(Unedited manuscript for feedback and critiques) Eighteen-year-old biracial Haze O’Hagan is a virgin, and everyone in 2050 Dublin seems to be doing “it”, except for him. During a Halloween party, Haze meets Aoife, a girl with the strength of ten men and impenetrable skin. Determined to break away from his family’s Latter-Day Saint views on abstinence, Haze agrees to go home with Aoife. Their night comes to a halt upon discovering Aoife’s father, Patrick Lynch at home. Haze realises Aoife’s dad is the world-famous creator of God-Tech, nanobot making tech akin to magic. Upon greeting Lynch, Haze falls unconscious and see’s in vision, a demon named Legion.
After waking, Haze discovers his own demonic powers and the ability to possess minds. Haze gained a hidden curse and divine protection after witnessing his father’s murder years ago. Haze could never identify the murderer, until now—Patrick Lynch. Lynch willingly became possessed with Legion granting him immortality.
Haze wants to kill Lynch but can’t because of his immortality and Lynch can’t kill Haze because of Haze’s divine protection. A tit for tat game erupts between the two: Haze tries to expose Lynch to the world. Lynch retaliates by killing people associated with Haze, filling Haze with guilt and grief. If Haze can’t prove who Lynch really is, Lynch will get away with murder, Haze will lose Aoife, his friends will continue to die, and Lynch will destroy humanity from the inside out.
Book provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Solid 4.4 / 5 stars A powerful story of good versus evil, the writing style is very intriguing and easy to read, fast-paced story with many dialogues between the characters, filled with humor and Irish slang. I love the banter between Haze and Chris. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the story in future installments. This guy has potential!
Fyi, this book was provided to me by the author himself in exchange for an honest review. Thank you
Fast paced. Futuristic. Brilliant.
3 words that i think best describe this book. To be completely honest, i was not expecting that i would like this book. I mean, i loved the synopsis but i was kind-of doubting the futuristic idea of the story. In general, i’m a person who’s more interested with the past or present timelines.
This book was just written well. I loved how the story was fast paced and i don’t think there were any dragging parts where you would tend to snooze off before you finish it — HAHAHAHA. Anyway, going back.. my favorite part was the beginning where Haze was talking to his father about how he wants to learn how to be able to defend himself from bullies. It struck my heart.
Another thing i loved, is the future setting of this book (yes i said it lol) i mean, it’s just amazing and brilliant to foresee or imagine how it’d be like in the 2050s. Being able to use that kind of advanced technology is just.. i’m speechless. Imagine if we could use that today? Advanced technology and advanced medicine? This book actually gave me or lifted back up my hope in life.
* i’d recommend this to yall. Sorry i can’t find my words.. just yall give it a try. I’m telling you, this is the first time ive read this kind of book and i’m amazed!
I was very kindly gifted a copy of Haze: The Devil of Dublin by the author, who contacted me on Instagram. Yes, I’m doing the Instagram now… The description seemed to have a certain novelty to it, and the cover was beautiful, so I think I was sold before I even started. I should mention, I received The Devil of Dublin in its raw state; of which, I was warned by the author. I’m a picky reader, and tend to steer clear of the self-published genre because people who self-publish don’t always also edit… It frustrates me. Oh, for the delicate touches of a good editor! How many mediocre books could have been great, if someone had only been allowed to edit them… And yes, when I read it, The Devil of Dublin needed an edit here and there to tighten up aspects of the language and the shape of the plot. But. With a really good book, which this is, the plot and the characters shine through all the rough edges. I’m struggling to categorise the book. I suppose I would say it was a sort of dystopian sci-fi, action, family drama? I’ll unpick that a bit for you. The story is set in Dublin in 2050, in a world which is both familiar and at the same time terrifyingly different. If anything, the familiarity of certain aspects of life in Dublin makes the dystopian nature of the worldbuilding more pronounced. This is not a comfortable read, but it does challenge your thinking – which I value. The events have a surreal quality against this backdrop of a world where everything you know is turned on its head, and I enjoyed how this created a subtle sense discordance. There was a sort of inevitability about the world and the direction in which the characters were led. In Haze O’Hagan’s Dublin of the future, technology and faith are at war. The technological advances were staggering, but you could imagine it happening. In some ways, it wasn’t too far from our own expectations about where technology might go; only, the dial had been turned up to 100, and everything was more extreme. The book opens a discussion, or train of thought, around this intersection between technology, modernity, our modern society, and the more traditional values of faith and religion. It’s an interesting concept.
