Conversations with Joe presents the edited highlights of Vice President Joe Biden's 29 city US tour, in which he speaks candidly about his son Beau's remarkable life and the hope and purpose the Biden family found in carrying on Beau's work after he lost his battle with brain cancer. Joe Biden represented Delaware for 36 years in the U.S. Senate before serving as 47th Vice President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. In November 2020 he was elected President of the United States.
As the Vice President, Joe Biden addressed important issues facing the nation and represented America abroad, traveling over 1.2 million miles to more than 50 countries. He convened sessions of the President’s Cabinet, led interagency efforts, and worked with Congress in his fight to raise the living standards of middle class Americans, reduce gun violence, and address violence against women.
This is a collection of interviews with Joe Biden. The introduction is by MSNBC’s Mike Barnicle. A sample of some of the interviewers are: Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Melinda Gates and Janet Napolitano. These interviews took place after the publication of his book about the death of his son, Beau. This book is interesting and Biden is a natural storyteller. This is a good book to read as Biden may decide to run for president. Through these interviews one gets to know Biden a bit better both as a person and a politician.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is five hours and twenty-two minutes. Biden does a good job narrating the book.
Culled from Joe Biden's American Promise Tour this is highly repetitive as Joe is discussing his then forthcoming memoir Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose with its obvious questions while -- also obviously -- in prep for his Whitehouse run by bringing up his civil rights past, trying to get ahead of the Anita Hill controversy, etc. Biden so often casually talks of "Barak" before correcting himself to something more formal that it starts to feel like a disingenuous attempt to connect himself to the popular Democratic presidents in the voter's mind.
I really enjoyed this audio only book. It contains multiple interviews with an audience from various days in 2018 (I believe) and various hosts. This compilation manages to avoid some repetition but not all, as some stories are lead-ins to the unique question asked in that session. It's about family and what you gain from and contribute to whomever you call family. Listening to it now, you can see why he's made the choices he made and what guides him. His guiding principles are heartening to hear.
I love Joe Biden. To be honest, I didn’t realize this was kind of a sequel of sorts to “Promise Me”. But I still enjoyed it. It’s nice to get to know someone on this personal level and says a lot about who Biden is as a man.
