it's rare for me to like a wattpad book. but even as i read this with a critical eye, i admit i enjoyed this one. it's a decent mystery novel with good character work and a tight plot. hindi annoying ang narration. masasabing sakto ang blend ng tagalog at english dito.
sa first case ni mav, kulang ng part about them being interviewed by the police. parang once na solve, cut na agad. sa second case, kulang din ng pag reflect on the gravity of the situation. if some innocent lives depend on my choices/actions in the story, i would be panicking. i would be thinking about calling real cops, or advising the customers to leave the premises asap. pero parang inaccept na lang nila agad na need nilang patulan ung challenge.
ung display ng mind reading skill is a bit annoying. a person, no matter how good they are at mind reading, would only be able to guess what's on your mind, not the exact lines you say to yourself. and even if they did know exactly the words someone has on their heads, they shouldn't just reply casually to it. they just look silly doing it. nagki cringe ako everytime sigmund does it. a better approach would be to have him say, "You're probably thinking, 'blah blah blah'." that sounded more believable to me.
but even with those issues, mas nangibabaw sa akin ung enjoyment, hence the 4 stars. it had me thinking din kung sino ang totoong salarin. tho tumama ako sa hula ko, it wasn't a letdown naman. oks ang delivery and it was a satisfying experience.
Summary: Mav is a part-timer and Sigmund's apprentice in Moriartea, a Cafe disguises as a Detective agency. She solves cases with the Moriartea boys (Sigmund, Landice, and Nikolai). She founds out she is not the first part-timer in the cafe and has known the fate of the second part-timer, Aria and the fact Vivien, the first apprentice of Sigmund is very attached to him so she brutally murdered her because she thinks Aria has made him forget about her. Twice Mav quits in the cafe but in the end, she is pulled inside as she considered the staff as her family.
Comments: I actually despise WP published books for being too cliche and too eh but I am quite surprised I loved Moriartea. Well to be honest, I got baited by the name of the book because I am a fan of James Moriarty. At first pages I had a hard time in reading "Tanglish" as I avoided reading these kind of books in the past but eventually I got used as both the English and the Filipino words used are easy and don't require dictionaries and the fact both language are balanced as not to give me headache.
STORY -Oh how I despise that trope of a female protagonist surrounded by guys which leads me to thinking that this will end up as a love triangle which I also despise but I was mistaken, it never lead to that but instead somesort of mutual understanding. Sigmund's has improve a bit and has "promised" to never lie to Mav again. The other characters cept for Mav and Sigmund? two dimensional types but I do find "the walking fridge" likeable and Mister tut-tut-tut's a lot? He's in my book. -As for the main antagonist, Vivien. I never liked her for a bit, possibly I am being bias as I do not like "Yandere" types, in the start I know that she has something to do with the cases, playing with the Moriartea staff so that she can bait Mav. I never like her as an antagonist, that's all. -As for cases, interesting but not really memorable. I find the one with Landice likeable about the Wolfbane flower incident, in that moment which the woman who ordered Earl Grey, I know she is the one behind the case.
WRITING STYLE: -One thing to say, I love the writing style more than the actual story. This is one of the books that I will soon to forget about the plot line but I would remember it more as being the first "Tanglish"book I quite enjoyed. As I said earlier, the English and Filipino words are balanced. But it seems it does not sound natural when the characters talks like that? Probably it's just me as I am not familiar on how these kinds of books are written or the fact majority of conversations I had are either in pure Filipino or English.
PRICE: (PHP 150) -Common price for a book like this
OVERALL: -Supposed quick read but I procrastinate a lot because of irl situations and probablems. Good read and did not lower my expectations and I did enjoy the writing style a lot. The walking fridge will be forever one of my fave characters.
RECOMMENDATION: (For 15+ year olds) -I recommend this book for an older audience because of the last case and the mention of body parts which would be find distrubing by younger readers. I would mostly recommend this to people who read WP books.

