My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead pets. On occasion I see a once upon a human, too, but mostly it’s just cute little furry beasts who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owner’s impending doom.
No sooner did my biological mother reveal herself than my entire life flew into chaos. Not only is my favorite specter bringing me a serious string of bad luck, but a coffee shop opened down the street from my bakery and they suspiciously sell all the same baked goods that I do—and they’re using my recipes to do it. So when I stumble upon one of the owners as dead as a doornail, I can see why I might be at the top of the suspect list. But believe me when I say offing one of my competitors is the last thing I want to do any day of the year, and especially not on Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air in Honey Hollow and unfortunately, so is murder.
Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with. Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

This is a new series to me and it’s clear I shouldn’t have started with book #6 (as of today, there are 26 books in this series) 😲 I had to read the first chapter at least 3 times to understand the characters and their relationships and each chapter just kept adding new characters for me. So the beginning was completely overwhelming to me and I almost closed the book. If you read this series, then you definitely will not have that same issue.
Regarding the story - suspend disbelief. Yes, it’s paranormal, but beyond that, this town and the people cross cross each other in “interesting” ways. Once again, I believe the plot builds on previous books, so there were some things that didn’t make sense to me. Backstory would have been helpful for me.
I prefer some romance in my books and some action between the sheets and this book had neither. The relationship between Lottie, Noah and Everette was to “triangley” feeling for me and I don’t like triangles. So this element annoyed me. Once again, i’m sure their relationship would be obvious to someone who has read the previous books, but for me it was a frustration point.
I am rounding my 3.5 up to 4 because the overall story and the writing were good. The “who done it” element kept the story moving forward. I did have a correct guess regarding the “who”, but the “why” was nowhere in my realm of thinking.
However, to be clear, I think to really enjoy this book you would have to read others in the series first. I definitely feel this is Not a standalone and if you don’t have the backstory from the previous books you might be quite lost in this book.
The plot was so, so but the real winner was what was happening in the lives of the characters and their interaction with each other. Now Everett has spilled the beans on how he feels and she has just learnt of the secret that Noah hasn't yet told her about himself Keeping Dutch is having an effect. She can see that in the way the coffee shop has encroached on her business and the bad luck that has dogged her. Now one of the new owners is dead and she looks as if she is in the frame for the murder. As she and Everett plunge into the dead girls life they meet up with swingers and prostitution. More bad luck follows and it is getting progressively worse each day. Can they find the person responsible for the murder? Will she have the strength to send Dutch on? What will she do about Everett and Noah especially with the bombshell that rocks her world?
This volume was definitely an improvement regarding the writing, but, overall, it was just mediocre. The “cozy” was there, while the “mystery” was lacking. The murder investigation was entirely overshadowed by the main character’s bad choices in love. I’m really sick of this particular love triangle. Sorry, but I’m not into it. I can see the author dragging the romance for another twenty volumes before the main character finally makes up her mind. No, thanks. For new readers the countless characters with weird names also don’t help. Can authors just stop using niche names? How many people do you know that are named Greer or Keelie? And if you think those names are edgy and cool, then I suggest you read a few studies on the psychological impact of names on kids.
The 6th book in the Murder in the mix series and I still love Lottie. The story of Lottie is very good and very well written. I really love her writing style and I can't wait for the rest of Lottie's story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lottie’s life turns to bad luck. She is burning cupcakes and cookies, not to mention all the stuff that comes down at the end. However, throughout all of this she solves the murder. This is a must-read book!
Okay, so I've made it to book #14 in this series, and I feel like I need to post a review for all the books I've read up to this point. These books rea all set pretty close together, so it's almost like you're reading one big, long story or watching a TV drama or soap opera. There are some really fun, interesting things in these books, and some other things that are problematic.
Things that I like:
The setting - Honey Hollow is one of those adorable little towns that exist almost exclusively in rom-com books or cozy TV shows. Think Stars Hollow, but in Vermont. It's the kind of town that has absolutely no major corporations in the downtown area. No McDonald's, no Walmart's, nothing. Everything is family owned. Every business decorates for whatever event/holiday/season is coming up or going on and everyone in town is always at every event. I'm here for that. If I could find this kind of town in RL, I would be in heaven. I'm sure that some place, somewhere, is like this, and I haven't found it yet, so that's why I'm saying it's almost exclusively in books or shows. But I do really love this little town.
