out the wazoo, and just plain science fiction that makes it all possible.

The time that Sadie was on Torc with Axton—this life that she did not spend with Logan—the details of it, is unknown to the reader until this novella. After reading it, part of me wishes that Sadie wanted to remember her time with her friends back on Torc. I learned a lot about Izzy and why she is the way she is, met some characters that I wanted to have a happily-ever-after, and fell in love for the first time with Ax right beside Sadie. There is the other part of me that is glad she doesn’t remember any of these happenings. 1) Because I love Logan, and if Sadie messes that up, I’ll scream, and 2) I’m confused! Imagine if Sadie had remembered it and had to live through it. My brain is already trying to process the whole time warped/alternate universe—what if I had lived it (for purely fangirl purposes, we will ignore that time travel is not possible—but you know…Area 51 has always intrigued me…). Top if off with two boys that she’s given everything—and I do mean everything, people—to, and it’s a recipe for something. I’m not sure if it’s disaster or something deliciously addictive.

Siobhan Davis knows how to write novellas that matter. The novellas that accompany her True Calling series were phenomenal, and she’s proving that she knows how to make them matter once again in her Saven series. You don’t have to read The Heir and the Human if you don’t want to, but you’ll want to if you even have a remote interest in this series. It’s just good. If you do read it (who am I kidding? You will), you have to read it after reading Defiance. I did not like Ax at the end of Defiance. Up until that point I was okay with his overall presence. Some of Sadie’s decisions regarding him were, well, infuriating, but I could deal—until the end. Then, Siobhan threw me for a loop and gave me this.

The Heir and the Human has heart—the broken (a whole lotta that), the empty, the full, and the damaged. There’s action, suspense, romance, and jaw dropping moments. The balance between sci-fi and romance is perfect. I have my sci-fi fix and my romance fix all in one with any of the Saven books and can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

…And here is the Rest of the Story of Axton and Sadie’s life, love and now the loss they faced. Anyone on the fence about Axton versus Logan in Sadie’s life are going to be brought to your romantic knees as Axton tells their love story that was doomed from the start. The Heir and the Human is the latest great read from Siobhan Davis and I actually read it twice and yes, I ran the gamut of emotions both times. A romantic’s dream, two amazing men, both powerful and both deeply in love with a girl who was trained/drugged and brainwashed to infiltrate and destroy at least one of them. As it looks now, Sadie has already been lost to Axton, thanks to his brutal, power-hungry and rabidly vile mother, the ruler of Tor.

Imagine growing up without the love and support of your parent, made fun and publicly belittled, instead. That was Axton’s life, until Sadie came along and he had found his destined mate, someone who loved him for who he was, someone he loved from the depths of his soul. Leave it to Griselda to crush their dreams, no matter how hard Axton tried to foil her plotting.

Once again, Siobhan Davis drives home another hit, with all of the raw intensity she is known for, all of the dialogue she brings to life and the amazing characters she has chiseled into multifaceted beings. The Saven Series is a reader’s delight, The Heir and the Human is like the filling in a multi-layered cake. Griselda? Not sure she can ever be redeemed, but Axton will break your heart in his sincerity.

4.25 Ax stars!
I couldn't shake the feeling that you had taken something of mine. Something you had no right to. Logan, The Heir and the Human

In Denial, Ax told us what happened when Sadie was on Tor with him and how her memory was erased. In Heir we are shown it.

There weren't a lot of surprises, but I still enjoyed the story from Ax's perspective. In this novella, he is quite a likable character and you can't help but feel bad for the guy. At times I was even debating if he had Sadie first. With the time travel, it's kind of a chicken and the egg type thing.

***Thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.***

The third book in the Saven series left me feeling all sorts of anger towards Ax. Sure, he was in an impossible situation. I could understand his heartbreak, sadness and anger. It pretty much sucked to be him. But then he started crossing that line into crazy, and I'm worried he will do something unforgivable in the final book in the series.

Then I read this novella, and now I don't know how to feel. There's such a fine line here between fighting for what you love and knowing when to let go. I really hope bad things happen to Griselda in the final book for what she has done to Ax, Sadie, Logan... pretty much every character in the series. Ooh she has it coming.