…many of us spend the currency of time seeking peace.
If it wasn’t clear already, this is a book dealing with some big themes. More and more in modern sci-fi, we’re seeing authors being unafraid to talk about difficult and challenging themes. For which, of course, the genre acts as a perfect vehicle. As well as the juxtaposition of faith and technology, which I’ve mentioned, in The Devil of Dublin there is a strongly defined contrast between the loving “normality” of a family, and those rather sweetly imperfect relationships, and the uglier side to the human character, which results in graphic violence and confusion and has darker, more ambiguous motives. As much as the story is an exposition of what the future might look like, and where that leaves society, it is also an exploration of humanity and character. There is certainly a strong autobiographical element to the story, and I was left wondering where fantasy and reality crossed paths. Isn’t that the whole point of sci-fi? And I thought that was a very clever device, which challenged the reader to define the nature of fiction and the boundaries of imagination. It also added to the author’s surrealist, dystopian vision. The book chopped at points between places, characters, and times, which had the effect of immersing the reader in the protagonist’s own chaotic state of mind. It was action-packed and fast paced, with plenty of twists to keep you on your toes, and paused rarely for exposition of descriptive narrative – much in the style of a modern thriller. The characters are well developed, and the author uses the dialogue to great effect, with colloquialisms, multilingualism, and dialect, which created very effective sketches of who’s who and their different traits. I very much enjoyed Haze: The Devil of Dublin. Although it was not in its final state when I read it, it was clever, complicated, and strangely fulfilling. I would definitely recommend it for fans of sci-fi and futuristic thrillers. This is an author to watch out for.
Set in the year 2050, this futuristic sci-fi YA read was so gripping I couldn’t put it down! The setting of this story being in Dublin was perfect. The characters all Spoke using Irish slang which I thought helped separate this book from any other. What really kept me reading was the short and neat chapters, the technology seemed realistic for the time the story was set in, and the characters all had such depth and a uniqueness of their own. No matter what you enjoy reading this book has a little of everything, sci-fi, fantasy, supernatural, superhero, diversity (sexual & cultural), romance, and the brutality and violence isn’t too extreme for YA readers. Such a powerful story that I didn’t want it to end. I can only hope there will be more of Haze in the future.
Haze: The Devil of Dublin is a fast- paced story set in a futuristic dystopia. It’s a story of good vs evil however there are not simply metaphors for both of them, instead the author literally provides us with an angel and devils. The characterisation of Patrick Lynch is so well done that he does seem like the epitome of evil. Unlike most modern day villains where you learn their backstory and begin to feel sorry for them, that clearly isn’t the case here; there is no sympathy for him. Haze O’Hagan on the other hand is our moral compass of the book as he has to discover and ultimately do was it good and right to save humanity; but how can he know what to do when good and evil isn’t as clean cut as you’d think? The novel is very fast-paced; it keeps you on the edge of your seat and fully engaged, helped by the short chapters and quick cuts between different times and places. Our protagonist Haze, although he practically becomes a superhero, is still a relatable character as seen by his real and natural relationships with his friends and family. Their comical colloquial language and the appropriate Irish slang helped to set the scene, as although it is a futuristic novel, Dublin is a real place filled with interesting characters. It is set in 2050, only 31 years from now; it’s scary but not unreasonable to think that technological advances like Flick tech could evolve so soon. It’s eye-opening to think that this dystopian world of fear and anguish described in the novel is a possibility for the future of humanity (hopefully for us in the very distant future). This novel is still is the process of editing so there are a few spelling or grammatical errors that I’m sure will be taken care of. Although this doesn’t take anything away from the story, one element that does slightly is the authors habit of giving us too much information, I would like to be shown through description certain bits instead of bluntly told facts. This is however a minor detail and believe me reading the rest of the description of this book does make you feel like you’re watching an action-packed movie. Thank you so much again to the author for sending me a copy of Haze: The Devil of Dublin, it is such a powerful story with an ending that left me wanting more. I therefore believe that this book, once edited, should be picked up by a publisher; I hope we can see more of Haze O’Hagan in the future.
