PULSE is a standalone, full romance novel with no cliffhanger and a HEA.
Leah Allen The last thing I needed was another bad boy.
Hard muscles. Handsome. Hot tattoos. He had a dangerous, I don't give a f*** attitude that made him irresistible.
It was supposed to be a one-night stand, but when Dad introduced Chris as my new stepbrother, I knew I was in trouble. His world of gangs and violence would destroy me. I needed to stay away.
Why do I find that impossible?
Chris Belzer Drugs, fights, death. A typical Wednesday. Meeting Leah changed everything—music coursed through my veins when we f***ed. I knew she would be the key to escaping the quicksand I'd been mired in for ten years.
I shouldn't want her. I couldn't resist her. Breaking out of the crime and blood and into a new life would be impossible without her.
ATTENTION: PULSE contains mature subject matter including sex, drugs, and violence. Please be over the age of 18.
D.G. Whiskey is a world traveller who uses experiences earned and relationships forged on the road to create vivid portraits of humanity. Number of countries visited is over 18 and climbing rapidly, with innumerable friends made along the way.
The heroes are always hot alphas and the heroines are clever and independent. The writing is confident, sexy and layered.
I found this to be a very enjoyable book. I was hesitant at first to read it because the blurb says "Drugs" and "world of gangs". I'm not a fan of drugs in books and gangs sort of turn me off. But the overall premise sounded interesting (and I'm a sucker for stepbrother books), so I proceeded ahead. And I'm really glad I did. Once I got into this, I couldn't put it down.
I loved the way Chris went after Leah once he saw her. He couldn't get her out of his mind and he had to have her. They also had wickedly hot chemistry!
Even though this was a stepbrother book, I never really felt that beyond the initial wedding weekend scene. Chris and Leah spent time together and yes, it was mentioned a few times, but there was no real family interaction to force the issue and Chris's mom was even trying to play matchmaker between them before she knew about them hooking up.
This was my first book by DG Whiskey but it won't be my last!
I had never heard of this author before reading Pulse...and OMG what a happy introduction that was for me. This book is everything I love...a couple meeting after a traumatic event occurs (rebound sex is the best!), finding out your bad-boy really sort of IS a bad-boy but with heart and fighting for your dreams and actually achieving them. The chemistry between Chris and Leah was HOTTT and even though the market is absolutely full of way too many stepbrother type romances, I really did enjoy the different twists that this book had. Well written with a very engrossing and likable lead couple that had me reading straight through in one sitting (best kind of books!) So if you like a little violence and danger (and plenty of steamy sex) with your romances, this book is the one for you. A beautiful fairytale ending had me smiling a lot, but this one still had plenty of "danger" appeal to make it not too mushy. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
***** 4.5 ***** "music and love make the world go 'round" stars
2.5 BORED out of my mind stars. First, I have to say that I don't think that this should be a "step-sibling" book. Chris and Leah are adults, and living life as adults. Their parents happen to marry each other. The author tried to make it taboo, it didn't work. The story itself was not bad, and I liked both of the characters. I was just so "blah" reading it. I ended up not caring about Chris, Leah or the ending.
A glance was all it took between Leah and Chris for to know there were attracted to each other. Then what was meant to be a one-night stand turned into more for both and not just the best best of their lives. Leah an aspiring actress and Chris dreaming of making music in and out of the bedroom, with Leah who he can't get over. They meet again when it is revealed they're to becoming step siblings. All the time fighting their attraction to one and other you learn about there lives, passions and struggles. It's only Leah mostly that sees their relationship as wrong, but she can't deny the attraction and spark the have to each other. Leah helps out Chris to become what he's good and in return helping out her own career in the meantime. In the end after some rough times and much deliberations they decided to give in to temptation.
Overall it was good quick read. Different to the usually stepbrother books. I would recommend for anyone tempted to try this genre.
