Some secrets are best left buried…

I'm a Third Year now at Spellslingers Academy of Magic and my professors worry that I'm not meeting my full potential--that I'm holding back--so I know I've got to prove myself. I'll do anything to keep my place as an Enforcer of the East. It's important that I go as far away as possible, not that I can ever admit the reason why. When I stumble upon a dozen bodies during a weekend field trip, though, the world comes to a screeching halt. Thanks to bad timing, I end up stuck in the company of a frustrating yet sexy werewolf called Callan, a member of the League of Local Paranormals. Together, we need to endure each other's company and bring a murderer to justice.

Can I stop a mass murderer before he strikes again or will my past be my unraveling?

The Academy 3rd year students go on a field trip to Terrene when Cerys stumbles on 12 dead bodies while trying to complete the assignment. Just after she gets there, the League of Local Paranormals arrive. They immediately capture Cerys assuming she is the culprit. Bryn shows up and when they won't let Cerys go stating they are going to imprison her until they solve the crime, Bryn performs a bit of blood magic bonding the Werewolf to Cerys. The 2 can not be more than 40 feet apart and must adjust to the situation and solve the crime together.

This is the first book in the Enforcer of the East series. Cerys goes to see a therapist Druid. We also find out her parents are rather nasty. To make things worse for her the chancellor says that she's not working up to her potential and she could fail.

Then there's a bunch of deaths, a trip to see a Fate and a fight with the Hunter which reveals a problem that the tie between her and Callen could cause a major problem. It's basically a fight-or-die situation, period. A good first book in the series.

Enjoyable and Fast Paced

I enjoyed this book, it’s the start of a new series which always comes with higher expectations. I enjoyed the continuing themes from the other books that the author has written. The Enforcer/Warden theme is very interesting and I like the setup for the next books. Book 1 was a bit cliché in some areas and easily wrapped up but I can look past it for the character building.

Promising

This book was okay and not what I thought it was going to be. First off it has a lot of action and drama going on. The only thing that I didn't like was the length of the final battle. I was a little disappointed that it ended so quickly. But it is good enough for me to read the next book in the series.

It’s ok

The book if fun plenty of action just not from our lead as she is restricted and a bit of a sensitive young girl. She comes across as a bit annoying with her not being able to accept a nickname as well as the story finishes on a cliff hanger

Get your supernatural fix here!

I really love this series. The girls are kick ass and the supernatural murder mysteries are great. It's well written and I never want this series to end!

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

Read back to back years ago with the other books in the Spellsingers series, decided to split by lead character.

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

Cerys Davies..

Earth magic is Cerys safe place, having survived being kidnapped by Abraxas she's not performing at the level Chancellor Tilkin expected following her entry tests. But what is holding her back? The experience with Abraxas? The gentle, caring nature she's blessed with? Or is there a deeper secret she's hiding from everyone..

Another field trip, to Terrine, only this time the quad squad are hunting a mapinguari as a test and it's the first team to make a live capture.. the squad split up to encircle the rare creature only for Cerys to walk into a shocking scene.. a dozen young men lay dead in a clearing.. and when the League appear Cerys is standing over the bodies. Bryn uses her blood magic to prevent them from locking Cerys away, but now she's tied to a werewolf, Callan, and is thrust into the middle of the investigation. Can she prove not just her innocence but her ability to be the best of the best?

Spellslinger7;EOTE1

Cerys Davies has taken being the oldest in her family to a particular point - she “mothers” her roommates. Their third year at Spellslinger puts them all under more scrutiny. Each witch is called to show a breadth and depth of creative problem solving that displays their potential for field work. Cerys has been resistant to use force.

Then a camping trip exercise puts her in a clearing with twelve bodies in various stages of transformation, and suddenly Cerys is accused of murder. When Bryn enacts a bond between Cerys and a League agent, Cerys is part of the investigation, not relegated to a holding cell.

It should be good practice.

Very entertaining urban fantasy series

A fun and entertaining urban fantasy series a group of students going to spell slingers academy a magical college where they go to train up their powers and learn to be guardians of the supernatural world. There are four different characters spread between the books from the spell slingers academy series of books. All of these books are interactive in a world with a number of other Series by the same author. All of them are very entertaining and well worth the read. Check them out

Cerys get her turn qt the wheel and her story starts out, amazing in this book. This is set after her kidnapping, so you will need to read The Warden of the West series to get that story.

Cerys is sweet and strong but has been having some PTSD issues that are keeping her from being her best at the academy but all is not as you seems, there are other issues weighing or her mind, that have her off kilter and that leads her to be involved with the AMF before she should. Entertaining and unique, you will read this one quick.

Enforcer

An excellent book with skillful writing, great characters, and a storyline that draws you in and makes it hard to stop. Cerys is reluctant to use her skill with weapons because of her past but an unlikely forced partner provides her unexpected help. Thank you Annabel for a pleasurable read and a great introduction to a new series.

Love this series!

The characters and action are thrilling. Their antics are extremely entertaining. The trials faced and the emotional growth they bring are bittersweet. The plots are amazingly imaginative. This book and the series it's in are an adventure for the heart and mind. Enjoy!

This book shifts to Cerys as its main focus, and it's nice to see the less up-front roommates getting some main character time. Cerys gets a unique complication in her big case with her new "partner." It's also good to finally find out Cerys's background and to see her really come into her own throughout the book!

Cerys Gets a Boyfriend

They meet, it’s dislike at first sight, so you know they’re going to fall for each other. Cerys and her new beau have to hunt down a paranormal hunter, who had set his sights on the human population. Anytime Annabel Chase is involved, you know it’s gonna be a wild ride! And absolute must read! Hey Chase: Lee says that you suck at Pokémon. 😂😂😉

It was so nice to have a book about Cerys, I really liked her character in the other books and it was nice to see she was just more than sunshine and “Mom”. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!!

Another nice edition to the series

I am glad to see another edition added to this series. Moments of suspense and worry for the characters, but overall witty and fun. An excellent quick escape from the world most of us are stuck in all day. Recommended.

Good but

I would have rated higher but name errors were distracting. Warren/Dan; another on page 134 Mona starts explaining but text written says Martha explained. Martha wasn’t in the room.

earth witch pov

Cerys ‘s pov is fun, full of adventure, a bit predictable regarding the MMC, but still we discover a lot of who she really is and how she feels life. Great book, again no bullying, no smut.

Great read

A well written thriller, with bits of humour and the usual twists and turns. Thing I like the most was the good guys won, they fell in love and lived happily ever after.