An ARC ebook I'm glad I had the opportunity to read. Thank you Haze O'Hagan for allowing me the chance to read this story, I really enjoyed it. I'd recommend this book to other readers if your interested in reading a futuristic, scientific, supernatural story with a difference.
I've read many supernatural stories over the years, but this one was unlike anything I've read before. Set a few decades in the future, when technological advances have changed the lives of humans in unimaginable ways, this story gives us a scientific concept, heavily involving religion. I myself am not religious, but this didn't feel preachy in any way, in fact it felt essential in this story.
The beginning of this story had a creepy feel to it, as the evil is located and released, it did make me cringe several times to be honest. I'm not used to reading such brutal violence in such graphic detail, but come on, you can't really have a story involving evil/demons/devils be all fluffy and light. The violence/brutality has to reflect the evil and in this case it certainly does. And this level of violence continues throughout this story.
I liked the main characters involved, well the good guys obviously, not a fan of the evil ones, it would be worrying if I was, though I have to say the evil characters in this story truly reflect the epitome of evil. Very well written. The dynamics between the characters felt real and natural to me. I accepted them in their roles and clearly felt the different bonds between them as I read. Family, friends and enemies.
Thought provoking, intriguing, dramatic and brutal, I think I felt practically every emotion while reading this book. A powerful story of good verses evil, that raises questions in our own lives, this book certainly made an impression on me. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the story in future installments. I need to know what happens next.
I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Yes. That’s right. I said violent. Like.. dang.. it was really gory. If it were a movie, I might not have watched it kind of gory. Fortunately, it was a book so I endured it; cringing every time I read some violent scenes. Hehe..
But frankly, it was a really great book. I honestly enjoyed the fast paced, action packed, dark and evil story (though it scared the shit out of me). Besides, I thought it was brilliant to write the book part sci-fi, part contemporary, part supernatural/occult, and part superhero/vigilante.
Moreover, I learnt a lot from this book. There were quiet a few eye opening advises that would change our perspective of the world we live in. We may think that there so much bad in the world and that’s all we see. But seriously, there so much good in the world too!
I didn’t really get the ending though. And what happened to the evil bad guy? Maybe I should categorize this as a cliffhanger since I have a few unanswered questions. Okay.. I admit it wasn’t a bad cliffhanger but seriously, I’m dying to understand what happened. I guess I’ll never know. Or will there be a sequel? Haha.. I’m absolutely speculating right now.
Anyway, this book was actually better than what I expected. And I would totally recommend it if you don’t mind the violence. A great debut novel by Haze himself.
Thank you Haze for reaching out to me and allowing me to review your book. It was an amazing experience.
Thank you to Kelvin Troy for providing me an ebook ARC, it's been a pleasure to read your first book!
Haze: The Devil of Dublin is a very intriguing YA novel, that takes place in Ireland during year 2050. The main character Haze is a teenage boy, that enjoys spending time with his friends and family, and like any other teenager on earth his hormones are crazy for someone. He doesn't know that his life will change forever after a "casual" meeting: thanks to his new superpowers, he's destined to fight against the forces of evil with the help of his clique. But is he going to use them only for good? And who is the evil in this story?
