I only read Steno's text, so I am not commenting on the voluminous front matter. If you're reading this it's for the historical interest in what the embryonic study of geology was like in the seventeenth century... and boy is it painful, stilted, awkward, the works: a tortured quest for general principles when there were nowhere *near* enough observations to hand for any one person to make them.
