"Maybe some things are meant to be kept in our hearts." "Then I guess I'll be keepin' ya there forever."
Malachy Shevlin, pub owner and thirty-nine year old orphan, believed he was destined to wander through life alone. Just a man and his canine companion, Padraig.
Until unexpected news has him leaving behind his home in Dublin and hopping on a plane to America. When Malachy suddenly finds himself with a woman he didn't know he wanted and a family he never knew he had, he begins to feel something he didn't think possible. Hope.
But is it too late for the grumpy Irishman to have everything he's ever desired?
When I was a wee lassie, I was told by my preschool teachers that I was a natural at storytelling. When I was just a little older than that, an old friend's mother said to me, "Kelsey, one day your books are going to be on the shelves at the library."
Well, Diane, I don't know if my books are ever going to be on the shelves of libraries, but I'm sure as hell going to try.
When I'm not writing stories destined to be bestsellers, I enjoy devouring TV shows, listening to every type of music there is and going to concerts, reading pretty much anything (with a soft spot for romance and certain books located in 18th century Scotland), obsessing over makeup, and pretending to workout.
I also have a fondness for cats, my family, tattoos, and a really good French fry.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I absolutely loved everything about this book. What an amazing story of Malachy and Emma! From their meeting and all the way until The End, it had me engaged and addicted. I could not get enough, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
IF YOU'RE SCARED OF SPOILERS - do not read my review - I'm not spoiling the story, but I AM telling you who the hero of this book is - which is supposed to be a secret ;)
YES! We're back with the Kinney clan in Connecticut.
Whose story is this, you might ask? Haven't all brothers found their happily ever afters?
They did. BUT ... there might be a surprise brother from Ireland coming along.
And he might meet a divorced mom of two on the plane! ☺
It was such an adorable and heartbreaking story.
Poor Malachy - he's been so alone these last years in Dublin. He has no one. Only his adorable dog.
And now he has a new insta family. Too cute. He's just not sure if he can trust all this perfectness in the form of his new brothers and 'parents'. Poor guy. But the Kinneys are so amazing with him - especially Helen - who could be mad about the whole situation - but she's perfect!
Of course we also have to get that happily ever after for Mal and Emma. Might not be easy!
But we enjoy every moment of Malachy's adventure!
Another amazingly beautiful book in this series. Adorable, funny, sparky, moving, sweet. I loved it!
The only thing that's always bothering me a bit is the overuse of EHMs ... by all characters. I would be ok with only one person using it ... but they all do. It could be an UHM once or a HM, no idea, but EHM sounds weird. ☺ BUT I STILL LOVED THE STORY! Can't wait to see what's next from KK!
Also - I LOVED the cameos by our darlings Devin & Kylie! ♥
So... surprise! Double surprise actually and I’ll just say it’s a surprise without saying why because I am not allowed to do say... but I am allowed to say why it’s double: cause I had no idea I would love this book and Malachy soooo much, but I did, so hard and I wasn’t expecting it.
Typically I am not much of a fan of books with characters in their 40s (unless it’s an age-gap romance) but Malachy oh wow, he completely won me over from the very first instance. And I loved all his sides... broody, scared, emotional, sweet. i melted over this guy. And his emotions had ME emotional; a 40 year old man that acted like a little kid with sometimes when it came to his emotions, how does that not affect you?! His loneliness spoke to me too and I must confess that he brought me to tears in his own moments of emotion and contemplation.
I also really liked Emma and I loved her journey and how her life interconnected with Malachy, it was pretty perfect. And so were they as a couple, from their meet cute (yes I considered it one) to everything else. But I think what I liked most of all was how his new-found family accepted him and how they all clicked from the moment they met. This family is wonderful and they gave me great joy; I loved the teasing and support among them, it was like they hadn’t just met but had known each other for years. It was remarkable and touching. And it was just amazing to get to see these characters again in all their glory.
