Jasmine

I’m broken.
Damaged goods, if you will.
I’ve tried to escape my past, but it leaves me exhausted—wanting to end it all, because there’s nothing left for me.
Until him.
Until he comes home and sparks something inside of me I thought had been ripped away from me.
He’s my best friend’s brother, and there’s a line we shouldn’t cross, no matter how much his touch heals my broken parts.

Angel

I was finally home, hoping to escape the guilt and nightmares that clung to my skin—but one look in her sad brown eyes tells me the ghosts of my failures aren’t as far away as I hoped.
She’s the one thing my messed-up mind clings to, and I know I shouldn’t cross that line with her, but the solace I find in her arms is too tempting to resist.

Angsty. Angsty. Angst.

This is a well written story told from the POV's of four different characters. These characters are trying to figure out their relationships with one another, and how to deal with the ups and downs of their pasts and presents. Anyone who enjoys angsty stories with a "will they won't they" vibe, will definitely enjoy this.

I honestly had a very hard time getting into it, but it is all about preference. I just didn't like the voice of one of the characters. It reminded me of someone a know, and it just got on my nerves a bit. That is 100% personal though.

The ending is definitely a TO BE CONTINUED, but book two is out so there's no need to wait!

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks is a great romance story that was full of emotions that are at times stifling. There is angst and fear, hurt and love, fragility and vulnerability, horror and sadness as we watch our characters reflect on the past and how it is affecting them now. The heartache and pain these characters are going through broke my heart. These two young people had been through so much in their short lives that they are so broken and realise just how much they need each other to heal. This story is told in multiple POV’s which gives us a better look at these complex yet simplistic loving young people. Nicole has done a wonderful job in taking us on this journey and has portrayed them will real feelings that make you want to take them in and hug them. Everything they feel, you feel right along with them. I also loved the banter that went on amongst this group of friends which often had me laughing along with them. Then we feel the tension and the explosive sizzle between Angel and Jas that jumps right of the page.

Jas is a former shell of herself since she went through something so horrible that it broke her and she doesn’t know how to fight her way back. The one person she needed was not there when she needed him, wasn’t there to protect her, wasn’t there to love her. But now he is back and can he be the one she needs? Can he be the one to love her and help her find her true self once again?

Angel is good at walking away and now he finds out that the one person he came home for is dealing with something that has left her broken. He so desperately wants to help her but doesnt know how and doesn’t know how to help himself. Can he truly be the man that she needs? Will he learn her secret?

I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down. This is a great start to the series. When I got to the end of the book I wanted to slap Nicole because I need to know who, I need to know what happens and I was left hanging. Well played Ms Banks. I need the follow on book NOW!

Review originally posted it in http://sandrathebookworm.blogspot.com...

The author was kind enough to send me the book in exchange for an honest review. This book was amazing! I can't believe it's a debut novel. I loved Angel and Jasmine so much; even if they are a little bit stubborn about their relationship.

Angel just came back from the marines with some guilt that is eating him away, but as soon as he sees Jasmine the demons seem to stay at bay and he almost feels like his old self. In the time Angel was away life has knocked Jasmine down a few time and she hasn't been able to get back up.

This story was very unique. This book kept me up to the wee hours of the night, but I just couldn't put it down; I had to know what was going to happen between Angel and Jasmine. Also this book is told in various perspectives so, that also had part in keeping me up all night; since I wanted to find out what happened between the rest of the characters in the book. This book had me laughing, crying, angry and swooning over all the hot guys. The book ended with the perfect cliffhanger that leaves you craving the second book. I did find Angel to be a little possessive towards Jasmine, but Jasmine is not the kind of girl to take crap so, it all evens out. I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad the author contacted me. I'm currently reading the second one so I will have the review up soon.

*****ARC ~ FOR AN HONEST REVIEW, Thank you Nicole *****
2.75 STARS

First I must say that I truly did enjoy the storyline, of course very realistic. What I could not handle was the back and forth, push and pull, it's you this time it's me next time, I swear I felt like I was in jr high playing tug of war on field day. It was so repetitious, I almost gave up.