I really enjoyed this book for many reasons: it's fast-paced story with many dialogues between the characters (this is basically how we get to know them all), filled with humor and Irish slang; the chapters are not too long and it's impossible to get bored because location changes quite often and something new always happens; there are some religious references that provide some depth and background to the story (I love when authors mix their fantasy with reality or other stories) and finally, the main character is very human! Of course his new powers change him, however he's still a down-to-earth teenager with crazy hormones.
As a proof-reader myself, I'd say that this book needs some editing: while the writing style is very intriguing and easy to read, there are some grammar mistakes and missing punctuation that need to be fixed in order to enhance its quality.
Considering this is the first book of Kelvin Troy, I am really impressed! 4 well-deserved stars!
before i start this review, i’d like to say thank you to the author for sending me a copy of the book. i don’t usually venture to books with lots of advanced technology, but something about the book’s synopsis made me compelled to read it (swipe to read the synopsis!)
rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 this is a fascinating tale about good vs evil. set in futuristic Dublin, i could actually see the technologies being created in real life one day. reading this book feels like watching a movie, and speaking of, it should be one!
➺ i love how fast-paced the story was! you’ll probably keep on turning the page, and when you’re done, you’ll wish he wrote a sequel. ➺ the chapters are short! hahah this isn’t really a relevant point, but i love it when the chapters are short. ➺ the characters all have some distinctive trait attached to them, making them stand out and quite memorable. i especially enjoyed the dialogues (and the slangs they use). ➺ this book is sort of like a jack of all trades. it has a little bit of everything. fantasy, sci-fi, action, dystopian, diversity, romance, family love, violence, you name it. ➺ it will make you think about life. all the technologies we have and will probably have, how modern society perceives it, and the impact on faith and religion. ➺ the worldbuilding deserves a standing ovation! most books have their own settings, created by the author, constructed to their liking. but this one uses Dublin, an existing city, and made it futuristic! it was quite believable, and i love it. ➺ however, this book relied a bit on telling. you know that phrase, “show, don’t tell?” i personally think that some information is better shown than told.
all in all, i’d recommend this book if you like futuristic settings! it won’t let you down, i promise you.
Please notice that this book has been provided to me by the author, who asked for an honest review.
And I’m so glad he did, because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to discover this little gem. First of all, ‘Haze’ is the name of the main character of our story, a teenager Dubliner that has been endowed with some powers that he will use “for good”. But is there a real definition of good? Can we be able to distinguish between what is good and what is not? I must admit that I have contacted the author the day after I started reading this, just to tell him that the world that he built was the one I wanted to live in (in his vision of the 2050 the progress in medicine and technology is so advanced that I wished we could just move to that era and forget about the troubles we’re dealing with today). The story moves at a very fast pace, and it’s impossible not to be captured by the details in the descriptions and by the depth that the author provides to the characters. I personally LOVE the relationship that Haze has with his little brother, and I adore every single bookish/superheroes reference that I found scattered throughout the pages. This book is filled with action, and moral questions, and really made me think: ”What would I have done if I were in Haze’s position?”.
I know that this is not a complete version of the book, but oh my, didn’t I like it?! Good job! We’ll definitely see more of you in the future and I’m excited for what is waiting for you 💪🏻
I received the copy of Haze: The Devil of Dublin by the author in exchange for an honest review!
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 "I'm no devil, for there is none"
I really liked this book! It is chillingly good!! The story takes place in 2050 and it was really intresting to see how the world would be in the near future..! It was a scifi, fantasy novel. I dont read many fantasy books but it was a fast paced and action filled novel which makes it even more intresting to read...but it gets disturbing at times!
I loved the character of our protagonist, Haze...though he had many super powers yet his character was relatable. This book deals with some really big themes and is a thought provoking read with strong and intresting characters, and unique plot!
Thanks @Hazeauthor for giving me a chance to read this amazing book✨ i would recommend it to everybody...it has so many themes that i'm sure you'd like it whether you're into fantasy/YA or not!
Really great story! Loved the dynamics of the characters. Felt that some parts were extremely slow and overly detailed and the more intense good parts were over quickly. But overall I would recommend this to others and would love to have a hard copy of it on my shelf!
