When Mick O’Malley left Boston and casted aside his family with IRA ties, he never imagined finding solace within a club of Bounty Hunters. At 25 years old, he’d given up on love and trust and counted on only one person to get him through life—himself. When Mick finds himself doing a protection gig as a favor to his new mentor, he finds the one girl who can alter his out of whack views. But he’s there to do a job, not fall in love with a girl who is off-limits. Mick was committed to protecting Everly and not failing his boss for a second time. But what’s the harm in one kiss? One time? One night? Everly Moore was ready for her “real life” to begin. She had a lifelong dream of moving to New York to write music professionally. She didn’t realize the danger her father’s job had placed on her, or the fact that her new sexy and confident neighbor Mick O’Malley was sent there to protect her. Mick knows how lies and secrets can destroy trust. Hell, he’s lived with those his whole life, but when those secrets are meant to protect her, he has no choice but to continue the deception. When his secrets and lies are revealed, will it be too late to save Everly or will their need for one another beat the odds?
Young Adult/ New Adult author. Lover of books, fine wine, chocolate, and movies. Mom to two awesome kids, and one insanely crazy boxer, who keeps me busy.
Received a Copy Overall Rating 4 Stars I thought when I started the book That I would not like it, but I end up loving this book. I thought it was a fantastic book. I liked Mick, I thought at some spots he was kind of cocky but in a good way. I found the story to be unique and interesting. It held my attention all the way through. Mick has a job to protect Everly, and he knows she is off limits. But can they both keep their hands off each other? I don't want to give the story away. But I do recommend this book. Great Job!
I loved it!!! The author made you feel like you were there with Mack and Every. They went through the gates of hell and back..not knowing who to trust. in the end, they found solace in each other. This is the first book to read by this author, but definitely not the last!!!
I don't think I ever get tired of the storyline of the strong protector falling in love with the woman he's just supposed to be protecting. I know it's so cliche and it's been done so many times before... but I love it each time. And the more the protector has been warned against it... or has said that it's not happening... the better it is. I love it even more if the woman also has reasons to keep her distance. It just makes it so satisfying if they finally do give in.
I really enjoyed the characters in Embracing Everly. Not only were Mick and Everly really well fleshed out... but the supporting characters, especially Dawson, were also really well done. I also loved the little details that kept made Mick and Everly's story so endearingly THEM. Like the song Mick would hear Everly singing through his wall... or his remembering the tea she likes...
No story spoilers... but I loved the little twists that happened closer to the end of the book. There were just so many times I thought I knew exactly what would happen next... and then I'd be surprised.
I can imagine from the prologue's focus on Dawson and Thomas (Everly's God-Father and Father), and the story of Mick protecting Everly as a member of Dawson's bounty hunter "club", the this could easily turn into a series of bounty hunter romances. I'd also love to hear the story about Mick's twin sister in Ireland.
>I received this book from the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. I am an independent reviewer. This is a standalone novel that ends in an HEA.
>On the surface this story seems pretty typical; a bad boy bounty hunter protecting a good girl college student from afar and falling for her. The meat of this story is anything but typical. Mick is so flawed and constantly makes huge relationship mistakes, but that is what makes the story so real. His reactions to his growing relationship with Everly are so accurate. Dawson, Mick's boss and Everly's dad's friend, uses reverse psychology to get Mick and Everly together. Dawson seems like a stand up guy, but the prologue scene seemed so out of character for him. I didn't think it was needed. The story would have worked if just Dawson and Thomas grew apart and met up later, after 15 years.
>The alpha male is back with Mick protecting Everly from her ex. I love these scenes. Mick is perfect, in that respect. The job he is protecting Everly for was kind of a let down. The threat shows up only at the end and is not described in too much detail to make it very suspenseful. The epilogue made up for the lack with a promising look into the future.
25 year old Mick O'Malley trusted no one. Relying only on himself until he become a member of the "family" a group of bounty hunters picking up where the law leaves off. After a botch job, Mick is sent off on babysitting detail to the one girl that could make him want more than the one night stands he's use to. Problem is , she was only supposed to be a job. And Mick is finding it hard to protect her, almost as hard as it is for him to protect his heart.
I love and devoured this book. I couldn't put it down it was so good with a plot that seemed almost predictable I was truly surprised when I found myself more shocked with each step. I love how the characters had a balance of strength and weaknesses which they complemented each other so well. The supporting characters were awesome and I hope there is prequel considered. Either way I will be following and am looking forward to reading more by this author. Happy Reading!
