A woman is found dead, her body beaten post mortem. Stuffed into her mouth is a job application with the words "For You" scrawled across it. FBI profiler Kassidy Bishop is assigned to help find the killer. Despite being scarred by her twin sister's mysterious death fifteen years earlier, Kass is now a rising star in the Bureau's Behavior Analysis Unit.
But as more victims turn up dead around the country--all with the serial killer's trademark message left at the scene--Kassidy is left with more questions than answers. The victims seem to have nothing in common, and the meticulous killer is as inconsistent as he is brutal.
As Kass delves deeper into the mind of the killer, a shocking connection begins to emerge--one that is both personal, and deadly.
Told from the alternating viewpoints of Kassidy and the For You Killer, Kill for You is an edge-of-your-seat, roller coaster ride of a thriller.
Lisa Regan is the USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Detective Josie Quinn series as well as several other crime fiction titles. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Master of Education Degree from Bloomsburg University. She is a member of Sisters In Crime, Mystery Writers of America, Crime Writers’ Association, and International Thriller Writers. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband, daughter and Boston Terrier named Mr. Phillip.
Kassidy Bishop survived the brutal attack by a serial killer several years ago. She still suffers panic attacks and nightmares.
Kassidy is now an FBI analyst and recently been assigned to a task force to track a killer. Several murders have occurred across the country, all bearing the same signature. Somewhere on the crime scene, the investigators are finding the words ... For You ... written in blood, etched in the wall ... somewhere it will be seen.
It is soon discovered that all the victims have only one thing in common ... Kassidy.
Kassidy is a terrific character. She's smart, she's funny, and she's very good at her job. She's also susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm. And this killer is playing with her mind. The killer is unique in that he is losing time and doesn't remember all his kills. He could miss minutes, hours, sometimes even days. All his kills match the victims' sins in life.
As in her other books by this author, this one is well-written, suspenseful. The first chapter was a shocker and the suspense just built higher from there. I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a really good police procedural/thriller.
After reading her debut novel (Finding Claire Fletcher), which was simply brilliant, I was eager to read more of Lisa's books. Aberration is her second novel. When I started this book, I was hooked immediately and excited about settling in for an awesome ride. The tension was incredible - I just could not put it down.
Then BAM. I hit chapter 18 .... the one for me that gave everything away ... I knew immediately who the perp was. From that point on my excitement waned and my focus shifted from being fully involved in the story to sitting on the sidelines and wondering how long it would take for the central FBI characters to figure it out.
There is no doubt that Aberration is well written, meticulously researched, fast paced and full of twists and turns. The psychological and behavioural profile of stalkers/psychopaths was described superbly. On that basis I do recommend this book to readers; the reviews that it has received to date are deserved. However for me, and this is a personal thing, my adrenaline pumping roller coaster ride ran out of g-force all too soon.
I am a fan of this author and will continue to follow her. She is an accomplished writer and, in my view, a real talent in the suspense/thriller genre.
Aberration is damn creepy! Regan puts the reader smack dab in the demented mind of a serial killer and actually makes you understand his motivation, how his personal history has turned him into a monster.
Yet, on the other end of the spectrum, she places you in the head and heart of the woman who is hunting him him down, too. You will be blown away by how the two dance around each other, how they're connected. It's absolute perfection, Regan at her very best!
This is not your run-of-the-mill serial killer whodunit. It is sublimely unique. You know who the killer is. The question is WHY? And how is he connected to the very person dead-set on bringing him down? The pages are crammed full of conflict and tension that will have you chewing your nails down to nubs!
And of course, Regan's writing is captivating and engrossing, finely honed, and easy to set your teeth into. It's effortless, and you just can't seem to find that chapter to call it a night and put it down. So make sure you have a whole day in front of you with nothing else to do. You will NOT want to stop reading until the last page has been turned. Yes, it is THAT good!
**I received an ARC in return for an honest review**
WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW.