This was a refreshing read. I've always liked that there's little to no romance between the protagonists on this author's detective/mystery books. This one's a light read, but it still got some of the tropes I seek in a book. Fish-out-of-water/new girl, obsessive stalkers, and well, murder and mayhem. Yeah, I'm a sucker for those.
At some point, I second-guessed (that was a constant word here, no?) some parts of the story, like how in the world did the hospital just let it go when that one incident happened? A few pages later, the book cleared my confusion. Cue the applause. I've learned from the detective methods, roused my great deduction prowess if I might boldly say (Project LOKI was a whole phase of my younger self), and it was really fun whenever my theories were on point.
Writing style and worldbuilding are both decent. I guess the only hitch was that I needed more personality from Maviel. Character building. The personas of Sigmund, Nikolai, and Landice were distinct. Hell, even our little mastermind has more character. Sure, Mav became better with her detective skills, but her personality is lacking. Like, who is she? Could've worked more on who Mav is even out of the Café as that would've made her character more appealing, seeing that she's the female main protagonist. It is hard to actually connect with a protagonist when everything you read about them is their practical lives — and I think that's one of the essence of reading, to feel a connection with the characters. But I do get that it is supposed to be a light read and that the plot may not have called for it. Just maybe something to consider next time?
It's the second time I read this book. I like how the author wrote this— makes me feel like I'm the character. It's a good read for someone who's in a reading slump. You can easily finish reading it in less than a day.
The plot twist is good but there are some scenarios that I think is weird. Would recommend this to beginner detective story readers if they want a more detailed POV of a detective trainee.
The story is fast-paced and nakulangan ako sa plot. I can not appreciate the whole plot since I believe that how the writer revealed the villain was very quick and I didn’t have the time to fully comprehend and absorb what is happening to the story. Overall, it was quite a twisted story read and kung naghahanap kayo ng mystery na mabilis matapos pwede niyo siya basahin.
Moriartea is a good book by my favorite mystery writer, Kuya Rhein. This book is not a typical detective story coz the plot is unpredictable with a light feeling.
I love everything about Moriartea, especially the characters.
Enjoyed this a lot! Although the puzzles may be simple, I'm happy that akosiibarra managed to produce digestible detective novels for the Filipino audience. It's really a nice, quick read and a great introduction to sherlock-holmes-style novels!
The book is about a student detective on her training days and I love the twist of who's the killer and I hope there's more pages to this book but overall it's a good book
This has one of my 5 star read the way that this is written is beautiful and honestly when you read this story it feels like you where one the gang solving the mystery.
nanginginig ako out of frustration KAILAN MAUUPDATE YUNG SECOND BOOK NA TO IT HAS LITERALLY BEEN YEARS ISTG. PAULIT ULIT KO NALANG TONG BINABASA BECAUSE ////IT IS THAT GOOD/////
i really love kuya Cris' writings. seryoso mostly mga characters. they're so well-written (and may humor naman sila), i like how each character's personality is just *chef kiss*
A book that gets me out of a Slump, I really love this so much it's so interesting and fun to read, made me really interested in thrilling, detective and mystery genres
I'm feeling a bit left hanging with Project Loki (even though I haven't finished it yet LOL). It had a light and cozy atmosphere because of the café setting, although there were (heavy) cases that needed to be solved, of course. And the ending was also tear-jerking (╥﹏╥). I’ll definitely read if there will be a part 2 of this!
Medyo nabitin ako sa Moriartea since fast-paced masyado yung story and somehow I am used to reading Project Loki, that's why I said na medyo bitin siya for me. But I think there's a part 2? Well, let's see how the part 2 will turn out. The story was good as expected by akosiibarra, he never fails to amaze me. Every character was meticulously crafted and I love the consistency in the story. The used of codes, the techniques, and the logics were commendable. I kinda got invested in this as I was able to finished this in one sitting (and also this is my cup of tea). Akosiibarra did a great job in creating a character, which is Maviel, who does not know anything about detective stuffs and such. Above all, this book is good for those who are just starting to read a detective genre.
