Midnight Bite

Rate this book
A kiss on New Year's Eve is supposed to be lucky...but a vampire bite? That's not exactly something a woman dreams of getting. And when Lark Kinsley gets bit, all bets are off. She stakes her date, runs into the night, and tries to put the whole nightmare behind her.

Only she can't.

Because she immediately runs into trouble—trouble in the form of a tall, dark, and deadly sexy vampire prince named Devereaux. He claims that he's there to help her, but she's not buying his story. The guy is no Prince Charming. After all, Prince Charming isn't supposed to come with fangs and an appetite for blood. But Devereaux says that he's been waiting centuries for her. That she is meant to rule with him. Obviously, he's wrong. And possibly insane. She's not meant to be the queen of the vamps. No matter what Devereaux says.

But he's not the only one after her. Paranormal monsters are coming out of the woodwork. And the bite that she got? It's making her feel strange. Hungry. Her self-control is shredding, and Lark knows she's changing. She just doesn't know what she'll become.

The new year won't go out with a bang...it will end with a bite.

Author’s note: Hey paranormal romance fans! MIDNIGHT BITE is a sexy vamp novella—expect danger, expect hot times, and expect naughty language as you ring in the new year. Let’s celebrate with some undead style!

4 - "You were worth the flames…" Stars!

Cynthia Eden delivers up a quick and sexy story in the New Year’s novella Midnight Bite.

"Choose me…"

How do you explain an attraction to a man that you have been told your whole life is your enemy? That’s the position Lark finds herself in with Prince of the Vampires; Devereaux Mancini, the guy is consistent in his attempts to keep her safe, even if his efforts at wooing her could do with a little fine tuning.

Lovers.
Partners.
Mates.
Forever.

But being a vampire puts him in the strictly ‘no way’ category for Lark, after being told by her mother (a monster hunter) from an early age, that all paranormal beings are mad, bad and dangerous to know, and should be killed by any means necessary.

"All I wanted was to have a chance with you… All I wanted was to have you…"

As you would expect, the story is easy to get along with, the characters likeable, and as is a regular trait with a read by this author, a few secondary characters who could do with their own stories too. This is a quick read, and if you are looking for a paranormal fix well worth a couple of hours of your time over the festive period.

Fabulous short story by Cynthia Eden!!! I loved this new years Eve vamp romance so much! It had a hot sexy vampire with a British accent and a face of a fallen angel. Devereraux Mancini has loads of charm and charisma and all alpha possessive vibe just like I like in my vampire hero! And Lark was a great heroine strong, fearless and beautiful ! Lark's mother was a notorious vampire hunter who killed vampires and other paranormal creatures and when she died her mysterious father made deals to keep Lark safe until her 26th year but now all bets are off and when the clock strikes midnight all bets are off and she will become the prey. This was a steamy sexy read with a couple twists thrown in and some really great characters like our couple and also secondary ones like Salvatore his right hand man who was just so funny and sexy and demon hellhound Noren who was a slick opportunistic demon who made me laugh. I love Cynthia Eden's books. She's a great storyteller and her vamps so hot!
Until next time Luv's💞💋

Oo I do love this authors paranormal stories and this one features Vampires. Lark has been alone since her mother was killed by some of the monsters that she hunted. Now though it looks like the monsters are hunting Lark all except for Devereaux a Vampire Prince with secrets of his own !
Such a passionate couple and I so enjoyed seeing how their relationship progressed amidst so much suspense and indeed deception. The author takes time to introduce a couple of other characters who I sincerely hope she manages to reprise at some point. However this story is really about Lark learning to trust Devereaux even though she knows he hasn't exactly been honest with her. So exactly what I like to read although I did feel the big reveal seemed to be over perhaps too quickly but cannot fault that it was easy to read and very engaging.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

What a great little read! The thing I love about romances with vampires is the way the hero is totally obsessed with the heroine and that is exactly what Devereaux is. He is protective and possessive and a bit uncertain of himself where she is concerned which endeared him to me even more. I loved that he wanted to charm her and hadn’t the first inkling of how to do so. He is the least charming vampire in history. While his plan begins with a certain agenda, it takes a drastic change once he has Lark in his arms and each moment afterwards continues to change what he initially set out to do.

