Imagine a world where every book is magical and every word holds power. Stories create their own Realms, places in which the characters live out their roles.
Avi is a Keeper, a designated enforcer, assigned by the Literary Guild to protect the Real world from the characters who might escape. When a talking housecat shows up in her shop one night, everything changes. Not only does he escape, but he takes his book with him! The changing rules will affect everything, including Avi's life.
To make matters worse, the Guild sends its most exasperating and handsome Bard to investigate on the same day Avi’s favorite book boyfriends, a Shifter and a half-Demon Pirate appear in the Real. Can Avi prevent the Bard from exiling the men she’s waited so long to meet? Can she trust them all with secrets and truths she was warned to never reveal? Can they defeat the Demon Lord she unknowingly released before it causes more havoc and destruction?
**This is a slow-medium burn, paranormal romance that doesn't take itself too seriously. There's attempts at humor, a reluctant heroine who swears a lot, and talking housecats. The leading lady has three love interests and doesn't choose between them. #polyam #whychoose**
An imaginative piece of writing managing to leave this vesion of book boyfriens to stand apart. A food story to leave you a little hanging and to look forward to book two.
This is literary magic, quite literally - the paranormal world is run by those that wield the pens, and it’s glorious. As an avid reader and self conscious author, the notion that realms rise and fall by the purview of the creative is enticing, and giggle inducing. This is a fun ride, albeit a little bit silly.
First person, single POV, Cliffhanger, Slow burn RH, PNR. MMMF Rating = upper YA Character age range = 30+
Pros: - Inventive! - Love The characters - Book boyfriend.... who hasn’t done this??
At first, reverse harem sounded so good to me because it means multiple love interests. But due to the ever-growing amount of rh releases from the past couple of years till now, it also meant that the variety of subgenres under it would also grow. Basically every other sub genre I could think of, reverse harem can provide.
Yet, the originality and creativity of this particular read flooded me. I was just swept off my feet and I don't even know how to contain my excitement for this amazing concept. Ugh! Fantasy really is too good for my soul...
Avi is actually such a relatable character. She's just someone whose pair of shoes we all can put ourselves to. I kid you not. I think it's because she's a passionate reader herself. Like, she's a 'real' person who also has book boyfriends/crushes and has appreciation for amazing world-building and well-developed characters. And at the same time, be an actual character in a book. (You'll get me once you read this book and get to that plot twist but about her.)
This is basically the stuff of dreams and fantasies and make-believes. Like, the book hangover is even worse than usual because the possibility that these things could happen makes reality even more cruel and more...boring. Ughhh
Sidenote: I would really sacrifice my soul if that's what it would take for me to experience being with my fav characters. I don't know about book boyfriends because all of them have their equally amazing heroines as romantic interests - tbh I usually stan heroines more than I stan heroes so - but maybe just an in with them and their inner circle?
Again, so much possibilities, my little brain can barely handle it
This is such an interesting concept for a series that I think we can all relate to. How many of us have book boyfriends? How many of us wish we could spend time with them in real life? I mean, not necessarily forever but if you could meet them for even five minutes, would you pass that up?
The first book in the series was previously called Between the Pages and is now Keeper of the Pages. In it we are introduced to Avi. She's a Keeper. Basically she lives in a bookstore and keeps the characters from crossing from the Realms into the Real. Seems simple enough since she's been doing it her whole life right? Well, one little mishap and now the Literary Guild has sent someone to check on her and he is all business. Not good timing when her two book boyfriends show up in the Real. She's spent so much time reading about them she feels a connection that won't let her send them back. Good thing she temporarily needs their help. Unfortunately, the all business Bard is all up in HER business and she's got secrets to hide. Can they solve the mysteries unfolding in the Real while she keeps her secrets to herself?
You know how you see a book, you know you want to read it, but life is happening and you've had all these other books on this list and so you just keep passing that one book by? Well that is what happened to me with the first book in this series. It was on my TBR, it just kept getting pushed back. Once I started reading it though, I couldn't stop. I was so glad that I could continue right on into book two because I was that invested in the story.
Not only do we have an interesting concept, we also have characters that we can't help but to be drawn to. Avi has her secrets and yet so much she doesn't know about herself yet. It keeps her distant but yet, she's still so loveable. Ward comes across as such a stick in the mud but he has his reasons for being that way as well. Once you peel back the layers, he's a genuine sweetheart. Devlin and Ramsay are your romance book leading men come to life so of course you are going to love them. With so many twists and secrets you can't help but be intrigued. I also love the small details you get in how the Realms are born and their world works.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and I definitely recommend you read them. I could have read even more about Avi and the guys but it was a nice, happy ending. Another different and refreshing RH to stand out amount the rest.