This story is about Angel and Jasmine whom have known each other since they were younger, Angel was a friend of her brother Jay who met tragedy at a young age. The two always had a closeness, especially when Jasmine was young, Angel being four years older always looked after her like a big brother but years later after serving time as a Marine Angel returned home and came to accept there was much more between the two of them but there was the bro code to uphold.

Upon returning, Angel notices something has changed with "little Jas"
besides the fact she has grown to be a beautiful woman, her personality is different. Something has happened to her while Angel was away, he had made a promise to always take care of Jas but he failed her, and it was time to get to the bottom of what happened to her.

I felt this was a lot longer than it had to be, I don't understand why this relationship had to bounce back and forth so much.

Let's meet our two scrappers:

ANGEL

JASMINE

[image error] photo 0f057f9a-e846-433c-99e7-a18146ba6cf5_zpsq7rgoeqp.jpg

Don't get me wrong, I love a female who has some backbone, who loves to knock around a punching bag at the gym, but I can't handle a female saying "dude", I just can't, so that bothered me ALOT.

I must say, I'm sure I don't use proper grammar all the time, hell, not even half the time so naturally being human I honestly don't mind mistakes by authors, I just feel there was way too much here.

I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a nice story, however I feel like parts were missing. I know there is a second book coming out, but I base my reviews on the individual book, not the series. Unfortunately, there just wasn't enough "glue" to hold or pull the story together, in my opinion.

Four years ago, Jasmine' s world was flipped upside down. Her brother is dead and her brother's best friend, who she grew up with, ran off to join the Marines, but that's not all she lost. She also lost a big part of herself; her innocence. She still has her lifelong best friend, Kris, but their relationship is nothing like it used to be.

Angel has been overseas in Afghanistan and hasn't been home since he buried his best friend. He is slowly suffocating with guilt and has never felt like less of a man than he does today.

Though Angel and Jas have stayed in contact over the years, they never shared the demons that they have carried with them. That all changes when he finally comes home. He sees Jasmine in a different light; no longer his best friend's little sister. But a promise and his past hold him back from going after what he wants.

The way this was written was kind of confusing. Each chapter is from a different point of view. It switches between multiple characters throughout the story. I understand why the author did it that way, but I don't see why it was necessary.

I also don't think there was enough character development. How did Jay die? It was never said if it was tragic or suicide or illness? Just too many unanswered questions and loose ends for me.

★★★★Shattered by Nicole Banks (Shattered Hearts #1)

I was given this R2R in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really liked this book, I get it. This story hit too close to home on so many levels. I loved the raw emotions of Angel and Jasmine. They were on point.

Can they live past their personal demons? It's questionable, but these things don't heal over night, and sometimes never do.

Broken is a slippery slope with nothing to hold on to as you fall. But once you've shattered at the very rock bottom of your deepest darkest fear, the only place to go is up. It's your choice to walk around as a shell of the person you once were, or fight tooth and nail, to climb back up. Life's always worth fighting for.

I did hate the cliffhanger ending, it really pissed me off. Really?!?!?! You can't just end it there, that's mean.

This book does need quite a bit of editing, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to the author for sharing, I can't wait for Into Pieces.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review. I liked this book. It pulled me in immediately with these beautiful characters who were so tragically broken. The book is seen from everyone's point of view so there are few secrets that are kept. Angel is the ultimate sexy hero who worships Jas. The whole time I wondered if they would be able to find the strength to fight for each other or would Angel's stubborness and dedication get in the way? Would Jas give life another chance? These are questions that plague the novel. Good read.

This is the first book in a new series from this author. Jasmine survived a horrific attack, and Angel has his own demons to deal with, and just causes more heartache along the way. These two are fated to be together, but they have many obstacles from their pasts to overcome and conquer. This is a well written story which is an emotional rollercoaster journey from beginning to end. I look forward to reading the next book in this addictive series, and recommend this author for all readers.