Lisa Regan...girl...you had my heart a beating something fierce and had me looking around my surroundings like a bazillion times. I even got up twice to look outside my windows at home just to see if anyone was there. Lurking in the shadows watching my every move. *shivers*
The way she describes the work that goes into profiling someone and working a case as an FBI agent was perfect. She gives just the right amount of insight to keep it a page turner and seriously it felt like I was watching a t.v. show or a movie and not reading a book. I love that she not only wrote Agent Kassidy's POV but also the POV from the "FOR YOU" killer. That was brilliant. Lisa lets us to get to know the killer and even though it's fucked up with what he does and it seriously....seriously creeps me out how he goes about things, I felt for him (a teeny tiny bit) towards the end.
The surprising twists and turns had me going "Whaa??" and "Huh...So did not see that coming." But I must admit that at one of the "surprising twist" I had already figured out halfway through the book but I still felt Kassid'y reaction when it came about. I felt her confusion, disbelief and anger as everything came to light.
If you want a creepy, didn't see that shit coming, non-stop page turner, mind blowing, jaw dropping, pee in your pants thriller, Aberrration is your book. Seriously. This book will give you the heeby jeebies. It will have you thinking twice about doing this or doing that after reading it.
100% of the books I read are romance novels but after reading Aberration I will definitely add anything by Lisa Regan to my stack of reads.
You won't regret picking up this book. I promise.
After finishing Aberration remember the following: 1. Never...ever hurt someone physically, emotionally or verbally. 2. Burn your trash. 3. Do background checks on everyone you know.
This second outing from crime writer Lisa Regan cements her status as one of the most promising talents in the field. If you've read her first novel, Finding Claire Fletcher, that delicious sense of creeping menace is still present, along with a greater depth and complexity.
A serial killer is taking out his victims in a variety of perverted ways and leaving the words "For You" at each scene. We know from the start whodunnit (as we witness the murders from the POV of the perpetrator, and the matter-of-fact description here is quite disarming). The question is why, and for who? Regan dripfeeds backstory about the killer, and the investigating agent, Kassidy Bishop, judiciously, making you want to discover more and more.
Without giving too much away, there are certain conditions affecting both Kassidy and the killer that make things even more intriguing (and the killer doubly scary!)
I was also impressed by the meticulous research that was in evidence, regarding the FBI, and the behaviour of stalkers and psychopaths. It reads like a novel by a seasoned thriller writer. And if you want twists, you surely won't be disappointed - in fact, I want to reread the whole book in the light of what we find out by the end.
The pacing is excellent - well measured, and not frantic and headlong. Again, this is effective in the way it helps build the tension and danger.
Superb! I eagerly await further works from Lisa Regan.
I've read all the novels in the Josie Quinn series so I was looking to explore some of Regan's other work. Her writing style as always draws you in and makes this a quick read. Regan's characterisation, I find, is her greatest strength which was no different in this novel (particularly for the male main character in this) . Plot wise this wasn't very strong though; arguably not much happened aside from the murders. The female protagonist didn't do much actual 'policing' and had experienced so much trauma in her life (which seemed quite unfair) - yet despite this I'm meant to believe that a 'good' FBI agent who is 'more vigilant' due to her past trauma did not realise that she had been stalked for 20 plus years? I'm not buying it. It also didn't work for me knowing who the killer already was, as we were reading from his perspective, as well. It lost the 'thrill' a little bit of trying to figure out whodunnit.
This is a fabulous book! I am so glad to have been able to read it. The story is wonderful. The main character is one that is exciting and lovable. I will definitely be reading more of this author's books ! She has a way of writing that keeps the entire book mesmerizing.
Yowser! This was originally published in 2013 as "Aberration," and only the second book published by Lisa Regan. Damn. She was a powerhouse right from the beginning. This is an intense, page turning, edge-of-your seat read. I love that she always features strong female characters. The villain here is a complex, deeply disturbed man molded by horrific experiences in his childhood. I had an idea who the killer/stalker was, but still was thrown by a twist at the end. Just a terrific, creepy, "I can't put this book down" read.