I was also very happy when I realized who Devin and Kylie were because it might have took me a minute but then had me smiling like an idiot... I had missed them. Basically this book was a complete joy for me; the romance was super sweet, the family plot was very touching and sometimes right down emotional and you almost get to see every single one of Kelsey’s characters ( at least the one’s I’ve met).

While reading the books in the Kinney Brothers series, there are certain things you get used to. Sweet Irish men with an accent, stubborn characters, amazing romance, a family you want to be your own and a smile on your face. Hope to Fall definitely checked off all the things on that list. In Hope to Fall we get Malachy, who hasn't had the easiest life, but really just wants love, but doesn't know how to accept it. He's been on his own for awhile, so when his life gets turned upside down, it's not what he's expecting and he doesn't even dare to hope. Emma was a fun character as well. Keeping Malachy calm on the plane was so cute, who knew they would end up running into eachother? Hope to Fall is filled with love, humor, learning to accept yourself and those who want to love you and family. Sometimes you find it in places you least expect. On top of that we get a cameo from another one of Kelsey's books and more Kinneys. I have come to love all these characters and can't get enough! I don't have to hope to fall, because I definitely did for this book!
Well, that makes four Kingsley books in a row that wrung a few tears out of me. Of course, they're always happy and/or sentimental, my-heart-is-full-to-overflowing tears and I can't get enough. Kingsley is a masterful storyteller.
Don't want to give away anything about the story, but let me say Malachy's story was quite unexpected and yet, when I came to the end of it, it seemed so obvious, so natural.
Absolutely recommend this book, this series, this author.
I highly recommend reading the first three Kinney books before reading Hope To Fall. Spoilers are ahead if you haven’t.
A surprise book for my favorite Irish family from one Kelsey Kingsley? Yes please!
A meaty prologue sets up the premise of the lost brother who no one (not even the parent) knew about. What will the fourth Kinney brother be like? Will he want to be a part of the family?
We meet Malachy Shevlin as he embarks on the long flight from Dublin to meet the man he never knew existed—his biological father. Mal’s mom, who recently passed away, kept his parentage from both Mal and his father. It’s a real surprise for everyone involved, but Malachy hops a plane with the only family he has left, his dog Padraig. Lucky for him, his seatmate is Emma Bryan, lifestyle blogger and frequent traveler. She helps Mal get through the flight and refuses to take any of his grumpy nonsense. They part ways at the airport when Mal’s family arrives to take him home.
Mal is a lonely pub owner, built from an unstable upbringing and being orphaned at 40. He is overwhelmed by the instant family, who is huge, loud, and more than he knows what to do with. We get to visit Kylie’s (from Daisies and Devin) coffee shop, where Mal and Emma are reunited during his break from the new family crush. As they navigate their own families and a budding relationship, we get to see how the two make sense of their connection. Will Mal stay with his newfound family? How does Emma manage the perfection she creates in her blog versus the reality of a messy divorce and two daughters?
Hope To Fall is a sweet book, funny, and family is so important to the story. It shows how family can look different and sound different, and not even be blood, but at its core family is love and support. I love how Kingsley effortlessly reintroduces the beloved characters from her earlier books. It could be cheesy or forced, but it is well done.
Kelsey Kingsley does an exceptional job creating Helen’s character. She is the type of mom every child, regardless of age, wishes to have. She is the star of this book for me. I wish that we had the same level of development with Collin, Mal’s father. I was a little let down with how the character barely appeared in the book, although his presence is the reason for Mal’s trip to the US.
I look forward to seeing what Kingsley writes next!
I'm obsessed with the way Kelsey's characters fall in love and Hope to Fall is no different. Malachy Shevlin, a pub owner from Ireland meets Emma Bryan a lifestyle/ food blogger on a flight back to the states.
"Because Malachy Shevlin was beautiful, with his fiery hair and soul, and I knew that it was only he who could calm my soul in this way, and make me feel perfect without trying."
