A great introduction for young children to learn about the mystery of the Giant Squid.
It begins with tales from sailors that have been passed down for generations of a monster from the deep that could grab onto boats and overturn them. Sailors told stories about it for generations but no one knew it was actually real until the early 1900’s.
From fiction to fact, the story goes further to support evidence that the giant squid does really exist but may not be its exaggerated form that our sailor ancestors had foretold.
Instead scientists now know real facts about the giant squid like its classification, appearance, length, size, weight, how it functions, what it eats, and even the predators that prey on it!

Giant Squids and I go way back. My mother loves to tell the story of "how frightened her daughter got when she saw on TV that a giant squid was attacking San Francisco". (To my credit, I was only in kindergarten and my Dad was in San Francisco that day representing a client in court. Plenty of reason to be upset.) So, I don't like them. The fact that their eyes can be as big as my head make me even more afraid of them. I read this book very quickly and don’t wish to ever read it again! Real pictures are spaced throughout the book to accompany the illustrations.
Rumors of squids are as numerous as....well, the arms of this magnificent creature, and this tiny book for kids covers a lot of them, though, due to its small size, doesn't quite cover all. It's an intro into the mysteries of the deep and the mystery of the existence of giant squid, which I believe are true. That Jules Verne thing where a sub is attacked by a squid? Not as true, I don't think!
My Grandsons Loved this book, even before they went to school. I purchased it when 2 of my grandsons were age 3 and 4. They wanted me to read it over and over.