This is a short, fast paced read with plenty of steam. As all heroes and heroines written by this author, the characters are fierce and independent with plenty of insta-everything although not overly written to be so. I enjoyed watching Lark come into her own as well as the secondary characters that added additional humor and dimension to the story. This is a perfect read for the holidays.

A fun New Year's novella. You got a stalking vampire prince for a hero, a failed monster hunter for a heroine, and every supernatural species out to kill her for her mothers deeds.

I enjoy this authors books because she always brings the safe stories that have the jealous and possessive heroes. Even though Devereaux technically stalked Lark until she was 26, he only protected her from a distance. Once he was able to pursue her, every wish was her command. She just didn't want to be in command.

Even though Lark didn't want to be a monster hunter, her mother's words were still engrained in her. She was taught never to listen to a vampire. What she didn't know is her mother had not told her the whole truth.

You get a good chase in this book. Lark fights her attraction and Dev pursues relentlessly even though he won't push Lark to accept him. Like usual, the author had some intriguing side characters that I hope get their own story!

Midnight Bite is the latest release from Cynthia Eden and while I enjoyed the concept of the story I thought the execution was ridiculous. In my opinion it was to short to form any connections between the characters so their interactions reminded me of a B movie. If your not familiar with Ms. Eden I would recommend you don't start with this book because Midnight Bite isn't a good example of her work.

A enjoyable fast paced read, just what I would expect from Eden. I just wish there had been more, there was a fleeting moment where I felt things went too fast - the shift from Lark resisting Devereaux to giving into her desires, I felt that scene needed something more to make the transition/shift feel smoother.

Eden certainly knows how to create hot alpha males and female main charcters with spunk. Fingers crossed her next PR book will be a novel.

I really like this author but more and more of her books are becoming sex sagas rather than having a genuine story.
There was absolutely no depth to the characters and I guess its my fault to expect it since this is a novella.
Heroine was just blah.

Midnight Bite is the perfect blend in a quick story, it has lots of hot passion, sizzling romance, and edge of your seat danger. The characters are strong and convincing which really pulls readers into their story and this fast paced plot takes over from there and holds them hostage. The romance may be fast paced but it is feisty and hot as the characters struggle with secrets, plots and manipulations while their sizzling attractions and emotions keeps their interactions quite tense. With an intriguing plot, secrets being revealed and surprising twist keeping the characters in turmoil, readers find that they have to read every last page of this thrilling holiday story.

More like 3 1/2 *

Hmmm.. Not sure how I felt about this story. Overall, it was good but maybe there was too much sex for it being only 150 pages (or less).

This was a story where the adult male, a vampire, waited for a girl to grow up before he approached her, along with a numerous number of witches and shifters that were trying to kill her because Lark’s mother was a “monster hunter” and killed a whole lot of the witches and shifters before Coyote shifters killed the mother. They were thinking the daughter was going to be like her mother, so they were trying to kill Lark before that happened.

Anyway, there was a couple of exciting fights, especially with her father, who she didn’t know until the moment she met him, he had a hellhound kidnap her and bring her to him, Oris. Oris was the deadliest vampire ever and he was power-hungry ass who wanted his daughter to kill Devereaux, whom she already loved, so killing him was NOT going to happen. So, the all-powerful Oris got what he deserved.

I was glad Devereaux didn’t kill the hellhound, Noren, as he was a really likable character, as was Salvatore, Devereaux’s head guard.