I was graciously gifted a copy of this book and the premise of it drew my attention immediately. As much as I wanted to love this book, I found that it was just ok for me. I applaud this author's effort and look forward to her growth in the future. Sometimes a new author starts out with a bang and some new authors start out slower and that's OK because I love to follow and see how much the author grows from her starting point! I would love to see her writing mature, develop at a steadier pace and maybe mold the characters a bit "tighter" if you will but hey everyone starts out somewhere and I always give new authors a second chance and believe it or not, that second chance is usually always worth it for me...at least in my own experience:)
Although, I found that this book needed a bit of work with the storyline and/or rather telling of the story and that's just my own personal opinion, I feel that the future looks promising for her and I wish her the best!
I loved this book.. Chris and Leah heat up the pages.. this was a bonus book after Shaken. I've never read anything by D.G. Whiskey before but she's a great story teller.. both these books were very good..
First I was given this book as a ARC for a HONEST review.LOVED IT
UHG,and that (UGH) not in a bad way I just want to give this book the justice think it deserves in my opinion. Oh how i didnt want to put this book down. This is not like all the other stepbrother romances out there. The characters are well developed, and the sex scenes are hot.The sexual tension is so tight between these two you could cut it with a knife.I liked that Pulse, start with a bang and .Leah and Chris first lock eyes outside on the street the night Chris watch as his friend lie dying and Leah catches her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend. The following night Leah goes out with her friend Tyra looking for rebound sex or just a one night stand and Chris is just that man. Leah and Chris live in the city .They meet again unexpectanly at there parents up comming wedding in the county. That's when Leah told Chris he was to dangerous and she could see him. Leah 's dad Jerry offers Chris a job because he gave up alot when his father died to help his mom take care of his family.Chris turns him down because he doesnt want to leave the city because Chris is trying to get his mark in the music industry started .Chris works in a warehouse .Chris's friends are kinda a gang they also work at the warehouse and they are some shadey characters . Leah is a third year performing arts student at NYU. Leah wants to pressue a acting career.Leah and Chris run itno each other at starbucks and start to chat and get to know each other.Chris tell Leah his passion for creating music and that she heard it at his place and she was in aww about it she told him she would love to have it for her playlist she enjoyed she never heard nothing like it befor. Leah invites Chris to a party her friend are thrownig for her. Chris goes to the party (pisses off his gang because he is a no show when he is suppose to be with them).Chris meets some of Leah's friends.Leah gets the lead in the play.Leah and Chris start spending a lot of time together. He helps her run her line for the play. Leah and her friends help Chris with his music.Chris decides his job at the warehouse and hanging with the gang is not the right life he needs ,so he quites his job and stops hanging with the gang. Leah gets Chris a job playing his music a party for a lot of people and one thing leads to another and talks about good night. Leah and Chris relationship starts there. Chris and Leah get attacked by the gang one night.Leah tells Chris she can nolonger see him..Things start to go down hill once Leah stop talking to him after the attack so did everyone eals.So Chris had no choice but to call his mother Mary and tells her about him and Leah. Tells his mom he quite his job and stoped hanging aroud with the gang and was wanting to know if Jerry still had that job to offer him... Leah gets she has always dreamed of but never thought would come so soon. Leah goes to see Chris there was someone the party Chris play his music at that has been trying to get a hold of him. Leah wanted to give him the info in person because she was happy for him ,and also wanted to tell him her news to. There is so much to this book i enjoyed I cant wait to read more books by D.G.Whiskey

I enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. Leah and Chris meet just in passing on the first night and he knows he just had to know her and she vows to keep away from him if they ever pass each other again. They meet again the next night in a club after Leah discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her. Her friend had convinced Leah to go and have some rebound sex and they flirt and awesome sexual chemistry and end up having sex. They find out the next day that they are going to be step siblings and Leah struggles with it. Chris has no problems with carrying on with their relationship but Leah keeps pushing him away but Chris doesn't give up. They end up being friends for a while even though there is a lot of sexual tension there in the background but they ignore it. Chris is in a crew but the more time he spends with Leah, he realises how much potential he has himself with his music! Leah encourages him to purse it and even gets him a gig. Leah is an aspiring actress and she land a a role in an off Broadway play but she thinks the cast weaker than her even if she does think the play could have potential. Chris helps her with lines and he seems like he can't do enough for her! They finally give in and start to date and one night he is jumped and Leah is nearly raped And he protects her. He threatens to kill the men who done that to them but all Leah is concerned about herself at this point and blames everything on him which I didn't like cos he has been nothing but supportive. Leah gets a phone call to get an audition in LA and she if she gets it she has to live there. She then goes around to Chris and gives him a message that some famous music producer wants him too. They end up airing their differences and tell each other they love each other and promise to wait for each other. This is not your typical step brother romance. It not rammed with sex which I liked! Their parents did react the way I thought they would have. The only ones who had a problem with them being together was themselves. The characters could have been explored a bit more but overall this book was good.