Most of the side characters - I love Keelie and Meg the most of the side characters, but Lainey, Brittany, and even Cormack are fun and have enough quirks to keep them interesting. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are a lot of fun and I want a friend group just like them.
The premise - I'm not going to do spoilers for any of the books, but this isn't really a spoiler, since it is literally the first paragraph in every book. Lottie's power is really cool and something different from the normal cozy mystery realm. She sees ghosts of pets and people who are there to help her solve a murder of someone they are close to. Love this idea. It's really what sets this series apart from the other cozy mystery type stories. The fact that her powers do grow and shift, and her reaction to them, is something that seems like normal reactions.
Everett - I really like Everett. He's understanding, has his own demons, is a calming force on Lottie, and really cares about her. He tells her things that he's hidden from others in the past, which just shows how much he cares for her. And he's willing to give her time to figure things out on her own. He also supports her in everything, but mostly in her investigations. He knows she's going to do whatever it is she's going to do, so he tags along to make sure she's as safe as she can be in the situation. He doesn't try to fit her in a box of his own expectations, but lets her be her own person, which is very refreshing.
Things I'm on the fence about:
Lottie - Yes, the FMC herself. First of all, I do like Lottie. She has a lot of good points, and she genuinely cares about people and is fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She is stubborn and keeps going, no matter what obstacles are in her way. I like that part of her. However, the other part of her is a complete mess. The woman cannot make up her mind about her love life and frankly, it's pretty darn annoying. I get that it's easy to be attracted to two different men at once, but if she actually sat down and looked at how each of them treats her, she would be able to make her choice. That part of her makes her seem kind of airheaded and jealous all the time. I really don't like that treatment of her, even though those are normal emotions and behaviors, and she is relatable. But given how focused she is in her business and the other parts of her life, it's almost like the author is afraid to make a choice for Lottie and make someone mad. Which just leaves everything in a long, drawn-out romantic triangle that no one really asked for.
Things I really don't like -
Both of Lottie's mothers - Look, the backstory of Lottie's birth mom having been a teenage who got pregnant and left her to be adopted by her "parents" is good. Love the back story and the support Lottie gets from her adoptive family is great. But both of her moms act like they are mean girls in high school and the only thing they have to do is fight each other over who has which guy as a boyfriend now. After hearing about how much Miranda loved her deceased husband and spent 10 years not dating, to have her having a revolving door of dates now seems a bit of an overkill. I do think that people can and should have meaningful relationships after their SO's pass on, but her relationships seem so superficial and juvenile. Carlotta, on the other hand, has every reason to distrust men (that we know of. We don't get a whole lot of background on where she was and what happened for the 29 years she was gone), but she just jumps back into competing with Miranda for every man in her life. It's very 1980's soap opera-ish. And really, it's somewhat distracting to the main stories.
The constant repetition - There are certain words/phrases/paragraphs that seem as if they are just lifted from one book and dropped right into the next. Do we really need the first paragraph (which is also the blurb for every single book) about Lottie and her ability to see the dead? Couldn't the author think of a different way to work it in somewhere in the first chapter or so? Why don't we get any background as to why Lottie's powers are suddenly escalating? But nope, just the same "I'm Lottie Lemon and I see dead pets." every single story. Also, why does everyone refer to Lottie almost exclusively as Lottie Lemon? It's not like Lainey comes in and someone always says, "Lainey Lemon!" I'm sure there are multiple ways to keep putting her last name in there, if that's what the author is really wanting to do. And the shoulder shimmy and hip bump. It's like those phrases are used 40-50 times per book. The books are not that long at all. There is no reason for someone's shoulders to do a shimmy every other chapter or so.