Everly Moore was a college student who sang in clubs to get by. Her dad, Thomas was best friends with Dawson even though they had gone separate ways years before. Thomas worked for the CIA undercover. He called his friend, Dawson, who had a group of biker bounty hunters to help keep an eye on Everly. The people he was trying to take down didn't know about Everly but he feared they could find out. Dawson sent his youngest recruit, Mich O'Malley to watch her from a distance. He went undercover as a student and got an apartment next door. Everly was a lot more than he expected and he loved to hear her sing at night in the apartment next door. This is a great story. I hated to put it down last night and finish today. It has mystery, suspense, tears and most of all romance. You will love this one. This book does contain profanity and sex scenes so it is not for everyone.
I did not see many things coming and they were a little heartbreaking. This book made me tear up with sadness and grin at Mick's humor. It was interesting to watch the story of Mick and Everly unfold. Mick is the man who has it easy when it comes to nightly conquests and doesn't feel the need to lie about it. Everly is the innocent singer that is searching for "the one." My only problem with this book is that the action scenes were... a little non-existent. If you're going to write about undercover bounty hunters and NARCs then I expect the action scenes to be awesome not just a second long and outside of the character's POV. It felt like a cop out. Anyway, I'm glad I gave this a chance!
I love the "fall in love with the one you were sent to protect" stories and this one is no exception. Mick is heading down a dark path and Dawson realizes it. He sets up Mick to watch over his life long friend's daughter Everly. You get a glimpse into Dawson's background and man is it shitty. We learn a little about his friendship with Thomas (Everlys father) and what caused the friendship to go sour. Thomas is DEA and undercover. He gets word his daughter may be a target. Enter Dawson and Mick. Of course the "no touch" rule is in place but Mick forgets that when he sees and starts to get to know Everly. This is a great story with a HEA and can be read as a stand-alone. I look forward to ready many more books by Kelly Mooney.
Mick's form of baby prevention is old fashioned, "he smiled down at me, pressing a small, gentle kiss to my lips. “Me either. I’ll pull out, yeah." He's an impatient man at times, "a small growl erupted from his throat. “How many more songs before I can take you home?” he asked, breaking the kiss that I hated parting with." Mick sometimes has issues stating how he feels other times he lets his little head dictate his feelings for Everly, "god, I missed you,” I told her. I squeezed her a** with a groan as she shifted. “But, Pedro really missed you." I loved this book Mick was such a manw*** in the beginning but one girl changes that.
*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.* I loved this book. Mick, the bad guy, falling for the good girl. It was romantic, with the over protective bad boy flair we all love. I liked that the relationship actually grows in front of you, instead of it being an instant love and attraction. The end was very suspenseful, but I wish that suspense had been spread out a little more throughout the story. Instead of just the last 25% of the book. It would have made it a 5 star read for me. But as is, this was a wonderful story. It was well written, well edited and a page turning read for me. I didn't want to put it down!
I didn't like the way Mick was so wishy washy. I also don't like to read when the hero is having sex with someone other than the heroine and vise versa.
I don't know I just felt on the fence with this one. Strangely I think I would have liked it if the story was Dawson and Everly. I like that whole taboo older man thing in books.
I wonder if a novella will be made with Dawson since they gave him a prologue which was kind of hot and he was a big part of this book.
I loved this!! I've def needed something to fill the SOA void and this book did a perfect job!!!
Everly and Mick's story was romantic, touching, action packed and STEAMY!!!! As soon as someone is off limits, you just know it's gonna be hot as heck!!!! Oh... and I LOVE stories with "thin walls".
Plus Everly's song selections = perfection!!
I love Kelly Mooney's writing and would recommend this book to all!!!!
I got lucky enough to read the ARC of this book, and once again Kelly has delivered another slam dunk. Mick is everything a woman would want in a man. he's funny, charming, good looking, and protective. Emery is an amazing going woman who falls for the bad boy. I fell in love with these characters and I know that everyone who reads this story will too.
I liked this book, interesting story line, enjoyed the format of the story being told through each characters eyes. Lots of pretty graphic, steamy sex scenes which happened a bit to frequently (I mean we get it already) All in all a decent book and worth a look as long as you are not a prude....then I say skip~
Sweet, quick read. I always loved the reformed man whores and this one did not disappoint. Irish was great and put up a good fight trying to deny himself.
