Murder in the Cayman Islands

Rate this book
Tropical Treachery

Turquoise waters, golden sands, and a touch of treachery. The Cayman Islands, a sun-kissed paradise where the ocean whispers tales of adventure, has a dark story of its own to tell.

DeeDee, Jake, Al, and Cassie wanted nothing more than to soak up the Caribbean sun and escape the chilling memories of the murders they've confronted back home. But fate has a different plan. Among the swaying palm trees and the refreshing sea breeze, a murder shatters their getaway, and this isn't just any victim. The dead man is Nicky Luchesse, a figure from Al's murky past with the Mafia.

As the tropical sun casts long shadows and secrets bubble to the surface, our quartet realizes that paradise has its own set of rules. Their vacation turns into a thrilling chase, weaving through tales of old loyalties, vendettas, and motives as murky as the deep blue waters around them.

With delicious seafood feasts, heart-stopping underwater adventures, and a splash of island rum to keep spirits high, this cozy mystery will make you feel the heat of the Caribbean sun, the thrill of the chase, and the chill of a murder unsolved.

Dive deep into this sun-soaked enigma, the ninth entrancing installment of the Northwest Cozy Mystery Series, expertly penned by a two-time USA Today Bestselling Author.

This was book #9 and I have read them all. I thoroughly enjoy the four main characters in this series: DeeDee and Jake, Al and Cassie and their dogs. In the early books DeeDee was not married and newly divorced. Then she started her catering business and got herself a dog thus meeting Jake. Next she met Al DaLucco who later married Cassie and acquired their dog Red. In this book, the 2 couples plus Red travel to Al’s vacay home in the Cayman Islands. It’s DeeDee and Jake’s first visit. Also living in the CI is Al’s long time childhood friend, Nicky. Shortly before the2 couples arrive in the CI, Nicky is shot to death and it was Al who found his body. Al feels it’s his duty to find the murderer Jake, who is a PI, says he will help Al.The rest of the story evolves in the 2 couples trying to find the murderer. The most suspenseful part was toward the end when Al and Jake figure out who the murderer is and confronts him thus putting them in harm’s way. It’s a happy ending yet the ending gives hints to book #10 which already loaded in my Kindle. The series is not only enjoyable but easy reading. I can’t wait to start on book #10!

As a first time reader of the talented Dianne Harman’s prose, I found her story Murder in the Cayman Islands extremely well written and thought out. She provided just the correct hooks via every chapter, always holding my interest and turning the pages in this fun, cozy mystery with a cast of stimulating characters.

Although this book is ninth in a series, I had no trouble figuring out which character belonged where and to whom, the folks who were friends, and those with possible enemies. Then, there are those rumors about buried treasure out on a manmade reef piquing everyone’s interest.

Here’s the skinny: There’s a long list of folks with reason to want to kill Nicky Luchesse – Chicago mobster affiliates, ex girlfriends bearing grudges, a cannabis smuggler with something to hide, and so on. One of Nicky’s many enemies apparently has had enough of whatever he’s been doling out, and completes the evil deed.

Helping the local police with their murder investigation are Nicky’s friend Al DeDuco, who finds the body, Al’s wife Cassie, along with their friends DeeDee and Jake, who’ve been invited down to the Cayman’s by the DeDuco’s for a fun vacation quickly that quickly turns into dangerous disasters and mayhem.

I never review and spoil the journey for the next reader, but Ms. Harman’s Murder in the Cayman Islands, A Northwest Cozy Mystery is well worth the five stars I’ve awarded it. What a great read!

Murder in the Cayman Islands

This is the same typical plot of the books I've read by this author. She starts with a murder, then introduces multiple suspects and lets the reader guess the motive and the person who committed the crime. The detective work is done by a former Mafia family member and former Seattle detective who even get their wives involved. This book is different with a setting in the Cayman Islands where drug and gun smuggling is rampant. It's a good quick read but I'll be looking for a different plot in future books by same author.

Murder in the Cayman Islands: A Northwest Cozy Mystery (Northwest Cozy Mystery Series Book 9), my eleventh read/listen from author Dianne Harman and my first read in her Northwest Cozy Mystery Series. Well-written and developed, a joy to read/listen to. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Tena Bunnell's pleasant narration adds to an excellent book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Book 9 in Dianne Harman's Northwest Cozy Mystery series takes Dee Dee, Jake, Cassie and Al to the Cayman Islands. With lots of ideas for enjoying some down time, they have high expectations for their vacation get together. Unfortunately, another murder case occupies most of their time. Al's shady friend, Nicky Luchesse is discovered dead. It's nice to see all four of these characters in this installment. This book flows nicely from where Murder and Food Porn left off!

DeeDee and Jake are headed for a vacation with friends Al and Cassie on the Cayman Islands. They can’t wait to relax and enjoy themselves. But a good friend of Al’s is murdered and now they are involved in the investigation. There are some tough characters in the story. There’s something shady going on. This story had great characters and a good mystery. I always enjoy the main characters DeeDee and Jake!

I know these are small and you can read them in a few hours but they still grab you throughout the story keeping you reading. This author writes several series and they are equally good. The characters are lovable, you'll root for them throughout the story and the story will keep you reading. Great Reading Everyone!

Last year had too many murder cases, and to get a vacation for two weeks sounds idle. Especially in the Cayman Island, with friends. This time it was too close, next door, and a long time friend of Al’s. What all was he mixed up in, beside having two girl friends. Enjoyable, to figure out, a brief time in the Cayman Island, with promises to come again.

This is the 9th in the series. The main characters are DeeDee and Jake and Cassie and Al. The couples head to the Caymans on vacation and DeeDee and Jake are going to meet Nicky. Only thing is Nicky is dead. They don't know who did it or why but set off to find out. Can they figure this out before it's too late.?

Coastal memory

This book brought back a memory of a cruise I took to the Grand Caymans. Makes me wanna go back once this pandemic is over!! Loved the story and the food brought back memories. The new Husky sounded interesting the way DeeDee described his teeth!

These stories are interesting and always center around a murder. The victim was not a nice guy, but a lot of his friends weren't either. Can't figure out how Cassie got together with Al as they seem so different from each other.

Interesting story line

There are many twists and turns in this murder mystery. The suspects all have reasonable cause but the ending was a complete surprise for me. Enjoy this book, I did.

Who killed Nicky, how and why? I have a real cute comment that might be construed as giving the ending away. So… I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.

Good descriptions of the Caymans

Reading #9 to fulfill a World Book Challenge.

Harman writes a simple story of a drug ruined being murdered. The protagonists - all non law enforcement are allowed to question and follow suspects as if they were actual police. Surprisingly, these suspects readily answer their questions.
One of the protagonist is a former mobster. A mobster with a heart. The others are wives and a private detective all on vacation. Weirdly, socializing with known criminals is acceptable.
There is a little information and name dropping of popular Cayman tourist spots as well as some descriptions of foods. Hence the 3 stars. There are recipes to follow. But, even in California, I could jot imagine finding fresh conch.
Unless, these people end up somewhere else, I need to read about, I doubt I will be following any sequels.

Its been a while since I visited this series and I forget why I haven't been back because it is a great series. Dee Dee, Jake, Al and Cassie are visiting the Cayman Islands where Al has friends and a home. When they find out that one of Al's friends was murdered they set out to find out who was responsible.

I love all the main characters even though Al and Jake are chauvinistic you still got to love them. I loved the story line and oh my goodness the cliff hanger. I love hearing the descriptions of the people and places and would love to go snorkeling in the reefs with Jake or go shopping with Dee Dee and Casssie.

A really fun easy, well written book in a really good series.