***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review***
This story literally starts off with a bang. What a way to start off a story and that is how I like my stories. Leah Allen meets Chris Belzer after a night where a traumatic event occurs for both. They end up at the same bar and after a few drinks , end up having an incredible night in bed with him.after she lost a bet to him. Chris runs with a rough crew of guys but really wants to be an EDM DJ; while Leah wants to be an actress. After that one night with Chris, she didn’t expect to see him again but her dad called her up and asked her to meet him for a dinner and introduced his new wife along with Chris as the new step-brother. From then on, it was hard to keep away, because the attraction was intense. The chemistry between the MC is so great, you can see it. There is a great storyline here , it isn’t just about a typical storyline about a step-brother storyline. There is repercussions when Chris wants out of the “crew” he is in and wants to break free to DJ music. Also how his relationship with Leah progresses. There is a beautiful storyline , the twists and turns that show. Read this story til the every end to find out if they stay together or do they fall apart. I promise you will NOT be disappointed. I truly enjoyed the alpha male Chris was yet the sensitive side he had ; Leah was strong woman who knew what she wanted but also had her doubts and the emotions she went thru . The conflicts she had which led to some actions she made. This was such a great story that I cannot wait to read another book by this author.
It started out very promising, drama student Leah is walking to her boyfriends apartment when she comes upon the scene of a shooting. She makes contact with the hot guy (Chris) who is a friend of the victim with bad boy written all over him then quickly leaves only to find her boyfriend banging her best friend. She's not too broken up about the boyfriend but the friends betrayal stings.
The next night she runs into Chris at a club they flirt, play pool and they hook-up, I have to say it's a hot encounter. She runs out the next day and then they meet up at their parents rehearsal dinner.
This is where it goes south and Leah becomes a selfish bitch for the rest of the book. Saying she doesn't want him, that it's wrong because they're related. ****Side bar here - What is with the adults whose parents marry feeling like it's so taboo for them together? They aren't blood related or even raised together. It might awkward but it's really just a bad plot device to create conflict***End
So they spend time together with Leah sending mixed signals, pushing her best friend at him and telling her to sleep with him (!!!) then jealous and relieved when they don't. She's pursuing acting he wants to be a DJ it all just became so boring.
Chris a supposed bad-ass with a "crew" came off as wimpy when it came to Leah when I wanted him to shake some sense into her. There were not any sweet moments between them and aside from the first sex scene there was no spark. Disappointing.
I was very surprised when I started reading this book. I have never read a stepbrother romance before, and I will admit, going in I was a little skeptical. In saying that, I was utterly blown away by this book. I loved everything about it. The music, the acting, the writing skill D.g. Whiskey shows it amazing. Leah is a strong character. She works hard for her dreams and I really enjoyed learning about her. Chris, is actually the same. He did have things a bit harder in life, but he did the best he could with what choices he had. I really thought these two together was a perfect match. They helped one another through a lot and became really close. I thought there might be a little more about how their parents acted when they found out about the two of them dating, but honestly their parents didn’t act the way I thought they would. If anything, it was Chris and Leah who thought it was wrong to be together more than anyone else in the book. Overall, I really did love this book. I was shocked really at how fast I read it and how I couldn’t put it down. There is also some humor and times that leave you wondering what the other was thinking. To me, this book has just the right amount of everything all wrapped up in one package. I really can’t wait to see what D.g. Whiskey comes out with next. Highly, highly recommend reading this!!