Malachy is a loner. An orphan. He's use to a quiet life with just him and his dog Padraig. Coming to America he hopes to connect to his family he didn't realize he had. Coming into this warm, beautiful and loud family where he can see himself in others faces is overwhelming and exciting.
“Have I told ya how beautiful ya are, m’darlin’?“About three hundred times,” I whispered, smiling as I stroked my fingers through his hair. “Ah, so not enough,” he said, and kissed the tip of my nose. “Would ya believe me if I said you’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen?”“No,” I said, shaking my head. “But I want to.” “Well, ya should believe it, because if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s a liar. Do ya believe that?”
Malachy bumps into Emma at a cafe in town, she's there to take pictures and do a review for her blog. They both hadn't stopped thinking about each other since their flight. They catch up with each other and there's definitely a strong pull towards each other. Emma's life is picture perfect on the outside. She wants it to fit her image she post online but things aren't always as they seem.
Hope to Fall is an honest and real look at life, family, and love. Malachy is unforgettable and dreamy. He and will make you sigh and swoon. And if this is your first time meeting the Kinney family you're in for an amazing ride!
“I didn’t think it’d ever be possible for one woman to be any more beautiful than the rest, but ya had to go ahead and prove me wrong,” he said, never allowing his gaze to leave mine. “I’m ruined now, ya realize.”“Ruined?” I laughed nervously, smiling and trying so hard not to cry again. Once was enough, thank you very much. “Yes, ruined!”
Oh......My!!!!!!! When I finished Last Chance to Fall (Kinney #3, Sean) , I wanted more from these men.....when Hope to Fall showed up on my nook, I dived right in because....hello......more of the KINNEY men!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
I will start with this......Ms. Kingsley is now my unicorn author....she has helped me add so many BBF’s to my harem that I am one happy reader 😉
Hope to Fall is just that.....Malachy and Emma’s story of hope. The depth of the story drew me in from page 1. The interaction/attraction between Mal and Emma will reach into your chest and make your heart smile.
I had the roller coaster of emotions: humor, anger (I wanted to reach through the pages and rattle some heads), tears (there was a point in the book that I just had to stop, lay the nook down and just cry) and love. Plus, we get the Kinney family!!!!!
This entire series is a MUST read for anyone who is looking for a story with true emotions written by an author who understands what her readers want.
When I read that there would be another book where the Kinney's were involved I was ecstatic. This story will touch into the deepest part of your soul and make you weep, smile, laugh, and root for Malachy and Emma.
This is Malachy Shevlin’s story. He’s a bartender from Dublin with a fabulous dog. I don’t want to give anything away so it’s a little difficult to write. What you will get from this book is many tender and gut wrenching moments, a lot of laughs, some uncomfortable situations, the Irish wit and life changing decisions that have to be made.
The story is filled with lots of love. What I admire about this authors writing is that she takes very real believable situations and weaves them in a beautiful story. She paints images with her words that you feel like you can smell the sod, hear the brogue and feel the love. Seriously, the whole time I read this book it was with an Irish accent. I had more trouble going back to read the American parts without converting to the brogue.
Malachy is referred to as grumpy and a ginger. I don’t see him that way. Of course I see him as a ginger, it’s the grumpy part I’m referring to. Not everyone wears their heart on their sleeve and some people are just more introverted. Life situations and the way you are raised can have a definite effect on how your personality develops. That being said people do change when the opportunity arises? While reading this story you get to see that change take place. You get to see the somewhat metamorphosis take place. You will cry in the beginning of this story as well as towards the end. You may tear up in the middle. Don’t worry there are also a lot of smiles and laughs. It is the Irish wit remember. The Irish have a twinkle in their eye and the devil in their smile.