Ok, let's talk about this amazing book, first of all I must admit that it was much better than I expected. This book has a combination of a futuristic and supernatural world connected to reality, seriously it is very strange to think what the world will be like in the 2050s, and what about the characters, they are well developed, the essence of Haze really intriguing me. I liked the fact that always something new happens. The emphasis between good v/s evil, technology and religion are issues that make you think seriously about what the world will become in the future. There are some scenes of violence that made me shudder, but what caught my attention is that caused me all kinds of emotions! Anyway I’m curious to see what’s next! The book is written well and it is a quick reading so you will not get bored.
Thank you to Haze O' Hagan for providing an ebook ARC for this review, it's been an honor reading your first book.
Haze: The Devil of Dublin has been an amazing journey for me. When i first read the synopsis provided in the email i got, i found it unique but intriguing at the same time. The story makes use of Religion which could be alarming for some people but i can guarantee that there is nothing offensive for anyone and if i may say so, it might instill faith in some (However, it's fair to say that i am not the religious type so if you absolutely don't like reading about your religion then just avoid this). The plot has to do with Good Vs Evil, action-packed (contains violence) and of course it couldn't be missing a lovestory as well !!
Haze (not the author but the protagonist) basically becomes a demon fighting for the side of the angels, he's trying his best to use his powers for good but is he gonna keep it that way ? Don't know you will have to read it yourself. Haze as well as the rest of our characters are all likeable with traits of their own ,that you'll surely find someone to sympathize with.
The book is fast-paced with mainly dialogues to help develop the plot, which i found really good since i'm not a fan of slow paced fantasy books. Something new comes up in every chapter so you can't get bored or tired with it, it builds up great to a point and then it explodes but for me, that point is 40 pages prior to the end. I get why those pages exist but personally, i would have liked it to end at a certain point however, if the author wants to write a sequel then yes, those last 40 pages are needed. I liked how the book used a lot of events to help spread awareness of some social issues of the 21st century, appreciated that! As for the writing, all i'm gonna say is that it is a first book so having that in mind, i'd say it's okay for an action packed book !! To be honest i could see it becoming a movie, like the writing is suitable for a movie ... please someone make this a movie xd
Overall, i'd say keep an eye on this book cause once it is published you're gonna want to read it. It's gonna be big in my opinion and i can see it be a book series for sure, Haze O'Hagan is promising !!
I received the unedited arc of the book from the author for a review, but that definitely doesn't affect my opinion on it.
All in all, what a rollercoaster! Such a thrilling, adventorous, nail-bitingly marvelous story!
It was like nothing I've ever read before and I'm glad to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though the main character Haze receives remarkable powers, I love it how he still acts as a teenager. It's not often books mention how boys are actually affected by girls and how often they think about sex. It's refreshing to see someone say it the way it is and not romanticize everything.
Ah, and the humor in the book! As someone who used to live in Ireland, even the slang they use made me chuckle. The banter between the boys is exactly how the Irish lads I know act!
I am not sure if the author has a wicked sense of humour or it's just me, but sentences like "two demons ripped his arms off, then beat him to death with them" and "he tried to put out the fires, fanning them with a corpse he picked up" made me grin like a proper eejit. Those moments probably weren't meant to elicit such feelings, but damn! Love it.
The tech in the book is a whole another matter. It definitely made me think about whether that is actually something which could happen in the future. Especially the game Rush. If that came true, every Harry Potter fan in the world would rejoice, as that game definitely gave off Quiddich vibes!
On a more serious note, the subject of people being influenced by their want of power and riches is very well depicted in this book. And the fact that not every person will succumb to it - in Haze's case. I at least hope it stays that way for him and am looking forward for the sequel! What a marvelous first novel.

