DNF at 19%.
Received ARC as author freebie.

I couldn't get past the fact that the heroine was willing to jump into bed with her miserable excuse of an ex boyfriend (that she hasn't seen in 3 years since he walked out on her) just to conceive a baby (have some self respect).....Unwilling to read another page...gross....complete turn off for me!!!!!

Spotted this review on goodreads by Pelusa Rivera (see link below) and I am pretty sure this is exactly how mine would have read had I decided to finish this mess.

ARC received by author in exchange for an honest review!

That was one hot read! I really enjoyed it.
It was also gave me a bit heartpain. Because that were also so many lost years you can never get back!
Also Christian is very brave for what he did in that class! I would never be so confident, maybe if I was him I would do too.

Audrey has gone through quite the heartache and pain. She deserves all the good that Christian can offer her!

Getting Her Back was a stand-alone by Penny Wylder.

Audrey wanted a baby. Her relationships hadn’t work out and it was time to move forward on her own. She couldn’t afford a clinic, but she could afford a company that vetted and paired partners just for her purpose. Enter Christian. Except Christian wasn’t a stranger, he was her ex.

I liked the premise but I didn’t particularly care for the characters. I wanted to like Christian and at times I did, but in the end, I hated his aloofness and silence. His refusal to answer the big question, not once but twice, was just too much. I didn’t feel their connection and he didn’t deserve a second chance. It was told from a single POV, Audrey’s. It’s possible if I had Christian’s perspective as well, I might have felt the connection between the two.

Additionally, there were numerous editing errors, which started immediately and continued to the end. It was as if I had an unedited copy. I believe the story had potential, but as written, it just didn’t work for me. With that said, I’ve enjoyed other books by Wylder and I look forward to reading more.

Sometimes begin focused on one goal can make you blind to the big picture. Audrey wants a baby and will go to great lengths to have one. Christian had his chance to make Audrey’s dreams come true and through a misunderstanding, he might not get the chance again.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..I have to say that the blurb doesn't match the book. How? Well she claims she wants nothing to do with him, she just wants a baby yet when she discovers that it is him she jumps into bed with him there was no discussion about why he did what he did, none. How can that be, if he hurt you as much as you say he did, then you get to the bottom of it atleast wait awhile, but nope did not happy. Then there is Christain, in the blurb it says he will do everything to get a chance, he didn't do anything but have sex with her, that was it that literally was the whole story, sex text to have sex, meet up and have sex. I was disappointed I didn't even want to finish but I kept thinking it will get better, but sadly it didn't welll we finally found out what he was thinking and why he did what he did but even that was ridiculous, he wouldn't have taken 3 years, 3 years if he really loved her..yeah that was crap..

Great story , loved the main couple .
Even though he did Annoy me with his silence a couple of times .
The mother was a pain I would have given her a mouthful.
But these stories are there to bring out your emotions , So everything is good .

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but I adore Penny Wylder as an author and there was no way that I was missing out on reading this. And as always it’s a fab intricate read.

Audrey has been failing in the relationship department, after having her heart broken three years ago she just doesn’t have the heart for a relationship but she is now desperate for a child. So hearing of an app called Heartility where the men are only there to assist in getting a woman pregnant, no relationship and no complications. Unfortunately her match is not what she expected and is none other than the man who broke her heart three years ago. Can she really have a baby by the man she loved more than anything and not let her emotions get involved and will she get the answers she craves about why they ended?

Christian made the biggest mistake of his life three years ago when he lost Audrey, he thought that they would be together forever but he ruined it all when she told him how she felt about him and he walked out the door. Now he has the chance to make her dream come true and give her a baby that she so desperately wants. But he is still in love with her and can’t help but hope she will see the man that he has become and want to make another go of them. But once he loses her again is there any way for them to have a happy ending or should he finally give up hope of having her love.

This author always brings the characters to life in safe well written stories and I always look forward to my next steamy encounter with her next story.

Penny Wylder does smutty over the top romances extremely well and in getting her back, we get an emotional second chance romance with an interesting twist I really enjoyed.

Audrey is desperate for a child, but has no man in her life. What’s a modern woman to do in a situation like that? Download the Heartility app. Think Tinder for a perk donors. You match with a man, have a passionate encounter that leaves you pregnant and the man fades into the distance, leaving you with a baby and no complications. Audrey’s match does not exactly go to plan, though. Instead of matching with a stranger, she matches with Christian, her ex who she thought she would spend her life with, but who left her heartbroken. Christian screwed up big time, but he plans to make up for it. He is going to win Audrey back and give her the family of her dreams, whether she wants it or not. It becomes obvious pretty quickly how perfect Audrey and Christian are for each other watching him work hard at winning her back definitely had swoon worthy moments. This managed to be sexy, while having all the emotion one hopes for a second chance romance.

This story has me on a bubble. I really really wanted to love this book. I enjoy Penny as a writer and I love secret baby stories, however, I am not big on second chance stories but I knew that was what this story was going in. But I wanted to give this book a chance.