This was a very fun, entertaining, fast paced story, and I loved it. I loved how the author brought imaginary characters to the real world and made them real as well. I love the whole concept of the keepers, bards, druids, realms and book stores. And I love this author. Savitri, or Avi, the Keeper, is the main character. She is strong, determined, intelligent, and compassionate. And she has super powers. There are some interesting male characters in the story as well, namely Ramsay, Devlin and Ward, and their interactions are quite funny. In fact the whole group dynamic is quite entertaining. It was also beautiful to observe the evolution of Avi's character, as well as the other three, but Avi in particular. Then there is a question of what happens when the character is separated from it's story, does he develop on his own or does he stay the same? There are also some serious issues here, for example a dilemma whether one should follow orders or do the right thing, and how to treat a person who might not belong to this world, but fits in and became a part of it anyway. The author beautifully solves those and makes me want to read more of her books. The author's writing is excellent, characters are well developed and the world is just amazing. The romance is slow burning, but sizzling hot. There are no explicit scenes yet, but I hope there will be some in future books. The concept is every reader's dream, when one's favourite book characters become real. And the best part is that the book ends on a cliffhanger, so the author simply has to write another one!
I really wanted to like this one more than I did. The concept was so cool! Books and the characters within them all have their own realms, and then the characters start coming into our real world due to mysterious plot, 2 characters of which are super hot book boyfriends! I was excited at the concept, and while I know the author gave a disclaimer that the book didn't take itself too seriously, I just couldn't get really into it. It was a good cotton candy read--very quick--but the characters weren't fleshed out enough for me to really connect with anyone, the slow burn was slow enough that I didn't really feel the tension, and the plot wasn't compelling enough for me to read the next few, but I enjoyed my time with it for what it was.
Tropes/red flags: urban fantasy reverse harem; more than what she seems female meets 3 males (1 magical Bard, 1 pirate half-demon, 1 tiger shifter); slow burn--1 spontaneous female orgasm does not a fulfilling heat level 2 make; main character has issues with parents, both of which are out of the picture; mysterious plot and character backgrounds, none of which are revealed here; characters in peril and continued threats; discussions of what makes one "real"--2 of the mens are book boyfriends.
Heat rating: MEDIUM—no explicit descriptions and a lot of vague scenes; fades to black or quick paragraphs; more of a focus on feelings/emotions rather than body parts.
World building wasn’t awful, but wasn’t great, and there were a lot of jumping to conclusions in this book that were taken as fact.
Love interests were v 1 dimensional, author kept trying to convince us that they weren’t, but telling me isn’t the same as showing me. Characters in general weren’t fleshed out enough.
OMG PET PEEVE: SLUT SHAMING AND “I’m not like other girls”- this was RAMPANT in this book...the main character was guilty of this a TON and it was really annoying. Author has some internalized misogyny she needs to work out. Had her mc apologizing for stuff she did not need to apologize for, including being a “bitch” when she stood up for herself and her needs. Something about the way women were talked about in this book rubbed me the wrong way...
Was almost interesting, but just missed the mark, which made me sad. Giving two stars bc of the potential the ideas carried in this book.
Good fast paced read. Savitri (Avi) is a Keeper of books with a secret. One night a character escapes their book but it’s not the only one. There’s characters escaping this book all over. Ward, a Bard, is sent to investigate. And when two, hot as hell, characters Devlin & Ramsey escape their books along with a villain they form an unlikely partnership and discover secrets about Avi she didn’t even know. Good characters. Not much development yet. But the book takes place over maybe most three days. Looking forward to the next.
What happens when the book boyfriends you have been pining after all these years suddenly pop into your real life? Would you be able to send them back where they belong?
Serena weaves a wonderful world where librarians are heroes designated to keep book characters where they belong, in their own realms. This book stirred the dreams of my bookworm soul, and made me pine for my own book boyfriends to pop out of their book. Unfortunately for me I don’t live in this book!
This was a feel good almost fluffy type book. Can you imagine if your book boyfriends came to life? So books are written by bards and each book makes up a realm, now imagine the magic going wonky and your book boyfriends appearing before you. Throw in the villains in their books, plus the big bad, hidden identities, and a corrupt organization and you have this enjoyable fun feel good read
The premise for this story interested me right away and I'm glad it has such a great description it gives away just enough to be interesting. I haven't read anything else by this author but I definitely plan to now. I don't want to spoiler the book for anyone so I will just say the description explains the book well enough. The characters are great, and I enjoyed how it was written enough to want more.