I finished Finding Claire Fletcher a week ago, and started reading this story right away.
An excellent suspense thriller in which a tough FBI analyst tracks a smooth and hard-to-pin-down serial killer who is connected to her and her family, in more ways than one. A gripping page-turner with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge until the masterful 'out-of-the-box' epilogue which packed a punch! I didn't see it coming! This is the author's second book and it's even better than the first! Simply amazing!
I won a copy of "Aberration" by Lisa Regan through the Goodreads Giveaway Contest. This suspense thriller was amazing! What a treat to read such a well written novel, that grips you right from the beginning and doesn't let you go until you have finished it.
A serial killer is on the loose, and he is causing havoc in various states in United States. He stalks his victims for months, getting to know their routine, before he makes his move. He is working off a list...and crosses them off when he gets his revenge. The UNSUB shows the victim a picture of a woman, and asks them if they remember her...and if not he gets his revenge. His signature is leaving the message "For You", at the scene of the crime. He is a meticulous planner...and he will kill again. What drives this person to carry out such horrendous acts?
Kassidy Bishop, an FBI analyst is assigned to the "For You" killer's task force (BAU) following a series of malicious murders in different parts of the country. The cases bring back unpleasant haunting memories of her own encounter with a violent criminal five years ago. Kassidy had also lost her twin sister, Lexie, fifteen years ago, when she jumped or was pushed out her dorm window, eleven stories and fell to her death. Since that time, every anniversary of her twin sister's death...Kassidy has received flowers left on her doorstep...sender unknown.
Kassidy is determined to solve these cases, and brings with her a keen and acute sense in profiling the UNSUB. What connects all these victims? The closer she comes to finding the killer can put her at great risk.
This was a great plot with great character development. I was so engrossed in this novel, I didn't want it to end. Highly recommend this novel to those that enjoy reading suspense thrillers.
Once again Lisa grips you from the beginning and never lets go! .
I was hooked from the first chapter. this story just full of action and drama and a twist. Although I figured out who the killer was early on and saw what was coming I still wanted to continue reading because the book is just that good!!!
I feel like the author slipped in clues that might seem like unnecessary information but each one came screaming back at me further in the book and I would question something out loud. I love books like this that make you think you know what will happen but you second guess yourself... Lisa Regan is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! Can't wait to read more.

Abberation is brilliant!! Intense, creepy and pulse-pounding!!!
Lisa Regan does a spectacular job of describing the scenes in such great detail that you it's like a movie being played out before you. And she gives just the right amount of details - nothing too drawn out or not enough - it's perfect!! And the pace of the book is dead-on! Regan gives just the right amount of tension and build-up. And the twists - wow, so many things I never saw coming!
The story is told from POV's of Kassidy and the For You killer. It's amazing to get inside the mind of a serial killer and see not only how, but why he does things a certain way. You get to know him and his past and his many issues. Getting into the mind of Kassidy is amazing - she is a very strong woman. She has gone through alot of in her life and still refuses to back down and let fear take over her life. As she takes on the "For You" case - you get to see how an FBI agent is able to come to certain conclusions with varying amounts of evidence. You get to see how everything affects her not just professionally, but personally.
You can tell that Regan has done a massive amount of research to make this book as real and true to life as can be. Regan goes into great detail about the mannerisms and behaviors of a psychopaths, serial killers, etc; details about the evidence and how local police officers and FBI operate and different scenarios they are able to come up with based on the evidence. It is amazing - something I would expect more from a seasoned author!!
I refuse to give any details in fear that I may give something away. The entire story is amazing - you get sucked in immediately!! I am definitely going back and rereading because of things I learned later on in the book. I do not how many times my jaw just dropped open in complete shock. Lisa Regan is going to be a force to reckon with in this genre of writing!!!