I liked the concept of the story and I liked how Penny set this story up, however, I wasn't too thrilled on how these two interacted with each other towards the end of the book. When Audrey FINALLY asks Christian why he walked away from her the first time and he walks away from her AGAIN about threw my kindle.

Yes, Christian does redeem himself to a point and does explain himself, for me it was too little too late. But hey that is just me.

I was going to give this two stars but it made me cry real legitimate tears, so I rounded up. Of course, IKEA commercials make me cry real legitimate tears, so my bar might be fairly low. In my defence, I do feel sorry for the little lamp...

This story is an interesting concept, the plot is really original. But so much of it is seriously weak. It desperately needs an editor, there are so many continuity errors. The heroine is okay but the way she rationalizes doing things that are just not frigging okay made me want to throw my kindle more than once. And the hero is supposed to be some alpha male sex god, but he just comes across as a douchecanoe.

Except for about a chapter and a half of real emotion, I wasn’t engaged in their story at all. And the jump to epilogue was waaaaaaaaaay too fast. They’re finally talking about what happened in their past then poof, we’re transported nine months into the future. That sucked. I’m rethinking the two.

A spoilery complaint:

It was okay.

Not really anything special about this book. No male POV. Which I HATE! The female lead was intelligent but needy in a weird way. She ran away at the first sign of a conflict. The drama was later explained away WAY too easily to have warranted the whole premise of the story. And the HEA was just boring and unrealistic.

The build up to the confrontation was good but again it was defeated by the over simplification of the excuse given. This whole book just fell flat at the end. Not worth remembering or worth coming back to to reread it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Minor grammatical errors that really shouldn’t be here since PW is a quality writer. Not a bad book just not as good as Penny Wylder is capable of.

On a side note, I’m finding that romances are implying that characters can become successful while single but can’t seem to do it while together. Then a completely perfect life without struggle is handed to them when they find there “One”. Yes, this is an insta-love type of book but conflict is a part of life and love. It doesn’t just go away once you get your HEA!

This was such a sweet, quick read for me. Three years earlier Audrey thought she found the love of her life in ChristIan. She gets the courage to tell him her hopes and dreams for their future when it comes crumbling down around her. I thought it was an excellent show of her independence when she decides to still try for one of her dreams a baby. Her decision to do this a little unconventionally worried me at first because she had no clue who she was meeting. A stranger decides to help her and imagine the surprise when it turns out to be Christian. She thinks she can get his help getting pregnant without feelings becoming involved. I could tell that was going to be a problem because she still had a lot of unresolved feelings and so did he although neither wanted to admit it to themselves, each other, or anyone else willingly. Things finally come to a head when she decides to question what happened three years before and what’s happening now that she realized she still in love and wants her dream. I was shocked by the secrets held by all. The final twist is awesome since it leads to their happily ever after.

So... about a quarter of the way in to Getting Her Back I had a feeling that I just was not going to vibe with it and I was not wrong. It's not that the book was bad, I generally enjoy Penny Wylder, but I think that I prefer her novellas verses her full length novels. I think the story would have progressed better and been more well rounded if it had been told in dual first person POV instead of solely from Audrey's POV. I know that that was done purposefully so that we wouldn't know how Christian really felt about Audrey and why he actually walked away from their relationship the way that he did, but it only served to frustrate me - a) because what the heck, Christian?!?! and b) why the heck would Audrey go into this situation given their past. So I found myself compelled to finish the book because I just wanted to know why he left and what excuse he was going to offer that would make it okay for her to take him back (because obviously that was end game). I hung in for all of that and when we finally get it (in the last chapter of the book) it was largely unsatisfying. So meh. 2.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

Amazing!

* I was happy to recieve an ARC of this new book, my honest and heartfelt review follows:

I keep saying after every new book I read from Penny Wylder that this is her best one yet, BUTTTT...Getting Her Back truly is, in my opinion. It's got to be one of my favorites so far. She's absolutely nailed this hot, sexy, smoldering MC, Christian. Whew, if he were only real!

This story checks off so many boxes of what you want to read in romance. Smart, realistic characters that pull at your heartstrings like a SUPER sexy, dirty taking, drool worthy guy with a few alpha tendencies! A strong, independent woman who goes for what she wants, even if it might hurt
AND..lots of baby making steaminess.

One of the things I love about Penny's writing is it's easy to read and very descriptive, so good, you feel like you are there. Always including a great, well thought out story that is usually under 20 chapters, so quickly enjoyed but never forgotten.
Did I say that I LOVED this book??? Recommend!💝

This was was my first read by Penny Wylder and what a bang to start with. Her writing and story telling is mesmerising and totally addictive. It's an absolute start to an amazing journey now that the seal is broken. I have alot to catch up on and I'm damned thrilled.