Noah - I know this will probably cause some hurt feelings, but Noah is not a likeable character. He is controlling and stalkerish. His and Lottie's meet cute was cute. I enjoyed that. But then, Noah got problematic. I enjoyed the beginning of his relationship with Lottie. He was her pick, and Everett was there in the background, but I was fine with Noah. UNTIL Brittany showed up. Do you mean to tell me in SIX MONTHS Noah couldn't find one second to have a serious conversation with the woman he said he was falling in love with to tell her that his divorce was not finalized yet? Oh, his bad. He "forgot" to tell her. Just like he "forgot" to tell her that he put a tracker on her car. Is that even legal? Oh, and cameras pointing at her front door? Really? Hello, stalker. And when Lottie, who did not want to be the other woman, tells him that yes, she has feelings for him, but she is done with him because of his wife, he refuses to accept that. Instead of figuring out his relationship with Brittany (and Cormack -but that's next), he continuously busts in on Lottie and Everett. That really bothered me. Lottie set boundaries and eventually, when things had settled down, she and Noah could have been really good friends, but he refuses to accept the boundaries. He constantly interrupts Lottie and Everett, breaking in whenever they are alone and making snide comments about Everett. You know who doesn't do that later? Everett. When he tells Lottie to figure out who she wants to be with, he even says no to getting physical with Lottie so she can decide for herself between Noah and Everett. But Noah? Nope, Lottie is his toy and he can't stand other people touching his toys. And then, he "accidentally" gets engaged to Cormack and "can't find a way" to tell her that they are actually not engaged. He takes her on dates. Takes her to dinner. Takes her to relationship counseling. Let's Cormack throw them an engagement party. And through all of this, he keeps telling Lottie that "he just can't figure out how to get Cormack to understand." Idk, dude. Maybe stop taking her on dates? Slap her with a restraining order? You're a detective. Figure it out. OH, and that brings me the worst part of Noah (if you can believe that). He doesn't want a relationship with Lottie. He wants to own her and to put her in a box or on a shelf. The whole first part of their relationship is him telling Lottie to stay out of everything and be a good girl and get back in the kitchen. Look, I get she's a baker and he's trying to keep her safe. But there is ALWAYS a point in the books that he realizes she's far ahead of him in the investigation and all of a sudden, it's fine for her to be involved. As long as she follows his rules and does exactly what he says.
So, I read through the first 13 pretty quickly and have started 14. But I think I'm going to take a break, because the things I am annoyed with are slowly starting to outweigh the things that I like about this book series. Hopefully, when I go back and pick it up again, I'll be able to enjoy the stories once again.

Well now. This book brings about several revelations. Some of them were expected, but a couple of them weren't even on my radar. I can easily see how I'd be getting frustrated with the love triangle if I didn't know what decision was going to be made in the future. (It's one of the things that turned me off the Stephanie Plum series.) I still love the characters and the hijinks that the spectral pets get up to amuse me to no end. I'm looking forward to seeing what Lottie's going to get wrapped up in next.
Wow!! I always love going back to Honey Hollow and see all the shenanigans Lottie and her men are up to. And this one was so much fun. I can’t wait to go back after that cliffhanger. Noah has some explaining to do.
Red Velvet Vengeance is the 6th book in the Murder in the Mix series by Addison Moore and each installment is better than that last. I simply can't get enough of this series. Town baker by trade and reluctant spectral furry friend channeller by cruel fate, Lottie Lemon once again finds herself on the hunt for a killer in Honey Hollow. Armed with the knowledge that her spectral abilities are known as a supersensual gift passed down from her maternal side, Lottie discovers that there are indeed others like her even if she is cursed with being overly-supersensual. When she mistakenly follows another ghostly pet and stumbles upon another body without being able to provide a reasonable explanation as to why this keeps happening, even her boy-toy Detective Noah Fox starts to give her funny looks, but he promised not to push her to tell him her secret and he keeps his word. All of a sudden Valentine's Day turns into a Red Velvet Nightmare. What's worse is Lottie's luck begins to start going supernaturally wrong and her over-attachment to her spectral Golden Retriever, Dutch aka Tanner Redwood's previous furry pal, seems to be a sign from the universe that he does not belong to her. Can Lottie solve the latest murder before her universal bad luck succeeds in eliminating herself or anyone she cares about? Can she keep up her perfect crime-solving streak? I highly suggest you find out. RVV was masterfully written and I enjoyed the story from start to finish. I simply couldn't put it down.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Each book in this series just keeps on getting better and juicer, I seriously have no idea how Addison comes up with all of these plot lines and stories. I didn’t find anything that could fault with this book, the writing was amazing as always and I seriously can’t wait to see how the next book turns out. I love how this story keeps developing, you never know which direction that Addison is going to take you. However, I do feel for Lottie a lot in this book, she doesn’t seem to be doing well and things don’t exactly seem to be going her way. But being honest I can understand why things are tough on her after the bombshell that was dropped on her at the end of the last book. If you have loved reading all about Lottie, Noah and Everett, then you should go ahead and pick up your copy of this book as honestly it’s pretty amazing.
