Science fiction excitement

Andy McKell nicely balances character interaction with exciting plot. Earth is degrading and ten powerful people plan to survive by building ships that will take them to an Earthlike planet, they name New Eden, to start over.

The ships are built, but one ship, the Challenger, stays behind, promising to catch up. But desperate people do desperate things and a secret takeover of the ship is attempted by those trying to flee a toxic Earth.

More obstacles and conflict confound the ship so when it finally enters the Paridisi System, it is one hundred fifty years later than originally expected, and the welcoming committee is alarming.

Within this story are intertwining personalities with complicated backstories, each with a different agenda.

Which all makes for an exciting read.

A riveting follow up to Faces of Janus. Again it follows the same timeline as another Paradisi novel from an alternative point of view. There are overlaps but it still feels very different and exciting. It keeps you wanting more.