This book was such an emotional rollercoaster! Though I love Logan, I can't help but feel sad for Axton. At the end of Saven defiance, I hated his betrayal but after reading this novella, I can pretty much understand his anguish. He has pretty hard life and sadie is the only one who made his life beautiful and now he has lost everything from his evil mother. We also get to know about Ax friends Blade and Izzy. The ending was definitely heart wrenching! There is no end for Griselda's cruelty and I hate her even more than I did before.

A great addition to the series!

I was kind of dreading reading this one. I love this series. I love Sadie and Logan. This novella is all about Sadie's time with Ax, when she loved him. I knew it would be heartbreaking. I knew I would fall in love with the idea of Sadie and Axton, because Siobhan Davis knows how to make you do that. But at the same time I'm in love with the idea of Sadie and Logan. Am I making sense?! It's funny because Siobhan did a great job with Sadie's character in this book. Sadie had a little bit of a different way about her, because she had a different life growing up than the life the Sadie Logan loves had. It made a difference in little things about their personality, but in the big things they were the same. You have to read it to understand what I mean. But, I knew this would be heartbreaking and I'm hoping in the last book of the Saven series things work out for Ax, he needs some happiness in his life. I highly recommend this novella though, it adds a lot to the series!! Which is now one of my all time favorite book series ever!!!!

This review is going to be really short as I don't really have much to say. I really enjoyed this novella which outlined the past in which Sadie doesn't remember but remains branded onto Ax's mind. This story is optional but I recommend it to all that have read the previous books as it gives insight into Sadie's hidden past.

Okay, I should really have been up to date on the Saven series before reading this one. If I was I might give it better marks. The point of this story is that a young man and young woman want to be together but parents deem it inappropriate. I had hoped for a sub plot but we get just a nod at destroying a device, despite a detailed background and an on-going process of administering altered DNA to some of the people on this planet. Hence only one of the couple is a legacy human. We see a formidable mother, mysterious people talking about revenge, time travel, wormholes, and references to concubines and arranged marriages. The tension builds to action at the finish.

Those who are following the series will enjoy it if they like teen romances. I noticed some strong language. My thought: if the man you love calls you baby, it's a bad sign.

I downloaded an ARC. This is an unbiased review.

*Major spoilers for those who haven't read the previous books in this series.*

I was a little hesitant to read this book at first seeing how Axton wasn't my favourite character but at the same time I was curious to learn what happened back at the time when Sadie was at Tor. This book definitely didn't disappoint.

Axton is aware of her mother's heinous plans for Sadie. If she goes through her plan, Sadie will go through a memory wipe process before she is returned to earth for her mission to destroy Logan. But Ax and Sadie are both in love with each other and they are not ready to lose each other yet. Will Ax be able to save Sadie in time.

This book is narrated from Ax's POV. We get to see Sadie before she was returned to earth. So many experiments were conducted on her and she had to go through tough training. Seeing Ax and Sadie together was a little weird because I can't bear to see her with anyone except Logan. From this one thing is clear, whoever Sadie loves and cares about, she is passionately devoted to them. But I liked Ax when she was with Sadie, he was a better person with her.

Nonetheless I did like their friendship but Ax knew everything her mother was doing, maybe not the actual motive behind it but he knew everything beside that. He did try to save Sadie from his mother but I wish he had tried harder because Sadie went through a freaking lot! I loved Sadie's friendship with Izzy and I was heartbroken to see what happened when they tried to break the rules.

But... there always remains a but when it comes to Ax, I didn't like how he treated Sadie in the previous book, like she was something to be won over and I could see that particular voice at the end of the novella as well. Even if he becomes a martyr in the end of this series, I don't think I will ever love this guy but this novella was definitely an interesting read and I'm glad I read it.

Overall, The Heir and the Human was a good read. I liked how everything was executed. The writing was smooth and easy to read and it was fast paced. I seriously can't wait to read Saven Declaration!!

Recommend it?

Yes.

