Halfborn

It should have been simple. Easy. She had done it a thousand times. A flick of the pocketknife. A slice from the blade. A trickle of hot blood on her tongue. Filling her mouth. That is how it should have been. Instinctually, it was both . . . Oh, so simple as she pounced on the man across the room from her . . . and unbelievably easy as her teeth sliced into the side of his neck. But it was different. Animalistic. And that bite would change Coral’s life . . . Forever. Halfborn is for mature readers only. It contains violent and sexual content. These are not vamps for the kiddos. They bite, kill, and do very adult and monstrous things.

Psst, got a secret for ya...
I... Love... Vampires...
Okay, so, it's not really a secret. Show me a vampire book and I will read it. I'm a simple girl, with simple needs.
Halfborn was a great, fun, intense read. At first I was convinced I wasn't going to enjoy it, from the simplicity of what I *thought* the story was going to be in the first chapter, but by chapter two the story did a 180 on me, and I pounced, much like Coral pounced.
Fun times.
And, just to add... That first chapter. That ending... Ohhhh, my emotional turmoil-loving heart did love that, while hating Daniels a little for making me feel the feels.
Damn you.
And on a more serious note, the writing was most excellent. I don't say that lightly, because the craft of writing seems to have become something writers have just tossed out the window in favour of eye catching phrases and nonsense lately.
All in all, very enjoyable read. And when funds allow, there shall be more!

Coral is a lone vampire, luring unsuspecting victims home where she does her dirty work. But when she begins to bite someone, her ordinary ritual turns into something else… The two develop a sort of bond. But they are not the only ones. The author has created a hidden world of various types of vampire-like beings. They play with our emotions and our minds so we can’t help but wonder what twists are in store for us. Great read!

A Confrontation with Guilt
Coral hides. Her occupation is staying away from people — unless her needs force her hand. That’s when she seeks society, knowing that she must clean up afterwards. Money isn’t a problem, but her cravings are. Mostly she is in control and does only what is necessary. Enter Marshall Kevin O’Neal, and Coral’s life changes forever. She loses control for the first time in her life and there’s no way back — neither for her nor for him. His suffering makes her aware that there are questions to answer. The only problem is that she doesn’t know where to find the necessary knowledge.
From then on Coral’s life becomes one long trip. She must tackle her guilt, although she has no idea of the reasons behind her action. She and Marshall go on the road, to escape the consequences of their actions and to find out what they’ve become.
This is strong meat and an unusual twist on vampire mythology. Daniels presents an allegory that shows how lack of knowledge can pull people out of their comfort zone. Bonded in their lust and guilt, Coral and Marshall must learn who they are or face the consequences.
The characters are believable and engaging, but more than that, their troubled journey creates a brooding backdrop for the conflict they face.

A Page-turning Gritty Vampire Story

If you are looking for a vampire story without sparkling vamps and teenage crushes, then you will love Halfborn. Coral doesn’t know what she is, and when she brings home a guy for a one-night stand, neither one of them are prepared for the outcome. This story is gritty horror with a plot that shows depth of character as Coral tries to discover who and what she is and bears the consequences of her actions. This book is not for the faint of heart but those who love true horror.

“What? No. Vampires are just a myth, aren’t they?”

Coral has craved blood since she could remember and has getting it down to a science: find subject, cut them, drink, and send them on their way, hopefully none the wiser. Down to a science...until she brings home Marshall and her plans go out the door. Losing control, she bites him, beginning a process she never dreamed existed. Marshall becomes a creative she never knew was possible, a vampire.

Bonded together, Coral and Marshall seek out the truth behind what both of them are, sometimes loving one another and other times hating one another.

This is a gritty, dark tale. Daniels created her own unique vampire mythology, and it reads like a beautiful Greek tragedy. I definitely look forward to more from her world.

Halfborn awesome read. At times I felt like I had been to some of these places. Coral pulls you into her world in a way that you can't stop reading. Always have enjoyed stories about vampires. Ms.Daniels brought Coral to life from different angle. Enjoyed reading looking forward to the next installment.

Absorbing dark tale

This book drew me in straight away. Characters are credible and fallible. The mystery surrounding them is compelling and intriguing. The author gets exactly the right balance of dialogue, action and introspection. A thrilling read that leaves the reader longing for the next instalment.

Halfborn is about Coral, who is a vampire. She dreams about a man and not the one she changed. Most of the time, I couldn’t figure out where this story was going. Which, sometimes, is a good thing, but where it ended up left me empty. The overdone sex scenes were uncomfortable to watch, and that’s saying a lot. Since I have the habit of not putting a book down until it’s done, I reached the end.