📖 Haze: The Devil of Dublin 😈 My rating: 3.7⭐'s ➖ ➖ ➖ This book has everything: demons, robots, angels, love and a superhero. 👼🤖❤😘 ➖ ➖ This is a story a young man given powers to to undo the wrongs of evil his father helped to be released. ➖ ➖ ➖ I really loved the begging. It got me hooked from the very first pages. The action scenes and fights are brilliantly described 💪👊🔫. But what I loved the most is the beautifully written world of future, with all the new technologies and people's attitude towards them. ➖ ➖ However, as the main character got introduced, I realized that I am way to old for this book. And reading about teenagers was a bit boring for me. And sadly, I could not understand that teenage humor and all the sex-with-parents jokes. 😑 This is my first YA novel. And I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more ten years ago. But back then I was reading nothing but Russian classical literature. ➖ ➖ ➖ All in all, reading this book was a rather pleasant experience. 😉✨✨ And even though I wouldn't recommend it to any adult I know, I wouldn't mind my 16-year-old niece reading it. 😏 ➖ ➖ ➖ This book was kindly provided to me by the author Haze O'Hagan @hazeauthor in return for an honest review. It is not published yet. But I have no doubt that soon enough it will be.

Synopsis: Dublin Ireland 2050. Cursed as a boy, now dreaded as the Devil. Join Haze O’Hagan on his quest for justice and redemption as he battles against forces he cannot understand or explain. God, no longer a necessity to prosperity became a hindrance in the eyes of many, causing Haze to grow up in a world where men through science could perform their own miracles. As technology became almost indistinguishable to magic, a new god was born: “Patrick Lynch” the father of neo-micronisation. The Devil of Dublin is an epic tale of good vs evil, but within our telling, good and evil are not always what it seems. What defines good? What defines evil? Why does evil seem to prosper while the good perish? One man’s search for immortality awakens an ancient evil, forcing Haze to fight for freedom, identity, faith and love in this thought-provoking tale. As darkness plagues across the Emerald Isle, a light will rise to meet it.
Review: This book was good! I thought the character development was great and the story was interesting. I was really invested in the story and I thought that it was really enjoyable.
I did think the pacing was a bit slow though and the book definitely needs a good editor, but it’s pretty good!
I am going to be honest with you. It is not an easy task to include such powerful notion as religion into your novel and get away with it. It is always a risk. However, our esteemed author handle the task brilliantly. On top of that he went as far as to mix religion with science/technological miracles. Those two ideas are incredibly overwhelming to manipulate in a fictional literature. Haze O'Hagan seemed to have found the golden middle of it.
The novel had its emotional ups and downs starting in a way I didn't expect and led me to an ending that was quite shocking and open-ended.
You have to meet the Devil of Dublin and his family because his tale is one to be heard.
This book was kindly provided to me by the author, so thank you!
I loved this book! I don’t read many futuristic sci-fi books but this one definitely stands out. I loved the setting and the Irish slang used. This book was fun and easy to read, with short chapters and exciting events happening! It was a fast paced novel perfect for any sci-fi and just young adult lovers in general.
I also loved that fact that it takes place in 2050. It’s so interesting to see how advanced the world would be in that time.
So overall it’s a powerful and fast-paced novel, which I would recommend reading!
I was gifted a copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review
What a thrilling story this was. Haze O'Hagan has created a fantastic futuristic sci-fi world. Robots, angels, demons, and the violence... YES!! The story is fast paced and easy to read. The characters are well developed and the relationships within the book felt genuine. I feel that this is a book that could get non-reading young-adults into reading.
What I like the most about this book is it contains multiple of genres: romance, thriller, action, supernatural, horror and Christian fiction. Needless to say that this book got me to be in the rollercoaster of emotions. In addition, there are few times I feel as if the author is prophesying of the things to come in a fictional way. That was my first time for feeling this way and kudos to the author for his unique way of weaving this tale.
Thank you to the author for sending me the ARC! Thank you for your trust. Here is my review:
How would I summarize that book.
Futuristic. Supernatural. Captivating.
To be honest the beginning got me confused but that didn't last long.
