It features a strong, female hero and a compelling story appropriate for most ages.
Oh where to begin. These books have me so wordless. I have
never been so involved in a story-line...EVER!! I think I can honestly say these are my favorites in my life. I've been a major reader all my life but I honestly don't have the words to say how much I enjoy these books. Trysten is amazing, her AND her dragon. I'm so in awe of how this couple can write the way they do. I literally FEEL it in my heart. I probably don't even make sense at the moment as I literally just now finished book 2...I can not WAIT for 3..but...I don't want it to EVER end....thank you sooooo much for this story💗
This series just gets better with every book as Trysten keeps on being the courageous and rebellious woman she is. Prince Aymon has come to Aerona weyr to check out the report the king had received about a female dragoneer, and he rode his royal horde without showing their colours as though they were attacking. However Trysten was totally in control of her own horde and did not fall for his tricks. Aymon is arrogant and believes he has the right to ground Trysten and take away her role of responsibility, however Trysten knows her rights and stands by her promise to defend her village and its people. She never once backs down, even when challenged by the royal horde dragoneer who really hated her guts. She made a pact with the Prince that she would go willingly with him back to the city, but only after fighting season was over and if she is allowed to resume her responsibilities in full without interference. She did this with the intention of proving her worth to the Prince till that day came, and boy did she do this! Aymon was forced to see her worth through her actions which made her more than worthy to be the dragoneer as he realises that there is much more to Trysten then he expected. I love Trysten's stubborn streak, the fight she was fighting for all women in all the weyrs of the kingdom and I cannot wait to start reading book 3 of this very compulsive trilogy with such a strong heroine as the main character.
This book was pretty good, and I really like how Persistent Trystin is and how Paege is always ready to stick by her side no matter what. I think that the prince's changing from a pompous jerk who has no respect for Trystin because she's a Woman to Grudging respect, to a more kind respect is a little basic, because there is always a character who changes in a book. In Book 1 it was Mardoc, the Dragoneer and Trysten's Father. I appreciate the fact that Muzad went and challenged Trysten and Elevera, but it goes a little too far as Muzad tells his dragon to rake her claws under Elevera's underbelly, basically intending to kill. It is a great example of a man's hurt pride and how far he is willing to take it. So I think that his broken arm and probably dislocated shoulder is... appropriate. And through the whole book, it is shown that the whole horde is prejudiced against Trystin because she is a female.
Trystsen’s right to lead the dragonflight is still questioned, even after pulling off unquestionably daring events against odds much larger than her horde of dragons.
Working to keep her dragons in the air, her attempts at recruitment are met with derision. There’s that. There’s the Prince; a man who keeps secrets close to his vest, secrets she needs to know. There’s also two enemies coming; one familiar, the other with new, uncanny abilities.
This story is a whirlwind of plot whizzing past like arrows aimed at your head, combined with people who both yell a lot, and get under your skin so you care a lot.

I would just like to write a few lines to ask you to read this book. I normally don't like writing reviews, because I mostly talk about problems in books, (not that all of them are bad, but I always think they could do things differently). Yes, this one has a few problems, but I was so surprised by the quality of the book, the plot is fantastic, a female hero struggling to get what she believes in, just cool. I'll add the same review to all six books in the series if I like them as much as I loved this one.
This is a great series for young (and not so young) fantasy lovers! Characters are well developed, the storyline is both interesting and has intensity that draws the reader in. I love that I can recommend this series to middle grade students without worrying about age-inappropriate content, yet still challenge readers with thoughtful content about good/bad, right/wrong, and all the nuances of society and people.
Very engaging tale of dragons and those who bond with them. We have a forbidden female heroine, both outspoken and stubborn, but gifted beyond measure in her control of the dragons. Very well told, full of excitement, intrigue, adventure and promising much more in the books to come. I read books 1 through 3. I hope to get additional books when I can afford them.
The Prince comes to take her Dragons away. He won't listen to a word she says. When the Northerners come, she will show just who the Dragoneer is. She will save her village. She will save them all. This second book will keep you turning the pages. I couldn't put it down.
What a wonderful accounting the ageless story of which gender is expected or best qualified for the job. Then add to that, which realm of society should have control of the power to do the job. So glad I've found great fantasy authors to follow.
The thing I dislike The Most, the cliffhanger! These books are ending with the hint of what is to come. If I didn’t love these characters and their dragons I would quit reading for That Alone! At least they are free with kindle unlimited!
Once I started I couldn’t wait to finish it. From start to finish, it’s such a great read. The bond Trystan shares with not only her dragon but all the other dragons around weyn is something else. Love this series and can’t wait to start the third book
This was the usual dragoneer story I love, it wasn’t the usual battle scene in the story. Those I usually skim through not being a fan of war story battle scenes, but this one was a different, save the prince and prepare for war which kept me reading.
Well things are hotting up and I was on the edge of my seat thro a lot of this book it was great, fantastic characters super storyline a very well deserved 5 stars
