Riley had spent her entire life terrified of the shadows and darkness that followed her everywhere she went. They ruined her chances at a normal childhood and tormented her throughout her teenage years, labeling her the freak in her hometown, but now was her chance to start over. After receiving her acceptance letter from Bradford University, a chance at a new life and new friends in a town far away from home filled Riley with such hope for the future, but never had she dreamed of meeting the most gorgeous guy on campus. Not only was he attractive, but the shadows were chased away whenever he was near. Riley hoped she could hold on to him, but how could she hope for so much when she had only ever had so little?
Reymend may look like just another student at Bradford University, but his world was greater than any mortal could understand. He was blessed by the Light, trained to be a Guardian, a warrior against the shadows of Midnight that plagued Touched souls in the never ending battle of Light and darkness. It was his duty to protect those souls, and his next Charge was Riley. She didn’t understand the shadows that followed her relentlessly, but one day, she was going to be stronger than any Guardian in the history of the Light, if the darkness didn’t claim her first.
Lindsay Chamberlin is an author who is self publishing her own works. She grew up in Northern Virginia and has been writing since she was a teenager. She would constantly write in a journal, including her day to day life and random thoughts that she found noteworthy.
When she graduated from high school with English Honors and Math Honors, she knew her life would go in one of two ways. She would either become a writer or work in finance.
Finance won. Until recently, she did not think her dream of being a known author would ever come true, but thanks to self publishing, she is finally able to get her work out to the public in hopes that they will enjoy her short stories, novels, and select poems.
Her wish for her readers is that they will find themselves within her novels, living out every scene with the characters as if they were there with them.
Books are meant for our silent escape into another world that would normally exist only in our dreams. Please, enjoy!
I won this book from the giveaways on Goodreads.com in exchange for an honest review.
First of all, I loved that this book's setting was less than a hour and a half from where I live currently. And bonus points for mentioning Macado's which is one of my favorite places to eat, although I have never been to the one in Radford. The University is called Bradford in the book but was obviously based on Radford University in Radford, Virginia. And I am curious if there is a real story about the island out in the New River there. But anyways....this is off topic. It's just rare to find books who's setting is close to where I live. I liked the book but I did feel like I was constantly waiting for the story line to progress and then it just stops. I have no answers, what is going to happen? I guess that means I have to read book two to figure out what happens to the characters in this book. Riley, the MC, doesn't always make the best decisions. But what college freshman does? It was kind of like when you are watching a scary movie and you are yelling at the screen "No, don't run up the stairs!". I felt like that a lot when it came to Riley. However there is room for her to grow and mature. Which I really hope she does Like I said, I guess I will be reading book two if I want to find out what happens.
I won this book via Goodreads giveaway. The storyline sounded interesting; however it is definitely in the young adult fantasy category. I enjoyed reading the story...and then it just STOPS. No conclusion to end this first in a series novel. Abrupt. The end. While the cliffhanger ending was a disappointment, I had a major problem with the novels lack of a proofreader. This just pushes my buttons. The author uses the wrong words and even the wrong tense. My thought was that the author was not a native English speaker. That does not appear to be the case based on her bio. However, the novel is self-published, which is telling. Note to author: one example of a misused word appearing more than once is wonder versus wander. Different meanings.

She has been haunted by the shadows for so long and labelled as a freak. She decides to move away and she finds him. He seems to chase the shadows away. What she does not know is he is there to help her become a guardian of the light if the darkness does not get her first. See how they will get on

The book started slow, but the more I read the more I was sucked in. The author is great with words and building the characters. I am excited for a book two, I'm sad that I do not know what happens next. What is going to happen with Riley? Will the Guardians trying to protect her find the answers they are seeking?
This book was fantastic. Loved Ray for Riley. Shocked at the ending. I cannot wait to see what happens. So much action and drama. Hope to read the next book. Really loved this book.

I won this book through the GoodReads giveaways. I enjoyed the book and felt the story line was well thought and original. The author does a good job with mixing action and romance. What would improve the book would be tighter editing. Be prepared for a cliffhanger ending!