*Spoilers for the previous books in this review*

My heart breaks for Ax! I'm so sad! Reading this and knowing things won't turn out great for Ax's plans was gut-wrenching! Also, poor Izzy! In the next book, I need for there to be some way for Ax to have his Sadie, while Logan can also have his Sadie. Like some type of weird time warp thing(twin Sadies!), and also while we are doing that, we can also pick up Blade too! I want everyone to be happy dang it! For our current Sadie, I still want her with Logan because the Sadie she is now, isn't the Sadie she was with Ax, and there is a glimpse of Logan in this book, and Logan showed how strong, kind, and mature he is, and if everyone didn't mess with his life, he would have been happy with Sadie, so I can't root for Ax over Logan. This book definitely endeared Ax more to me, and it was great to see Sadie and him together, and to see how much they do love each other, and their wedding; so sweet! Ax tries so hard in this book to do right by Sadie, and it's painful to see him crushed by her loss. I do wish Ax took a stronger approach towards his evil hag of a mother, but I understand where he is coming from, but it has been all his life, and I feel he should have stepped up. So, to recap, we need 2 Sadies because I don't want to see Logan or Ax with anybody else, and we also need to get Blade along the way! I love Siobhan Davis' writing, and the whole Saven series, and I can't wait to read the upcoming novellas, and the upcoming conclusion to the Saven saga!

If you love Axton’s character or still feel on the fence about him, then this novella is a must.

As much as I hate her, I really love Griselda. Female villains seem exponentially more evil, and her behavior throughout this novella had my jaw dropping a number of times—especially the end! Wow. That ending. I had an idea about how this would end after reading Saven Defiance, but after getting further attached to Siobhan’s complex characters, I found myself feeling heartbroken all over again.

Like I said for my review of Saven Defiance, I want Ax to finally have some happiness in his life. Even when he was with Sadie, he was constantly worrying about Logan and her departure back to Earth. His mother has never given him the love he deserves, and after finding out who his father is in Saven Defiance, well nothing needs to be said there. Basically, I worry he is going to take a turn for the worse, and I wish he could somehow get his version of Sadie back.

Wonderful novella by Siobhan Davis. I had inferred and anticipated some of what we learned of Axton and Sadie in this novel, but not on the detailed level. You find out in the other full-length novels how deeply Axton loves Sadie, but part of me always wondered if it was for show. This novella helps the reader understand his genuine love for her and some details of their relationship with Izzy and Blade.

One of the best parts of this novella was getting to see Izzy and Blade. This novella gives the reader an understanding as to why Izzy never wanted to talk about a "boyfriend" in Saven:Defiance, yet looked so hurt to Sadie whenever the subject came up in conversation.

This novella, while nice to see the details of Axton's life and his relationship with Sadie, is wrought with such anguish and under the hands of Griselda and the many people who betray and dislike Axton on Torc. It makes you despise her more (if even possible) and feel so bad for Ax.

This one is the short story in the view point of Ax. It gives us a little bit of insight into what went on with his past and his feelings for Sadie, and their history together. If you're looking for answers as to the ending of book #3 with this one, you won't find it, it's purely past.

Made me feel a twinge of sympathy but he's still not my favorite character.

I liked this lil novella as it explains the heart ache that ax is feeling, that sadie and ax did tryely love and care for each other. Though i wish ax had more of a backbone when dealing with his mum. But then again with the monster she is and what she has done i dont entirely blame him!
Heartbroken over blade and the heartache that is affecting izzy and axton.

I HATE AXTON!

OK now that I got that out of my system I can continue this review. I'm not totally heartless OK? I do admit that he had a pretty rough life. But I don't like him as a person. Never really have and never really will. But this book gave me the insight into Sadie's other lifetime that I was looking for. And poor Izzy! I refuse to say why I feel bad for her. If you want to know you'll have to read this book yourself.

The Heir and the Human by Siobhan Davis is a bonus novella of the Saven series written from the point of view of Axton a.k.a Ax, who readers met in Saven Denial (Saven book #2.5). It also includes other Saven series favorites such as Sadie, Logan, Izzy and Dali, and introduces Blaze among other new characters. It is the most emotionally charged piece of the series and I can now see why the author admitted to her street team that she cried while writing it. Based on the timeline of the series, the events in The Heir and the Human (Saven series #3.1) technically occur before the events of Saven Denial, however, I would recommend reading Saven Denial first to better understand the events in this novella.

When I fall in love with a series like I have with the Saven series, I simply cannot get enough of the characters. Bonus novellas are a perfect way to get my fix of additional page time with these beloved characters, get further insight into their backstories and get a clearer picture of the entertaining yet complex plot. The Heir and the Human will fulfill this need and more for fans of the series. I read the entire novella in one day, proving how much I craved more Ax page time. He is A+ fictional boyfriend material and the scenes between him and Sadie reflected some of the most authentically charged chemistry that I have read in a long.