Chris is a warehouse worker who runs with a tough crew. He had potential for more in his life but after his dad passed he became the man of the house and dropped out of school to provide for his family. His true passion is being an EDM DJ but he just needs to catch a break.
Leah is a student at NYU in the theater program. The first time she sees Chris is when she is passing by where his friend has just been shot and killed. She sees him again when at a club with her friends and they have a one night stand.
Leah goes away for the weekend to meet her dads fiance and Chris is her new stepmoms son. Leah is trying to stay away from him but Chris is determined to make her his again.
Chris and Leah built a really good friendship but the chemistry they had was still always hovering around. I like that he story was about more than the romance. Chris was caught between loyalty with his crew and trying to become a better person and not for Leah but for himself. I don't want to spoil the story but this book was really good and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I've read several stepbrother romances that you felt were taboo. Without giving away spoilers I will say I did not feel this one was taboo. Usually there are heavy sex scenes, not so much in this one. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just not what I had expected.
I didn't feel the chemistry for the main characters. The way they handled certain situations were bothersome and frustrating. As for their individual storylines and struggles to make it in their dream jobs didn't hold my attention at all. I got tired of Summer constantly giving mixed signals, pushing him away, and judging him after saying she really didn't know much about him at al.
This book was pretty well written however, with limited editorial errors. But I always focus on the story instead of grammatical errors since reading is about being able to relate to the characters or imagine the world they live in and feel it. Unfortunately, I didn't feel it. So I give this book 2.5 stars but I always like to round up..
Pulse is described as a Stepbrother Romance, however, for me this was just a small aspect of the story and to be honest it didn't feel like a Stepbrother romance.
Overall I enjoyed the story, however, what stopped it being a great read was that certain elements just felt a little rushed at times. For example, I would have liked to have been given a deeper insight of Chris's time in the crew and at the times, his drug use seemed to just get brushed over. I would also have liked to have seen more scenes specifically between Chris and Leah were they were building on their relationship as I feel this would have helped me buy into their emotional connection.
Chris and Leah were nice characters and their chemistry is believable and there were some steamy scenes, however, I would have liked to see more angst between them just to ramp the story up a little.
All in all this was an ok read for me; it was a sweet romance story with a HEA.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Chris and Leah meet the night after Chris watches a friend die from a gunshot and Leah catches her boyfriend and best friend in bed together. Tyra and some other friends decide that Leah needs to go out with them and have a rebound hook-up. Leah saw Chris the night before kneeling beside his friend outside of O'Malley's bar and felt a connection, but she knew he was dangerous and not for her. At Swim, she lets Chris buy her a drink and agrees to a game of pool. She goes home with Chris after losing the bet. They hook up and Leah disappears. The next time they see each other, they learn they are going to be step-brother and step-sister. Leah tries to fight her attraction to Chris since they are now step-siblings. I recommend reading this book to learn what she does to try to do just that. We also get to learn what their passions are and what drives them. I recommend this book if you're looking for a quick read.

Review of Pulse: A Stepbrother Romance by D.G. Whiskey My Rating 4 Pulsing Stars D.G. Whiskey is a new author for me, and I’m really happy to have had the opportunity to read such a story. This isn’t your typical Stepbrother romance that the book world has been trending, This is a true love story. The chemistry between Chris and Leah is off the charts hot, the storyline was incredible we were given a couple that you wanted more of, and the sex…. Whoa it’s melt your panties kind of hot! The story was suspenseful with hints of danger and a alpha male bad-boy in his truest form. This story is worth reading. * Received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* * Reviewer for Hellmouth’s Bookblog & Reviews *
Leah is an aspiring actress at NYU. Chris is a tatted up bad boy, hottie who works at a warehouse.
All it takes is one glance outside a club... Suddenly, Chris has to know this girl.