SHATTERED is the first book in the "Shattered Hearts Duet". It is a fast N/A story about friends and family. There are moments that change everyone's lives and finding a new normal can sometimes be difficult to navigate.

I really liked the way the story was told in many different POVs, there is even a chapter told from "Angel's father's" point of view. I think it made an extremely intriguing way to read. The chapters are short yet full if dialog and details. I never felt bogged down by too much descriptive writing. There wasn't any filler.

The character development is good, the story moves at a good pace and I am definitely grabbing the second book of the duet to follow their journey further. The suspense was perfect.

I would recommend this for my older younger cousins as there are a few open door sex scenes.

I have read a few books from this author and she continues to blow my mind. I was so happy when this talented author came out with a new series. This is the first book in the Shattered Heart series and it was a perfect beginning. I was so excited for this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. Once I started I could not stop. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible story.

Angle is finally home safe and sound from the war. He has a lot of guilt in his heart due to the past. Angle is home to find a new beginning and her. He can’t stop thinking about Jasmine. She is always on his mind. Angle knows that it is wrong because she deserves so much better than him. He can’t help himself but when Jasmine starts telling her secrets, that’s when his true nightmare begins. Will these two broken souls find peace in each other or will their pasts destroy them both?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, suspense, and forgiveness. You can’t help but fall in love with these characters. Angle had a very hard life but he learned from his mistakes. He would do anything to make Jasmine happy even leave her for good. Jasmine is a very strong character. She had something really devastating happen to her that rock her world. Jasmine has a lot of trust issues but will she finally be able to trust someone with her heart? These two characters have some steamy scenes that will make your temperature rise. This author will have you at the edge of your seats until the end. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

This book was full of tons of laughter and tears for me. I love the tension that we see right off the bat with Angel and Jas. It’s that tension that you know once they both admit to themselves, its just going to be explosive in all aspects of the word. Jas is a strong character although it takes her some time to remember it and bask in her own strength. Angel is just yummy, from the way he cares about Jas and down to some of his mannerisms. I don’t want to go into too much detail about them for those of you that have not yet had the pleasure of reading the book, so I will leave it at Angel and Jas are great together and look forward to reading more about their journey. Also where can I find me an Angel??
I had so many moments in the book where I felt myself getting emotional, one of them being when Jas and Kris discuss the change in their friendship. I was so glad that they were able to work through it and pick up where they left off being the “terrible two.” Those girls are just hilarious together and I think balance each other out nicely.
The banter that Chase and Angel have with each other is great and makes for some seriously entertaining moments in the book. The friendship between those two can definitely give Jas and Kris a run for their money. Although my bets on Jas and Kris totally conquering Chase and Angel :-)
I am demanding now that Kris and Chase get their own series. Pretty please it would be so cruel if they didn’t. I just have no words, but their developing love/relationship whatever you want to call it, shall be explosive and I hope we get to see this as readers in their own mini series. Chase is just wow yeah man.
Lastly the way this author ends the book was just cruel and unusual punishment, but I can definitely see why she did it that way. I hope Volume 2 in the Shattered Hearts Series is already being written don’t know how long I can wait to find out what happens next.
Kudos to this author and her first book, look forward to reading many more of her books as her writing skills develop even more.

For a first time author I think you've done a wonderful job. The way the story grasp you from start to ending is amazing. I love the characters and how at some point in time you've had a friend like Jas and Kris. Even the guys who you want so bad but cant seem to touch.

Touching on love, struggle, losing a love one, SEX AND HEARTBREAK makes this story so good and so tempting that I personally can not wait for the next book to see where the rabbit hole leaves jas and angel. Hoping that Chase gets kris on THEIR OWN TERMS.

Fantastic read!!

Wow...where to begin?? I couldn't put this down. It's very relatable, as in, we all come from places where we grew up together, always had each other's backs. But when two of the crew get into a fight, slowly things unravel, and in this story one of the two join the Marines. Finally home he learns that the one person he would always protect has been raped. Both have demons to overcome, hers rape, his watching a buddy die. Can they find peace, or has their nightmares just begun???

