I’ve always used video games to get me through the hard times, especially throughout my mother’s terminal illness. Tasked as not only her caretaker, but my little brother’s as well, I long to give them a better life and save my mother’s in the process. This is why, on the day of the Kingsman Online Regional Championships, my ranking in the horror shooter Dystopia is so important. But just when I think I have my ranked placement in the bag, a rolling blackout sweeps the city, leaving me not only devastated in the present, but hopeless about the future.

However—it seems things are not completely lost.

When a strange man claiming to be from Kingsman Online arrives and offers me the chance of a lifetime, I can’t refuse it.

The gaming company promises a completely immersive experience for their players in the regional championships.

Little do I know, I’m falling straight into a trap.

Kody Boye has always been drawn to escape into other worlds. Now primarily a young adult fiction author, he made his debut in the Yellow Mama webzine at the age of fourteen with the publication of "[A] Prom Queen's Revenge," and sold his debut novel, Sunrise, to Library of the Living Dead Press at eighteen.​

Since then, he has authored several young adult novels across multiple speculative fiction genres. His works include The Beautiful Ones, The Red Wolf Saga, and the When They Came trilogy.​

When not writing, Kody enjoys reading YA novels, playing video games, and relaxing with his three cats. He currently lives and writes in Southeastern Idaho.

A bit grim for my tastes

But it seemed pretty well-written. I was not really a fan of the heroine and the hero was just kind of there. Without him, the heroine would have been a flat character, but he didn’t add much on his own.

That said, despite the grimness (it is a Dystopia game, after all) and not really finding much to like about the main characters, I gave it 5 stars because in spite of all that, the plot drew me in. I want to see what happens in the second book. I want to see if Sophia will get Leon out of his predicament. I want to find out what goes on with their families and why what happened happened.

So I think it’s a win and worth checking out.

This book has a great concept. Battle Royale has definitely grown in popularity lately and this book delivers the reader into just that. A Battle Royale setting known as the online gaming world of Dystopia. I personally would have liked more interaction between the players in the game and less of NPC characters, but the book is still a fun read. I'll be checking book two out to see the fate of the two main characters.

Good survival story

This is NOT LitRPG; it is GameLit, sort of. Sort of Hunger Games meets SOA. That said, the story was good and the characters were sympathetic.

I enjoyed the survival aspect of the game and in some ways the lack of explanation of what was going on and lack of stats actually increased the tension and made it more enjoyable. I'll read the secret ND book for sure.

Absolutely exceptional

It's been a while since a novel has had me so hooked that I finish it quickly. The characters developed in this world are wholesome. You become attached to them quickly. The world feels real because chaos exists within our everyday lives. You become attached and your heart breaks during trying moments. And I can't believe some of the twists encountered by our duo. And I can't wait to see what is thrown at them next.

I received this book for free for a honest review. This storyline was well written and held together. Corrupt companies, teenagers, hope. This book has it all. The author did a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life . Reccomend

Exciting tale !

The novel has an interesting setting and intriguing storyline.
Both main characters are very likeable and I was wishing they would do well.
And the ending makes you long to continue reading, so I can’t wait to start book 2 of the Kingsman online series !

interesting sci-fi novel

This is fast paced, action packed novel. It is part hunger games and part ready player one where players compete in a game simulation and have to face unknown dangers and game mods to survive. Can’t wait to read the sequel.

Different

Not what I would inherently call litrpg, however very close. That being said I did enjoy the book. Will read the next when it becomes available.

Great story

Definitely sucks you in with great characters and a bunch of twists and suspense. Can't wait to read book 2