The story is set in Dublin in 2050. Even if the world seems similar to ours nowadays, due to some kind of technology it is absolutely not the case. What the technology can do to improve our bodies is insane. But this is so much more than that. During the whole story the author will talk about two main subjects: technology and faith. Which is not always something easy to talk about. I'm not a religious person but that didn't bother me at all. As the story didn't feel preachy. The main character Haze is just a teenager but one day after some unusual meeting, he will see himself thrown in a world he doesn't totally understand yet. Power, Evil, Angels, Family, Friendship, Hope... and so much more.
I think that the second part of the book make me feel every possible emotion on Earth. I was hooked and needed to know what was going to happen.
It is basically a fast-paced book with lots of conversation between the characters. To be fair, I usually prefer a story where the word is described through the characters point of views, and not really when it is explained to us like this is it, that is that, it works this way etc but I get why it was done this way. It's humorous and I couldn't definitely see the book as a movie. I loved that book because if you're not a religious people you still can have faith in your family, friends, etc. If you're a religious person, I don't think there is anything that could offend you.
I wasn't a fan of the Irish slang (I guess it was Irish) or the way it was spelt but that's probably because English is not my first language, and as I don't even understand slang in my own language I'm not a fan of slang in general. But I manage to understand the general context of every single situation.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and I believe that with a bit of editing it would be a great addition to any bookshelves if you're a fan of futuristic, intriguing and fast-paced books
Haze: The Devil of Dublin is set in a futuristic Dublin. It mixes science fiction, supernatural elements, a bit of comedy, and tons of action. This book is fast-paced and thrilling. I haven’t read a science fiction novel in a long time, but this one definitely held my interest. I especially enjoyed the use of Irish slang throughout, and I was also intrigued by the introductions of futuristic technologies. The idea of combining science with the supernatural is such an interesting take on a sci-fi novel. This is a story of justice, good versus evil, and vengeance. I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for an original, action-packed story set in a futuristic society.
I was lucky enough to be gifted a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I'll be honest prior to reading it I was unsure how much I would engage with this story, as sci-fi typically isn't my thing. However the fusion of sci-fi/fantasy/young-adult/action themes really worked for me and I enjoyed it!
The story was faced paced and you are thrown into it immediately. I loved how it utilised Irish Slang, especially with the banter between Haze and Chris. It added humour and a uniqueness to the story. The book channelled 'Blade Runner' vibes with the futuristic component and bravely explored topics such as religion and the existence of a god quite well.
In the future I would love to read the hard copy of this book as I felt reading it electronically potentially effected my engagement with the story. I just don't get as consumed with a plot when a 'screen' is involved, I'm a hard copy book kind of gal.
I'm keen to hear if Haze has been writing a sequel.
I'm glad I read something different, it was totally worthwhile!
Firstly I would like to thank the author for my eARC of this fab book. This is an amazing book. It is based in Dublin in the future. It did not disappoint full of futuristic happenings, suspense. It will make you laugh and of course it would not be complete without it’s fair share of danger. It is a fast moving and it flowed well. Characters are strong, interesting and well written. Plot is excellent. If you like science. Things that are based in the future then this is the book for you. This book could easily be a series. The question remains....... will there be a book 2?
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I'm giving this 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
I loved the premise of this story! My issues with it are mostly about editing and grammar/punctuation. Some of the sentences seemed spotty and I had to reread a bit to figure it out.
In a future where science has made magical leaps and is prevalent everywhere, a boy finds himself at the center of the age old battle between good and evil. Haze O'Hagan finds he has been cursed, and as the "Devil of Dublin", he has the power to use these new found powers for the greater good. As his favorite superhero says, "with great power, comes great responsibility." Now, Haze must find a way to stop the evil force that is trying to take the world over.
I honestly loved all the geekiness in this story! The nod to superheros was awesome! I'm not a fan of overly religious premises, and while it did feel just a bit preachy at times, it wasn't too overly done. I did find I had issues with the plot at times, as if bits were missing, but I feel it may just be in need of editing. I'm excited to see where this story goes, it's got great potential!