This book was really good! For a first time author I was blown away how she puts together a well-read story!

This book has it all, love, lust, tragedy, lost, hope.... the banter between the characters was great, funny, feisty and sexy.

I love how the author has each character's point of view woven in each chapter... this is definitely an "original" story!

This is a trilogy, not a stand alone!

Jasmine Ortiz is having some difficulty getting close to people after an incident in her past that has left her shattered. With her best friend, Kristal Torres, trying to help her the best she can she hopes the panic attacks and nightmares will subside.

Angel Torres is Kristal's brother and was best friends with Jasmine's brother Jason before he died. Angel has had feelings for Jasmine for a long time but due to a few incidents in the past he doesn't feel like he has the right to be with Jasmine.

As Jasmine and Angel try and figure out what they want from each other, Kristal is trying to begin a relationship with Chase, a friend of Angel's. Can all of them figure out what they want and need from each other before a ghost from Jasmine's past comes back?

I liked this book but I found there were way to many points of view for me personally. At times the back and forth of Angel and Jasmine reminded me of high school drama and not the drama you expect from people older than that.

I felt bad for Jasmine with what she went through in the past with losing her brother and then the attack on her. She was struggling and knew that she had feelings for Angel but he kept pushing her away. I was glad when she finally stood up to him and was tired of the games he was playing.

At first I did like Angel but then I was mad at the games he was playing. I understood why he felt like he couldn't have a relationship with Jasmine due to what had happened with Kristal and Jason yet at the same time you'd think he would have realized how short life was and jumped on the chance at being happy and making sure that Jasmine was with someone who treated her right.

I liked both Kristal and Chase and was glad that they tried to talk some sense into Angel and make him see another side of things!

I was a little confused at the end with the note Jasmine received. Was she aware of it who it was the whole time and if yes why didn't she do anything?

Wow!! This book seriously packs everything in. Pain, heartache, friendship, love, trust, you name it this book has it all! I was completely drawn in from the beginning, I couldn't get enough. Nicole Banks has some amazing writing talent. Truly captivating.

Shattered is a romantic story about Jasmine and Angel. These two have known each other for years and have a great friendship. Angel goes off to join the Marines, leaving his hometown, family, friends and Jasmine behind.
Jasmine struggles while Angel isn't around, she is completely lost. A lot happens with Jasmine. She is not the same, carefree girl she once was.
Angel comes back from the Marines a changed man. His experiences at war have broken him. He struggles with guilt. Guilt about friends lost at war, guilt for leaving Jasmine when she needed him the most.
Shattered is a story with many emotions.
Can Jasmine and Angel ever be together as more than just friends? Can Jasmine move on from her terrifying, life changing ordeal and learn to learn and trust Angel? Can Angel move past his guilt of past events and be happy in the arms of Jasmine, the girl he has always loved from afar?

This book is one of the best I have read in this genre. The author knows how to draw in her readers.
The supporting characters in this book were great and I personally would love for Kris and Chase to get their own story and I certainly feel there is more that can be done with them.
I am eagerly awaiting the continuation of Jasmine and Angel in the second book of the series.
The story and characters are so relatable. Nicole Banks certainly knows how to take you through every human emotion.

This story ends on a cliffhanger!

My first experience of Nicole Banks and her work. I will 100% be reading other books from her.

If you love romance stories with a hot male lead, stories of hope, faith, love, trust, redemption and second chances then this book is the one for you. I highly recommend you buy this today!

What an excellent start to the Shattered Hearts Series! I actually read this book twice in the matter of a week. While this story revolves around Jasmine and Angel, it ultimately is the story of a group of friends that have known each other forever and there are so many things going on, I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything before I start book 2!