Lottie’s relationship with Noah has finally moved up to the next level, but other than that things don’t seem to be going well for her, there’s a new coffee shop that’s just opened up across the street and they seem to be stealing all of her customers, the last person she ever expected to see won’t seem to go away and to top everything else, she ends up being involved in another investigation. It really does seem like someone is out to set her up, considering one of her delicious Red Velvet cupcakes seems to be at the scene of the crime. With everything going on, will she finally go down even though she’s completely innocent or will things manage to turn themselves around?
Red Velvet Vengeance, Cozy Mystery (Murder in the Mix Book 6) [Kindle Unlimited] — Addison Moore(19 chapters) April 6-7, 2020
Another day, another death that Lottie stumbles across. This time is looks like someone is trying to frame her!
More shenanigans abound with Everett and Noah (I’m still pulling for the first) as Lottie uses both to push her to the finally outcome. But Noah isn’t every forthcoming even when the truth that Lottie holds close to her heart comes out. And then, in walks a surprise cliffhanger that is sure to motivate readers to pick up the next book.
This book read very fast. Even though I saw the ending (or something like it) coming at some point, I never thought it would happen as a cliffhanger. Silly me.
Addison Moore kills it again with the newest book in the Murder in the Mix series!! Lottie finds herself locked into yet another murder. When competition moves into town it doesn't look so hot for Lottie, at a ball, the competition tries to pass off her delicious treats as their own. Furious, Lottie tells them off in front of everyone! Then she finds one of the girls dead with a red velvet cupcake shoved down her throat. She finds herself being discovered hovering over yet another dead body. The drama that ensues is very real, between one hot judge, a sexy detective, and a mysterious murder, how will Lottie fix everything and solve the murder! The tears were very real at the end of this book, I could not believe how it ended and I CANNOT wait for the next book!
Addison has done it yet again. I am just loving each and every one of the books in this series. I have really been enjoying these and they seem to be getting better and better as we get further in the series.
I am always looking forward to what Lottie and the gang might be getting up to in the next book and this one was no exception. I really enjoyed this book as much as all of the last books. I was really surprised at the ending of this one and I can not wait to read the next book to see how things turn out. Addison really knows how to end a book and keep you hanging until the next one comes out so I can find out how things turn out.

Lottie has another murder to solve and she has some more surprises in store for her. She accepts Everett's help in solving the murder again. Noah and his partner, Ivy, seem to show up at the most inopportune times when she and Everett are undercover trying to determine who the murderer is. Noah and Lottie seem to be growing closer and stronger in their relationship. Lottie realizes that Dutch needs to return to the other side when things start to go wrong all over the place. She then discovers that Noah has been keeping a pretty big secret from her all along. She is able to follow the clues to find the killer. As usual, she kind of bumbles her way to the truth and more than one person is harmed in the process. The book definitely ends on a cliffy so be warned.
This was the first book in the series I was a bit disappointed in. All the others got 5 stars. It just rubbed me the wrong way that as strong and outspoken and seemingly fearless lottie is, that she'd allow these girls to walk into her bakery, use her machines and steal her recipes, then open a bakery directly across the street, without saying a word? Not putting up any kind of fight? Several times throughout this book she seemed to be letting them walk all over her. She actually apologized for speaking up at the B&B when the girls blatantly lied to the crowd passing lottie's naked goods as their own? Well hopefully the next book is back to 5 stars. But I'll tell you. My heart is still aching from her saying goodbye to Dutch.

Okay so this may be one of my favorites so far in the Murder in the Mix series. I know, I know, I have said that about the other five. Book six holds our mystery and has Lottie sleuthing for yet another murder in her small town. To bad with her keen senses she doesn’t see what is clearly happening right in front of her. Romance, murder, mystery, super natural tendencies, and ghostly furry friends this book wouldn’t let me put it down. Addison Moore proves once more she is a master of spinning a tale that leaves you asking for the next book. Thank goodness there is a book seven I don’t know if I could handle not getting more of this crazy bunch!