This is a very well written and intriguing novel. The author goes a very long way to make her story believable and captivating. Regan backs up her well researched and put together plot with some very vivid descriptions. Everything is laid out in a way that you can’t help but picture it (even if you may not particularly want to). She writes with a flare that allows you to immerse yourself in the plot of the story without tripping over the writing. Regan has the ability to evoke a variety of emotions in her readers. She kept me in suspense throughout while at the same time she completely broke my heart (and put it back together again).
Regan flips between the perspectives of the female protagonist and the male antagonist in such a way that you can picture what’s happening on all fronts. As a reader you know the crimes, how they’re being committed, and why the detectives can’t quite pin down what’s happening. This adds greatly to the definite forward flow of the story.
I appreciate the strong female lead in a crime mystery. It’s different than the norm for the genre but works very well with the way that Regan has developed this phenomenal character. There is a uniqueness in the main character and her past that makes this story stand out amongst the others of its genre. The male antagonist is also fully developed in all ways, and just plain creepy to top it off. These two very well developed main characters are backed by a supporting cast that you get to know as part of your own world. Many of them could hold their own as the main character in their own novel.
This was a brilliant standalone novel. Regan keeps you intrigued and guessing throughout, with no strings left hanging at the end. That said, I’d love to see more from these characters and could easily see it becoming a well-loved series.
Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Another great read recommended by a friend on Goodreads. I had never heard of either the Author or the novel but decided to read this novel on the strength of the recommendation. I was not disappointed, the book is certainly a page turner and full of suspense. The book grabs you very quickly and from then on you are hooked. Well structured plot and skillfully developed characters. I am sure I will read more of this authors work.
No sophomore slump here! Lisa Regan really outdid herself with some strong and memorable characters and a riveting story. This is a must read for people who like a good psychopath!
Kassidy works for the FBI. Five years ago she was attacked. She barely survived with her life. However the guy who attacked her was killed. Kassidy is past all that now and has moved on with her life. That is except for her sister’s murder. Every year for sixteen years Kassidy has received the same flower arrangement…purple hyacinths. The flowers have to be from Lexie’s killer but Kassidy has not been able to figure out who it is.
Lexie’s killer has been tracking down Kassidy for years. He is drawing closer to her. With each step that he takes, he leaves more bodies in his wake. Kassiday will need to watch her back before she becomes her sister’s next victim.
Aberration is my first introduction to author Lisa Regan. This book started out strong and with a bang. It never stopped until the end. I love a good mystery/suspense novel. In fact this is my favorite genre. Now that I have read this book, I will be keeping my eye sight on Lisa and what she comes out with next. I read this book on my computer. I wanted to point this out because there was plenty of action going on that I did not mind sitting in front of my computer screen to read this book.
Kassidy was a powerful woman. She can definitely hold her own with the guys and against killers. Especially ones that want to kill her. I mean in the first few scenes of this book, Kassidy was awakened by a psycho killer and had her jaw broken yet she still found a way to shot the guy dead all with being tied up. Aberration is not to be missed. This book will take you on a roller coaster ride that will have you wanting more.
This is one of those books that was so awesome that I don’t even know how to review it without spoiling everything! But here goes: Kassidy is an FBI agent with a very painful past. While dealing with her inner demons, she hunts serial killers. In this book there is one particular serial killer she is after, the ‘For You’ killer that leaves the message: 'For You', on each body. While hunting this serial killer, the reader gets the story from the point of view of both the killer and Kassidy, making you feel like you are in on the secret! You know who the serial killer is, and the book slowly reveals the why, which was awesome!
This was a fast paced story that kept me turning the pages, kept wondering what was going to happen next and it was a great excuse to sneak in a few pages here and there while writing my thesis! It all felt very realistic, while still being an epic crime/thriller/mystery! The book is extremely easy to read and the twists and turns will keep you up at night!