Enter Emma Bryan, the food blogger, who is described as a bit neurotic. As I stated previously, life can mold us into ways we never visualized. Think back, are you the exact same person you were ten, twenty however many years ago? I’m not. Life doesn’t always work out the way we planned. There’s two sayings that always seem accurate to me, “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans” and “Life can change on a dime”. In this case that’s what happened for these two individuals. Watching them evolve though is so beautiful. They’re both scared and rightfully so. Too, they get the sense that even though they say they’re not going to get attached they don’t believe it. Yeah, we all lie to ourselves.
Happily we get to meet up again with the whole Kinney clan as well as get to touch base with the Devin and Daisies group. This is family you want to hang out with. One of the most touching parts of this part was how we really get to see Collin and Helen in ways we weren’t privy to before. There are two pivotal moments in their part of the story that had me an emotional wreck. You can feel Malachy’s emotions as though it were your own. The author is a master at drawing you in and making you feel what is happening at that moment. She also creates moments in her stories where you want to become friends with all her characters.
Believe me I want to discuss this story in detail but I have a firm no spoiler policy. It’s no fair to the author. So I’ll just be sayin’ to ya, read this book. ‘Tis a grand story to be sure. You won’t be regrettin’ it. You may even be thinkin’ that a little bit of the pot o’gold dropped right into yer hands. Once you start to read with the brogue it’ll be hard to stop! But it’ll all be worth it. It’s a fast read because you won’t want to stop. So do yourself a favor and read this story. You deserve it!
Just when you think that the Kinney family stories are over comes a big surprise! His name is Malachy Shevlin. He's a 40 year old bar owner from Dublin and he is coming to America to meet our beloved Kinney's. If you have not read the Kinney brother series yet, I recommend starting at the beginning with One Night to Fall. Each story stands alone but is told in running order. You will get to know all the Kinney brothers and they will be a big part of Malachy's story. This is Malachy's first flight and to say that he's not enjoying it is an understatement. His seat mate is Emma Bryan, American, food/lifestyle blogger and not very happy to be sitting next to an grumpy though attractive Irishman. She fears that he may toss his cookies all over her lap! Well they arrive at their Connecticut destination safely much to Malachy's surprise. Now this is the moment where these two part expecting to never see each other again but destiny has a plan for them! This story is Malachy's journey to get answers, find out his hidden desires and maybe even take a chance to grab the brass ring! So he along with his dog Padraig will be spending time getting to know River Canyon and it's residents while Emma is on her own journey that will lead to an intersection with his. As you've probably realized my review is rather vague. It has to be. This story is a huge surprise to Kinney fans and they are going to be thrilled! It's told from dual POV and you are going to experience every emotion imaginable and love every second of it. Hope to Fall is a triumph and if you love great small town romance you should be reading Kelsey Kingsley's books!
I will straight up tell you that I haven’t read the previous Kinney books. Despite this, I didn’t feel like I was lacking storyline, however, if you have the opportunity, I would read the first three books. It will just enrich the overall experience. Yes, I’ve since started the series, because I loved this book so much.
Hope I Fall is a secret book, as all Kinney brothers have already had a book written about them. So, who is this about? Let me just tell you it’s about Malachy, Emma and his Irish Wolfhound, Padraig. Mal is a forty-year-old Irish pub owner. He has no family anymore and is feeling quite alone. His closest mate is Padraig. I realize he is a dog, but the interaction between Mal and Padraig was loving, enduring and at times, downright funny. Despite owning a pub, Malachy is used to his solitary lifestyle. This is all thrown upside down with some recent information.
Emma is a divorced mother of two. She is a lifestyle and travel blogger, which is how she meets Mal. Emma displays the picture-perfect life through her blog, but in reality, her life is in shambles. When she meets Malachy, there is something different about him, that causes him to linger in her mind.
Hope I Fall is a funny, emotionally full, sweet and enduring book. Kelsey Kingsley did a wonderful job of melding stories and writing down to earth and true to nature characters.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to write this review and do this book justice.
This latest chapter in the Kinney Brothers series introduces Malachy Shevlin to the rest of the Kinney clan.