Another murder and wow, took awhile to figure this one out. When a new bakery opens, and Lottie learns they are using her recipes, she's annoyed. When Greer tries to blame Lottie for bad desserts, she loses her temper. When Greer is murdered, yep, you guessed it, she is a suspect. See? Pattern. Unfortunately, Lottie faces more than a murder to solve, she'll have to do it handicapped. Seems her affection for Dutch is causing her lots of grief.
In the end, things get more complicated with the men in her life but she does solve the case. Only this time, Noah and Everett almost die with her.
Another murder has happened in Honey Hollow and Lottie Lemon is seeking the truth. This time it's one of the girls that have opened a rival bakery, which doesn't look good for Lottie. With her birth mother coming back into her life and discovering Everrett has feelings for her, Lottie seems to have a lot on her plate these days. Not to mention the ghostly dog Dutch seems to be bringing bad luck to everything Lottie tries to do. A fun entertaining read with a plot twist that will leave you stunned! Can't wait for the next one in this series!
I just love this series. I originally found Addison Moore's books when I stumbled across 3:AM Kisses. I instantly fell in love with the characters in that series and felt it would be difficult to find another series of Mrs. Moore's that would make me as happy, but it happened. Honey Hollow and the characters that live there are phenomenal to read about. The ordeals they face and the ways they find out of their messes is hilarious and at times sad, but never disappointing. I can't get enough of Lottie and the gang and I truly hope the author has plans to continue with this series.
Awesome read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. Another murder has happened in Honey Hollow and Lottie Lemon is searching for the truth. One of the girls that opened a rival bakery, is found dead by Lottie. Lottie has her hands full, her birth mother back in her life and finding out Everrett has feelings for her, and Dutch the ghostly dog seeming to bring bad luck. A entertaining read with one hell of a plot twist! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Another amazing book from the talented Addison Moore! Lottie Lemon and her men are back in action solving the mysterious mysteries that just keep popping up in Honey Hollow. I don’t know too many small towns where this many murders would keep occurring, but I love the series and how Addison Moore has this great knack for looping and linking everything together. She really leaves no plot holes throughout these books! Yes she is just that good! All you Nano writers for the month of November… take note!
If you have not started this series yet, go grab your copy now!
I love this series so much! I can't wait for each book! I've been reading through each book at record pace sometimes 2 in a day! Lol Each new book just takes us deeper into the characters we are growing to love and the town but at a slow lovely pace! Each book also sets us into a new murder mystery to solve along side our favorite characters! Kuddos, so well done! Should you decide to pick up thos series I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!
Lottie, Noah, and Everett are back in the next installment of murder and ghostly pets. I am really enjoying the fact that we get to connect more with the characters in each book. Red Velvet Vengeance provided some answers that have been building regarding Lottie's 'gift' while giving us more questions about Lottie's love triangle. Can't wait to pick up the next book and see what unfolds next!

So be sure to read and enjoy Red Velvet Vengeance (Murder In The Mix Book 6) Kat
I can't stand the bad attitude Little has towards bio. As a wife of an adopted husband, and knowing the love we all share to his bio even now, understanding why ppl give their babies up, Lottie's anger to me is unfounded. It should be a time for new discovery and findings. Not hate and rudness. And come on me mom's ex now with bio YUCK. I hope things get better from here... Bye Dutch.
This murder in the mix series has quickly become one of my favorites! Lottie is at it again but this time there's more suspense, more love triangle and way more tears. I had no idea who the killer was until Lottie herself did. I am so very sucked in to the love triangle but I think I just may be team Everett. The tears were all for the love of an animal. This book is a must read!
I will say it again! I don't know how she does it but each book gets better. After the bombshell that was dropped on Lottie in the last book, the only thing that seems to be still going her way is her relationship with Noah. Everything seems against her in this book. There is another epic ending. I wont give any teasers on it. I as waiting impatiently for the next book!!!
Great story! I just love Lottie and her little spectral creatures! I can’t get enough of Lottie and Everett and Noah! This story did not disappoint. We get to see more of the complicated relationships Lottie has with both men. Oh and her birth mother!

Although this book was well written it was a little bit to 'nice' for me. It's funny and lighthearted but I had a little trouble really getting into it. A pretty young girl who runs a bakery, solves murders and has packs of ghost dogs constantly at her feet didn't really capture my attention . It would make a good holiday read though.