Angel swore he would always be there for Jasmine. Since childhood, he has been her protector. But once he joins the marines, he can no longer uphold his promise and tragedy strikes, not only in Jasmine’s life but also in his own. Years later he returns home to find everything has changed. Jasmine is no longer the happy, innocent young girl he left, but a full grown woman that he can’t seem to resist. But there is too much baggage between the two of them that keeps pulling them apart. They each have one single act, one single moment in their lives that has irrevocably changed them. That has made one stop trusting others and one stop trusting themselves. One moment, that when it returns to your thoughts, terrifies you enough that it takes you to the depths of hell and back over and over – in your daydreams and in your nightmares. Can they fight their way through it all and finally be together? Or is it all just too much?

This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. You can feel the pain and suffering. You can feel it in your heart when they smile. And this is not the end. There is so much more to explore. What about Kate and Chase? What is Tony’s deal? Who is Marcus? I can’t wait to find out all the answers in the next two books in this series! I am completely emotionally invested in the lives of all these characters. Nicole Banks has me hooked!

I've been sitting here conflicted about some things after reading Shattered. On one hand, I'm really upset that it took me this long to read the talented Nicole Banks, but on the other, had I already read this book, I would have lost my mind waiting for the conclusion. Anyway, this is the story of Jasmine & Angel told in 4 different POVs, and it was an emotional journey. Jasmine went through something horrifying, and she's not been the same since. She's been living with a darkness that took the full of life girl she used to be, and turned her into a closed off woman with nightmares. Angel has always had a thing for her, but he ran & joined the Marines. Many years later, he's come home, and he can't believe the Jasmine that he came face to face with. Thus started such a severe push & pull that I was totally ready to kill Angel, and then he really screwed up, and I'm not sure if he can redeem himself in my eyes. In fact, these men in this book all need to be junk punched over and over again, making stupid decisions to hurt the girls they want. And on top of that, there's danger stalking Jasmine, which kept me on the edge of my seat all the way up to the cliffy that nearly made my head explode. So yeah, this is a story that completely gripped me no matter what emotions came out to play, and I'm going to HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks was an okay read, that is heavy on the emotions and drama.

A little out of my normal comfort zone, I went into this book with an open mind. I like the flow and the multi POV's, each character had a distinct voice and the transitions were smooth and noticeable. The voices didn't blend, which is hard to do with more than two POV's; so props to the author for that.

I like the overall plot, but there are a few things that bother me. I didn't like the push and pull, sure at first it was expected, and I wasn't bothered by it, as both Angel and Jasmine are heavily scarred. I didn't like how long it went on, the lack of honesty, and the immatureness of their growing relationship. They were childhood friends, but acted more like "old not close friends". I was waiting for more from them, and I was let down in that regard. Also, as the story went on, I wasn't too please with the way Angel was acting.

Overall this book is a good read, it has many complex elements that are multi layered, and full of raw emotions. I am going to be reading the second book, as this one does end on a cliffy. This book gets my recommendation and stamp of approval, so please give this book a chance, as it has a compelling story of learning to trust, and picking up the shattered pieces.

Happy Reading

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1)
By: Nicole Banks
5 out of 5 stars

The story Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks is a contemporary romance book. It is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time. The book pulled me in from the beginning and I found myself lost in both the story and characters. I enjoyed reading about Jasmine and Angel. They were childhood friends. They find their way back to each other. Their lives have been filled with guilt and pain. They feel broken. They also feel a strong attraction to each other. Will they allow the pain of the past to make themselves push each other away or will they take a chance with one another? Read this book to find out. The story at times had me with tears in my eyes. I also enjoyed the bantering that goes back and forth between Angel and Jasmine. They both are characters that you can’t help but care about. There are other characters that are introduced, and I enjoyed reading about how many of them interacted with Jasmine and Angel. Don’t miss out on a book that you won’t want to put down until the last page. I highly recommend reading it.