I wish this was a series and that it wasn’t over! Something that is so well written, researched and has such deep and interesting characters, deserves to be read. For now I will settle for more books from Lisa Regan!
This book will thrill any crime and thriller lover and even if it isn’t your genre, I don’t think this book will disappoint!
It's a good rule of thumb that if you just want to read a few chapters of a novel before going to bed DO NOT start a novel by Lisa Regan. I found Aberration nearly impossible to put down and I would have read the whole thing in one sitting if not for the necessity of sleep.
To me one of the hallmarks of a great thriller is fully-realized characters that readers can come to care about or at least understand. Aberration has these kinds of characters in spades, particularly the protagonist Kassidy Bishop. It's always a treat to see a strong female protagonist, but Kassidy is not some kind of superwoman. She is tough and determined when it comes to her job, but she is also vulnerable and emotionally repressed due to the horrors of her past.
The killer is a fascinating villain and it was chilling to read the chapters that are told from his point of view. He's a monster, of that there is no question, but it's difficult not to feel some kind of empathy for him as the story plays out. To me that is the mark of a great character.
Aberration is filled with twists that will keep the reader turning pages. The final twist comes in the form of a quietly powerful ending that sent a chill up my spine.
Regan is an extremely talented writer and I will be looking forward to reading whatever she comes up with next.
OMG!!! I just finished Aberration.... It is the BEST thriller I have read in FOREVER!!!!! I had the great privilege to get an Advanced reading copy of Aberration and read the entire book in one day. The whole book kept me on the edge of my seat and I only stopped for two things, coffee and the potty. From the first chapter to the very last page I was so caught up with the action and the heart racing thrill of this great book. The entire story line is laid out so well it was like watching a movie. I could actually see rooms as Lisa described them. So many times authors describe in detail, for way too long, every aspect of the room from the color of every piece of furniture to the way the carpet lays, but Lisa gets to the main point by telling the description without holding the story back. I felt every emotion Kassidy felt from beginning to end of this amazing book. Lisa throws the twist and turns in at just the right moment I was biting my nails. I thought I could solve the mystery before the end of the book..... I was so wrong. Lisa Regan is most definitely a great author and will be keeping us on the edge of our seats for years. She deserves way more, but for me she gets 5 Extra large stars!!
From the moment I read the first words of this excellent novel, I was enthralled. Lisa Regan has the ability to effortlessly scoop the reader into the action. "Sights, sounds and smells" are her special skill, bringing the manuscript to kaleidoscope brilliance, leaving the reader breathless. Regan gives the reader no chance to recover during the thrill-ride of Aberration and indeed, why should she?
I do not want to give spoilers because other reviews have recounted the story and the synopsis is right up there on the Amazon site.
What I can say is - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and a credit to the author! I shall certainly be reading more of her work.
This author can write a wicked, twisted edge of your seat suspense.
Kassidy was brilliant at her profiling job and damaged for the same reason. This book had so many twists that it reminded me of a Harlan Coben book. Awesomeness!
In the last week I have devoured every single book by this author. She is unique and absolutely epic in this genre. I’m thankful a good friend pushed me to continue reading her after I read a book a while ago.
You MUST read her if you like dark, can’t put down books!
Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. Lisa Regan is phenomenal! You know it's a great book when you feel like you are connected to every character. I had never read anything by this author, but you can bet she is on the top of my to read list of authors. Thank you Lisa Regan for being so good at what you do. You absolutely have a new fan in me!
I stopped reading this book at 29% (Kindle edition). SPOILERS: Screwing around with a married man does not make Kassidy likeable. Getting pregnant (while unmarried) makes her stupid. Yet, the author wants me to believe she will capture a serial killer. I don't think so. (Having stopped reading, I have no idea whether she will catch Wyatt or not but I'm not interested.)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I couldn't put it down. I never saw the twists coming, and I usually figure out most of the whodunits. I can't wait for Lisa's next one. I think she is going to be among the best mystery writers of our generation.