On his flight over from Ireland to River Canyon, Connecticut , he meets food slash lifestyle blogger Emma Bryan. A further random meeting sparks a chance of being more than friends.
Malachy is just the most charming Irishman yet. I’m aware that I’ve said that about each of the brothers, but Mal takes the prize. He’s vulnerable, wanting to show that he cares but unsure of how to let people in. When he tries, though, he succeeds in melting hearts everywhere.
Seeing Mal’s transition from awkward loner to a member of the Kinney family is a sweet, endearing read. I think I had a smile on my face all the way through, except when I was sniffling and crying emotional tears. This book really packs in all the feels.
I finished the book thoroughly satisfied and with a full heart. I really hope that this isn’t the last we’ve heard from this glorious Irish-American family.
A swoon worthy read!! K. Kingsley has done it again! Her words have the power to make you fall in love.
The Kinney brothers have had a place in my heart since book one! I'm enamored with this clan of Irish men and their strong ladies. They have the heart of gold!
Now the author wants to keep Hope to Fall as much as a surprise as it was for me to you. So though my review maybe vague just know you don't want to miss this one!
"The only perfect people, ... are the ones who feel nothin’. Ya don’t wanna be that person. Those are ugly people, and you are way too beautiful to be ugly.”
My favorite Irish family is back! I swear I adore this series so much. And now Kelsey Kingsley goes and gives me Malachy? Um... yes, please! Actually, all the Kinney Brothers are all the yeses! They are why we love boys in books! Plus I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it always; Kingsley has a way with words that will melt your heart and make you smile like you have a hanger stuck in your mouth. Her writing will grab you at page 1 and leave you wanting more every-single-time. If you haven’t read any of the Kinney Brothers yet, I HIGHLY recommend you start now. Just keep in mind, Malachy Shevlin and his humongous adorable dog, Palraid are both mine. *wink
Oh, wow. Malachy Shevlin was a treat. I truly felt the bleakness of his life as he realized it also. His mom had just died and had shared during her illness that who he thought was his dad was not. Then he does a DNA test and his American half brother matches up to him. Malachy leaves Ireland to meet his American family. He meets an attractive woman while on the plane across the Atlantic. Once in Connecticut he meets his family. This is utter culture shock as well as family shock. He runs into Emma while out and about in the small town.
What a delightful read. It was fun to feel all the loving aspects of a large Irish family and the love of a good woman.
You see,.Kelsey keeps.doing herself an injustice and she sets the bar even higher with each book she writes. First, I love her style of writing. It's fresh, new, coo, edgy, gives us what we want and doesn't add extra nonsense. Secondly, I FLOVE the Kinneys...they are probably my favorite brother series. The way Mal is joined and intertwined in the family is so organic and natural of the Kinneys. The focus is on the boys...they hold the hearts of the family for me and Mal did not disappoint. I fell for him immediately. He made me laugh, grieve, encourage, and cry. He was the addition to the family we didn't know had been missing this whole time...both literally and poetically. I loved this book so hard and can't wait to continue on this journey with this family.
Hope to Fall is the 4th book in the Kinney Brothers series. I really appreciated the juxtaposition of the outlook on life held by the two main characters. We meet Malachy, alone in the world, the brother the Kinney family didn’t know existed. Emma is the woman so relatable today, living her life in the eye of social media. She strives for a perfection or image of perfection, impossible to obtain. I completely enjoyed watching Malachy’s heart grow. He learns to embrace the family and Emma who are all perfection to him. While Emma breaks the chains of perfection she has bound herself in. She finds love and grace in the messiness of unplanned living. I’ve throughly enjoyed all four of the Kinney Brothers series. I love the emotional growth the characters experience through their mistakes and imperfections.
A-MAZ-ING!!! I really wasn't sure how receptive I was going to be to Malachy's story but Kelsey Kingsley, being the great storyteller she is, blew it out of the park! Malachy has become my favorite brother. <> This is a heartfelt story that goes beyond just being a love story between Malachy and Emma. Everyone in the Kinney clan has had their world turned upside down but they handle it in the best possible way, even if it's not easy. This was SUCH a great read!