This rotary runs along the lines of Inkheart, meeting with Grimm tales. Its interesting perspective, and an enjoyable one. You are totally left off at an odd place. Not a cliffhanger persay, because the immediate danger is handled. It just ends. Kinda odd. Doesnt distract from the story though. Also, the sexual tension is so thick, I'm ready for some steam already, it's taking too long. Lol
This is great new to me series and author. I loved every minute reading the story, learning about a world where bards wrote their stories and keepers kept the REAL safe if the characters tried to escape from their books.
Ends in a cliffhanger, but we have learned so much that I can’t wait to see how it ends. Avi is more than she seems, her three men are yummy too.
I absolutely loved this book! I've had a similar idea with fictional characters becoming real over the years so the concept of this story intrigued me and it did not disappoint! I love the World, the characters, even the plot! This book kept me sucked in during the whole read! I am very excited to read more of this series!
Between the Pages is a great story that quickly snagged my attention. It kept me engaged and entertained. The world and characters are unique and well-written, making the story hard to put down. I very much enjoyed this series starter and am anxiously awaiting the next book. I highly recommend Between the Pages!
I really enjoyed the originality and fun of this first book of the series! The magic is so interesting, while embedded in the real world, and the characters strongly hold their own. Lots of intrigue, humour, heat, and action to keep you glued to the story! Fabulous start to the series - looking forward to the next one!
Great characters and interesting world-building, but a slow pace with little plot progression. Ended somewhat abruptly…more like unfinished than an actual cliffhanger (a lack of suspense or tension). My 4.5 is rounded up due to potential. I'd probably read on, but after the whole series is out so I can avoid those choppy endings.
This is one fantastic book!! Who doesn't want their book Boyfriends to come to life, or have magic, or both?! Seriously freaking fantastic book, the world building was amazingly done, the characters are absolutely awesome and the story arc is full of action, adventure, magic, humor, sexy men and sexual tension in abundance! I highly recommend
I really enjoyed the story of a simple ‘keeper’ and her hidden magical talents. Who can say they can actually meet their favorite book boyfriends in the flesh and keep them? The storyline was such an interesting idea; I can’t wait to see who the evil queen is, what the birthright is and when she finally can’t keep her hands off her tiger, Pirate and nerdy Bard.
I am going to read the book 2 just saying it now. Avi is not a women who is going to let others handle her problems. She's strong and has power. Ward is not what she expected. Devlin and Ramsay have more to them then what she has read from their story's. All around this was a great book. I am excited to see what happens next.
I've been in a book funk lately but this book was a nice and lighthearted read. The concept is original and interesting, something different than what I usually read so it was a nice change! The only thing that bothered me was the abrupt end, it didn't end in a cliffhanger but it just abruptly stopped and continued onto the second book. Other than that, I enjoyed it and will continue the series.
Nice. Short but packs a punch. Two book boyfriends out of their books and one with secrets of his own. I liked the plot and the execution. I think the MC was a little too insecure about her body. Cuts off quite abruptly at the end. Don’t have a favourite yet but I liked the realism of the story and the genuine exploration of reverse harem. Looking forward to reading the next one.
Anyone who has ever had a crush on a book boyfriend needs to read this. It is so so good. A fantasy come true. A fantastic storyline woven with great characters and an original and new idea. Can't wait for book 2 and highly recommended.
This book was so much fun. I loved the idea of books having their own dimension were the story plays out every time they are read. This ended on a cliffhanger wasn't too bad but I Can't wait to see how the rest of the series plays out.
Imagine a world where every story existed on repeat each time it was read. Imagine then that those character could come alive in real life. This storyline is super interesting and keeps you reading. Can’t wait for book 2.
I have to quick go download some more books by this author because she has some serious talent! A bit like Illona Andrews, one of my all time faves, but with 3 guys instead of 1. The world building is so unique. I simply cannot wait for the next installment.
Very well written. Setting up the steam and letting the characters develop a working relationship. I didn't feel this was a building book as the characters got to know one another as they were solving the objective problem.
A lot of time and attention spent on the plot. The romance was weaves into but wasn’t the sole focus. I loved the theme. It’s so true to book lovers how a good book comes to life. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one.
