This is a solid sci-fi survival novel taking place on an unnamed planet. Good character development meets a fast moving and interesting plot. The setting is a desert planet which makes most of us think of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Be that as it may, Windswept, the follow up to Sandstorm is sufficiently if not refreshingly different.
As expected, things come to a head with the giant sand worm 🐛, that looks suspiciously like it was imported straight from that iconic planet of 70s fiction called Dune. The author finishes off with an intriguing ending which makes you wonder what role the story’s antagonist will play in the next book of the series.

I am disappointed in the idiocy of the people in this book. The adults act like 5 year olds and there are only a couple of people who don’t want to lie down in a cave and be taken care of. The 10 year old has more guts that any of the survivors except Neena, Darius and Kai.

The story is good, I wish the characters were less irritating

Plus Gideon🙄

Yep, definitely a no thrills or frills type of survival book series. Still have issues as to what the author was thinking when he picked this particular setting for a dystopian survival story.

Descendants of a future human race, capable of FTL or magical spore drive technology, left on a planet with only sticks and old tech to fend for themselves. No chemical weapons, no plasma rifles, heck no solar panels or nuclear batteries, and above all, absolutely NO data or hand guides. No military or corporate entity are going to send people to a remote site to work without at least an SOP and EH hand book Incase of an accident.

And why spear and not bows and arrows? If you going to make people forget thousands of years of knowledge on how to defend and hunt, might as well make them throw rocks at one another, and bang bones into the ground.

That said, I'm committed to see where this hot mess leads. The survival part of the tale and Hunan interactions is not that bad. It's not great, but it's keeping me entertained enough.

Sandstorm..

After reading the first book I didn't think this one was better, but it is!
Kai & Neena have been locked up by the elders. Kai because he doesn't belong there, Neena has been accused of lying . No one will listen.
Raj is finally recovering. Samuel & Helgid have been tasked with his recovery.
The abomination is out there & will make his appearance in a big way.
I've really enjoyed these books. Great storyline, good characters & lots of action ! Will be waiting for the next....😁

Good story

This imagined world has everything. Good, hard-working people, savage bullies, clueless leaders and a small band of heros fighting against a horrible moster. I am looking g forward to the next story.

Five stars but.

A little slow in parts , but interesting characters and a good plot.
There are a few typos , but not enough to distract from the story .
Worth reading if you're a fan of the author or of dystopian fiction.

It’s a slow burn kind of story but I do like it, and this second one left off with me wanting the next one.
It reminds me of what the group of people in Dune would have been experiencing when they first encountered the sandworms.

Curious

I enjoyed this book. Glad to see how the story is starting to come together now and of course the leaders knew of the abomination. Therefore fear got them all killed.

Good story

Not deep but fast paced. Somewhat of a mashup of other 'other' world themed series. I'll read book three and see if it's better

The 2nd book in the series picks up where Sandstorm left off, the action picked up its pace as the colonist had their first visit by the sandworm with devastating results.

I have the box set of this series so will just say that book two is action-packed with a good sense of place and enough various characters to make it interesting.

Recommended.