Malachy and Emma met on a plane from Ireland to the United States and he told her he was meeting his family that he just found out about. While getting to know his family the Kinneys he keeps running into Emma and there definitely a spark. But he has to go back to Ireland or does he ? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book
Absolutely loved this book! Read it start to finish in one sitting. Kelsey writes with humor, feelings and you can’t help but get lost in her words. I loved this couple. The connection was sigh worthy. It’s what makes romance.
I absolutely loved this book! The Kinney family is spectacular! Mal’s story has so much emotion and depth! Plus it’s always good catching up with the others!
Read this book and the Kinney Brothers series! You’re in for a real treat!
The author has a way of making you feel you’re part of the story. So, feeling like I’m one of the Kinneys, I can’t wait to see what happens to “us” next!
Each of these men were raised by loving and caring parents.
Malachy, the son who was hidden from his father for 40 years is found by his step brother. He has lost the only family he's ever known to death and decided to check out the people who are claiming to be his.
So on a plane ride from Ireland with his Irish wolf hound he meets Emma, a divorcee, mother of two, and style/good blogger. He's grumpy and nervous about the plane ride and she distracts him by getting him to talk about himself. They part ways, but soon discover each other in a little coffee shop, where she is doing a review.
As Malachy gets to know his family, he also gets to know this woman and her children.
He never thought of himself as a relationship kind of guy. He was raised to be a loner. Even his own mother never committed in a relationship even though she had an open relationship with a man she allowed him to believe was his father.
Emma, feels that she needs to be a perfectionist. She was never good enough so she has worked very hard to appear to everyone that she is do put together. With the help of Malachy, she is able to work through this.
Malachy, is super sensitive and finds out that he's a natural with children. He is finding that he feels more at home and loved here then he every has. Even his stepmom considers him her son. It's such a beautiful exchange of love and acceptances.
My favorite lines are...
"Absorbing all those little pieces of her, as I looked down at her angelic face, wondering where she went when she slept as the corners of her mother twitched into a smile."
"I didn't think it'd ever be possible for one woman to be any more beautiful than the rest, but ya had to go and prove me wrong... I'm ruined now you realize." You completely wreck me m'darlin'.
Beautiful creative writing piece by Kelsey Kingsley. The whole series will suck you in.
One of my favorite book series continues on, with its latest installment proving that the best things come in fours! Malachy’s story was a bit of a surprise, eloquently written and masterfully portrayed. Given his past experiences and what he ends up finding when he reaches America, it was written honestly, no over-the-top overly emotional or melodramatic moments. His reactions and emotions fit perfectly into his character, which made me feel closer to him and want to know more about his story.
Kingsley has a lovely way of creating characters who have flaws you fall in love with. Malachy is all thought, little emotion. He doesn’t want to become invested into anything that equates to an attachment, a defense mechanism he’s cultivated since childhood. You feel for him, yet you yearn for him to grow out of who he is, and the best thing of all? We get to see that, as a reader. But, there are plenty of highs and lows while he’s working on identifying who he really is, where he comes from, and whether forming connections is really worth it, or not.
There is a love story here, not only in the romantic sense, but in the familial sense, too. Having come from a past where I’m not on the best of terms with some of my own family members, living or not, it was a relatable experience, making it easy for me to understand the walls that Malachy has built up around his life, his heart. This makes it harder for him to come terms with his future, and where he ultimately belongs.
I enjoyed Malachy, the romance that blooms in his life, the unexpected shift in his world, one he never saw coming. I also appreciated getting to catch up with so many of my favorite characters from the other books in this series, even Daisies and Devin makes an appearance or two. Malachy is a much-needed voice in the town of River Canyon, the missing puzzle piece that makes the picture whole.