This book is so fucking good... So good that it's a damn travesty that it's not a little longer....
It's a second chance love story.
Chritian was scared and made a complete dickhead move. He then lost the love of his life Audrey.

Fast forward 3 years later and she wants a baby. I love that she wanted to do this on her own. Cos in this day and age Women have the ability to make a baby and raise them on our own. When Mr C learns this he goes about getting back what he lost. At the same time giving Audrey what she wants.

Watching these two learn to trust and fall in love again was beautiful. This book is something that definitely should not be missed.

Hope y'all love these two hot and swoony characters as much as I did...
Enjoy!!!

A romantic dinner for two, a reason behind the food, a need, a want, a hope.

One door then open, closes and plans change.

Heartility checks all the boxes, single men, baby making machines, no strings or commitments.

An intense need to be a mother, a plan, a few glasses of wine and a meeting of minds to morph into a meeting of bodies is organised.

Another endearing and uplifting quick read from Penny. She is fast becoming my one click buy for a quick mood enhancing evening.

Christian though I first disliked him, thinking he was a cowardly, soon changed my mind and I grew to be quite fond of him.

Audrey quirky and charming had me chuckling away at her antics.

Her desire to be a mommy made me realise the lengths some people will go to, to fullfill their true destiny, and that alone bonded me with her character.

I can't wait for my next Penny fix!

Audrey was left devastated after her long term relationship suddenly ended. It’s been years. She’s tired of waiting for the perfect guy, so that she can have a family. It’s time to take matters into her own hands.

She finds a website where you can match with someone who’s willing to give her what she wants most...a baby. Now all she has to do is find the right guy and sleep with him until he knocks her up. Simple, right?

When she meets her match, she’s shocked to find out that it’s the ex she left behind...

There is a whole lot of sizzle in this story. Audrey and Christian have a history together and their chemistry never dimmed. These two are like an inferno. Christian will have to make amends but what they have, is worth it.

Sometimes time and a second chance, brings you exactly what you wished for.

Sizzling hot second chance romance!!

Audrey wants to have a baby, but doesn't have a man in her life. She decides to use the app Heartility. It is similar to Tinder except it's for finding the perfect sperm donor. You get pregnant the old fashion way without all the strings attached. The sexy man with no face that she connects with turns out not to be a stranger at all.

Christian is incredibly sexy. He and Aubrey dated for 3 years then broke up when he broke her heart. Now, it's 3 years later and he wants to give her the baby she has always wanted. He also wants her back. Aubrey can't help but remember how well Christian knows her body and how to get her off.
Together, they burn up the sheets.

This was one of the sweetest and sexiest books that I've ever read by this author. I can't get over how Christian and Audrey were so damn perfect together. I love how the story progressed between these two. Audrey wants a baby, Christian wants to help give it to her. But it's not that simple, because in the mix with this is the fact that it's a second chance romance! As crazy as it is, this book just flowed so well, from start to end. The big secret of the story was unexpected but executed so well. I loved loved loved the extended epilogue, because i really wanted a look into their future. If you want an awesome, quick and sexy read, this book is for you!

Audrey and Christian have a second chance at baby romance! Audrey wants a baby and this time she won’t let a man dictate her getting one. She thought she was on the path to having a husband and a family with Christian, until he ruthlessly crushed her and her dreams in one fail swoop. Now she isn’t going to wait until Mr Right shows up to get her the future she wants right now. Little does she know, the match she finds to help on her quest is none other than the very man that lead her to this in the first place. It’s supposed to be all business, but while she’s supposed to be catching baby fever she seems to be catching feels as well.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book

When it comes to second chance stories where it is implied in the blurb that the hero messes up, I need for there to be a valid reason as to why he messed up, redemption, a heroine with a backbone who makes the hero work for it... sadly this book didn’t have any of these. The heroine made assumptions, ran away but the hero didn’t make much of an effort either. I blame both for lack of communication. She took the hero back too quickly and he didn’t have to work for it. I needed angst and for the hero to grovel, but there was very little of it. I think having his POV would have helped us understand him more or at least for me to like him more. It wasn’t a bad plot, but it fell flat for me.

I love a secret baby romance and I downright ADORE second-chance romance, however, Getting Her Back was both a hit and miss for me.

I liked the concept and I liked how it was set up but I wanted more, especially towards the end when Audrey questioned Christian about their past and he up and left. Again. And when the time came when Christian gave the reason behind his absence, it just didn't feel convincing enough but I know it has to with me and how my mind and thoughts work in situations like this.

Overall, it is an okay read but not something I would be jumping at the chance to recommend or going back for a re-read.

Let me tell you Christian is hot hot hot!! The love he has for Audrey is something of fairytales. Audrey wants a baby she uses an app kind of like tinder she finds a sexy man who is willing to knock her up. When she finally meets him she cannot believe it’s her ex who destroyed her life. Will she let him put a baby in her or will she tell him to piss off? Honestly I couldn’t put the book down between the steamy sexy seems and the story line I was hooked!