I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Let me tell you, when I read that blurb I was a bit skeptical but intrigued. I live in Ireland myself and have visited Dublin many times so I was quite eager to read a novel set there.
The book itself is very original and exciting to read. The story has some great moments of humor but also manages to captivate the readers interest and keep it until the very end. Haze is a great character, I would love to read more and I really hope we will get a sequel.
I give this book 5 stars all around. Please read it!!!!

Parts of this tale struck my heart, and that needs to be said. Books written in the near future aren’t usually my type, because I find them strange, the timing being so close to the present, but everything in it being so advanced. This, book, however, was great when it came to picturing the types of technology that the future would contain. I loved how it contained flaws, but was still advanced. I find that that is very important. While humans are advanced, a big percentage don’t even believe in global warming, and that is alarming. I was captured by the antagonist, and I can’t help but believe that the intentions were close to what each one of us wants— to know more, to discover new power, to not be inferior. That’s what I saw on the antagonist, at least. The protagonist was also very relatable, making jokes and sarcastic comments—that’s what we are all about, after all. Seeing that in a loose way, it was nice. I was a bit confused by the story at first, but as I was sucked deeper into the book and the plot, I began to enjoy it.

Haze: The Devil of Dublin is a scifi book showing a battle between good and evil based in 2050 Dublin and if you like scifi elements then you are gonna love it. because-
1. there are various advanced and refreshed imagined technologies described throughout the book so oil your imagination for a ride.
2. They are damn cool you wanna own them.
3. The improvement shown in this book for a world in future you absolutely want to live in it.
HAZE is adventurously good. It is action packed, fast paced and chillingly good. There is a clear division showed between evil and good and described nicely. I think it took a little time to settle in as there are so many new things are being introduced as the plot is based on future.
The chemistry showed between the protagonist and his love interest is practical and Haze has a cute family.I loved the interaction between the characters. The dialogue between them are very much relatable. What disturbed me is the immatured behaviour of the protagonist in some cases or scenarios where his background somehow shouldn’t made him act like that. But I cannot complain as he is a teenager and teenager get excited having superpowers or cool things.
As a reader you will love the small bookish or nerdish references given in this book. but as a fast paced book it lacked the depth in some scenarios in my opinion.
This is the book you definitely want to see on screen and root for the hero.

This book is set in Dublin in 2050 and follows the journey of Haze as he uncovers that he was cursed as a young boy after he sees his father die.
The story starts out with Flick Technology and the creator Patrick Lynch. This is the beginning of a whole new world. As Flick progresses, people are able to do so much more; cure diseases, grow back body parts, and protect themselves from harm. Haze’s father and old friend “Big Red” witness something that ends their lives. As Haze grows up he is visited by an angel and starts to uncover the truth about the devil inside.
This is a wonderful book about good vs. evil and where the lines are drawn. It challenges who is the judge of life and morals. As technology grows, the people begin to lose faith and realize that all they need is this Flick technology.
Who is judging you? And what determines what is right or wrong? Even if you do not believe in a higher power, there is probably still some type of faith within you. Whether it is with your family, or passions, something is driving you to do better and be better.
There is also the subject of technology. It wasn’t so long ago that there were many conversations around AI and the advancements that were going to be coming our way. Although we haven’t quite reached the level of Flick technology, our world is changing. Even now there is the discussion about how we spend too much time plugged in, not with other people. What happens when the scale shifts and things are no longer balanced?
This is a very entertaining story with messages that could relate to present day. The Flick technology is what drew me in when I started to read. I have always been interested in 3D printing with cells, so it reminded me of a smarter version of that. After the beginning of the story, I had a harder time staying interested. Once the story revolved more around Haze though (pretty close to the beginning), I did not have an issue.
This is a thought provoking story with great characters and a great story line. It was filled with action and had a good amount of plot twists to keep the story interesting. I would definitely recommend this to others.
The e-copy I read was a pre-launches version. Things may change before final publication.