Entertaining sexy vampire story from a fabulous author. I loved these characters and want more of them. It’s New Year’s Eve and Lark’s birthday and she’s on the date from hell until the sexy vampire Prince drops in to save her. Bite me, kiss me and ... That’s what Lark wants from the hunky Prince Devereaux. Whew, he’s hot and swoon worthy! Dev is ready to take his Queen but she’s not quite there yet. As she contemplates her decision Dev protects her when a slew of baddies are out to get her. Everything Lark thought about her life is wrong and she deals with the lies and deceit while coming to terms with her new existence. There’s lots of action, secrets, lies and steamy sex in this terrific paranormal story. I hope we get more stories from this world. Love Salvatore and Noren. I reviewed a NetGalley ARC.

REVIEW : MIDNIGHT BITE by Cynthia Eden is a contemporary, adult, stand alone, paranormal, romance novella focusing on advertising specialist Lark Kinsley, and vampire prince Devereaux.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lark and Devereaux) MIDNIGHT BITE follows Lark Kinsley on the eve of her twenty-sixth birthday. Lark is all too aware of the supernatural. As the daughter of a ‘monster hunter’, Lark chose not to follow in her mother’s footsteps but the repercussions of her mother’s career have followed our heroine for all of her life. Unaware of a secret deal made between the supernatural community, Lark has no idea that at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, she will become the number one target of the paranormal world. Enter Prince Devereaux, the man with whom she will fall in love, but a man who is everything she has been taught to destroy.

MIDNIGHT BITE is a fast paced story about a vampire willing to do anything to protect the woman he has waited for all of his life, a woman who is the prize is a decades old war between the supernatural and the hunter; a woman completely unaware that she is more than meets the eye. Lark Kinsley was taught to hate the paranormal beings who inhabit the world but falling in love with the prince of the vampires is completely unexpected with benefits that pull our heroine into a life she was about to embrace. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the romance is a passionate and quick to develop; the characters are sassy and colorful. MIDNIGHT BITE is a quick read: pull up a chair and embrace the dark side of happily ever after.

I just can’t pick a good one at the moment.....

Deep sigh..

Yet again,I had wanted to like this....
I’ll try to be quick I promise....
My review is just my opinion...
This was like insta love on steroids... Lark has a bad date, horribly soo..She might not have taken after her mother as a hunter but you’d think she’d know a vamp. when she’s on a bad blind date with one....
Anyway her horrible mother died ten years prior to her 26th birthday and took way too many secrets with her...ones Lark badly needed to know....
Devereux seemed decent enough for an obsessed stalker ,who is supposed betrothed to you at birth.... yours not his..
Dev is ok'ish... but this is too rushed and too forced... his plans are to find her on her 26th bday, bite her,bed her, turn her and bond her and get her bound to him in basically 24 hours.....
Getting drunk in Vegas and doing just half of this three sheets to the wind makes more sense, than Dev’s to do list with a clueless young woman like Lark....

Lark is “supposedly” 26 but she barely feels 21, while on one hand resisting Dev and all the other paranormals pushing her way only makes sense on the other hand constantly running away when you know basically the whole paranormal world 🌍 is out to get you and you don’t even begin to have a way to protect yourself running off alone is just foolish and silly....
But you know what felt worse ?
Going from running from him to wanting to constantly to jump his bones made even less sense....
Geez, grab some middle ground girlie.... surely there’s a place between either F’ing his brains 🧠 out or running away into danger ?
Especially since you’ve only know him barely 24 hours....
I LOVE “fated mates” and if done right I can even get behind some insta love 💕, regular human or PNR but only if some right...
But some 26 yr. old girl, who’s more clueless than that old board game w/all the clues missing ,or Cher in the beginning of that movie “Clueless” ,who knows nothing of her past or her heritage, or promises made or broken... a young woman made to hate both herself and vamps. ,who is being currently hunted ,to kill and or torture because of her mother’s mistakes is suddenly going to want to constantly jump a vampires bones barely 24 hours after meeting him ? Knowing all this plus how he’s been stalking her for years and manipulating events in her life and is still keeping secrets from her ? All that .... all that and instead of rocking back and forth in a corner she’s irresistibly drawn to him and giving into her feelings and F’ing him repeatedly ?
Seriously??
No...
Just no...
Rushed and forced are the two words I’d use to describe this....
No, no I didn’t finish this .... I couldn’t ...
It just felt too fake....
if none of that mattered to you,I’d say go for it. if this were free or KU, same.. but since it’s not ,I can’t... I’ve enjoyed some of Ms.Edens work but what and where and why I haven’t a clue ( much like the heroine at the moment ) ...

ps. I;m sorry or any misspelled or missing words but right or wrong I usually do my reviews at the end of the book in that space at the end.... I promise I'm literate but between vision problems and fighting w.that bitch spellcheck I know I don't always look it and for that I apologize.... Thank you..