One hot night... And neither can forget it. Not just because its the hottest sex they have had EVER! That helps, but how often do you have sex with your soon to be stepsister.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. So here it is:
It was ok. I had trouble staying interested in the story. There weren't any scenes to really grab you and make you feel for the characters.
Is it good? Yes. Is it great? Not in my opinion. It was a tame step love story. Were there steamy scenes? yeah. Were they red hot? NO.
ARC given in exchange for an honest review. This book surprised me. I expected a fairly cookie cutter story based on the description. However, this book was original and I didn't want to put it down! The characters meet before they know they are becoming step siblings. The sex scenes are HOT! I loved that both characters were strong people. Leah, in particular, was a refreshing change - she was an independent woman who ended up supporting the male character, Chris. In all, this was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author! This book took me 2 hours to read. I recommend it if you enjoy: Jenika Snow, Laramie Briscoe, or Maya Banks.
First i just want say that I really did enjoy this book. In fact i couldn't put it down after starting it. But since i was asked for an honest review then that is what i will give.
The main reason for the 4 stars is because i thought the writing style or language style used for Chris just didn't suit him. It felt he should have been a bit more gruff, maybe could have been a bit more dirty with how he spoke. I just thought he was too proper and so it felt hard to relate to.
Also although the sex scenes where good they were few and far between but they were well written and HOT
I received this book from the author for an honest review. This is my first book that I read by this author, I was impressed with the story. It wasn't just about sex, don't get me wrong there was plenty but the story didn't focus on that. It focused on how Leah and Chris got together, all the problems that happened.
Chris and Leah were a good couple I thought. Chris was a typical bad boy but after he met Leah he changed, all for the good. My favorite part was the rehearsal dinner for their parents wedding.
This was an very enjoyable story that read quite quickly. Definitely will read more by this author.
I was gifted a copy of this story for my honest review and the beginning definitely peaked my interest immediately. The chemistry between Leah and Chris was off the charts!!! The tension between the two was so thick you could cut it with a knife lol. I was not a fan of his friends and was glad that he didn't let that stop him from reaching his goals. Leah at times I wanted to smack upside the head with her self righteous attitude at times towards Chris. I am glad that she came to her senses later in the story.
The book was an enjoyable read, nice job for a debut author. I can't wait to see what the author comes out with next. Great job!!!!
Wow, what a great book this was. I enjoyed reading Pulse this was a first time read by this author. I was hooked on the first page and couldn't put down my kindle. This cover is smoking hot and yum! I loved Leah and Chris they were so hot together and the sex scenes were hot as well. Leah was a strong independent woman and Chris was ubber sexy. They meet before they become step siblings which I thought was a great surprise all in its own. I highly recommend this book if you like stepbrother romance novels.
This turned out to be just an okay for me. There wasn't much angst or build up on the taboo subject. It's meant to be a stepbrother romance but it didn't feel like that at all. It was kind of flat sometimes but I kept reading hoping something would happen to set this read apart but truthfully it didn't happen. Then BOOM the end.. HEA
In the end there just really wasn't enough build up for me. Not with their relationship, the taboo aspect or the over all plot.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review. I've read various stepbrother romances but I have to say that Pulse is a very spicy and well written story line by D.G. Whiskey and my first book from her. I really enjoyed, once I started reading it, couldn't put it down. I'll be looking forward for her next books. The chemistry between Chris and Leah was off the charts....no spoilers from me sorry! An enchanting and emotional ending had me smiling to the last page, thanks so much!
Finally,, a complete story! Beginning, middle and ending that has the reader entertained. Beautifully written, bad boy meets good girl on a horrible night. They soon discover that their relationship is going to be closer than they could imagine and in ways they would never have thought possible. Chance meetings, choices made, careers changed make for happy living for everyone involved! Roll cameras and cue the music for this hit !!
I received an ARC in exchange or an honest review. So, in the interest of being honest, this book didn't wow me, but it wasn't bad. For probably the first half of the book I wasn't that engaged in the story and I didn't connect with the characters, especially Leah. I did find the second half of the book took an upturn and was much more interesting. I finally cared about the characters and their story.