Shattered is the first book in the Shattered Hearts series by Nicole Banks. This is a contemporary friends to lovers romance with some drama, pain, guilt, abuse, and emotion. This story reaches deep and tugs at your heartstrings- full of the highs and lows that life can bring- with laughter, tears, obstacles, angst and heartache. I really felt for the characters right from the beginning and was rooting for them the whole way through- even when they were frustrating me to death.
Angel was in the Marines, returning with some demons that haunt him. Jasmin has been through her own hell and has been trying to get her life back on track but hasn’t been able to shake her past. These two have a history, they were childhood friends, now reuniting after many years. What happens when feelings and desire begin to surface? Will they have what the other needs in order to heal? Will they help mend the shattered pieces of their hearts, or are they far too broken to ever put back together?
The story continues in the next book- but don’t worry, it is available to read right now, so no waiting between books!
The story was a little slow in places, but this didn’t detract to much from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Thank you, Ms. Banks!

I am not new to Nicole Banks but this new series was a delightful surprise from her. Shattered is the first book in the Shattered Heart Series and I see promise of fabulous characters and romantic trysts to to come, much like this one was.

In Shattered we get to find out all about Angel and Jasmine and see how they handle life and the many obstacles that can plague a newly home serviceman. Angel returns from the Marines with some guilt and past demons that just won’t let up on him. When he meets Jasmine everything seems a bit easier to handle for him and he finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Jasmine also has her past and emotional standoffs that will come into play. I love how Nicole Banks shared their story from multiple points of views. It kept the story flowing quickly and made it multidimensional. These two were not my absolute favorite couple of all time but the story was rich enough that I wasn’t left wanting anything. I look forward to seeing what else will come in the next few books. Thanks for the fabulous read Ms. Banks!

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) by Nicole Banks

This is my first book by this author and don't have any idea why...It was amazing, it did take me a few pages to get fully immersed into the story but once it grabbed me it did not let go and I already can not wait to open the next in this series and see what is still in store for Jasmine and Angel. Things were just getting good when this book ended and Thank goodness the next one is waiting for me on my kindle.

The back and forth between these characters was rough to read, so much blame being doled out not at anyone but themselves and I can't even imagine what Jas had been through and then the loss they all had to endure. I really loved getting the POV’s of many different characters instead of just one or two, I haven't read many books like that and I sincerely enjoyed that part.

I highly recommend this book and as I've already stated can not wait to dive in to the next, I love the writing style and the flow, I could not believe I had finished so quickly.

Loved it!!

Oh my gosh! Grab the Kleenex! Shattered just literally ripped my heart out. I was so engrossed with the book that the ending just slapped me. What an explosion of emotions! Mindblowing cliffhanger!
Two childhood friends now broken and lost, carry the burden of demons that haunt them. Secrets that caused their worlds to spiral downwards. Is the bond that Jas and Angel once had strong enough to heal them or will the secrets and the demon continue to haunt them? Will Angel be able to protect Jas this time?
I felt as though I was in the scenes with the characters living their grief and pain as they were trying to heal. So many raw emotions. I loved this book!! I can't wait to read the next installment, Into Pieces (Shattered Hearts). I strongly recommend this book!!! 5 stars++

Shattered (Shattered Hearts Series Book 1) By Nicole Banks. This book is so aptly named because I definitely felt shattered while reading this story. I’m such a huge fan of stories that have the main characters going through hard to speak about subjects. But the author does a wonderful job of writing about subjects that can be haunting. This book may have triggers but it’s also a beautiful story of second chances and coming back from the worst circumstances. It’s told in multiple points of view which I love because I think it gives a fuller picture of what’s happening. Jasmine and Angel have a connection that I still fill even after finishing the last page. I can’t wait to see where the author takes readers next. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. With characters that I won’t soon forget. Five stars all the way!

Shattered ( Shattered Hearts Series Book 1)
By Nicole Banks
5 out of 5 Stars!

Never give up! When all else fails and you have nothing left to lose, go for it! Ms. Banks’ writing left me entranced ad raw with emotion. From the very first chapter, I was drawn into the nightmare that is Jasmine’s life. The fears and dread to the love and lust between Angel and Jasmine pulled me deeper into the story. I just had to know what happened next.
This is a real page turner that left me hanging. I am excited to get into the next two books of the series.
Nicole Banks is a real writer. She writes with real emotion, about realistic characters, for real readers. I recommend rushing out and getting your copy today.