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I will be collecting this one, but Christmas has left me with no extra spending money.

This was a great read! I stayed up way too late finishing it. This is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. I really love all of Cynthia Eden’s paranormal books. She has an awesome mix of action, drama, and you never know what will happen. This is a mixed paranormal world with Vampires, Hunters, Weres, Demons, Witches, and more! I always know I'm in for a great read when it has Cynthia’s name on it.

This is about Lark. There are things about herself and her family that she wasn’t told about. Everyone is out to get her, and she has no idea why. She was told never to trust a vampire, but she wants to. Dev loves Lark, but she doesn’t know it yet. He keeps trying to protect her from everything, but it keeps causing trouble. This was a fantastic story full of action and trouble.

I highly recommend to any paranormal fans especially if you love Cynthia’s style and action!!

Midnight Bite is a fun novella by Cynthia Eden just in time for the new year. It is a traditional vampire tale in many respects but has a few twists as the story goes along too. Being a novella there is not the time to develop the characters in the same depth as Cynthia Eden’s full length novels. Still I found it to be an enjoyable read. Being a little over a hundred pages on my reader, it is easily read in one evening.

Lark Kinsley and Prince Devereaux were the main characters with the main love story but several other character such as Prince Devereaux’s head security vamp, Salvatore were interesting too. If this is an introduction to a new series, I know exactly whose story I want to read next.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

OK, a few of things about this book:

- I did not realize it was not really a full novel at 150ish pages, but great for a 1 day read.

- Almost oversexed but not too much especially for Cynthia Eden

- Liked the story and the couple but it was a bit frustrating for about half the book.

- It read more like a short story meaning that things moved much faster than in normal novels which is good and bad since a lot of things did not get explained.

- Everything considered it DID keep my attention and no scanning was done, took awhile before the real plots behind the ones you could see so 4 Stars for a good quick story and a decent plot.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Lark is freaking hilarious and that oh so sexy Devereaux, the vampire prince, cue the drool. So Lark doesn't know some things about herself, that dear old evil and mean mommy dearest neglected to tell her. So on her Birthday she is in for some surprise. Devereaux her fated mate, is also keeping secrets. Lol. I enjoyed this story, just like I have enjoyed any and all stories written by the awesome Ms. Eden. 4.5 Fabulous stars*****
P. S. I really, really, really want a story about Salvatore. Pretty please? Lol.

If you want a story pulsating with mystery and fire and of course bad guys then this book ticks all those boxes. Best of all though is the fact that not everything is black or white and just who is good and who is bad gets put to the test. I think you can tell I loved it and I can't wait to read the next book.

A solid, stand alone paranormal romance for New Year's Eve.

Dev, a vampire prince, has been hiding in the shadows, watching Lark from a far. However, he's not the only one trying to get to her. Lark's mother was a fierce monster hunter who made a lot of enemies.

Will Dev save Lark, or will Lark end up saving him?

If you are looking for a sexy paranormal romance novel that features vampires as the central characters, "Midnight Bite" is the book for you. Image it is New Year's Eve and you are standing out on the balcony trying to get away from your blind date when he comes over to you and bites you on the neck. Oh yeah, he did it and what's worse is he is a vampire, the very creature your mother attempted to teach you how to fight against. Ready as a girl scout, you pull out your trusty stake and shove it into him. He falls from the balcony as you try to get away. Unfortunately, as you it seems other creatures are out to get you as well; but, then you meet Devereau, the Vamp Prince and he tells you he wants you for his queen. What the heck!