The final chapter ripped my heart right out of my chest, but it was worth it to read more about Ax and Sadie. It is not that I don’t like Logan, the other love interest in the Saven books, I just prefer the type of relationship between Sadie and Ax. Logan and Sadie are a love and passion at first sight type of relationship. Ax and Sadie started as friends which seems to make their bond even deeper in their romantic relationship. Don’t worry, Sadie isn’t a cheater. The time travel and memory altering in the books makes sure of that. If you want to know what I mean by that, you better download the series ASAP. The Heir and the Human is another beautiful sci-fi masterpiece by the magnificent Siobhan Davis. I highly recommend it!

Wow! Well written and so romantic. In this novella we get an insight into Axton and his POV of the time Sadie was in Torc. Their relationship was intense. We also get a little view of how Ax and Logan interacted. The author has done an amazing job showing how these lives crisscrossed over the years.

I received a copy of this novella from the author for an honest review.
I had such mixed feelings about reading this book. I knew it would be great because all of Siobhan's books are, but I didn't want to develop any further feelings for Ax. I absolutely adore Sadie and Logan. I sympathize with Ax and I understand that his love for Sadie is true and strong, but he wants Sadie which means he needs to destroy their love. I am not a fan for that reason alone. Any backstory can only make me like him and interfere with my desire for him to disappear!

I was right and wrong. This glimpse into Ax and Ax with Sadie is exactly what I feared. It allows you to get to know exactly what Ax is thinking and feeling. And he is consumed by his love for Sadie. Worse, Sadie's love for him is all consuming as well. They are sweet together. I would root for them in a timeline where Sadie and Logan never met. But that's not the story I love. This is before Logan. Once Sadie and Logan meet, the universe is changed. This book didn't change my ultimate opinion of any of the characters.

Ax is still too weak for my taste. His love and need for approval from Griselda, his feelings of inadequacy and lack of worth as a son, leader, man are too much for me. I understand why he feels like he does, but I can't bring myself to embrace him. Griselda gets the award for worst mom/best villain. She is plain mean. Getting a look at Izzy and Blade was wonderful and heartbreaking. I understand Izzy more now which is another reason Siobhan's novellas are so wonderful. They are more than entertaining reads; they further the main story in ways you don't expect. Finally, something I normally don't do. I have to mention my favorite scene in the book. The scene between Logan and Ax at the Summit was simply brilliant. I was thrilled to be a part of their conversation.

Enjoyed this book despite myself and it made me even more eager for the next novel to be released. This is another must read.

Are you a (not so) secret Sadie/Axton shipper like I am? It feels naughty, doesn't it? Like you're not supposed to like him more than Logan. Like you're cheating on him. BUT Axton is just mesmerizing and your heart bleeds for him (except for when he's acting like a big jerk). This is the novel for you, Saxtons.
Opening up and showing the readers Sadie's Tor life and how she and Axton fell in love, The Heir and the Human is everything I hoped for - and more! It doesn't just reveal the depths of Sadie and Axton, but of the whole life Sadie had with the Tor. The friendships, the tension, the training, and at times the insanity - everything is revealed here and, if it doesn't make you ache just a little bit for every friend she ever had but didn't remember, I'm not sure what to do with you. I can't help but think back to my own life. What if the boyfriend I was crazy about went away one day, came back soon after, but didn't remember me? What if my best friend suddenly had no idea of our private jokes, our nights comforting each other through heart ache, or our favorite ice cream flavor because it turns your tongue blue?
Throughout the series, it has been difficult to remember that, to the Tor, Sadie was only gone for a short time instead of years. For them, it is all fresh and to her, it is as if nothing ever happened.
Well-written? YES! Concise but full; descriptive but not bogged down; staying true to what we know of Sadie's voice.
I know it's not "required", but I highly suggest reading this book. If you've checked out Siobhan Davis at Goodreads lately, you can see that the series already has 4 more books (including novellas) planned. You may also hear me giggling with anticipation to see what the future holds for my beloved Saxton. I'll constantly be holding out hope! (Sorry, Logan.)

As usual this novella was not a disappointment! I loved filling in the blanks about not only Ax and Sadie but other relationships as well! This is a very important part of Sadie's story!