What starts as a complicated New Year's Eve turns into an interesting little tale steeped in lies and deceptions turns into a fast pace read about a failed monster hunter, Lark Kinsley, who just wants to lead a normal life outside of the paranormal community. Who can she believe and what can she do to survive what is coming? Those are the question she must ask if she is going to make it to her twenty seventh birthday.

Ii enjoyed this little novella (151 pages). The world building was great, characterizations sound and the sex was over the top. However, like most romantic reads the dialogue gets sappy at times and too many sexual scenes can overwhelm the plot. Was this a masterpiece of epic proportions? No, but it was sure a lot of fun. If you are looking for a quick, lighthearted read, with a paranormal twist, this could very well be the book for you. Definitely worth placing on your "to read" list.

On New Year’s Eve, her 26th birthday, Lark Kinsley learns that she’s involved in some vampire business and had no idea. Thinking she’d finally become normal after growing up with a “monster hunter” mom, Lark discovers that she’d been protected from other parnormals all her life, but now that protection was over. This is how she finds herself running from multiple paranormals, including sexy and charming Prince Devereaux, who claims that she belongs to him and that he must claim her in order to protect her. Lark has no idea if she can trust him or not, but with little choice left, she entrusts herself to him. She soon discovers he’s lied to her about a few things, but Dev is completely and totally devoted to Lark and Lark thinks she could become devoted to him too. But first, they’ll have to find a way to stop those who are coming after her.

Meh. Gotta say, I did not like Dev and his forceful “You need to choose me or you’ll die.” Well, that’s really not that much of a choice is it? Dev has been all creepy stalker on Lark, following her around and intervening in her life behind the scenes while she has had no idea that he existed. So he’s in love with her and desperate to make her want him and love him (and the ends justifies the means for him). I wasn’t comfortable with his constantly lying to her and manipulating her. Then, when she finally confronts his multiple lies, she makes him promise not to lie again...and he does. Then he lies to her about her father. I also wasn’t such a fan of the fact that Lark, who had gone from nice, sweet and not wanting to hurt others, becomes pretty damn bloodthirsty there at the end (no pun intended). She seems totally fine with threatening to torture and kill someone who appeared to have betrayed them. Seems this being turned business has more consequences than Dev had said. And that’s my biggest issue with Dev (and Lark forgiving him so fast). Turning someone into a vampire without telling them that’s what’s going to happen is kind of a huge betrayal...granted, Lark already kinda thought she was a vampire which is why she was cool with the biting, but it’s the principle of the thing. Like with sex, you get consent before you do this or face some serious consequences for your betrayal - Dev faced no such consequences and despite his lying and creepy behavior, Lark was totally fine with him and was falling in love with him. So this was kind of an okay read, but had lots of stuff in it that irked me. Thankfully it was short so I didn’t spend a lot of time irritated.

A vampire romance that I read with great pleasure

Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors, usually for her suspense novels, but this paranormal novella delighted me ! I loved the wonderfully twisted plot, the endearingly awkward characters, and the world-building that made me wish there was a whole book and even a series about these characters !

In short, a paranormal vampire romance that I devoured !

Lark was raised as a hunter and to hate all paranormals but she never had the killing instinct. So she decided to start over. But what she doesn’t realize is that she was protected until her birthday and then all bets are off. Lark goes out on a blind date on New Years Eve. What she didn’t expect was to be bitten by her date. She runs away it runs smack dab into another vampire, Devereaux, a vampire prince. Devereaux has be watching her for years and wants her for his Queen. First he’ll have to keep the other paranormals from killing her. He must bond with her on her twenty sixth birthday or the others can get her. Convincing her will be a whole other problem, Lark doesn’t trust him after he bit her and she turned into a full vampire. Devereaux will do anything for her and sets about charming her until she is taken. He’ll make a deal with anyone to get her back.

Great story with sex and vampires, wolves, and witches. Action and bloody. Great characters and storyline. Hoping for a book with Noren, the hellhound.
